Love Grows Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

The second we laid eyes on this styled shoot from Amber Lynn Photography, we noticed two familiar smiling faces — Katie and Reilly from our recent Cambria Pines Lodge wedding feature! These beautiful newlyweds joined a couple of friends to show some serious garden wedding style, complete with endless flower gorgeousness from Candice Mineau of Petals Floral Design.

From the photographer, Amber Lynn: Knowing that our venue was going to be held at the Heritage Museums and Gardens in Arroyo Grande, California, the inspiration for this style shoot was easy. The venue speaks for itself, with their amazing gardens and surroundings of the historical town of the village. The theme was “Love Grows”, fitting for a lovely garden wedding. I wanted the shoot to have a garden feel with lovely flowers that were whimsical, romantic and vibrant. The feel that they were just picked from the pretties of gardens that Petals Floral Designs executed effortlessly.

What I love the most about style shoots is that I get to collaborate with so many talented people. So when planning our workshop I knew I couldn’t make it happen without so many incredible vendors. From the colorful floral arrangements, classy table setting, stationery, elegant headpieces, and so much more to make this shoot come to life, perfect for any backyard wedding – so romantic, so classy. “One does not fall into love; one grows into love, and love grows in him.”

Opulent Florida Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Jordan Weiland

Sometimes a bit of elegant sophistication is just what we need, and it’s just what we’ve gotten from this talented team of Florida vendors. Jordan Weiland, Ashton Events, and Taylormade Events & Flowers put together this stylish wedding inspiration shoot – one that blends deep navy with copper and gold tones in the dreamiest of ways. How fantastic is that unique seating chart display?

opulent Florida wedding inspiration - photo by Jordan Weiland http://ruffledblog.com/opulent-florida-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Ashton Events: Our Easy Opulence shoot was inspired by two flea market vintage finds: the mother of pearl scalloped place mats and the hand carved copper goblets. We loved how the stems of the goblets were made to look like trunks, and how their masculinity played off of the femininity of the pearl.

The word “opulence” came to mind immediately due to the elegance of the items, but we also wanted to convey a simplicity, an easiness to the design as well. We wanted to bring a modern edge to the outdoor space. By using a majority of white flowers, complemented by birch wood accents, the look remained contemporary. The intricate detailing of the model’s dress & accessories was suited perfectly for the design, and the bride’s copper-colored hair a great final touch!

Bowties and Bourbon Southern Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Almost nothing pleases us as much as a dream team of vendors coming together to create something truly magical. Lora Grady Photography, Darien Leigh Events & Design, and Botanique collaborated to bring us this Southern-inspired wedding shoot all the way from Snohomish, Washington. How precious is the George peach theme with all the pops of navy?

Bowties and Bourbon Southern Wedding Inspiration - photo by Lora Grady Photography http://ruffledblog.com/bowties-and-bourbon-southern-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Lora Grady: Bow ties and bourbon for the gentlemen, baubles and bubbly for the ladies — a little Southern summer charm is coming your way! The welcoming double-bar set up is a stylish, charming way to invite your guests to mingle, chat and enjoy the wedding day. As guests laugh and “get fancy” with bourbon or bubbly in hand, the evening is sure to go off without a hitch. Gentlemen swap their neckties for a bow tie while ladies adorn themselves with vintage costume jewelry — creating a look and feel that is vibrant, festive and charming.

The feminine color palette of coral, blush and peach is anchored by masculine tones of rich navy blue. The guys’ bar is full of all things sportsman and gentleman, complete with antique whiskey bottles and crates, vintage trophies for the flower vases, and a wide array of bow ties to choose from. The ladies’ bar is light and airy with glasses of bubbly, colorful vintage jewelry, and sparkly cut crystal vases. The cake, with layers of peach and coral, looks just as delicious as it tastes. This interactive bow tie and bauble bar breathes a little life into traditional wedding favors while creating a unique guest experience that is sure to get them talking!

