Vinewood Plantation Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Shauna Veasey Photography is gracing us today with this lovely wedding inspiration draped in the dreamiest vintage styling by J.Elliott Style you could imagine. Set in Georgia, this wedding editorial has got that feel of southern charm with a delightful juxtaposition of ample greenery and botanical arrangements by Virtu Floral Design. Rather than going the blooms route, they went for the foraged feel with spongy moss and air plants for the main table and lovely, wild creations for the bouquets; and it must be said: hello, ceremony backdrop! If you’re aiming to create wedding arrangements that incorporate more foliage than fleurs, this organic wedding inspiration has got heaps of pin-worthy ideas!

Vinewood Plantation Wedding Inspiration - http://ruffledblog.com/vinewood-plantation-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, J.Elliott Style: Inspired by a soft and muted Pantone color palette, we chose flowy iridescent fabrics to complement an organic and subdued aesthetic for this shoot. We paired bold mixings of loose and airy arrangements of greenery with very few blooms to create an earthy and foraged feel. Air plants, magnolias and thistle were a few of the floral accents we chose to enhance the bouquet and tablescape. The neutral Pantone color palette consisted of dusty blue, ivory, dusty pink, gray and old tarnished metals.

The head table was dressed with glass terrariums filled with moss and air plants. A thick arrangement of greenery and hanging lights hung above the table to draw the eye upward. Coordinating handmade paper flowers dressed the wall behind the table to add texture and color to the backdrop. The ceremony site took place under the wedding tree and featured mix matched antique chairs and wooden backdrop dressed with thick greenery and air plants.

Pablo Neruda Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

There’s nothing dreamier in the world of poets than Pablo Neruda and his romantic sonnets. With phrases like “I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where” (perfect for vows, right?), it was only a matter of time before beautiful wedding inspiration was born from these verses. A loud thank you to For the Love of Juneau for the wonderful photos with oodles of ideas to fawn over, Simply Charming Socials for the darling shoot and all of the creativity woven into it, and to Studio Aesthete for mimicking romance into flowers.

From designer and stylist, Kristine Cholakian Cooke of Simply Charming SocialsOur creative team collaborated in the mountains of North Georgia to create a dreamy elopement editorial shoot inspired by the romantic words of Sonnet XVII by Pablo Neruda. From the poem, we interpreted phrases such as “salt rose” and “the light of those flowers”… We wanted to display romance in it’s most raw form and the day was captured just so by Briana Luders of For the Love of Juneau.

In designing the shoot, we chose a palette of crema, sandalwood, mauve, mulberry, sea foam, and stone and incorporated these new neutrals into each element of the elopement from florals to place settings. Sweet words of lettered poetry adorn gauzy fabric and stepping stones. Lairsey Paper Co. also penned a full invitation suite in mulberry hued ink and we finished it off with vintage stamps. The flames of taper candles, a breezy gown, and rich lush blooms all provide movement and texture. We wanted each moment to feel natural and romantic as the wind blew. A hanging floral installation but Studio Aesthete sets the scene for vows. Mauve is the key color here, highlighted by an incredible panel of neutrals and punctuated by deep mulberry.

The bride and groom are dressed beautiful in very textured fabrics. The Elizabeth Dye gown, with it’s lengthy train and flowy long sleeves drapes so well on the auburn haired bride. And paired with a silk tulle veil from The Sentimentalist and a modern updo and fresh makeup by Hope Ferguson, she looks timeless. The groom is handsomely dressed in a fitted wool suit by Commonwealth Proper, a favorite custom menswear shop in Atlanta. The colored flecks in his suit and tie complement the beautiful tone in his eyes. During the ceremony couple reads the sweetest words to each other in an intimate canopy of greenery and garland and also joins their fabric-swathed hands in an old-world wedding ritual.

Modern Industrial Atlanta Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

W&E Photographie

With a fun, warm-weathered fête like Taylor and Richard’s, it’s almost a no-brainer that hosting it at Summerour Studio would have been so ideal for their wedding style. W&E Photographie came along to photograph all of the darling simplicity in their decor, with Mary Mcleod of Amy Osaba Events in charge of the eye-catching blooms. Erin Stapelton from Stella Harper Events did such a fantastic job at keeping the whole event classic and relaxed!

Atlanta wedding venues - photo by W&E Photographie http://ruffledblog.com/modern-industrial-atlanta-wedding

From the photographers, W&E Photographie: Taylor and Richard’s springtime wedding was held at Summerour Studio in Atlanta. We love the mix of tuscan courtyard and industrial warehouse this venue brings to the table. We go way back with Taylor & Richard. They’ve been guests at so many of our past weddings, so it was only fitting that we finally get them in front of our cameras. Taylor & Richard combined some of Atlanta’s most talented vendors to complete their wedding day. For starters, the always lovely Mary from Amy Osaba Events killed with the florals and greenery and Taylor’s perfect, flowy gown came from, none other than, The Sentamentalist. Taylor & Richard made us the happiest photographers in the world, when they wanted to keep taking couple portraits in lieu of walking into their reception on time. It was a delightful and relaxed day ending with the happy couple being lifted up over the dance floor by their guests.

