Blue and Peach Organic Wedding

Romantic Weddings

The combination of soft blue and delicate peach in today’s wedding is one to fall in love with. Caroline Lima Photography and Tre Bella worked to make Danielle and Adam’s big day as memorable as possible, and we have no doubt they achieved their goal. There’s much to love in this wedding, but we’re still reeling over the bride’s emotional first look with her father!

From the photographer, Caroline Lima Photography: When I asked Danielle and Adam to name three things that made them fall in love with each other, they had a bit of trouble responding at first. That’s because they both felt that creating a short list would be difficult. But finally they spoke of being drawn to one another also because they each share a deep devotion to their families. And as I watched their beautiful wedding unfold, as their two families became one, I could clearly see why! Danielle and Adam come from truly loving, kind-hearted stock.

Mountain Estate Wedding in North Carolina

Elegant Weddings

Hearing Nancy Ray Photography describe Taylor and Chris’ wedding day, we so wish we could have been there ourselves to take in the whole day. Flower Gallery outdid themselves with arrangements full of ivory and pink blooms and lush greenery (including a cool weather favorite, dusty miller). Prepare to fall in love!

From the photographer, Nancy Ray Photography: The moment I stepped onto the beautiful mountain estate where this wedding celebration was held, my breath was taken away. I wish I could take you by the hand right now and lead you through the secret passage ways that led from one garden to another, to show you the historic home nestled on the side of the mountain, to let you feel the cool summer air that can only be felt in the mountains, to let you listen to the rumblings of thunder that never brought the rain (thanks to the buried bourbon!), to lead you to the ceremony tent that perfectly fit inside a garden walled with trees, to walk you around the wrap around porch that held the laughter and conversations of so many guests that day. This wedding was one of the most uniquely beautiful weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing.

To add to that, Taylor and Chris are the most down to earth, devoted couple you’ll ever meet. High school sweethearts have a familiarity that already gives you the feeling that their married in some ways, because they know each other so well and have been together so long. This familiarity in Taylor and Christian only made things more exciting on their wedding day, because they, as very best friends, had looked forward to it for so long. This day sealed the many days of their lives they had already spent together, as they vowed to continue to live their lives together loving one another forever. They have an old love with a new, fresh excitement.

Casey Brodley, Photographer

I’m not a traditional wedding photographer. My background and training is steeped in photo journalism, so that’s how I approach a wedding. My goal is to document the day, not stage it. I let moments unfold naturally, with minimal prom posing and minimal “say cheese” interference.

As a photo journalist, I come prepared for anything. Every wedding is different. I have witnessed full-grown men weep more times than I can count. I have seen smiles so wide that I’m concerned someone may burst a blood vessel. I have climbed mountains with all my gear. And this one time a sprinkler system was triggered during a ceremony.

As a wedding photographer, I walk into every job with the guarantee that I will witness pure joy. But more importantly, I walk into every job with the probability that my day will end with cake. I like to keep my cake-to-work ratio balanced. For health reasons.

Garden Wedding in Dripping Springs

Garden Weddings

I swear, it’s like today’s wedding took elements of all our favorite types of weddings and rolled it into one, and ended up with one ridiculously beautiful wedding day. The Nichols and Gypsy Floral put some absolutely beautiful work in as photographers and event designer/florist, respectively. And that dessert bar with drool-worthy iced donuts? Well, we’re already trying to find excuses to set one of those up at all of our upcoming events!

From the bride, Averi: I wanted it to have a boho/romantic style with a comfortable easy going feeling. I also wanted it to have some whimsical/personal touches, like the pug cake toppers (we have 2 pugs), pug cuff links, funfetti cake/donuts, and the DIY calligraphy & cake table backdrop.

Bouquet recipe: Lots of peonies, ranunculus, roses, garden roses, dusty miller, anemone, & protea (a hawaiian flower added to the arch) and a few others I am not sure the name of.

