Bluemont Vineyard Wedding

I can’t think of a better way to start this Wednesday than with the always gorgeous photos by Ash Imagery. Gloria and Ryan are the epitome of effortless chic. Proof of the fact that their wedding day was entirely handmade, and yes, that includes their luscious floral arrangements. Many more images to gush over right here.

From Gloria, the bride: We knew from the start that we wanted to have the wedding in a Virginia vineyard, since we have close ties to the state and love the relaxed environment of a vineyard. Bluemont was the perfect setting! After experiencing the amazing view there we just set out to create a wedding that would complement the natural beauty of the location. We wanted simple, homemade, and relaxed style.

For inspiration, I looked for colors that would naturally occur in early Virginia autumn. Since we also wanted that relaxed feel, we didn’t restrict the theme or color scheme too much. In the end, we used a color palette of burgundy, rose, peach, and champagne as a reference point.

Many of the flowers came from local farms and were seasonal – dahlias, zinnias, and amaranthus, for example. All of the flower displays were made through community effort in my mom’s kitchen, and the bouquets were hand-tied. My wedding cake was baked, assembled, and decorated by my bridesmaids. We did our music mix ourselves (with the help of one of our groomsmen) and played it on a laptop hooked up to speakers. We also made our invitations and place cards, which doubled as favors, by hand. Overall, everything was a group effort, which we really loved because it shows how much we rely on our friends and family every day!

We took a tour of Virginia vineyards, knowing that we would love an outdoor ceremony with a reception space nearby. Bluemont Vineyard in Bluemont, VA was the one we settled on – their view from the ceremony location was unparalleled, and it didn’t hurt that their wines were delicious as well. The Stable, the reception was held in, is a converted horse stable with beautiful wooden walls and a rustic feel.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Don’t be afraid to ask for help! I wouldn’t have been able to do so many DIY things with the wedding while still staying sane without an incredible amount of help from friends and family. Ryan and I also lifted equal loads throughout the planning process – although I had a ton of ideas about what we could do, he was a great sounding board for them and helped do a lot of legwork to make it all happen.

In the end, we had a lot of fun with everyone involved in making all of the little details; the journey was just as rewarding as the actual day of the wedding.

Southern Fusion Wedding

The dapper groom, Ruben is from Mexico; Elise, the bride is a Southern Belle. Right then and there I knew their wedding was destined to be a gorgeous fusion wedding, blending Ruben’s Mexican roots and old traditions from the South. Elise wore her mother’s wedding dress, altered with a freshened up neckline. The groom and groomsmen wore black tie tuxes, and the bridesmaid wore mismatched blush pink dresses. Thank you Steven Michael for capturing their day and sharing these images with us!

Camp Engagement Session

This engagement session sent by Ozzy Garcia will make you look twice if I told you they were shot in Miami, but I won’t say anything. First Anniversary Shoot

I love the idea of a post wedding day shoot. This couple got married last April and contacted the talented Leo Patrone to take some portraits of just the two of them in full wedding attire to celebrate their first year anniversary. They couldn’t have chosen a more beautiful time of year in Washington DC to do it! The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and the scenery is so dreamy! The bride wore a drool worthy vintage wedding dress and lace veil she bought in London. Big thanks to Leo Patrone for sending this gorgeous session over.

From the bride:
About the dress: the underlay is a cotton-silk fabric that I found at MacCulloch & Wallis, a haberdashery store in London that appears just as it did in the nineteenth century. The overlay is a guipure lace that I found after many visits to London haberdashery shops. It was made in Italy and patterned after a 300-year-old Swiss lace. I made basic designs for the dress, which my dressmaker, Jana Hill-Dyble of London, carried through to the final product.

I found the beaded handbag at Church Street Antique Market in London. The veil is Victorian and handmade, and I found this at Portobello Market, also in London.