Savannah weddings - photo by Rach Loves Troy http://ruffledblog.com/foraged-savannah-wedding

From the wedding coordinators, Ivory + Beau: Amber + Paul got married last October, and are one of our favorite couples we got to work with! Amber came into the shop looking for a wedding dress, and after trying on lot’s of different styles, she chose Marion by Sarah Seven. This strapless lace gown features Sarah Seven’s signature corset bodice with lace ruching, and a delicate train. We LOVE her style, and she wore the coolest necklace ever that had touches of navy, her main color. We added a velvet navy sash which really showed off her tiny waist, and her hair and makeup worked perfectly.

Kentucky Derby Inspired Wedding

Wedding Design

Are you still in need of some gorgeous southern inspiration for your big day? Thanks to Finnegan Photography, we’ve got this delightfully-southern inspiration on the blog today, complete with those larger-than-life bows and hats, a dapper gentleman, and florals out of this world from Joann’s FloristCarlson Premier Events pulled together a shoot that called upon equestrian elegance and loveliness of My Fair Lady. The blending of the two themes created a final product so darling! What’s captivated me most are the centerpieces and how the entire space was dolled up in magnificent blooms, perfectly matching the prim and properness of the whole shoot.

Classic Southern Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Feather and Stone

A sweet love story for the ages. I love Kathleen and Daniel’s wedding day. It’s infused with beautiful emotion and Feather and Stone wonderfully captured those moments on camera. Wed-101 pulled out all of their tricks and the lavish day looks like it was torn out of the pages of an Italian fairy tale, with long rectangular rows of tables and white taper candles standing tall amongst the white flowers and green foliage. Classic wedding days like this always get me a little misty-eyed!

classic Southern wedding - photo by Feather and Stone http://ruffledblog.com/classic-southern-wedding

From the bride, Kathleen: Daniel and I met when we were 16 and 18 and four years later we got married in what we called, “a piece of Italy in sweet Georgia.” Moments before our wedding ceremony, Daniel and I were able to see each other. Tears ran down our faces as we looked into each other’s eyes and declared our vows. It was all so heart felt and magical. The whole wedding process was such a dream and it meant so much to say “I do” in front of all our closest friends and family. I love Daniel with all my heart and I’m so thankful that I now get to love him for the rest of my life.

Romantic Southern Elopement Inspiration

Wedding Design

When I saw this beautiful shoot by Lindsay Herbst Photography, I immediately fell in love. I adore how Design Studio South made it so intimate with a sweetheart table just nestled in the Savannah woods, a sumptuous cobalt blue linen draped casually, and the peachiest of dahlias and ranunculus by Colonial House of Flowers: just perfect for Georgia.

romantic Southern elopement inspiration - photo by Lindsay Herbst Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-southern-elopement-inspiration

From the photographer, Lindsay Herbst Photography: I, as well as other film photographers from all over the country, came together for a 3 day styled shoot out/self taught workshop called Better Together. We had all met this past October attending another workshop in Georgia, and realized that we had learned just as much from each other, than we did from the workshop! During the workshop, and after, We all clicked so much, and really embraced the whole idea of Community Over Competition, We were constantly sharing tips on each others work, embracing our new found love of shooting film, encouraging each other, and growing from each other. A lot of us felt frustrated that there was a lack of inspiration in our areas, so we decided to collaborate on a styled shootout where we learned from each other, shared our struggles and our creative ideas.

Whimsical Engine Room Wedding

Romantic Weddings

With a timeless color palette of pink, gold, and blue, it’s all but impossible to go wrong. Sarah and Branden embraced these colors on their wedding day in Georgia with Casto Photography & Cinema and Cote Designs, celebrating a love for each other surrounded by the most important people in their lives. This wedding has a bit of everything, so let’s jump on in!

whimsical engine room wedding - photo by Casto Photography http://ruffledblog.com/whimsical-engine-room-wedding

From the photographers, Casto Photography & Cinema: High school sweethearts Sarah & Branden envisioned a destination Georgia wedding celebrating their new life in the peach state while incorporating their love for their hometown in Maryland and love for the Baltimore Orioles (Branden is a pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles organization). They wanted to create a day that was both unique but would remain timeless. Incorporating the chippy brick walls of the venue, hints of copper, a bold color palette of blues and pinks, paired with sunlight streaming through the windows and classic pairings, Sarah & Branden’s wedding was truly one of a kind and a reflection of their sweet love.

Industrial Railroad Museum Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Mackensey Alexander

New York City couple Emily and Robert made their way down south to Savannah, Georgia for their lovely DIY wedding. The couple make a living designing movie props, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that their big day would be full of quirky and thoughtfully handmade elements. Thank you to Mackensey Alexander and Ivory + Beau for your beautiful work on this day!

industrial railroad museum wedding - photo by Mackensey Alexander http://ruffledblog.com/industrial-railroad-museum-wedding

From the event designers, Ivory + Beau: Emily & Robert were probably one of the coolest couples we have ever worked with. This couple from New York City design movie props for a living. The week of their wedding the groom was even contacted by the company doing the Ben Affleck movie that was being filmed in Savannah. He of course had to turn it down explaining that while it was ironic the movie was being filmed at his wedding venue where he was getting married that week…

Ethereal Atlanta Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Poring through some gorgeous images on film is a great way to fill our day, and this styled shoot from Unique2Chic Photography, Honeybee Events, and Gold and Bloom does just the trick. An utterly romantic wedding gown from BHLDN’s spring 2016 line set the tone for the day, which was filled to the brim with floral decor in shades of red and white and one of the must stunning Southern venues we’ve ever seen.

ethereal Atlanta wedding inspiration - photo by Unique2Chic Photography http://ruffledblog.com/ethereal-atlanta-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer and photographer, Honeybee Events and Unique2Chic Photography: Today, we’re taking you to The Swan House in Atlanta, Georgia, with natural wedding inspiration, organic details and a flowy wedding gown. It was a typical spring afternoon in Atlanta, and we arrived at the swan house just as a storm was rolling in. It rained for about 10 minutes, and then there was a beautiful sunset over the marsh. The Swan house is a beautiful location for Atlanta wedding photos including the driveway in front of the mansion, front gate vintage cars, and more. BHLDN let us use one of their spring 2016 wedding dresses and it basically set the tone for the shoot.

