Martin Johnson House San Diego Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

This beachy San Diego wedding shot by Marissa Rodriguez was handcrafted by the bride and groom, and amongst the fun little details there were artichokes! They used them throughout their decor, mixing natural elements and vintage finds. They also used river rocks for guests to leave them a message; at the end of the day they had a fun guestbook to bring home! They also used wine bottles as part of their centerpieces. A long time ago I shared this DIY on a quick dripping candle effect that is worth a peek!

Long Beach DIY Wedding

DIY Weddings

Photos by:

Today’s bride and groom put together their amazingly creative minds and hands to pull off their Long Beach, CA wedding. The groom, Jonathan, is a jeweler who made all of the groomsmen’s cufflinks, the centerpieces, and the altar, while Amy took on the flower arrangements. They lined the altar with Amy’s grandmother’s quilt, which was also used in their engagement session and it was their main source of inspiration for their wedding. She wore vintage wedding dress she found in Chile and had it altered with added flutter sleeves… Just wait until you see her amazing birdcage veil! Thanks to Chad Cress for sharing this wedding with us.

As a graphic designer, I believe that great graphic design is in the details {read: spending lots of time at the computer looking at pixels.} If you dont know what a pixel is- congratulations- because that’s why graphic designer types exist! {to save your eyesight} Really, though-design is more than matching colors and picking pretty fonts {but I do have major love for fonts} – it’s about conveying your message to the world with a swirl, a flourish, a dot, a pattern- whatever it takes to creatively encompass your clients vision and send that vision out into the world with impact.

That’s what I try to do. EMPHASIS on TRY. I adore designing and am currently the owner of NOTEDOCCASIONS.COM , an online site catering to everyone who loves having a party. And who doesn’t because as I see it, life’s a party!

Custom invitation design requests are always welcome – we welcome the opportunity to make your event absolutely perfect!

DIY Wishbook

DIY Projects

Photos by:

This project sent by Sanja is DIY as it gets. She made her wedding guest book entirely from scratch – from the sheets of handmade paper to binding!

 diy wishbook album

What you’ll need:
– 3 sheets of printing paper
– 1 sheet of watercolor paper or heavy stock paper (you can find it here)
– half a handful of cotton wad
– 3 tissues
– 1 tbsp rosemary leaves (you can find it here)
– 1 tbsp lavender flowers (you can find it here)
– 5 cups water
– sisal craft twine (you can find it here)
– food processor
– rolling pin
– hole punch
– scissors
– glue

The amount above is sufficient for 1 A4 sheet of recycled paper, or two 9×5 inch sheets for the wishbook. Depending on the wished quantity of sheets, increase the amounts of ingredients.
Step 1. Tear the paper into 1×1 inch scraps. Pull the cotton wad and tissues into similarly sized pieces. Mix. Add 4 cups of water. Heat the remaining 1 cup and pour over lavender flowers and rosemary leaves. Let it stand for 5-10 minutes to release the scents. Pour over the paper mixture. Let stand for at least one hour, or overnight.
Step 2. Pour the mixture into the food processor. Pulse until well-blended, resembling cooked oatmeal. Spread a 16×16 inch piece of linen. Pour the mixture over. Cover with another 16×16 inch piece of linen, and tap lightly with your hands, to arrange the mixture into a sheet. Roll the rolling pin over the sheet, to reach 0,2 inch thickness. Uncover and leave to dry (for approximately 1 day).
Step 3. During the first several hours, cover the sheet with linen and then with a towel, and roll the rolling pin across, so as to absorb the extra liquid.
Step 4. Once the sheet is almost dry, you can form different textures on it. Apply the wished motif and press (with books or other heavy items).
Step 5. When the sheet is dry, you may cut it into wished shapes and sizes. Sheets for this wishbook were cut into 9×5 inch pieces. When cut, punch two holes on each piece, and pull the twine through. You can use a rosemary sprig to tie the opposite ends of twine to it.

Step 6. For the title, use one of the scraps of paper and write the title on it. Slightly press with the pencil so as to imprint the title. Dab some glue into each of the letters and press the twine into the indentations.

DIY Vintage Wedding Book

DIY Projects

Photos by:

Our next entry was submitted by Maegan, who made a DIY Vintage Weeding Book. She reused a hardcover from old book to create a beautiful keepsake. She also sent us step by step instructions on how to bind blank pages and turn into this precious guestbook!

From Maegan:
This book would replace the traditional sign in guest book. Ideally it would be available for guests to write in during the entirety of the wedding activities. The idea is to have more words and meaning to your guest book than a person’s signature alone would give. It would also give the bride and groom something to read and possibly learn new things about each other. And once pictures are inserted, it can be a perfect recap of the wedding.

Hand Bound Albums

Wedding Design

Photos by:

I’ve been searching everywhere for an off the beaten path album, and I think we have a winner! These are actually handbound journals, and the cover of some are made with vintage handkerchiefs. So up my alley. These books are luxe looking keepsakes. Do you think it can work as an album by adding black photo corners ? Made by Natalie As Is. The dainty details make me weak in the knees.