Our color scheme was white & creme, peach, blush, celedon + sea glass with pops of pink, bright peony & gold. I hand painted the watercolor escort and place cards and did the calligraphy on them. I also did the calligraphy on the bar sign, and welcome sign. I made the tassel backdrop behind the cake table.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It is so easy to get caught up in the whole planning process and the million different awesome ideas you see on Pinterest. I definitely let some really small silly things stress me out that in the big picture didn’t end up mattering at all. I would say that just to try and enjoy the planning process and not get to swept up in the insignificant details. I know it sounds cliche, but honestly it really is about marrying the person you love and not about having the perfect Koozie color or a rain-free day. I tried not to let myself have an exact image of what the whole day would look like, because I didn’t want to get weirdly let down if it wasn’t the perfect picture I saw in my head. So when the day came around, a lot of it was a surprise to me and I absolutely loved how everything turned out!

Bohemian Wedding at Secluded Garden Estate

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Priscila Valentina

Today’s wedding is a perfect blend of all the styles we love, which results in a wedding we just can’t take our eyes off of. Danielle and Eric began dating at only 14 years old, and were even married by the groom’s own sister who had watched the relationship grow since childhood. Don’t miss any of the sweet details captured by Priscila Valentina!

From the bride, Danielle: I originally wanted the style of my wedding to be more on the rustic side but after researching and looking at blogs of other weddings I realized that I really loved the vintage styles that were being done. So from there I kinda just had the idea of doing more vintage with a little bit of rustic to it. I didn’t exactly have a theme but knew I just wanted it to be as simple as possible and nothing over the top. As far as colors I wanted to have neutrals with light pastel colors. I told my bridesmaids to try to find something neutral and that they could pick their dress and if I liked it then it was fine for them to get. It turned out that all of them were only finding dresses that were blush color so I just decided that they all just had to be blush and since the guys were wearing grey I knew that would work out perfectly. So overall my colors were neutral with soft pinks and of course our venue was full of greenery so that helped finish everything off.

Oh one thing I wanted to point out that was very special to me was the fact that my sister-in-law was the one who married us. My husband and I began dating when we were 14 and I became friends with his younger sister right away and she has become one of my best friends. It was very meaningful because she has watched us grow in our relationship for the last 12 years. So when she threw the idea out there I couldn’t have been more happier because she has been there through it all and truly knows us as individuals and a couple. Her marrying us was one of the highlights of the day.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? After going through this entire experience the one thing I would want to know if I was just starting this process would be to have a small wedding. We had about 200 guests and it was extremely overwhelming. Most of our time was spent just saying hi and that was it. There wasn’t enough time to have conversations with people. So any advice would be to have a small intimate wedding. It will be hard to cut down the list of people but well worth it. Oh and make sure you EAT!!! You don’t want to have an empty stomach because it is such a long day.

Romantic Seaside Wedding

Beach Weddings

Photos by:

Michelle Gardella

Looking at this sweet and romantic seaside wedding, you’d never know the couple had nearly 200 guests. Alana and Max wanted their big day to feel intimate and personal, and there’s no doubt the couple achieved their goal. Add some photography by Michelle Gardella Photography, with Thomas Gardella as lead photographer, and Victoria Schaefer as assistant, and floral design by the ever-talented MDS Floral Design, and you’re good to go!

romantic seaside wedding - photo by Michelle Gardella Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-seaside-wedding

From the bride, Alana: Even before we were engaged, I didn’t want to have my wedding in a traditional catering hall (not that there is anything wrong with it, it just wasn’t our style.) When we visited our venue, Bonnet Island Estate for the first time we absolutely fell in love with the grounds, the reception hall and most of all the boat house chapel. The way the floors creaked in certain spots, the breeze that came through the barn doors and the stone fireplace just felt like home. I knew our ceremony would feel intimate in the space even with 170+ guests. We wanted a “classically romantic” wedding filled with personal details and everything about Bonnet fit our vision. We knew that once the chapel was decorated; the fireplace was filled with candles, the mantel and archway decorated with greenery and soft, fluffy, pale colored flowers our vision would come to life. What made our ceremony even more special and intimate was that fact that Max’s father played the guitar and sang as we walked down the aisle, my aunt married us and the readings we chose were read by our family members. We lit a unity candle and Max broke the glass to blend both of our faiths and traditions.