Savannah Wedding with a Korean Twist

Romantic Weddings

The Happy Bloom

Total elegance was the order for the day of Amanda and Tyler’s wedding. The Happy Bloom, Design Studio South, and August Floral & Event Design collaborated to make their celebration an event to remember, complete with nods to the bride’s heritage and a refreshing color palette of soft mauve and dusty blue.

Savannah wedding with a Korean twist - photo by The Happy Bloom http://ruffledblog.com/savannah-wedding-with-a-korean-twist

From the photographer, The Happy Bloom: Amanda and Tyler met via Tyler’s sister. They had been around each other for a while and suddenly friendship turned into romance. The two love their puppies so much. So Tyler decided to incorporate the pups into a sweet and intimate proposal. Tyler was on the ground one day petting one of their pups as Amanda entered the room. Amanda thought nothing of it, just Tyler playing with the dogs. She approached the two of them to give the pup a rub as well and suddenly she realized. Yes, Tyler was on the ground giving belly rubs. But in the other hand was a ring. The two embraced and celebrated a sweet and intimate engagement right there in their home.

Handcrafted Sparkle Wedding in Savannah

DIY Weddings

We absolutely love seeing weddings where there’s so much collaboration between the bride, stylist, and floral designer — and this is just one of those weddings. Daniela and Pedro worked together carrying out endless DIY projects, Ivory & Beau coordinated everything to perfection, and the floral arrangements from Urban Poppy are totally enviable! Thank you Izzy Hudgins Photography for capturing this wedding day so beautifully.

handcrafted sparkle wedding in Savannah - photo by Izzy Hudgins Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-sparkle-wedding-in-savannah

From the bride, Daniela: We wanted our guests and everyone that looks at our wedding photos to think it was a styled photo shoot. We wanted it to feel elegant but not over the top, with fun, whimsical and vintage retro details. Every detail and the location of every accessory was carefully thought of. I envisioned a fairy tale wedding, and the Savannah scenery was the perfect spot for it and the landscapes lent themselves for that; with just the right amount of sparkle, greenery, florals and retro vintage details that reminded me of my grandmothers house as I was growing up.

We used a lot of pastel colors. Specially blush or light pink with ivory and golds. we made and printed at home the Burlap Save the Dates. Designed the wedding invitations and had them printed professionally. We designed and made the groomsmen wood boutonnieres (laser cut by Eric from Creative-laser in Savannah). The groom made the lit up DJ booth and the linen-less wood cocktail tables, and the large Marquee letters in the cake display. Made ribbon wands, vintage napkin holders and signage for ceremony; We had the crochet overlays for the cocktail hour tables custom made. We made the hanging light orbs in reception, photo booth backdrop, all selfie station and welcome table signage, guestbook, engagement photo display on a re-purposed fireplace mantel. All hand lettered signs in ceremony, seating chart, meal cards, table name signage. We refinished and re purposed all crates and wooden spools used in the cake display. The groom and I had 13 months to collect all accessories used through out, vases, bottles, vintage pieces, candle holders, the cake and dessert stands.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice is to not stress or overthink every detail. Have wedding coordinators or planners at least for the Day Of. At the end it will all turn out just fine. Also take a moment for yourself. The whole process can become pretty stressful at one point. Try not to let it get to you. The day of or the day before (if you have time), take a break relax on a spa day or something. I wish I had done it. I really needed it and did not have time for it. The day of the wedding take a moment to sit back, take a deep breath and enjoy the moment as the wedding goes by in a blink of an eye.

Cool Toned Autumn Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Odalys Mendez

Chances are, when you think of a fall wedding you already have a certain vision in your head. Today’s wedding turns all your preconceived notions of a fall wedding upside down, using a cool color palette instead of warm tones to create a look that’s utterly fresh and inspired. Odalys Mendez, Chancey Charm, and Stylish Stems all did absolutely beautiful work here!

cool toned autumn wedding - photo by Odalys Mendez Photography http://ruffledblog.com/cool-toned-autumn-wedding

From Sarah of Chancey Charm: Lauren Smith and Melvin Chu were the sweetest couple. The Bride, having an interior design background, really thought through every detail with us and was up for the challenge of gathering and perfecting the details with some incredibly creative friends. Ultimately, Beth Claterbaugh of Stylish Stems was able to perfectly bring her dream and Sarah Chancey’s inspiration sketches to life with a romantic backdrop for the ceremony and garlands gracing the long dinner tables at the reception.

The bride and groom really wanted to incorporate a nod to their home, San Fransisco, which was accomplished with a riverside reception under string lights by Goodwin Events and a muted blue color palette. It was a night of food, joy, dancing, and laughter. Truly an escape from reality for guests who enjoyed riverside chats and drinks in the sunset.

