Strawberries and Gingham Bouquet Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Spring is a season that just begs to see bright and fun fabrics, so we were understandably excited to see this cheery gingham bouquet inspiration created by Karin Woodward of Haute Horticulture and shot by Annabella Charles Photography. We’re particularly fond of the hodgepodge of different flowers in varying shades of pink, and not to mention that scrumptious-looking strawberry and whipped cream cake!

Bride’s Bouquet:
All of the above flowers:
Pink: Hydrangea, Sweet Pea, Tulips, Waxflower, Hyacinth, and includes extra Green Hellebore, Pink Jasmine Vine, Double Knock Out Roses (from my garden) in hot pink, and Honeysuckle vine.

From the event stylist, Karin of Haute Horticulture: We took 5 “bridesmaid’s” bouquets different flowers… same colors. We then recycled them and made the “bridal” bouquet. We took Pink Gingham fabric from the local fabric store and tied a giant bow around the bouquet instead of ribbon. The fabric actually holds a big bow much better than ribbon and is super cute. We then made a cute summertime cake with whipped cream and strawberries instead of icing.

Festive Rancho del Cielo Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

If you’re in need of a boost of vitamin D on this gloomy afternoon, this wedding designed by the ladies of Bash, Please is just what the doctor ordered. Shot by Love Me Sailor, filmed by Shark Pig with music by The Flashdance and delish food by Heirloom LA, how could you not? Love the burst of color and pops of gingham + chevron. It makes me long for summer days, or maybe I’m just on the wrong coast.

Joel and I always envisioned our wedding outdoors, it’s a must living in Southern California. To our dismay, the week leading up to the wedding was unseasonably cool and gray, a big concern for a sun lover like myself. We got heaters at the last minute for fear that it was going to be in the 60s and overcast. What an amazing joy on the morning of the wedding when I woke up to the most gorgeous sunny day, and it was perfect all the way through. Only my family from Miami could complain that it was a little too chilly for them, but that’s what the heaters were for!

Joel and I are both artists so we decided early on that we wanted lots of color to bring out the vibrancy of our personalities. It was important to include lots of details and personal touches, the little things that make a wedding memorable. (There was no particular theme.) We selected shades of blue, yellow, orange, green, with gray and wood accents. Thanks to our coordinators Paige and Kelly of Bash, Please we were able to add touches of color that brought life to an otherwise bland venue. This also gave it a certain DIY feel, but retained an elegant sophistication that is hard to pull off with lots of color.

Another big factor was the food. We asked ourselves early on if we could ever remember the food we ate at a wedding, (we couldn’t!) and after a spectacular tasting, we decided to hire Heirloom LA. Our guests are still talking about how good the food and the drinks were!

Wedding Songs:
For our ceremony, we hired a gospel choir to perform during our ceremony, they are the talented True Worship Gospel Singers of Rancho Cucamonga. They sang Love and Happiness by Al Green as our recessional. (I can’t remember the processional song, I didn’t really hear it anyway.)

Joel and I danced to Otis Redding’s “That’s how strong my love is”. It was a tearjerker.

Charming Alabama Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

For those here in the U.S, happy 4th of July! I spotted this gorgeous wedding on Heather Hester Photography‘s blog (one of our amazing Blue Label members’ blogs!), and I thought it would make the perfect wedding to share today. Is there anything more Americana than vintage Coca-Cola memorabilia? I am also in LOVE with the groom and groomsmen’s gingham shirts and striped bow-ties.

Retro Nautical Wedding

Real Weddings, Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

We’re kicking off the week with a deliciously fun rockabilly Florida wedding shot by Shannon Nicole Smith. Michelle and Steven’s wedding is chock full of heartfelt touches and vintage details. Michelle is also a wedding photographer, so it’s always a good day at Ruffled HQ whenever we get a real wedding of a pro!

From Juli Vaughn of Juli Vaughn Designs who helped Michelle create her retro Nautical / vintage theme through tons of DIY ideas:
Michelle was a blast to work with because she had a very clear vision of what she wanted the wedding to “feel” like. She had these amazing pictures of 50’s and 60’s Nautical scenes and she wanted to work from that idea and keep the wedding very “homemade.” I loved her colors so much because they’re so fresh: Cherry Red, Navy, Light Creamy Peach, Sunny Yellow, and a delicious Minty Blue.

She really did most of the personalized DIY stuff – everything from making flower accessories for each of her bridesmaids out of zippers to constructing her bolero and birdcage veil. She worked tirelessly – she was still sewing the backdrop for her photobooth the night before which was adorable and slightly crazy! I helped her with making sure the accessories went together and added to the look rather than distracted. We taped tons of “button flowers”, glued paper leaves, and sewed nautical flags together. One of the things she really loved and wanted was birds somewhere and I came up with the idea to make the birdtoppers for her cake instead of trying to buy them because they can get really pricey. They’re one of my favorite things from her wedding because they captured her colors and that homemade feel so perfectly.

From Shannon: The bottle they are holding has a lot of meaning for them. For fear of butchering the story, I will tell you all that it was once filled with their love letters and buried under a rock in the earlier years of their relationship, was dug up many years later during Steven’s proposal, and was now thrown into the ocean on the day of their wedding. If you are a young bachelor, please take notes. Steven has got the ‘romance’ department cornered. The two of them together care for each other, take care of each other, and spoil each other in the most loving ways and it is definitely awesome to witness.

From the bride, Michelle:
What I made myself was my bolero and veil, most of the accessories my bridesmaids, sisters, mom wore, unique for each one, I made my little brothers bow-tie, signage and decor for all the baked goods, candy buffet, photo booth backdrop & props, glass bottle with our letters to one another. My mother along with the help of my 6 sisters and 1 brother baked and decorated each one of the amazing baked goods including the absolutely gorgeous and delicious wedding cake!

Gathered/purchased/thrifted (Vintage touches): coca-cola wooden crates, polka dot paper, buttons for the buttonieres, parasols, paper staws, vintage compass for Steven as a gift, and old fashion candy to give that vintage feel.

Sentimental: my necklace was given to me by my dad as a gift from an old antique market years ago, My mom made and decorated all the baked goods and wedding cake, family gathered during the ceremony.