Bouquet recipe: My bouquet was a wispy hand tied rounded style bouquet that included pale pink peonies, pale pink ranunculus, pale pink astilbe, blush stock, cream and pale pink garden roses, café latte Dahlia, wispy fern leaves, seeded eucalyptus and gray dusty miller.

There was no specific theme other than the fact that we knew we wanted our wedding to be about our love. We wanted to include as much family as possible to make it feel intimate, combine both faiths with traditions (my husband is Catholic and I was brought up both Jewish and Catholic), and we wanted to throw an amazing party for all of our guests. Our color scheme was blush and navy blue with touches of gold. Yes, there were some DIY projects involved! I made all of our table numbers, “The Adventure Beings” sign, stained and spray painted our card box, assembled the programs to make them into fans and make our signature drink sign. We also took my grandmothers old mirror and remove the mirror, replaced it with a foam board and hired a calligrapher to write our welcome sign.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? There are definitely a few things I would pass along as words of wisdom to future brides! 1. It sounds so cliché but, enjoy every step of the process because as everyone told me, it goes by so fast. You become so consumed with lists of things that have to get done and the anticipation of your big day that when you’re wedding week finally does arrive; it is such a surreal feeling. If you take your time to enjoy every step of the process you can think back after your wedding is over and truly appreciate everything that you put into it and really appreciate just how perfect it was. 2. You will hear this over and over from previous brides, but the day goes by so fast. Take a few moments during your wedding day; just you and your new husband to sit back and take everything in. All of the hard work that you put into your big day and all of the love that everyone in the room has for you. This may be the only time that all of your family and friends will be in one room, so you really need to have a “pinch me” moment and soak it all in. 3. Planning a wedding is like having a full time job that can be all consuming and can get very stressful at times. It was important to us to step away from the planning every once in a while and have a date night where wedding talk was off limits! It really helped put things back into perspective, because in the end it didn’t matter if the tables had an overlay, what color the flowers were going to be or what songs we would dance to. What mattered is that we were making the commitment to marrying each other. To being each other’s forever. Sometimes you have to take a step back to really see the big picture. 4. The week/days leading up to your wedding try to relax. Whatever didn’t get done by that point probably won’t and that’s OK because you will be the only one to notice. Accept the fact that something is bound to go wrong, little or big so if it does, you can acknowledge it without getting upset and continue to enjoy your wedding day, because it will be over in the blink of an eye. Everything will be perfect.

Blush Woodland Fairy Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

Today’s styled shoot, brought to us by the talented team of Rising Lotus Photography, Pea to Tree Events, and Hannah’s Floral & Events, blends whimsical and modern style and sets it in the middle of the forest. Decor elements take inspiration from nature’s very own offerings, like the menu signs displayed on thick branch wedges.

blush woodland fairy inspiration shoot - photo by Rising Lotus Photography http://ruffledblog.com/blush-woodland-fairy-inspiration-shoot

From the event designer, Georgette of Pea to Tree Events: Because our creative team is based in Florida, our love of nature might be expected. But we designed this shoot for couples who savor entertaining and socializing outdoors. We looked at this forest of trees at Casa Lantana and saw an outdoor room, not just as a magical backdrop, but as an integral part of a wedding celebration. We saw a place to live in, create memories and host a gathering of loved ones. The classic elements of a wedding day are presented in a unique way, with a hint of whimsy and in an unexpected location. Imagine guests’ reactions to a multi-tiered cake suspended from a tree! Or how irresistible they’ll find the lushly decorated dessert table. Ever fancied having newlywed portraits taken while sitting on swing adorned in flowers? Yes, we’ve got you covered… covered in lots of pretty.

The blush, champagne and golden palette was chosen to complement the natural setting. Drawing inspiration from the woodland backdrop, the blush wedding gown features hand sewn petals along the train made to appear as if they are falling into the forest floor. The elements used throughout the shoot are a play of natural mixed with manmade and classic mixed with modern. For instance, bark pieces serve as a uniquely creative way to list food items and reference the organic setting. Candelabras atop the tablescapes are a nod to old world elegance, while the lounge area has a modern feel.