Modern Marie Antoinette Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

One sight of the floral arrangements from Anthomanic and we couldn’t help but fall in love with this styled shoot. Rachel May Photography and Amore Events by Cody wanted to imbue a wedding inspiration session with the classic elegance associated with Marie Antoinette and modern styling and bridal beauty. Really, it was impossible to resist the color palette of pinks and greens – don’t you agree?

From the event designer, Cody of Amore Events by Cody: With a hint of spring in the air, we said goodbye to the unkind winter and eagerly welcomed the coming of warmer weather with a stunning shoot. This styled shoot drew its inspiration from the glamour, whimsy, and femininity usually associated with Marie Antoinette.

Amore Events by Cody embraced the challenge of bringing the “Modern Marie” to life. Cody navigated away from a more classical look by balancing antique gold elements with pops of bold pinks to pull together this extravagant affair. The vision for this shoot really came alive with Anthomanic’s lavish and overflowing florals and greenery that adorned the bride and table spread. Rachel May Photography captured every detail with elegant but whimsical images that perfectly expose the stylish fun of this shoot. From the bright red hair and soft pink dress to the luxurious garden rose and anemone bouquet, these images embody the “Modern Marie” in all her glamour.

Austin Spring Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

One of our favorite things about this styled shoot from the wonderful Photo by Betsy, Bricolage Curated Florals, and Olive & Rye is how it shows you don’t need a ton of color to give off a feeling of spring. Sure, we love loud punches of color, but the crisp white and green color palette in this wedding inspiration makes us feel refreshed, inspired, and helps us focus on the love between the bride and groom.

austin spring wedding inspiration - photo by Photo by Betsy http://ruffledblog.com/austin-spring-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Photo by Betsy: This Nordic-inspired Spring shoot was brought on simply by the idea of a “simple” wedding. I wanted to photograph something clean, sweet, and clear. For place mats, we gathered white/off-white records. The place “cards” are found river rocks marked just by using a white sharpie paint pen tied with a thin piece of twine around them for a simple frill. 2Tarts Bakery in New Braunfels contributed a smooth two-tiered white cake, creme brûlée macaroons and jam thumbprint cookies (placed on a vintage hand drum).

With a flower-adorned passed-down ladder and old photos of family members in love, we tied in personal touches. For smaller details, the bride wore a brown beaded belt from Anthropologie and the groom wore a precious ivory whale tie clip from J. Crew. We had so much fun celebrating the couple’s love and gawking at every simple touch from the shoot’s designer.

Microbrewed Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Lavender & Twine

How absolutely incredible is this reception space, Camarillo’s own Institution Ale Co.? The microbrewery served as the inspiration behind today’s styled shoot, lovingly put together by Shindig Fancy and These Buds A Blooming and photographed by Lavender & Twine. The result is about what you’d imagine – a perfect blend of masculine-meets-feminine decor with plenty of romantic details and floral arrangements thrown in for good measure.

From Crystal of Shindig Fancy: The inspiration for this shoot was the ever-growing American Craft Brewing industry. The guys over at Institution Ale Co. were gracious enough to host us in their new industrial space in Camarillo, CA. Another big inspiration was the increasing personalization of weddings in the past few of years where couples are using their big day to showcase their personal styles and interests. One of these interests comes in the form of customizing the bar menu to their taste. If the venue permits, beer enthusiasts are choosing to forgo the corporate cans and bottles to bring in a keg or two from their favorite local Microbrewery.

Beer drinking guests will be grateful to have a tasty libation to sip on throughout the night, but what about the non-beer drinkers you may ask? Taking the theme a little farther, we also decided to create The Whiskey Bean, a signature drink using the microbrew as one of the main ingredients, one that pleases the taste buds of non-beer drinking guest as well. Our ‘couple’ eloped and then returned home to host a lovely reception for their closest friends and family in their local brewery.