Blue Ridge Mountain Anniversary Session

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Tulle & Grace

Today’s shoot from Tulle & Grace takes a simple formula — a darling couple in love, an eye-catching gown, and show-stopping scenery — and makes it absolutely shine. It’s an absolutely perfect anniversary shoot for fall, and we have no doubt it will inspire all you autumn brides out there planning your big day now. Of course, we have to mention the flowers from Forage & Fleur, because that wild bouquet is truly the stuff of dreams.

From the photographer, Whitney of Tulle & Grace: Inspired by the colors of fall, we helped our lovely couple celebrate their anniversary among the gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountains. Brass Town Bald is the highest point in Georgia and the views from the top are some of the most stunning around!

Chic Atlanta Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

W&E Photographie

I’ve got to be honest, it was nearly impossible narrowing down images for this wedding post. W&E Photographie and Amy Osaba are a deeply talented team, and Camilla and Luke’s wedding day was their time to shine. Piedmont Driving Club was a primo venue choice, and brilliantly showcased the elegant sophistication of the day.

Chic Atlanta Wedding - photo by w&e photographie http://ruffledblog.com/chic-wedding-at-an-atlanta-driving-club

From the bride, Camilla: Originally we wanted to have an outdoor wedding. I wanted it to feel ethereal and woodland, but once the forecast called for 95 degrees and rain, we figured it might not be so “ethereal” out there. We decided on Thursday to move it inside and I must say, it was lovely. Piedmont Driving Club and Amy Osaba worked beautifully together bringing the whole look inside. I wanted the space to be classic, full of greenery and florals, and as comfortable as possible. We tried to focus on the ceremony because we knew a party with my friends and family would be so fun no matter how much work we put into it.

It was intimate, dreamy, and FUN. I knew I wanted mostly neutrals, greenery, and light colors, but I was pretty adamant about having the dark pops of red and purple in the flowers. They ended up looking so beautiful against the navy dresses and in the setting!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I was in my final year of graduate school while attempting to plan my wedding. This allowed/required me to take people up when they offered to help. When anyone offered to do something, I took them up on it. This ended up being a huge blessing and something that made our lives a lot easier! We got to plan our wedding with our moms, sisters, brothers, and friends. Basically, let people help you! It makes it oh so much more fun than to take it all on yourself and everyone can enjoy the day because they had a hand it making it come together. Word of warning to everyone else, don’t offer to help if you don’t mean it, because I will say yes.

Wedding Music:
I had a good friend of mine from high school playing for the ceremony, which was very special. My processional was “Be Thou My Vision” and let me tell you, it was a tear jerker. Just look at Luke’s face. During the ceremony we sang “Jesus, What a Savior!” This was one of my favorite parts. Luke and I faced out and sang with everyone in the room, praising Jesus! Our recessional was “This Girl” by Nickel Creek. Our first dance was to “Drive All Night” by Glen Hansard, the first song we ever danced to (and my vinyl copy got warped in this dang Atlanta heat and I’m a little distraught).

Bridesmaids decked out in lace frocks, a wedding cake with berry toned accents, an exquisite mimosa bar — these are just a few of the things that made us fall in love with the most recent Big Fake Wedding event in Atlanta. Every little detail was inspired by a vintage London vibe, making everything that much sweeter. Let’s jump on in!

Birth of Venus Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Breathtaking. That has to be the most accurate description for today’s styled shoot, from Morning Light by Michelle Landreau, Pretty Swell Parties, and Flowers by Yona, a team that put together one positively jaw-dropping scene inspired by Botticelli’s famous painting, Birth of Venus. Every one of our favorite colors for a romantic wedding comes to play here, from blush pink to deep burgundy to the finest of gold!

Birth of Venus wedding inspiration - photo by Morning Light by Michelle Landreau http://ruffledblog.com/birth-of-venus-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Pretty Swell Parties:
Inspired by the Italian renaissance painting, The Birth of Venus by Botticelli, we aimed to capture the essence of Venus, the goddess of beauty and love. In the painting, Venus is depicted as fresh-faced with flowing red locks. We drew on this idea of natural beauty to create a look for our bride that is airy and light with an ethereal dress and subtle makeup.

Choosing a location for this shoot was easy. Dunaway Gardens offers abundent woods that feel almost untouched against more manicured areas that exude effortless opulence. We chose to juxtapose the venue’s natural beauty with ornate details that call back to the luxury of the Italian renaissance. We opted for linens full of texture and grandeur that took their cue from the flowing garments of Venus’ companions; and chose flowers, including lush Italian Ranunculus, Red Charm Peonies, Caramel Antike Garden Roses and Juliette Garden Roses, in rich tones that evoke love and luxury.

Using traditional Italian elements was also very important. We incorporated olive branches into the florals and design of the cake and layered Italian cheeses with figs and paired them with Italian wine to tie everything together with the origins of the painting.

Romantic Atlanta Wedding at Summerour

Romantic Weddings

Summerour is truly one of the most beautiful venues in Atlanta — just wait until you see this wedding from Jason Hales Photography and you’ll agree too. Ansley and George wanted to bring the garden aesthetic indoors, and thanks to the never-ending talents of Juli Vaughn Designs the couple was able to bask in the glory of an event executed to perfection!