The details were styled with a whimsical yet modern approach so prospective brides can envision the design possibilities from an elegant affair to something more extravagant. Speaking of extravagant, there’s a butterfly headpiece finished in 18k gold leaf seen at New York Fashion Week.

Romantic North Carolina Beach Wedding

Beach Weddings

Photos by:

Sawyer Baird

Today’s wedding is light, airy, and romantic — everything the newlyweds wanted, and everything a beach wedding should be. Sawyer Baird captured the entire day on film photography, a day full of inspiring floral design from Tildy Designs and expert coordination by Bridal by the Sea. Keep an eye out at the end for special sunset wedding portraits in a gold reception gown, because we’re pretty sure it doesn’t get any better than something that beautiful!

From the bride, Jessica: Austin and I would have been happy to be married at the court house so we really wanted to focus on simplicity and romance. We had a gorgeous venue to get married at so luckily it didn’t really need a lot of decorating… plus we had an ocean view and it really doesn’t get much better than that! I had some close friends who I have known for a long time and where directly involved with making the day extra special — the ceremony painter, dress designer, ceremony vocalist — which was amazing! We aimed for Light, Airy and Romantic with personal touches and a Southern food theme.

I am a painter and a photographer by trade so the color palette was pretty hard for me — I knew the colors could easily get carried away because I don’t really have any one favorite. I would just have them all if I could! I tried to start with a pretty neutral color palette with blush and gold — I ended up with added hits of darker magenta added and splashes of green from the greenery. I hand painted some signs for the dessert table and for the menu. I also made gifts for the women (some coworkers of mine threw a breakfast earlier that day with about 25 ladies). They got simple tie string infinity knot bracelets with a little card that had an illustration of Austin and I on it. I also made the Thank You cards at the place settings. Also – my Mother made the ring bearer pillow from her own veil from when she got married.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My best advice for a couple currently planning a wedding would be that something will inevitably go wrong — and when it does, the most important thing to remember is that this day belongs to you and your significant other so take time to soak it all in and enjoy it. I was so excited to marry Austin that I wanted to run right down the isle to him. Throughout the day when Id notice something that wasn’t quite right Id just look over at him and remember that this was the first day of our forever — it was only going to happen once and little things like napkin colors and too much wind wasn’t what was important… The most important thing was who I was leaving with and how much we love each other.

Spring Wedding with an Illusion Lace Gown

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Taylor Lord

Where to begin with Rory and Jason’s jaw-dropping wedding day? The soft pastel tones, the pops of gold, the Fort Worth warmth, and the woodsy accents are all memorable in their own rights, but we’d be remiss in our duties if we didn’t point out the show-stopping wedding gown by Yaki Ravid. All vendors truly shone in this wedding, including the always wonderful Taylor Lord and Shabby Rose!

From the bride, Rory: This wedding was planned with a whimsical, earthy yet romantic feel with a touch of sparkle. I strove to really let my personal style shine through. I wanted our guests to walk in and say “this is so Rory.”

Romantic Wedding in the Berkshires

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

The Melideos

Today’s couple, Angela and Ryan, actually eloped late last year — but they still didn’t want to miss out on a good time with friends and family. The Melideos and Flower Blossom Farm were at the top of their list to help them celebrate in style, with a night that included everything from a cocktail hour to late-night pizza.

romantic wedding in the Berkshires - photo by The Melideos http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-in-the-berkshires

From the bride, Angela: My husband and I actually eloped last September. We wanted a small and intimate ceremony but also wanted to be able to celebrate with family and friends at a future date. We didn’t have a ‘theme’ per se but we knew we wanted a casual vibe with no pressure for us or our guests. The Berkshires was a perfect location since we have roots spread between MA, MD and NY. We chose the Seven Hills Inn because it was the perfect mix of casual and elegant and it could accommodate almost all of our guests, most of whom came up for the whole weekend. Since there was no ceremony, the party kicked off with cocktail hour on the patio, followed by dinner, drinks, dancing, a slow-motion photo booth and late-night pizza.