Oatlands Plantation Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Love by Serena

Between the two of them, Sarah of Sarah Park Events and Love By Serena have so much talent that we’re just a bit speechless. Who else could serve up this inspiration shoot filled with such breathtakingly gorgeous accents and details? Let’s jump into some serious pretty:

From the designer, Sarah of Sarah Park Events: With Spring just around the corner, our vision for this shoot was to use bright colors and bring the outdoors in. Having that vision in mind, the greenhouse at Oatlands Historic House & Gardens in Leesburg, VA was the best venue to bring our vision to life.

The history behind the greenhouse is just amazing and you can see that through the photos. The old exposed brick walls was one of our favorite spots to take bridal portraits, very romantic and filled with lots of character. Our color inspiration came from the greenhouse itself so we were able to use a lot of fun and bright colors. The great thing about having events at greenhouses is that the weather can be cold and snowy outside but the inside will always be warm and colorful. We had to brave an icy cold day that day but I am extremely happy with how everything turned out and I can’t thank my vendors enough!

New Orleans Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Kate Ignatowski

One of our all-time favorite decorative accents is Spanish moss. It immediately brings to mind Southern tree-filled expanses, even when the South is nowhere near in sight! Kate Ignatowski and Mimosa Florals brought a little bit of the South to Brooklyn, NY in this New Orleans inspired wedding shoot, with endless modern elements guaranteed to inspire you.

New Orleans inspired wedding ideas - photo by Kate Ignatowski http://ruffledblog.com/new-orleans-inspired-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Kate Ignatowski: We shot at 501 Union, a newer venue in Brooklyn, and immediately pictured a bayou, New Orleans vibe with lots of candle-light to go with the modern, refined elements of the space. How could you not have a cognac tasting at that bar! We had the calligrapher create a menu with the couple’s favorite cognacs and included assorted decanters for an intimate feel. We thought a couple that included a cognac tasting would have an appreciation for great food, so we went with rich cakes and assorted chocolates for dessert. To inspire foodie-loving couples, we displayed thoughtful, individually written recipes for each guest as their favor.

Spanish moss was a major element used to tie in the bayou feel. We draped it from the ceiling, drenched the tablescape with it, and incorporated bits in the altar piece. I LOVE the asymmetrical design in the altar with the moss + garden floral elements tied together with orange and gray ribbon. We kept with pops of yellow and orange to compliment the cognac and grays to complement the moss. The invitation suite has a splash of yellow-orange along with hand written gray graphite for a modern touch.

Metallic Garden Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Day 7 Photography

Today’s styled shoot is a true experiment in classic romantic details – metallic tones, pinks, lush flowers, and a garden setting make this shoot truly shine. Of course, it doesn’t hurt to have a team of incredibly talented vendors, including Day 7 Photography, Leave the Details To Me, and Flora Fetish, to execute the vision to utter perfection.

metallic garden wedding inspiration - photo by Day 7 Photography http://ruffledblog.com/metallic-garden-wedding-inspiration/

From the photographer, Sean of Day 7 Photography: Here’s a shoot I recently had the privilege of photographing. Some of Austin’s best vendors were involved and we all had a great time. The purpose of this shoot was the highlight the trend of silver and gold working together. We loved the contrast of this garden with metallics. The metallics in our details highlight the “glam” element while juxtaposing with the beautiful gardens and florals. Another element that we feel stood out was the use of a non-traditional bouquet. The horns mixed with florals and beads adds to the theme of garden metallics.

Cotton Field Winter Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Julie Paisley

We always love seeing unique sites for weddings and inspiration shoots, so we were delighted when this shoot from Julie Paisley Photography fell into our laps! This dreamy winter shoot takes place in the heart of a cotton field, and effortlessly blends hues of green, blue, gold, and berry tones with help from the talented Megan Martin Weddings, AVD, and Shea Hopely Flowers.

