Industrial Chic Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Kate Harrison

Around our neck of the woods, it sometimes feels like we’ve seen it all — which makes it that much more exciting when something falls into our inbox that we haven’t seen before. That’s exactly what we found in this wedding from Kate Harrison, where newlyweds Melissa and Stephen married in an antique store, Big Daddy’s Antiques. With its phenomenal built-in decor and unique nature, we hope to see this trend sweeping the nation soon!

From the bride, Melissa: Stephen and I wanted our wedding to feel like an intimate gathering, reflecting our culture and traditions, as well as our personalities and the city we call home. While we planned a traditional wedding ceremony, we wanted our reception to be playful and quirky. We wanted to mimic the feel of Big Sur, where we got engaged. We used natural wood tones, moss greens and ocean blues.

Stephen’s mom went to the San Francisco Flower Mart to to pick out all the flowers. My mom and my two aunts helped her put simple, elegant bouquets together. My bouquet was tied with my grandmother’s rosary, so I had it with me during the whole ceremony, and my sister’s bouquet was made of tulips, her favorite flower. My aunt used the same types of flowers as the bouquets to make simple arrangements in mason jars for the reception. For the reception, Stephen spent the morning of the wedding hand-picking the rosemary for the tables from our yard. To tie in the feel of Big Sur, we also knew we wanted to have succulents. Over the course of months, my aunt collected teacups from around the city and planted cuttings from her own succulent garden in the cups. Those succulents served as place cards as well as favors for our guests.

It was really important to us that we incorporate my culture into the wedding, as it was now part of Stephen’s culture, too. He and the groomsmen wore the Filipino barong Tagalog, which is a traditional white wedding shirt. It was really special for me to have Stephen honor that side of my heritage – not to mention I thought he looked so handsome in his barong!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Delegate to people you trust, be it family and friends or a wedding planner. We enlisted family to help with the details that interested them, and trusted a day-of wedding coordinator to help us tie together all of the details seamlessly. In fact, we enjoyed working with our day-of coordinator so much that I’d recommend carving that cost out of your budget when you start planning, and DIY what you can to cut costs elsewhere. Also, always make sure one of you has the keys to your apartment! We got home with our last piece of cake and a bottle of champagne only to realize that neither of us had our keys. We weren’t going to bother our landlord, so we had to call my sister who had been out with the other bridesmaids. While in retrospect, waiting for my sister while wrapped in Stephen’s arms and looking out at the stars was a beautiful and memorable end to the evening, having our keys with us might have been smart!

From the photographer, Kate Harrison: Melissa & Stephen were married in San Francisco with their reception at Big Daddy’s Antiques. Big Daddy’s is heavenly and full of well-edited pieces big & small. The reception took place among their found items– they even incorporated their amazing tables & chairs. I love this place. Melissa & Stephen each walked to the church for their ceremony & used Uber to get to their reception. Very SF. :)

Nostalgic Woodsy Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

This California wedding from Kate Harrison is like stepping into a woodland dream — moss and birch details, frilly flora, and of course, a knockout couple of newlyweds! Bride Whitney shines in a stunning Jenny Packham frock, which inspired much of the feel of her wedding. The couple’s inspiration also came from their incredible venue, Nestldown, and it’s easy to see why!

From the bride, Whitney: Our style was very much inspired by Nestldown, our venue, and for me, by the vintage-inspired dress that I had chosen. I was looking for elements that were rustic, vintage, and timeless. As we were planning, my biggest worry was that all our disparate elements wouldn’t come together as a whole, but it really did turn out wonderfully well. Everything was very fun and very personal. Both Ted and I felt that the entire day was a reflection of our personalities.

We wanted everything to be classic, vintage, and rustic. We went with white and black for our main colors, with green as well to reflect the outdoor setting. Our florist did a great job making our centerpieces natural and non-traditional. A friend of ours had cut a tree down in his yard and we incorporated slices of that tree into our centerpieces.

For our guestbook, we had an old-timey photo booth from Photo-matica, whom I can’t recommend enough — they are awesome. They printed out two photo strips, one for our guest book and the other for wedding favors for the guests. We had some wooden photo strip frames made through a vendor on Etsy.com and we painted them ourselves.

We also had three bars during cocktail hour — one for wine, one for beer, and one for mixed drinks. We made our own signage for the bars using large picture frames that Ted and I got from a flea market / antiques fair and used chalkboard paint to make huge framed chalkboards. I did the writing on the signs myself.

Los Gatos Ranch Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

There’s nothing like a gorgeous ranch wedding to get you through the week. As soon as photographer Kate Harrison told me about the couple I immediately jumped on it. The groom, John, is a restauranteur and the bride, Julie is a clothing designer who specializes in repurposed and organic fabrics. So not only did they have amazing food, but it was an eco-friendly fete. Several vintage items that were scoured in thrift shops were brought in by the groom’s mother. Many more images to gush over in the gallery, and be sure to check out John and Julie’s flash mob first dance in the video below!