We had yard games set up for Friday evening/ Saturday during the day. Custom corn hole boards, bocce, ladder golf, hanging lanterns, etc. One of my dear (and very crafty!) friends helped make a sign which read “This Is Everything” which was hung over a hammock and used for pictures.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Try not to get lost in the details… Easier said than done but try to remember that the day is about celebrating LOVE and two people starting a life together, not the centerpieces and seating cards. Pastel Ontario Wedding at Sprucewood Shores

Rustic Weddings

Any day is a good one for a winery wedding, so we’re delighted to share this one from Vicki Bartel Photography and Anything and Everything with you all! Carleigh and Scott’s big day was full of sweet nods to their relationship and a pastel color palette accentuated with plenty of hydrangea, roses, and dusty miller. The couple had three incredible cakes for the guests — which is your favorite?

From the photographer, Vicki Bartel Photography: Carleigh and Scott had a relaxed wedding day at a gorgeous winery. Soft pink, ivory, and chalkboard accents were chosen as decor elements. The outdoor ceremony was set up in a circle so all of the guests could have a front row seat. Carleigh and Scott wanted to represent how their lives had come full circle up until that moment. The dessert table was made up of three wedding cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. The hanging centerpiece over the sweetheart table was chosen to not block the beautiful view of the vineyard in the background. Candlelight mason jars, birch, and greenery made for romantic and soft elements.

Al Fresco Vintage Wedding in California

Rustic Weddings

Brittany and Sean are both graphic designers who love vintage style, so it seems natural their wedding day would be a winner all around. Still Music Photography and Mountain Laurel were brought on board to bring their vision to life, and what a job they did! One of our favorite details is that the couple had a projector playing black and white films in the backyard during the reception — such a great idea.

From the bride, Brit: I grew up in the foothills, and Sean grew up in San Diego but fell in love with the natural beauty and peace of my hometown so we knew we wanted to get married outside in Northern California. We started out with what we wanted the wedding to feel like and then went from there. We are both graphic designers and love vintage style — so we wanted the style to be classic and romantic, but still have really fun elements that made it personal.

Flower recipe: My bouquet had anemones, roses, eucalyptus leaves, privet berries, dusty miller, and poppy and other seed pods. The bridesmaids were mostly lavender roses with loads of greenery (eucalyptus leaves and dusty miller) that cascaded down. The bouquets were the only florals we had professionally done, but my mom adding finishing touches to them, including wrapping long satin ribbons around the bases and adding buttons from my grandmother’s wedding dress (buttons my great-grandmother had made) to my bouquet.

We didn’t have a theme, but we knew we had to be careful so that it didn’t get too country since it was outdoors and there was a barn involved… so we made sure everything aside from the barn leaned more toward the sophisticated, fun side. I wanted everything to be soft. We got married in the fall and it was GORGEOUS out — the leaves were turning, but everything was golden and full still, so the colors were all pretty neutral shades of grey, nude, and pink so that we fit into the scenery without competing with it. We were on a budget, but are also both really creative and crafty, so we were excited to design and create all of the elements of the wedding from the save the dates to the drink tags, to the cookie bar signage. Sean & I designed all of the invitations, signage, and finishing touches and we had a huge amount of help from my mom who collected, constructed and styled a lot of the decorative elements at the wedding including the floral arrangements, vintage furniture, and centerpieces.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? There is going to be a lot of noise from everyone else on how your wedding should be, but do what you both want to do: make it you! The biggest compliment we received was people saying it felt like us and was so personal, and that’s what it should be. I listened to all the advice and suggestions, but ultimately went with what we both wanted and we are so happy we did.

Wedding Music:
This was another thing we both sat down and did together and had a lot of fun with! Sean is a big punk fan and I am a big jazz fan, so we had fun making the playlist. Originally, we had planned another song for our recessional, but I had a surprise planned for Sean: he’s a huge Star Wars fan (Huge!) so I asked the DJ to play the Throne Room song from the original Star Wars. He flipped. I told Jeremy what I had planned and he got a great shot of Sean realizing what was playing while we were walking out.