From the shoot designer, Megan Martin: Being a designer in the South brings tons of brides who want summery styled weddings and why not, it fits just perfectly! But I have been dreaming of a fete for “I Do”s rich in colors of berry, greens, gold and navy on the back drop of a winter wonderland. So naturally we headed for Southern snow: cotton. The drive was a dreamy ride of passing green field after field filled with horses along the way, but there are no words that can truly describe the wonder of a sight that opened up ’round the last bend. White. Miles and miles of it as far as the eye can see. It took my breath away! A dream like location for a wintery Southern Soiree.

As far as the details, I wanted to evoke a welcoming environment that beckons guests to cozy up and stay awhile all while enjoying tastes of the seasons like creamy butternut squash soup, fresh loaves of bread topped with Camembert and cranberries and warm apple spiced cocktails. Mixed textured metals and a touch of glitter were added to juxtapose the organic setting befitting a night of dancing and celebration under the stars!

Southwestern Desert Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Clayton Austin

Well, the secret’s out — not only is Clayton Austin a photographer extraordinaire; he also knows how to put together quite the styled shoot. Earlier this year, Clayton held a photography workshop in Marfa, TX that was nothing short of total beauty, and we’ve got the evidence to prove it!

southwestern desert wedding ideas - photo by Clayton Austin - view more: http://ruffledblog.com/southwestern-desert-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Clayton Austin: Marfa is set in the middle of the west Texas desert and I really wanted to incorporate this vast beautiful landscape into the theme of the shoot. I imagined something organic and unique with accents of white, pops of rich colors, and touches of leather. For the bouquet I gathered simple green foliage and bound it with earthy jute twine pulling it all together with strips of leather belts purchased at my local thrift store. I found the stunning textile breast plate at a market days festival on Nantucket Island. Isobel and Cleo has some of the most amazing textile clothes in the entire world!

After seeing some vintage macrame hangers at an antique store in Santa Monica I was immediately inspired to incorporate them in a unique way. I found some smaller plates that fit my cakes perfectly and kept the sides of the hangers from digging into the cakes. I really loved how they turned out and had never seen such a unique cake display. I think an entire wall of macramé hanging deserts would be oh so stellar. Instead of more traditional tables and chairs I opted from something a tad more unexpected by removing the legs of a table I purchased from World Market and placing it on metal baskets. I then completed the arrangement with floor cushions and rawhide rugs.

After collecting a few antler sheds from a local shop I hand painted them using golds and pinks. This was such a simple project and am looking forward to displaying the antlers in my own home. The blue lab is my baby girl, Mattie. After a super successful career of modeling she has decided to retire. This was such a fun shoot to style and am always so inspired by the unexpected! Never be afraid to think outside the box and take risks!

Bohemian Luxe Winter Wedding

Wedding Design

A winter wedding inspiration shoot that’s equal parts glam, bohemian, and romantic is one that I simply can’t come across enough. Amy Nicole Photography, Kelly Dellinger Events, and Anne Whitson came together for this brilliant photo shoot with warm purple-pinks, gold, and plenty of bridal style.

From the photographer, Amy Nicole Photography: I recently did this inspiration shoot with an amazing team of vendors in the area and they helped my vision come together perfectly! We wanted to create a winter inspiration shoot, but with a bohemian twist. Laura at Southern Events had the brilliant idea of braided table runners, which we thought was a beautiful touch.

We envisioned a luxurious approach to winter 2013/2014, set in a French mansion-style atmosphere. Design was largely interior-inspired, featuring some stunning pieces of ornate furniture and a long tablescape with mixed metal candlesticks of varying heights. When we found Riverwood Mansion, it was just perfect for the shoot. We had envisioned a room with a baroque-style gold mirror, and when we first visited Riverwood, the mirror above the fireplace couldn’t have been more perfect. We also planned for understated floral design with full, open blooms in jewel-tone hues that provided a beautiful contrast against a champagne satin linen and braided table runners. We decided to go for a simply elegant place setting with mix-matched silverware and metal goblets to throw in an eclectic feel amongst the luxurious table setting. The bar vignette featured Gatsby-esque drinkware and a “naked” cake topped with pomegranate seeds.