From the bride, Ansley: From the decor, to the food, to the band – our Atlanta wedding was a perfect representation of George & I and the people and things we love most. I wanted the overall feel of the wedding to be what I like to call “boho traditional.” It was important to G & I to get married in a church, so we set the ceremony at our church – Peachtree Road United Methodist Church in Buckhead. And the moment I saw Summerour Studio, I was in love and knew we could bring the bohemian elements I wanted to include into our reception. I loved the courtyard with vines growing up the brick walls and that inside the venue was a blank space that we could make our own. Juli Vaughn truly brought the feel of the courtyard into the reception space and perfectly captured the whimsical/romantic/bohemian style by hanging vines from the steel rafters, string lights, Edison bulbs and a ton of gold and silver Mercury glass.

My friend created menus and escort cards with hand-drawn floral wreaths that also included vines that were a consistent theme of the reception. We used soft colors of blush, sage and gold and the floral centerpieces softened the industrial space to give it the romantic feeling I wanted. Amid the boho and romantic feel of the reception, I worked in traditional elements with my full lace, trumpet-style gown. I also paid homage to the traditional “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” by wearing a garter made by my aunt from tatting lace hand-crafted by my great-grandmother, my grandmother’s diamond bracelet and my mother’s sapphire ring. The menu covered all of our Southern favorites, and each station represented one of our favorite meals from throughout our relationship. The fried chicken and mac & cheese station (that was based off the meal we had the night we got engaged) was a guest favorite! And the bite-sized southern desserts were a fitting reflection of the out of control sweet tooth George and I both have. After dinner, dancing commenced and the dance floor was packed for three straight hours.

After so many months of planning for this day, and having so many of our friends and family come to celebrate with us, we couldn’t bear the thought of the night ending, so we continued the celebration at the Artmore Hotel with more champagne and late night eats from the Waffle House food truck! After a sparkler exit, as G & I drove away in a ’56 Bentley, we knew it was the best night of our lives and the months and months of planning had come together just as we had pictured. The sweetest moment of the day was our first look. George’s reaction was more than I could have imagined – so many tears! We had a lot of laughs about our first dance as husband and wife that we had practiced so many times, but ended up completely improvising. And of course, a favorite memory was having all of our loved ones in one (beautifully decorated) room to celebrate such an important day with us.

5 DIY Summer Wedding Trends to Love

Wedding Design

You might want to set some time aside, because we’ve got a doozy of a shoot for you all today! It includes not one, not two, but FIVE different looks to fall in love with. French Knot Studios and Izzy Hudgins Photography put together a variety of wedding scenes, each with its own theme, invitation suite from Wedding Paper Divas, and wedding cake. Let’s jump on in!

DIY Summer - photo by Izzy Hudgins http://ruffledblog.com/inspiring-summer-wedding-looks

Look #1, Nature Romance: With the lacey laser cut pattern of these invites, the doily and spray paint trick was easily inspired. The archway of foraged branches and paper flowers brings the outdoors in. With classic bouquets of garden roses and dusty miller, the soft taupe of the bridesmaid dress is a lovely compliment. We also added a mother of the bride in steely blue with her own little posey of flowers. Sugar flowers adorn a classic white tiered cake.

Trend we love: romantic greenery, leafy swags and drippy vines. See DIY Paper Wisteria Backdrop to complete the look.

Look #2, Fresh Citrus: The invites modern take on floral print is great for spring or summer. We envisioned the whole affair to be outdoors and casual, so the kraft paper envelopes sets the tone. Our bride is decked in a pale aqua and gold brocade cocktail dress with a gauzy ball skirt over it. This gives her the option to lose the bulky skirt for the reception and even (dare I say it) wear the sweet aqua number again! We always love hair flowers and a wild, colorful bouquet. The rolling cooler adds to the easy, breezy feeling of this wedding inspiration. Signature cocktail: Petal Pusher. Mix equal parts french lemonade with rosé wine (we love Cote de Roses for the rose shaped bottle), then add a splash of Elderflower Cordial. Serve cold. Pastry chef, Natasha Gaskill of A Squad Bakeshop took the cutest pattern of fox faces and printed it on wafer paper using edible ink. She then topped it with a sugar peony.

Trend we love: citrus color palettes, floral and tribal patterns. See DIY Paper Punch Backdrop to complete the look.

Look #3, Watercolor Whimsy: Our bride’s blue and turquoise hair goes perfectly with the frilly look. Snow on the Mountain, parrot tulips, and luxe Free Spirit roses adorn the chairs and bouquet. We love bold make up at weddings, and grooms don’t need a suit to look great while still staying comfortable. Laser cut chair signs were treated with an ombré paint technique.

Trend we love: painterly, watercolor, oil painting inspired decor. See DIY Marbled Placemats to complete the look.

Look #4, Literary Glam : This is another take on a classic/traditional wedding with a deeper color palette for added drama, like our favorite romance novels. The drape of sheer navy fabric in the branches creates a soft backdrop for a ceremony or photobooth. Subtle book details pop up in the page lined envelopes and “book of love” photo booth props. The reception table could continue the theme with a runner of pages from a favorite love story. The navy bridesmaid dress and marsala accents in the bouquets make a beautiful palette for fall or winter weddings, or black tie evening affairs at anytime of year. Our brides pale fawn hued gown needs little accessory besides a gold birdcage veil and bold lip. The cake is wrapped with a cloisonné print.

