New York Meets Palm Springs Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Amber Gress

As if there was ever any doubt, this wedding proves that when Amber Gress and Michelle Edgemont come together, the result is pure magic. As soon as Caitlin and Scott realized their wedding day could (and should!) be whatever they want it to be, they began looking at it as one big party with all their loved ones in tow. Sounds perfect, right? Spoiler alert: it is.

From the bride, Caitlin: It took us a little while to really hone the vision for our wedding. We spent so many hours stalking other weddings and pinning into the wee hours of the night, and there were so many fun styles and ideas we were just so overwhelmed. That’s when we realized that we didn’t need to follow something someone else did; we could do whatever we wanted. Sounds crazy, but took a couple months for us to realize that. And we knew more than anything we wanted the atmosphere to feel like a party. We thought of all the fun things we’d like to see at this fabulous party which were cool metallic elements, fun runners, cascading streamers. We wanted our guests to feel the energy and fun from the second they entered the tent, so we did that through the décor.

Bouquet recipe: Peach garden roses, peach stock, white dahlias, ferns (some spray painted gold!), light pink spray roses, hot pink carnations. They were tied with a combination of ribbons; peach watercolor, white with black polka dots and metallic gold. The bridesmaids’ bouquets were ferns (some tips spray painted gold!) with a peach watercolor ribbon.

Our theme was definitely “Party.” And our color theme/style was lush ferns and greens accented with pink and peach florals. Handwritten type accents throughout and touches of metallic gold and geometric patterns. And last but not least, confetti! The geometric table runners and table numbers were DIY [but not by us:)]. We hired the INCREDIBLY amazing and creative Michelle Edgemont who took this party idea and made it a reality.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Do you! Don’t get overwhelmed with all the photos upon photos of ideas. I’d say, start by thinking what you want it to feel like… romantic, cozy, modern, inventive, quirky…and then dream up what that means. The best part is you can’t go wrong; it’s your vision, so take some risks and have some fun with it.

Mile Away Restaurant Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Zac Wolf

If vintage flair brings a smile to your face (like it does ours), then you’re in for a real treat. Zac Wolf and The Garden Party are here to share an intimate New Hampshire wedding teeming with just enough quirk and romance to make us fall completely in love. How awesome are the bridesmaids’ fascinators, by the way?

From the bride, Carrie: We really wanted our wedding to be an intimate affair with our closest friends and family. Most of our guests were spread throughout the country, so knowing they were all traveling great distances to be with us, we wanted to create a cozy atmosphere. We also wanted to add a little whimsy and fun to the day, which is why we decided on a 1920’s theme. We have always felt lucky to have a romantic love story, reminiscent of great literary works, and we wanted to carry that through to our wedding day. We encouraged all of our guests to dress to match the theme and have fun with it. We were blown away by how many people really embraced our vision and knew that it was “US.”

We both grew up in New England, so finding a venue that represented that, and felt familiar and warm to both of us was very important. We decided on The Mile Away Restaurant because of the beautiful gardens, the natural elements of the property and the warmth we felt from the staff. Needless to say, the gardens fit in perfectly with our 1920’s/Gatsby garden party idea. We originally wanted our colors to be romantic pinks and blues, but somewhere along the planning process we began to incorporate other soft pastel colors with contrasts of black, silver and gold. We really just gravitated toward what stood out to us.

Because we were focused on an intimate and welcoming party, all of the decisions we made had this idea in mind. Our best men actually officiated the ceremony. We had joked for years that they would perform the ceremony at our wedding because they had been there with us from the beginning. It made the day even more meaningful and special having the people closest to you make it official. We also incorporated a hand-fasting ceremony to symbolize the binding of our souls and lives for eternity. We asked our mothers to perform this binding of our hands to bring our families together. We DIYed our mirror seating charts by spray painting them gold and hand writing everyone’s names. We also spray painted a chalk board and I wrote out and designed a “program.” Brian hand sewed his bow tie and pocket square. We created a guest book from an old type-writer, to bring you back in time. We shopped around for inexpensive décor pieces that wouldn’t break the bank, but also evoked a timeless palette.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I think the most important piece of advice we can offer to couples that are going through the planning process is to stay true to your vision as a couple. It really is a representation of the two of you and you should be happy with the outcome. We really tried to stick to this while we were going through the process. And, on our wedding day, the best feeling was everyone’s comments about how they could see us individually and as a couple throughout the wedding.

Austin Styled Bridal Session

Wedding Design

What’s better than a little bridal inspiration with some bohemian flair? We were beyond thrilled to see this lovely styled shoot land in our inbox, especially given its all-star team of vendors — including Lindsey Stump Photography, Southern Social Events, The Quiet Rabbit, and Stems, just to name a few. This is one tablescape we’ll absolutely love for ages!

From the photographer, Lindsey Stump: Our tablescape design was inspired by the first colorful blooms of spring, that feeling of nostalgia for being barefoot amongst the wildflowers. With a touch of bohemian whimsy, we incorporated lots of colorful statement pieces from Anthropologie and kept the floral centerpiece wild and organic.