Our bride donned a beautiful Sarah Seven gown along with a delicate veil. She traded in the veil after the ceremony for a dainty gilded Twigs & Honey headpiece — the perfect mix of bohemian and luxury. The bridesmaid also wore Sarah Seven and brought a little more glitz to the table.

Cupid’s Arrow Valentine’s Day Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Obscura Photoworks

What’s Valentine’s Day without a bit of whimsy inspired by Cupid himself? Anissa Manzo of Urban Poppy and Obscura Photoworks worked up this short but sweet shoot with the perfect Valentine’s Day floral arrangements and an incredible hanging display of Cupid’s arrows and flowers. Let’s jump in!

From the stylist, Anissa Manzo of Urban Poppy: For the overhang, I loved hanging the different colored roses intermixed with Cupid’s arrows, precariously hanging over the couple and tablescape. Romantic and “dangerous” at the same time. Radiant orchid is the 2014 color of the year which inspired the jacket worn by the model with her bouquet of roses that looked like they were designed for each other! We all know that red is the holiday’s historic color and although pink is sweet, radiant orchid and light purples add a playful side and look amazing with red.

The chunky red necklace made of coral (urban poppy) is quite the statement piece and lends a bold yet fun element tour model. Overall, our inspiration was fun, playful romance — combining a color palette that in past years might seem to clash, but with today’s look create something more modern, refreshing and interesting.

Western Nomadic Styled Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Buena Lane

Growing up, there was always a little part of me that wished I lived on Little House on the Prairie – and this styled shoot brings me right back to that time. With images from Buena Lane and styling + flowers by Lilify, their selected color palette of mustards, ivories, and browns nails the Western aesthetic.

western nomadic styled shoot via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Eileen of Buena Lane: Inspired by the picturesque sparseness of late autumn in Carmel Valley, we aimed to create and capture an aesthetic that was just a little bit raw with elements of simple rusticity. Georis Tasting Room, with its medley of textures and materials, proved the ideal venue to stage a Western Nomadic shoot. The styling and décor stemmed from a color schematic inspired by the austere surfaces of leather, wood, and rusted metal juxtaposed by bridal ivories and fall mustards.

The use of horseshoes tied to the escort cards, rosette pine cones as place card holders and feather accents reinforced the organic approach to a wedding celebration. With vintage Victorian dresses courtesy of Foxy Couture, the Bride wore a delicate white eyelet dress partnered with harsh cognac leather boots. For the bridal hair (by Oya Salon, with flowers by Lilify) we aimed for romantic, yet dramatic. Makeup artist Stacie Dunn composed a flawless, fresh face.

Aztec Winter Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

If you asked me to plan the ideal upbeat winter wedding, it would look exactly like this inspiration JBM Weddings and Ash Orzol. The duo wanted to design a winter wedding with a modern Aztec influence and plenty of awesome geometric and crystal touches, thanks to the team with Jove Meyer Events and 2H Flowers.

Aztec Winter Wedding Inspiration via ruffledblog.com
Aztec Winter Wedding Inspiration via ruffledblog.com

From the shoot designer, Ash Orzol: The inspiration behind the shoot was about bringing the Aztec/boho feel to an intimate upstate winter wedding. We wanted to keep things modern yet rustic so we weren’t taking away from the venue, because we wanted it to feel organic. I think it’s always best to make the wedding reflect the bride and groom but also be an extension of the surroundings.

We also wanted it to have an attainable DIY aspect to the wedding. We did this by creating handmade accents such as the painted utensils, the mobiles, the garlands and the dipped feathers for the ceremony. In order to really showcase what we each do as vendors, we decided to do an entire faux wedding instead of just doing a styled shoot.

Texan Garden Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s styled shoot goes to show how important the right wedding venue can be. The supremely gorgeous garden area of Travaasa Austin is an utter dream, blending garden whimsy with nothing short of elegant sophistication. With a talented team consisting of She-n-He Photography, The Simplifiers, and Rosehip Flora, is it any wonder we’re so in love with this shoot?