Trend we love: dark hues and moody tones, Art Deco glam and metallics. See DIY Tassel Backdrop to complete the look.

wrapped wedding cake - photo by Izzy Hudgins http://ruffledblog.com/inspiring-summer-wedding-looks

Look #5, Modern Tropics: Our final look is lush, bold, and sleek. The striped gown is traditional in shape, but modern in pattern. For the backdrop, we simply hung a variety of tropical foliage from colorful embroidery floss. More leaves appear in our bouquet with parrot tulips, a bird of paradise, and exotic proteas. We wanted a bridesmaid in vivid pattern, though this can be tricky to pull off if you have a fleet of bridesmaids it make a great statement if you have only 1-3 gals. We wanted the reception table and chairs to disappear from our tropical palette, so naturally, ghost was the way to go. Miniature works of art by Beth Allen Art are great for escort or place cards.

Trend we love: tropical, fruits, bold flowers and leaves. See DIY Pipe Planter Favors to complete the look.

Georgia Summer Southern Wedding Inspiration

Blue Label, Wedding Design

Any time I get to see a bit of rose gold, I immediately fall in love. Today’s shoot takes classic southern wedding inspiration and gives it a bit of a whimsical approach, taking on cool spring colors and lots of lush floral design. The team of Alyssa Alig Photography, Brie Owens Events, and Bud and Bloom did some great work here!

Georgia summer southern wedding inspiration - photo by Alyssa Alig Photography http://ruffledblog.com/georgia-summer-southern-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Alyssa Alig: The estate is the embodiment of Southern class and charm. This shoot features rich golds and blush tones. The rings were created with rose gold, the flowers were composed of garden roses, ranunculus, and seeded eucalyptus. We were inspired by both classic elements and a touch of whimsy. The two marry well with the stunning setting in the fields of the Georgia landscape.

Our stylist was insistent on real love and the beauty of capturing the bride and groom in a genuine light. We adore the newly wedded romance they brought to the shoot, which added to the rich heritage of the South. “I love you without knowing how, or when, or from where, / I love you simply, without problems or pride: / I love you in this way because I don’t know any other way of loving.” – Pablo Neruda, 100 Love Sonnets

Surprise Wedding for the Groom in Atlanta

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Jonathan and Kaye

Few things make me happier than surprise weddings, and that’s exactly what Jennifer and Brian got thanks to their friend Callie of The Big Fake Wedding. Callie pulled from a pool of talented Atlanta vendors, including Jonathan and Kaye and Holland Daze, who brought together this last-minute surprise event the day before their official engagement party!

surprise wedding for the groom in Atlanta - photo by Jonathan and Kaye http://ruffledblog.com/surprise-wedding-for-the-groom-in-atlanta

From Callie of The Big Fake Wedding: My friend Jennifer was planning a wedding in September, but they found out that Brian was being transferred to Tokyo in June, so they started planning to secretly head to the courthouse on May 8. At a dinner in April, Jennifer was telling me about her plans and saying how she was so sad to miss the experience of her dad walking her down the aisle. She wanted Brian to have that moment of seeing her in a dress, but they knew there wasn’t time to make that possible.

I reached out to some of my favorite wedding vendors, and we started planning an amazing surprise wedding for the two of them. Jennifer knew it was happening, but she didn’t know any of the details. Brian just thought that he was going to meet her at the courthouse, but instead his dad dropped him off at the wedding location (a local park where the florist so graciously donated her yard and front porch for the celebration), and his mom was there waiting on him with a boutonniere, in front of a sign that read “Welcome to the wedding of Jennifer and Brian.” She handed him a letter from Jennifer that let him know that they would be able to experience a wedding ceremony after all, and then his parents walked him down the aisle where their family and best friends (who had come in from different parts of the country!) were waiting.

We had a musician who played their song as Jennifer walked down the aisle, and after the ceremony, the musician played as they had their first dance and dances with their parents. They then enjoyed dinner, cake and toasts on the front porch, and they ended with a coffee truck and lantern release. The next day was their “engagement party” and they got to let everyone in on their little secret: they were married!!

Southern Wedding with a Gold Sequin Gown

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Emily Chidester

As soon as I hear the description “intimate Old Hollywood Glamour,” I’m all in. Emily Chidester and The Bloom Closet were tasked with bringing Meaghan and Jimmie’s vision to life — a vision that included a gold sequin wedding dress, a bold tie for the groom, and lots of romantic ideas for the reception. Obsessed.

southern wedding with a gold sequin gown - photo by Emily Chidester http://ruffledblog.com/southern-wedding-with-a-gold-sequin-gown

From the bride, Meaghan: We decided to go for old Hollywood glamour on a very intimate scale. We both have very unique style so we wanted to make sure it reflected who we were in all of the details. Our color scheme was black, white, and gold with touches of a deep red velvet and soft peachy pink. We made all of the wine bottle centerpieces. My parents painted and created the buffet to display all of the vintage tea cups we used for our favors; my dad made tons of the black cake stands.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Find a style that describes the two of you as a couple and have fun with it. Get inspiration from other peoples’ weddings, but don’t worry if what you want is a little different… make it personal. Bottom line… we loved our wedding because it was so US!

