Gold and Lavender Portland Ballroom Editorial

Photographer Sarah of Hazelwood Photo describes the aesthetic of this shoot as “classically romantic,” and we couldn’t agree more. Gather Event Planning and Starflower used a color palette of gold and lavender to create an utterly glam scene in one of Portland’s most stunning venues, The Sentinel Hotel.

From the photographer, Sarah of Hazelwood Photo: The Sentinel Hotel’s Renaissance Room was the inspiration for this photo shoot. The Renaissance Room takes your breath away as you soak up the rich plum tones, marbled walls, and gilded details. The talented vendors who collaborated on this shoot chose to create a classically romantic look with stunning elements to build inspiration, like the cake by award-winning cake designer Elizabeth Marek, owner of Artisan Cake Company and the luxurious La Tavola linens provided by Something Borrowed Vintage Rentals. The wedding dress was custom designed for the shoot by Holly Stalder, owner of The Diamond Sea. Hazelwood Photo did an amazing job capturing the beauty of it all! The Sentinel Hotel is housed in one of Portland’s most beautiful historic buildings in the heart of the city. Just weeks after our shoot, the hotel was used for President Barack Obama’s visit to Portland.

Fairmont San Francisco Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Delbarr Moradi

Newlyweds Erin and Tom wanted their wedding day to be two things: 1) classic, and 2) an embodiment of the spirit of San Francisco. This goal resulted in a romantic and relaxed aesthetic with heaps of fun pops of gold and navy. It’s a pretty obvious given that any wedding sent our way from Delbarr Moradi and styled by Jacin of Lovely Little Details is going to be a winner, so let’s move on to the eye candy:

From the bride, Erin: We wanted our wedding to have a classic feel, so when we look at our album in 30 years, hopefully we won’t be like, “what were we thinking?!” It was also important to us that our wedding embody San Francisco, as most of our guests were flying in from the east coast, and many had never been to San Fran before.

I’d describe the look of our wedding as feminine, romantic and fun. Our colors were navy, lavender, and creams with pops of gold. My husband and I fell in love with the historic elegance and magnificent views at the Fairmont. It was the perfect quintessential San Francisco backdrop for what we hoped would be a classic, elegant, and most importantly, fun wedding. I had a blast planning our wedding and a lot of the details and colors were inspired by the Fairmont. We worked with fabulous vendors that made it all come together. I think our guests had a genuinely good time, and thoroughly enjoyed the details of the day, which was what we were hoping for.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? I’d definitely recommend working with a wedding planner. It was a huge relief knowing that on our wedding day, everything was being handled by somebody else. I was able to enjoy the day with my husband, family and friends.

Melbourne Wedding at the Prince

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

I’m all kinds of excited to share today’s wedding with you all! The phenomenally talented Washington-based Sergio Mottola traveled all the way over to Melbourne, Australia to capture the day of Gloria and Tom at The Prince Deck planned by Simply Georgeous Events. All I can say is this: if you think you know hotel weddings, prepare to have your socks completely blown off.

From the bride, Gloria: We wanted something intimate, relaxed, fun and not at all fussy. A little bit rustic and very Melbourne. This made Circa the perfect space for our wedding and having it happen at dusk meant that we would be bathed in twilight as we walked down the aisle on the deck. We definitely didn’t want it to be a typical Chinese-style banquet wedding. We pictured about 90 of our closest friends and families coming together and having an amazing time – with great music, great food. It was as much about them as it was about us.

We initially wanted to have the whole thing outdoors on a farm property with a marquee/barn for the reception. However, logistically and budget-wise, it just wasn’t going to happen. So we kept the same rustic, farm-style feel of it, cleaned it up a little and brought it all inside. The deck was perfect because it still allowed us to be in an open space with all that beautiful twilight.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? There is no right or wrong way to plan a wedding – do what feels right. For us, it was having our lovely friends at Georgeous do it all for us and they did an amazing job. We wanted to take the stress of planning away from our friends and just be able to throw a solid party. As for the lead up to the day, I think it’s important to be in the moment and enjoy the process together with your partner.