The maidenhair ferns planted in concrete pots add the perfect touch of neutral amongst the otherwise playful setup. Our chandelier installation mixes a monochromatic range of patterns and solids to tie in that carefree, color-centric vibe. Overall, the design focused less on tradition, playing more on the idea of a well-traveled woman with a love for found objects and color.

Tuckahoe Plantation Wedding

Rustic Weddings

To me, one of the best parts of spring is seeing brides introduce aqua into their color palettes. Has there ever been a happier color? Shelley and Bryan sought a joyful wedding at Richmond’s Tuckahoe Plantation, where they brought along Emily March Photography and Your Day, Your Way Weddings and Events to make their wedding day everything they’d dreamed of and so much more.

Tuckahoe Plantation wedding - photo by Emily March Photography http://ruffledblog.com/tuckahoe-plantation-wedding

From the bride, Shelley: Since Bryan and I had dated mostly long distance, I wanted our guests to know us better as a couple after attending our wedding and to feel at home. We wanted the whole day to be full of joy! More than anything we wanted our wedding and our marriage to reflect the Gospel – the unrelenting love our Heavenly Father has for his underserving people. We wanted our marriage to be rooted in the love of Christ and that to be made known on our wedding day. Our venue really set the theme for our wedding. Tuckahoe Plantation is the boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson. I am a direct descendant of good ol’ TJ so we knew it would be the perfect fit! It is just outside of our hometown of Richmond. The plantation is secluded, with a gorgeous plantation house and beautiful gardens.

The bridesmaids wore a mint/teal dress and the flowers were peach and pink! And wherever I could include a gold accent, I did! I love a little bit of glitter! My father-in-law built us the chalkboard where we listed the seating arrangements for the reception (my husband wrote all the names on the chalkboard!) and the shelves that included pictures from our childhood. We made our favors which were bookmarks with our favorite books. I also made our wooden table numbers–saw them on etsy and thought, ‘I could do that!’

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Soak it all in! I absolutely loved the whole wedding week! It was such a joyous celebration. I keep saying to my husband now, I just want to do it all over again – so simply enjoy it! I knew that some things were going to go wrong, but that nothing was going to take away front the overall JOY of the day. Every moment was so special and I did not want to leave at the end of the night! Oh and dance!! It is so easy to get caught up talking to guests (which is also important) but don’t forget to dance! I can’t help, but smile whenever I think of the dancing at our reception.

From the photographer, Emily March Photography: When I first met Shelley, we spent a solid two hours getting to know each other and talking about how excited she was to be Bryan’s wife. I left absolutely giddy to photograph her wedding and knowing that by the big day, Shelley would be a dear friend. I can’t play favorites, but I love this pair so much. Their wedding was stunning beyond all measure, from the plantation’s natural beauty to all those little jars overflowing with flowers to the tangible love expressed by family and friends throughout the day. Sierra Madre Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Erich McVey

Take a second to look up the definition of “all-star wedding team” in the dictionary, and we’re pretty sure you’ll find the following names as examples: Erich McVey, Catherine C. Leo of CCL Weddings & Events, and Shelby Nolan of Green Leaf Designs. This dream team assembled Lindsey and Kyle’s wedding day into a display of lush greenery, blush tones, and a generous helping of sequins, all aided by the photography skills of McVey.

From the bride, Lindsey: My husband loves golf and so he naturally can’t help falling in love with the color green! This became one of our colors very early on also because our last name means “leaf” – We incorporated a leaf garland into our silhouette monogram and this theme was carried out in our leaf garland at our ceremony and tables at our reception. Lush green leaves and dainty maiden fern could be seen in our details.

Villa Del Sol D’oro was everything we were looking for in a venue. The 1920s villa was modeled after one of Michaelangelo’s designs and had the most charming interior that matched the beauty of the exterior. From the outside, you could feel the warmth of Tuscany. But once were were on the inside, it felt like we had entered an estate from the Great Gatsby! Warm cobblestones and black and white checkered floors were just some details our dancing feet fell in love with!

We had to use every part of this romantic villa! We named each of the rooms of the villa which was inspired by the different lands you can find at Disneyland! Guests entered through our “Grand Entrance” where a sign displayed “Welcome to our Happily Ever After.” The “Sweet Suite” was where our cake from MerelySweet was displayed on a gold sequence tablecloth. In the “Pop Parlor” we served soda pop and popcorn which was being freshly popped outside. A silhouette artist sat in our long hallway which we titled “Mainstreet.” In this hall, we also had our escort cards which were “tickets” to Disneyland rides- It’s a Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. Dinner was enjoyed on the “Tasteful Terrace” under twinkling lights. After dinner, we danced and cut cake in the library of the house which was splashed with gold confetti and reminiscent of a 1920s party. In the evening, the doors were opened and a food truck served churros – our favorite treat at Disneyland!!