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Turning Page,” Sleeping at Last
Recessional: “When I’m With You,” Ben Rector
First Dance: “Until You,” Dave Barnes
Father/Daughter Dance: “I Will Always Love You,” Dolly Parton (& I surprised my dad with a special recording of me singing You Are My Sunshine)
Mother/Son Dance: “The Way You Look Tonight,” Tony Bennett

From the photographer, Emily Chidester: As photographers, we’re all biased that our couples are the best… but this couple truly is. I shot Meaghan & Jimmie’s end of February wedding at the Enterprise Mill down in Augusta, Georgia, having no idea what to expect. What I walked into was a day full of laughter, love, and beautiful moments. Meaghan and Jimmie are two of the most creative people I’ve met in a long time. He’s a graphic designer and she’s a fellow photographer, and you felt every inch of that creativity on their wedding day, despite the fact that they were working with a tight budget (where they collected vintage vases that they spray painted a matte gold, had a coffee bar and dessert reception to save money, poured into vintage tea cups, and a popcorn maker (!) just for fun). The first amazing thing about this wedding was Meaghan’s Etsy dress that she bought for under $1000 – the gold sequin bust with a flowy tulle bottom literally took my breath away. My favorite thing about their day was all the surprises woven into the ceremony and reception. Both Meaghan and Jimmie are worship leaders and knew they wanted to incorporate music into their wedding day – beginning with Meaghan’s songs for Jimmie she had made into a vinyl for his wedding gift, to a surprise song Jimmie wrote and performed for Meaghan following their vows, to a surprise duet they sang for all their friends and family together (JOHNNYSWIM’s “Take the World”), and finally ending with Meaghan’s tribute to her dad during their father-daughter dance of a recording of their song, sung by her. Everything about their day was wonderful, special, and totally one of a kind. Just like the two of them.

Party City Wedding in Atlanta

Wedding Design

Photos by:

The Big Fake Wedding recently put together another faux wedding in Atlanta — their home market — making it their tenth event in the Georgia city. Time truly flies, doesn’t it? This time around, the inspiration was “Party City” — imagine lots of celebration, metallic silver, and bright yellow to reflect daffodils, the traditional flower for tenth anniversaries.

Moody Earth Tones Wedding Inspiration in Savannah

Wedding Design

Photos by:

One of our favorite elements of The Big Fake Wedding is seeing how different cities and vendors are able to interpret the same theme, so we were thrilled to see the results of Savannah, GA‘s take on the Smoke and Mirrors inspiration board. Using equal parts moodiness and romanticism, the styled tables, cascading floral arrangements, and glittery bridal attire are sure to inspire!

Leaves of Grass Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass was always a source of inspiration for me, so I’m extra excited to bring you all today’s styled shoot from Jason Hales Photography, Bowman & Clark, and Alabaster & Ivory Events. Inspired by the wordsmith’s book of poetry, it brings together classic beauty and organic garden wedding ideas for a shoot that’s making us fall in love with the written word all over again.

elegant bridal hair - photo by Jason Hales Photography http://ruffledblog.com/leaves-of-grass-wedding-inspiration

From Allie Webber, Co-Owner of Bowman & Clark: We loved getting to design for this unique mixture of soft, garden inspired florals and more structured 19th century details. The arbor structure was covered in greenery and potted and hanging plants created a garden oasis. Wild arrangements, soft fabrics and pillows helped bring in the boho vibe. While the dark 19th century furniture and candlesticks brought depth and warmth into the space. The bride looked effortless in a gorgeous Winifred Bean gown, with her hair pulled back easily, and her makeup creating a natural glowing complexion. We loved the contrasting details and natural feel of this shoot and hope that it inspires a beautiful garden, boho, or 19th Century design.

Fun and Colorful Wedding in Savannah

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

The Schultzes

Of all the things we love, weddings that are as much of a party as they are a celebration of love is right up at the top of the list. The Schultzes, Willow Event Design, and Joey McDermott put together some of their best work for Lindy and Jason’s wedding, which included incredible bursts of color and confetti at every turn for one heck of a beautiful day!

whimsical and colorful wedding in Savannah - photo by The Schultzes http://ruffledblog.com/whimsical-and-colorful-wedding-in-savannah

From the bride, Lindy: Creating from my heart, and celebrating love is at the heart of my core and what I love about being an artist and designer. Our wedding was a rare opportunity for me to bring our love to life and to give Jason, along with our friends and family, the gift of an experience to celebrate that love. We also wanted to invite our friends and family into our world here in Savannah and share with them pieces of the life we’ve built together. We wanted to celebrate our love, and the love of our family and friends. I always said – if there was a world created from our love, our wedding day would be a glimpse into what that world would look like – and that’s what we based every single decision on. We wanted the day to be fun and lighthearted.

Wedding bouquet: My bouquet included pink, white, and yellow ranunculus, hot pink and white anemones, billy balls, fuchsia peonies, blue delphenium, white feverfew, white scabiosa, and dark purple lisianthus.

We aren’t afraid of color and knew that it would play a big part in the look of our wedding. We chose white and grey as our core colors, with fuchsia, yellow, coral, kelly green, bright blue, and purple as our accent colors. We also mixed in silver and gold accents. We kept the décor simple for the ceremony, letting the beauty of Savannah shine. We set up the chairs to create a close knit semi-circle, and adorned the back rows with fabric streamers. We had a welcome table set up so guests could congregate, get a cool glass of water when they arrived, and be welcomed by us through a welcome sign/message. We also had large white balloons with fabric streamers around the square.

The confetti girls lined the aisle with multi-colored confetti for me to walk down and our guests showered us with confetti as we walked back down the aisle as husband and wife. They wore adorable, custom-designed dresses from Vesper Clothier who was wonderful to work with. After that, guests had two “to-go” drinks to choose from to have in hand as they walked to Ships of the Sea for the reception (thanks to Savannah’s brilliant open container law!). We also had pedi-cabs waiting for guests after the ceremony so they could get a ride from the square to Ships of the Sea. We wanted to continue with our colorful, fun and whimsical reception world full of love with the and this is really where it came to life.

