Tammy of Uniquity Invitations is stopping by to graciously share this mini shoot the she created, shot by Cora’s Photography. She also designed a set of editable free downloads, which includes save-the-dates, favor tags, table number assignment, and of course feather templates for your DIY arrows. This is just a teaser of her matching wedding invitation coming out this week. This project has a fun spin on “Shot through the heart” written all over it!

What you’ll need:

- striped paper straws or pencils (depending on what you’re giving your guests in the bag, striped pencils can be found at Michael’s)
- large wood slices, available at floral + craft stores
- tacky glue
- scissors
- cardstock
- drill

The seating chart display idea of arrows stuck on the wood would be equally adorable with itty bitty arrows with mini flags made out of toothpicks with your guests names on flags. Using the feather template and blue and green cardstock, cut out your feathers. If you prefer, you can also fringe them sans template and used patterned cardstock to mix and match.

We’re getting close to the end of our contest, and the final entries are just as amazing as the first ones. Brittany’s DIY entry is a magnetic paper accordion wheel escort card project for her own wedding. You can also make your own magnetic board seating chart like she did for maximum DIYness!

What you’ll need:
For the tags:

- Scrapbooking papers in many coordinating patterns
- Plain colored scrapbook paper
- Round scrapbook punch (you can find it here)
- Paper scoring tool
- Zip Dry paper glue
- Hot glue gun
- Ribbon
- Printer-friendly vellum paper (http://www.paperandmore.com/clear_vellum_paper_29_acid_free_3.html )
- Glue Dots
- Sheet magnet (Avery makes a good one available at office supply stores, I got mine from a local print shop in large sheets)

For the display frames:

- Large picture frames (thrift shop)
- Plywood cut to size
- Magnetic paint (you can find it here)

The pinwheel is a basic scrapping/cardmaking flower pattern. There are plenty of online tutorials you can follow, but I’ll do my best. Use 12”w scrapbook paper squares. Cut into 1.5”w strips to make 3”w flowers. Use a scoring tool to score paper at .5” intervals. Fold, accordion-style, at creases. This is a good job to offer to EVERYONE YOU KNOW! Once strips are scored and folded, glue the two ends together to form a circle with Zip Dry glue. Pile up your little paper circles until you are ready to start making the flower.

Cut 1” circles out of plain colored paper and also out of sheet magnet. Place parchment paper on your work surface to avoid sticking your flowers down. Put a dab of hot glue on your plain colored circle and let it cool slightly. While it’s cooling, press your circle down flat to make the flat circular flower- this takes a bit of finesse, but you’ll get really good at it. Carefully pick up your hot-glued circle and press into the center of your flower. Put a little something on top of the flower to keep it flat- I used a small glass spice jar. Allow flower to cool completely, and it will stay perfectly flat. Turn the flower over and add a round magnet to the back with hot glue. Your flower is done!

To make your name flags: print out your guests’ names on vellum paper, allowing enough space in between rows to cut the names into strips. Cut your strips to a width just a smudge thinner than the ribbon you have chosen. Cut your name strips to uniform length (based on the longest name!), leaving enough space to tuck the flag into the flower center, then cut out the triangle at the end by hand. A bit time consuming, but it’s the best way to have perfect lines.

Using a glue dot, attach a single name flag to a your ribbon. Cut the ribbon off just a bit longer than the name flag, and fold/cut to make the pointed detail at the end of the ribbon.

Get out your pretty magnet flowers. Take a name flag and adhere it to the center dot using a glue dot. Add one more paper circle to the top, covering the straight end of the name flag (but not covering the name! This is why you left extra space on your names when you cut them.). Once all your names are done, you can write the guest’s table number on the magnet side using a metallic Sharpie.

Make your display frames by removing the glass from thrift store frames. Spray paint if you want, or leave them distressed. Cut plywood to fit inside the frame and paint with magnetic paint- several coats. Carefully nail the plywood into your frame.

Arrange the escort flowers in alphabetical order onto your magnetic display frames – you may need several depending on the size of your guest list. Display the frames on decorative art easels- I found mine on CraigsList.

It’s a labor of love, but I LOVE these escort tags! Ask everyone you know to help, really, and plan on spending plenty of time on this project. For me, it was worth it!