Sweet Indoor Garden Wedding at Horticulture Center

Blue Label, Garden Weddings

Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park Horticulture Center is undoubtedly one of our favorite venues, and we love it even more when adorned with the talents of Brae Howard Photography, Petals Lane, and Lauren James Events. Alysa and Dan’s indoor garden wedding was built around the beauty of their venue, and once you see how gorgeous this space is, you’ll know how much of a wise decision it was!

From the bride, Alysa: We wanted our wedding to feel warm, sophisticated, and easygoing! We didn’t really have a theme. Once I picked the fabric and color (“sea mist”) of the bridesmaids’ dresses, we sort of just went from there, and crossed our fingers that everything would coordinate! The Horticulture Center speaks for itself — our aim was just to accentuate its loveliness.

From the photographer, Brae Howard: Alysa and Dan were married at the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center in Philadelphia. Alysa was such a graceful and gracious bride and it was evident how in love these two were. We loved Alysa’s stunning and sleek wedding gown and it was a delight to photograph such a diverse group of women in her bridal party. One cute DIY aspect of Alysa’s wedding is that her little sister made their wedding cake!

Romantic Maine Wedding with Glitzy Details

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Emily Delamater

After seeing this beautiful wedding from Emily Delamater and Sweetest Thing Weddings, I’m convinced Maine just has to be my next destination spot — just take a look at these striking landscapes! Jaclyn and Kaleb’s wedding had some glitz and glamour, but they kept the day stocked with entertainment and games to ensure their guests would remember all the fun for years to come.

romantic Maine wedding with glitzy details - photo by Emily Delamater http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-maine-wedding-with-glitzy-details

From the bride, Jaclyn: Style and feel? Well, I think I must have changed my mind a thousand times. I wanted it to be fun, to be entertaining, and to be unique everywhere you look. This is where the “game” theme came in. We started by using Mad Libs for the RSVPs, and during the cocktail hour we had activities such as corn hole and giant Jenga. During the dinner each person was given another set of Mad Libs cards at their seats to fill out as well, and after dinner there was of course dancing, but we added a Photo Booth for fun :).

I was told by everyone that the wedding felt warm, and that everyone and everything gave off a welcoming vibe. Draping lights from the ceiling and having as many candles on the tables as possible definitely helped with the warmth. The colors I tried to stick to were blush and grey, and my amazing talented bridesmaids DIYed the chalkboards that we used for signage.

Romantic Wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Cassidy Brooke

If there’s a team that knows how to throw one elegant affair, it’s Cassidy Brooke, Pink Diamond Events, and Garden Path. Katie and Markus’ wedding in Colorado is full of a variety of details we love, from the window pane ceremony backdrop to the cupcake dessert table. Really, strawberry cheesecake cupcakes — how could we resist?!

romantic wedding at Spruce Mountain Ranch - photo by Cassidy Brooke http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-at-spruce-mountain-ranch

From the bride, Katie: Markus and I met my freshmen year in college at Colorado State University after my sister and brother in law introduced us the first week of class. With mutual friends and a love for swing dancing we got to know each other better throughout that year. Then the following summer, Markus and I both went on a mission trip to South Africa and the rest is history. Two years later he proposed to me on the same campus where we met and so our life together began.

The inspiration for our wedding was “rustic romance with a hint of vintage” and we wanted a venue that could capture it all. Spruce Mountain Ranch became the perfect setting. The cattle ranch provided rustic wood buildings nestled alongside lush greenery perfect for pictures and a romantic ceremony. My love for thrifting quickly became the “hint of vintage” as antique windows hanging from a willow tree became the backdrop for our ceremony and antique centerpieces made up of vases, trinkets, lace, pearls, books, and pictures frames created the vintage feel.