The reception featured long, family style tables with a mix of glass, milk glass, and mason jars holding a mix of bright, colorful, and whimsical flowers. Gracing the tables, along with the mix of flowers, were peaches and bunches of cotton – a nod to our love of the South – along with some paper flowers. Each table had a grey and white table runner – a mix of stripes and polka dots – so each table was a little different. Each guest had their name card waiting for them with a little bundle of love, including a thank you note and the menu for the evening.

The biggest labor of love was the paper flower installation that hung over the dance floor. This was a creation straight from my heart and I couldn’t have made it happen without the help of Jason, my father, my mother, sister and a group of loving friends who help me create the 200 flowers that hung from it. I had a vision for this and I can’t thank everyone enough for helping it come to life. We wanted an explosion of color to hang above us as we celebrated the night away and it was magical!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Your wedding day is just that – yours. The two of you. We knew early on that we had a unique vision to celebrate our love and that was what guided each decision we made. We infused our story, personalities, and things we love in every detail of our day. We truly wanted our wedding day to be a glimpse into our love, the life we’ve built together, and the life we want to lead as a married couple. Our best piece of advice beyond that would be to enjoy and savor your engagement, the week leading up to the big day, and your wedding day as much as possible. Ask for help. In some cases, just because you can do it all doesn’t mean you should. We were truly blown away by the generosity of our friends and family. Having their help, incorporating their talents, and having them be such an integral part of making our wedding day happen made it that much more special to us. So many details are woven with family traditions and would not have been possible with the help of our family and friends. We would also advise couples to carefully select the partners and vendors you work with. You are placing so much trust in them to help pull off a day that means so much to you. Communication is key and trusting them to do their part is a huge leap of faith. Listen to your gut, and don’t be convinced you “need” this or that to make your day complete – the world of wedding planning can be extremely overwhelming and remembering that this day is about your marriage and starting your life together as husband and wife is key. As fun and beautiful as all the pretty little details are, there is nothing more important than the fact that the day is the beginning of your marriage.

Wedding Elegance at Bisham Manor

Wedding Design

There’s just no place more romantic than estate grounds for a wedding, don’t you think? The incredible team behind today’s shoot, including J.Ashley Photography, Southern Flair Events, Evermore Weddings and Events, and Virtu Floral Design, sure think so, and we have to agree. The show-stopper of this styled shoot has to be the floral and greenery table runner, which makes the perfect statement piece for a garden inspired wedding no matter the location.

wedding elegance at Bisham Manor - photo by J.Ashley Photography http://ruffledblog.com/wedding-elegance-at-bisham-manor

From the photographer, J.Ashley Photography: This styled shoot was inspired by the romance and timeless elegance of the South. This was a collaborative effort of some of the most talented vendors in Atlanta to design and create an ultra romantic experience that would truly showcase southern sophistication. We chose a color palette of gold and marsala with hints of blush and light pink to give contrast and variation to the overall color scheme.

A custom made farm table nestled in a grove of picturesque Oak trees was the focal point of the shoot. A lush garland comprised of varying types of eucalyptus, red oak, Tree ivy, olive and camellia graced the center of the table and flowed onto the ground. This foliage was combined with a mix of both black and peach dahlias, a variety of gorgeous open garden roses, along with seasonal pink snowberry, burgundy snapdragons and a combination of fresh plums, pears and other seasonal fruits were placed among the table to inject texture as well as additional color.

Vintage brass candelabras were mixed with gold rimmed stemware, flatware and china for a stately and elegant effect along with hand-painted round gold menus at the center of every place setting. The centerpiece of this opulent estate table was a magnificent 5 tiered cake with a ruffled rose pattern of hand-crafted gumpaste flowers highlighted with edible gold details. The signature drink featured was a Thyme Infused Blackberry Martini that added the perfect pop of color on the tables. Crossback vineyard chairs were adorned with “Mr. & Mrs.” hand-painted vintage mirrors to add in a reflective element. The bride wore a gorgeous Elizabeth Fillmore “Thalia” dress with a modern face veil from Fabulous Frocks of Atlanta. We accented the dress with natural eye makeup and a marsala lip to complement her flowers. She carried a beautiful bouquet of a softer cream and peach palette, accented with deep berry tones and comprised of a mix of peach amaryllis, oversized dahlias and blush peach roses, accented with South African blushing bride protea, scabiosa, nigella, pink snowberry, safari sunset leucadendron and bits of red oak, seeded eucalyptus and tree ivy.

Whimsical Bohemian Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Where oh where to begin with this styled shoot from Sleepy Fox Photography and Chelsea & The City? It’s got a two-piece wedding dress, bohemian-meets-botanical styling, and a couple of darling llamas you could only find at Georgia’s The Inn at Serenbe. We absolutely love the use of a Christmas tree ornament as the cake topper for a whimsical touch!

From the event designer, Chelsea & The City: We drew inspiration for this bohemian styled shoot from the unconventional Daughters of Simone design (which called to mind a unique bride who wants something different for her big day) and from the two wistful llamas that made a home within Serenbe Farms. With whimsical details (like the fun Anthropologie cake topper) and a sense of adventure, we set out to create a wonderful world of sparkle, lace and a gorgeous secluded garden reception. The color palette we used was very neutral and allowed all of the interesting details to really shine forth amidst the romantic setting.