From the stylist, Mary of The Simplifiers: This wedding is for the bride who wants something different. With a sophisticated style and a love for the outdoors, this couple is one looking for a venue that very few have discovered so far. Travaasa Austin, named one of the Top 10 Destination Spas in the US by TripAdvisor and just recently began offering their experiential resort for exclusive weddings. With 70 sleeping rooms on-site, plus horseback riding, yoga, full spa and more, this destination is a gorgeous location for a weekend getaway wedding.

When we stepped inside Solidago Gardens for the first time, we knew this space was magical. We were so inspired by the fall colors of the trees and natural lighting that seeps into the space. About the exact opposite of a traditional hotel ballroom. Playing off the autumn colors of the surroundings, we added pops of hot pink and navy blue into the floral design, including unexpected elements like gold shimmery spray painted tillandsia air plants for the place card holders.

Black and Gold New Year’s Eve

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Nancy Ebert

If there’s anything New Year’s Eve has become synonymous with over the years, it’s one heck of a party. This shoot, photographed by Nancy Ebert and dressed to the nines by OhSoPretty Party Boutique, is just that – a clean and modern wedding inspiration session with heaps of glitter, confetti, and balloons. 2014 here we come!

black and gold new years eve via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Nancy Ebert: I teamed up with some of my favorite wedding vendors from Germany to create a “black & gold” themed styled shoot. The idea behind it was to create a clean and elegant look for a modern couple in a more industrial-like setting. The shooting was in late November with New Year’s Eve 2014 just around the corner, so we included a little celebration in it and just had tons of fun.

From the idea to the actual photoshoot it took us no more than two weeks – including our search for models. We were looking for a non-professional but deeply-in-love-couple. So we called for all followers of my facebook page to send in applications. The only requirement for applicants was to have a total crush on each other and some spare time on the date of the planned shoot. Within the same day we had about 50 applications from so many wonderful people. We actually received so many beautiful applications that it was hard to pick just one couple. But I believe with Corinna and Dennis we chose the perfect couple. They were on fire and did an awesome job without any modeling experience whatsoever. So in the end we had just a blast and let the good times roll.

From Katy Bohls of Sweet Sunday Events: I called upon a handful of my very favorite vendors make this constellation inspired shoot come together flawlessly. And, let me tell you, it was out of this world amazing. I mean, really. A hanging constellation installation framed the bride and groom at the altar and stars suspended above the reception table. The altar installation was made of paper mache stars and small wooded rods, glued and pieced together to create a half-moon shape. Dressed in a beautiful gold gown from Serendipity Bridal, the bride stood glistening with a fuchsia and pink bouquet which added a nice pop of color. And didn’t Shalynn of Love, The Nelsons capture every table top detail so perfectly through her talented lens?! She didn’t miss a beat. From Yuling Design’s amazing paper goods and the hand dyed runner to all the beautiful concoctions created by PinkAvocado and custom star plates (more on that coming up!), it was all perfectly aligned to make for an amazing shoot!

Blacksmith Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s styled wedding shoot just goes to show you can find inspiration in unlimited places. Tyler of Tyler Rye Photography formed this shoot after seeing an anvil in a farmer’s work shed. He brought Swoon Vintage Rental Co. and Floral Design by Erin on board to help complete his vision, and the rest is photo shoot history!

blacksmith inspired wedding ideas // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Tyler Rye: Forged was inspired by a simple Anvil. I was working at a farmer’s house and happened to look over and see his Anvil setting on a stand near his shed. It clicked in my mind how cool it would be to do a Black Smith themed wedding shoot. I started that day to gather antique smithing tools – everything from hammers to smelting tools. The couple that modeled are friends of my wife. They have been married for two years and this was a great way for them to reconnect as a couple. The location has been a dream spot for me ever since my wife and I had our Engagement pictures taken there 3 years ago! I had a lot of help getting this shoot ready and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wife. Not only did she do the hair for the model, but she arranged both the tables and made them look amazing.