Printable Photo Station Sign

I don’t usually post this late, but we were having some technical issues earlier this morning that had to be taken care of (good news though!). This week’s wedding template is a photo station sign for guests to take photos of your wedding using vintage cameras you can buy for under 5 dollars at thrift stores. The sign says “Grab a camera and take pictures”, to welcome anyone a try. Quick note: though you may be tempted to kindly ask your guests to rewind the film when they’re done, some people may not know how a specific camera functions so encourage them to put it down when done shooting or alternately use more modern point and shoot film cameras, which can also be purchased for under $10 each at thrift stores.

Designed by Carolynn from Two Brunettes, who created the template in three different color schemes: bright yellow, spring green and lilac. The template was made in a handy 8×10 size, so all you need is a frame. Have fun!

Vintage City Chic

When Ellie from Mint, the owner of one of my favorite blogs showed me this vintage inspired invitation she designed for a vintage bride, these two photos by Richard Avedon instantly came to mind. The Art Deco elements combined with bright yellow is a perfect balance between vintage inspired and modern in my opinion. Oh and there’s more where this invitation came from. Jennie + Ryan's Old Hollywood Glamour Wedding

Vintage brides, rejoice! This 1930′s inspired wedding has everything you are looking for. Art Deco bride, check; decadent flowers, check; timeless film photographs, check. The utterly talented florist Kate from Flowerwild Designs sent me this wedding shot by film wedding photographer team from Docuvitae.

From the Bride, Jennie:

Various shades of purple, magenta, indigo and grey were the main palette colors we wanted to draw from. There is so much green and grey within the space that I felt like it really needed a pop of color. My first instinct was to go with warm, bold colors…but after discussions with Kate, the floral designer, we went with a cooler, juicier feel. Really embracing the bright blues with fuchsias and raspberry reds.
we wanted our wedding to feel like one big dinner party and wanted a venue that would be conducive to having such an event. we wanted the wedding to feel intimate, despite having a guest count of 160 and wanted it to feel cozy, as opposed to stuffy or overly formal. the venue that we picked was perfect. it’s basically a big smog check center with high ceilings and it is one open space. there is really an indoor and outdoor feel to the venue, which we thought was perfect, since we wanted everyone to feel like they were a part of the wedding, no matter whether they were seated inside or outside.
The vintagey / old hollywood feel was established first a foremost by my gown, shoes, hair etc. Then we went forward from there. All the containers for the flowers were from Flowerwild’s personal collection. Paired with the flowers, a mixture of 3 to 4 arr per table – it had a very mondern edge to a throwback look. this theme ran throughout, from the venue to the attire to the music to the decor.

Celeste + Scott’s Offbeat Wedding

I had the pleasure of discovering the talented Heather Espana who was new to me via another talented photographer Ryan, from You Look Nice Today Photography. He second shot this non traditional wedding for Heather and I love how their work complements each other. Celeste’s wedding dress was a beautiful, daring floral patterned dress that set the tone for their fun wedding!

From the bride, Celeste:

The wedding was at the house where I grew up, in Carlton, Oregon, which made for a beautiful backdrop on a summer night. The flowers were done by a longtime family friend and flower genius who had also done the flowers at my parents’ wedding 35 years ago. I loved how he combined exotic and traditional flowers. The gardenia in my hair was a nod to my grandma, who wore one on her suit when she married my grandfather in the 40′s. Sweet, fun and a little offbeat could probably sum up the wedding in general.

From the beginning, Scott and I wanted a wedding that was first and foremost a good party, so we decided to keep things simple. The ceremony short and sweet with readings from The Velveteen Rabbit, Miss Manners, Mr. Rogers (no joke!), and Rilke. We had a friend get ordained online to marry us, so it was also incredibly personal and heartfelt.

We had a ton of help with decorations and set-up from my parents, my brother, sister-in-law and her parents, my uncle and his partner, and my cousins. Definitely DIY a family affair!

As a nod to Scott’s Texan roots, we served barbeque (from Russell Street BBQ in Portland) and had pie instead of cake. The pies were from Pies for Peace, which is a non-profit that donates all proceeds from its sales to MercyCorps.

Bridal: Scott and his groomsmen wore guayaberas inspired by our trip to Nicaragua a few years ago.

Lomo Loves Engagement Photos