Step 1. Hollow out light bulbs. The following link is a step-by-step tutorial: http://www.teamdroid.com/diy-hollow-out-a-light-bulb/ (it’s messy and time consuming! get a couple friends to create an ‘assembly line’)

Step 2. Spray paint the cap of the light bulb to flat black for a cleaner look (make sure to tape around the edge of the cap to protect the glass from the spray paint)

Step 3. Print the place cards at home: guest’s name on front and instructions for care of terrarium/tillandsia on the inside. (husband did this with photoshop – i am terrible with photoshop!)

Step 4. Insert the tillandsia and a bit of dry moss into the light bulb. Tillandsia may need to be trimmed to fit through small opening of bulb. (we completed this step 2 days before the wedding with family)

Step 5. Attach silicone bumpers to the bottom of bulb for stability
Step 6. Hole punch place card and secure with metal wire

Our next DIY project was created by Jessica. Her lovebird seating chart display is totally steal worthy, jaw droppingly adorable. Note the birdy bride with a mini veil and the birdy groom with a top hat on each end of the pole :)

What you’ll need:
- Tray of home grown wheatgrass
- 3 24″ balsa dowels
- Balsa wood sign
- Gold metallic string
- Miniature clothes line clips
- Guest’s names printed on paper
- A pair of wedding birds from craft store
- Black paint for sign

Instructions:
Step 1: Purchase wheatgrass kit online and follow instructions.

Step 2: Construct wire poles by cutting one of the 3 balsa dowels into 5 even pieces (about 5 inches). Wrap gold string around the top cross bar in a star pattern until parallel and secure. Repeat on lower cross bar. Repeat for opposite pole.

Step 3: Tie gold string between the two wire poles for the names to hang on. Push the poles into the tray of wheatgrass.

Step 4: Pin guest names to the string with mini clothes pins. Glue wedding birds on opposite tops of poles.

Step 5: Hand paint sign. Glue the remaining 5 inch piece of dowel to the back of the sign. Stick sign into the front of the wheatgrass tray.

We’re beaming with glee from the overwhelming response to the DIY Contest. There were so many great entries that we couldn’t just pick a few, so we extended the selection to 50 (and counting) DIY projects. We’re still going through submissions! To replenish your thirst for real wedding features, we will continue to share our favorite weddings and design shoots in between the DIY sessions. We will be sharing our selected entries in the order they were submitted. First up is a project sent by Rhiannon, who made a seating chart display made out of discarded wood and vintage lace.

What you’ll need:
- stained vintage wood scraps or pieces (I used pieces of wood from an old discarded skid)
- evenly cut pieces of starched lace (I used ivory colored lace with minimal stretch)
- a glue gun
- fabric scissors
- mini wood clothespins
- wood spray paint
- patterned paper punch
- mini shipping tags (from Staples)
- colored marker for writing names and table numbers

Instructions:
Step 1: Depending on the desired size of your structure, draw a sketch of how you would like it to look and ‘feel’ (I wanted something small and simple). Once you’ve visualized and drawn your structure on paper you can cut your wood pieces to your liking prior to assembling the pieces together. My handy neighbor cut my wood and then drilled the pieces of wood together for me.

Step 2: Glue gun one end of a piece of lace to the back top of one side of the structure. Pull it across to the other side and fasten the other end with more glue (you will want the piece of lace to be tightly pulled so that the clothes pegs won’t weight the tops of the lace down). The more starched your pieces of lace are, the better. I used a simple water and cornstarch mixture to stiffen up my lace.

Step 3: Continue gluing strips of lace across the entire structure until you have covered the width from top to bottom. You could also glue to pieces from bottom to top as opposed to left to right, which is the way I opted to make mine.

Step 4: Place clothes pins on the edge of a shoe or cardboard box and place box over a newspaper-covered area. Spray the clothes pegs from all angles with spray paint in desired color. Let dry before removing from the box.

Step 5: White the clothes pins are drying, start punching the edges of the shipping tags with desired shape and design punch. I used an eyelet pattern cutter by Martha. Handwrite guest names and table numbers on each tag. Arrange tags along pieces of lace fastening with the spray painted clothes pins (which will be dry of course!)

Step 6: Set up the seating chart up at your reception venue next to some vintage birdcages and a dreamy floral concoction and watch guests oh and ah over the creative way of displaying their seats!

This design may be one of my favorite free printables ever featured on Ruffled so far! This week Carolynn from Two Brunettes designed a candy buffet and cake table sign set, with blank matching cards. You can use the blank cards to complete your candy buffet, or to write the names of the cakes you’re serving for a homemade cake table of sorts. They are also the perfect size to be used as place cards and/or escort cards, to double the fun.