Nature Inspired Autumn Wedding

Wedding Design

I’m absolutely beside myself to share with you this styled wedding I recently cooked up. I wanted to create a shoot that focused on the more romantic side of autumn, with decayed walls and intricate textiles thrown in for some added visual interest. Jenna Trapasso Thomas of Red, White & Green Photography and McKinna Hahn of House of Ceremony jumped on board to round out my vision, and the sixth floor of Piedmont Renaissance Center was the ideal spot for a shoot.

autumn wedding shoots // via ruffledblog.com

My main inspiration point was textiles, with some metallic and deep amethyst thrown in. I love the pizazz that gold brings, but I wanted to focus more on gold’s warmer sister, copper, to give things a fresher look. I knew I wanted the tablescape to be full of natural elements, so I used greenery with some lesser-used flowers and petite pumpkins to create the base. Most challenging was the ceremony backdrop, which took quite a few late nights watching The Cosby Show, gluing down rolled yarn, and making dip-dyed tassels. In the end, it turned out to be my favorite piece.

The shoot wouldn’t be complete without the incredible Lulu gown from BHLDN. It was the perfect amount of glamor to escalate the feel of the shoot, and the headpiece + bouquet made by McKinna of House of Ceremony (who doubled as our model) brought it to the next level. We were even able to use one of her vintage gowns for some added romance! Jamie of Julia’s Poppies Design took care of the invitation suite, which was the ideal match for the shoot aesthetic and dark romantic vibe. Everyone brought their A game to the table for a shoot that was completed in record time, and I’m forever indebted to them.

Dia de los Muertos Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Vanessa Velez

We wanted to continue to share more Dia de los Muertos inspiration today, this time shot and styled by Vanessa Velez. Much more colorful than how we know our Halloween to be, Dia de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico and other countries today and tomorrow with All Souls Day.

From the photographer and stylist, Vanessa Velez: We have put together this themed shoot in celebration of the Day of the Dead, taking ideas from the cultural background and festivities that take place on that day. We concentrated on the beautiful colorful aspect of it and the use of wild and beautiful flowers. Our take was a mix of the traditional ideas with the influence of the modern bride and groom.

E.E Cummings Inspired Halloween Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Babb Photo

As a literature major, one of my all-time favorite poets is ee cummings, so you can imagine my delight in seeing the use of his poem “i carry your heart with me” in many a wedding these days. Babb Photo took this very poem as inspiration for this styled shoot, completed with the help of the talented Always Andri and Boutique Blooms.

heart themed weddings // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Laura of Babb Photo: This shoot was inspired by a series of still life pictures of real hearts tied with ribbon. The use of anatomically correct hearts, along with the ee cummings quote “I carry your heart with me, I carry it in my heart” was the starting point for the shoot’s styling. Weddings are all about two hearts finding each other but this is often depicted by the symbolic red heart, rather than showing the realism of an actual heart.

To counteract the slightly macabre feel of using anatomically correct organs, we wanted the rest of the styling to be beautiful and luxurious. Rich fabrics, pewter, and touches of luxury were used to counterbalance the Gothic feel and Asylum London, a former chapel Peckham made the perfect backdrop with opulent stained glass windows set against crumbling plaster. Our main aim was to show that edgy and luxurious can go hand in hand with beautiful results. You can achieve a high end, elegant alternative feel.

Day After Lifestyle Session

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Vicky Starz

With today’s shoot from Sweet Woodruff and Vicky Starz Photography, we’re taking a bit of our detour from the normal styled session. This shoot is one part sweet, one part daring, and a heaping dose of ooh-la-la appeal thrown in for good measure. This no-frills approach to the day after the engagement is everything we love, all tied up in a pretty little package:

indoor styled sessions

From the stylist, Lisa Collins of Sweet Woodruff: The inspiration for this shoot was the cool couples we work with, couples that have a great sense of style and a fun sense of humour. We love hearing our couples’ stories: how they met, how they fell in love, how he proposed. So we wanted to capture that love and beauty in the simplicity of just being with each other and that warm feeling of being at home – the place that’s just for the two you.

When I was styling the shoot, I envisioned how our couple would be spending the night of their engagement, how he would pop the question and they would celebrate, just the two of them, simply, over red wine and cake. But it was the “day after” that I really wanted to tell the story of. Because that’s when the couple really gets to revel in their engagement — spending the whole day at home, wrapped up in each other. I imagined our bride-to-be in sweet outfits she would wear around the house. I wanted her to be really sexy, but still playful. I wanted her to still feel like herself. Fortnight’s lingerie really allowed us to convey that, with their gorgeous, vintage inspired pieces that are so wearable. Emily Sara Pike really completed the look by creating day-after smoky eyes, and the perfect disheveled bed-head. (Sometimes it takes a lot of effort to look effortless.)

I wanted the flowers to be really romantic and natural. I imagined our groom bringing them home as a sweet surprise, filling the house with her favourite blooms. The Bespoken Fine Quality Print cards we used for the shoot were perfectly in keeping with our sexy and playful, but down-to-earth theme. The stunning hand-printed cards are witty, simple and to the point. Perfect little love letters that punctuated our story. Vicky’s photography captured exactly the mood we were trying to set. Soft, simple and natural. We wanted to keep the look authentic, not “over-done” and Vicky managed to do just that.

As a graphic designer, I believe that great graphic design is in the details {read: spending lots of time at the computer looking at pixels.} If you dont know what a pixel is- congratulations- because that’s why graphic designer types exist! {to save your eyesight} Really, though-design is more than matching colors and picking pretty fonts {but I do have major love for fonts} – it’s about conveying your message to the world with a swirl, a flourish, a dot, a pattern- whatever it takes to creatively encompass your clients vision and send that vision out into the world with impact.

That’s what I try to do. EMPHASIS on TRY. I adore designing and am currently the owner of NOTEDOCCASIONS.COM , an online site catering to everyone who loves having a party. And who doesn’t because as I see it, life’s a party!

Silver Wedding Anniversary Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Scarlet O'Neill

Recently gold has been receiving a lot of love in the styling world, but we don’t want to forget about gold’s just-as-glittery counterpart, silver! Scarlet O’Neill and Ashley Lindzon Events teamed up to show that, once the wedding’s over, the parties don’t have to stop!

silver love signs

From the stylist, Ashley of Ashley Lindzon Events: This creative shoot was designed to inspire couples to continue celebrating once the wedding has passed and to remember that “the best is yet to come”. The emphasis during the wedding planning is naturally on the big day but we think the partying can continue to celebrate life and love. And love is exactly what this shoot was all about.

The champagne bar was inspired by Kate Spade’s ‘Pop, Fizz, Clink!’ Holiday cards. The bar was filled with bottles of Veuve Cliquot and accessorized with raspberries, blackberries and sugar cubes. Champagne glasses were adorned with rock candy stir sticks.

The sweet table was framed with silver fringe curtains and had a chandelier hanging to add some extra sparkle. A white ruffle wedding cake was made by Bobbette and Belle and we added a DIY ‘l-o-v-e’ silver glittered cake topper. Other desserts included mini wedding cakes, white chocolate covered pretzels, vanilla marshmallows, white chocolate hearts, powder sugar donuts and white and silver lollipops. Above the desserts was a sign that read ‘First Comes Love, Then Comes Dessert’, a perfect sentiment for a couple celebrating their one year anniversary.

Champagne, wedding cake and silver sparkles were the main focus so we set up a champagne bar with all the fixings and a bright white and sparkly silver sweet table. From custom rock candy stir sticks to glitter rimmed ice cold milk shots, this display had it all. We even included a glazed donut favor station.