Our biggest DIY project was definitely the centerpieces. Each of the twenty tables had different centerpieces of items that my mom and I found at various thrift stores in our hometown. Everything from cigar boxes, books, crates, and jewelry boxes held the vases with hydrangeas, ranunculus, garden roses, and baby’s breath. I love that no centerpiece was the same and my mom and I had a lot of fun rearranging all of the different elements! My sister (and matron of honor) was also a huge help in creating all of the table numbers and chalk signs with her hand lettering. We used picture frames and windows found at thrift stores, then backed them with chalkboard contact paper and used white chalkboard markers to do the lettering. Doing projects like these ourselves saved tons of money and added a personal touch.

Magnolia Plantation Wedding with Sequins

Elegant Weddings

If there’s any location that’s great for a weekend getaway wedding, it has to be Charleston, SC. This wedding from Troy Grover Photographers and Branch Design Studio features not only Charleston’s stunning scenery, but also tons of great ideas to scoop up and a dreamy color palette of pastel tones, gold, and just the right amount of sequins.

Magnolia Plantation wedding with sequins - photo by Troy Grover Photographers http://ruffledblog.com/magnolia-plantation-wedding-with-sequins

From the bride, Allison: We decided early on to have a destination wedding given how spread out all of our friends and family are across the country and overseas. We wanted a location that would feel like a fun and special weekend getaway, and Charleston fit that bill perfectly. The city has such personality and charm, it’s full of romance, celebrates hospitality, and of course has amazing food. We wanted our wedding to include all of these things!

We wanted to incorporate color into the wedding, but still feel soft and true to the garden look of Magnolia, as well as the spring season – nothing too bold or loud. We used a sea foam watercolor look on all of our paper goods, and the bridesmaids wore varying shades of grey and mint. The flower arrangements were full of pinks and corals, and we incorporated touches of gold throughout to tie all of the details together. It was a little nerve wracking trying to envision all of the colors and textures together, but our vendors did such an amazing job and we could not have been more thrilled with how beautifully everything turned out!

Neither of us are huge fans of cake, so we knew we wanted to have a different dessert. When we realized our wedding fell on pi day (3.1415), serving pies seemed like a perfect way to celebrate the date, and it added to the southern feel of the wedding. We had five different flavors and they were all incredible. We named our tables after streets that Brendon and I have lived on throughout our lives, and tied the escort cards to vintage skeleton keys. Our graphic designer (also my best friend) created a skeleton key design that we used on our menus, programs, and guest book. Within the key, she incorporated our initials and a pi sign – it was such a special and unique tie-in to the theme.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Set a date to just stop the planning and start enjoying the wedding festivities. This was (fortunately) forced upon us since we had to travel out of town for the wedding. Once we left home, we were much more limited in what we could take care of last minute. Anything that wasn’t done or purchased at that point, we decided to just do without. It really allowed us to enjoy time with our friends and family in the days leading up to the wedding, rather than run around taking care of last minute details. I’m also a huge huge advocate for prioritizing wedding photography. Working with Troy & Aimee Grover was a dream, and they captured photos that we will have and cherish forever.

Handcrafted Boho Woodsy Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Vis Photography

We’re always supportive of couples who want to make their wedding day as unique as they are, so when we saw that bride Sara chose to have her grandmother act as a bridesmaid, we were sold. Sara went to town with endless DIY projects, which only added to the personalization of the day’s events you’ll see captured here by Leah of Vis Photography.

handcrafted boho woodsy wedding - photo by Vis Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-boho-woodsy-wedding

From the bride, Sara: I was really inspired by the stylings of Free People, BHLDN, and Anthropologie. While I realize they’re all the same company, their stylists and merchandisers have such an amazing grasp on what I wanted: a mix of vintage charm and natural, rustic woodsy touches. I’d say the look is romantic, natural, woodsy, and vintage. Our venue provided both the vintage charm and a natural setting with the ocean view, the rolling hills, and the farm animals. I incorporated my artistic side by using an airy blue watercolor effect on the invitations and the feather garland surrounding the reception space.

Flower recipes: My bouquet was freesia, garden roses, silver dollar eucalyptus, seeded eucalyptus, lisianthus, amaranthus, China mums, white statice, and dusty miller. The centerpieces used the succulents I’d grown, eucalyptus, bay leaf, and rosemary amongst the antlers. They smelled amazing!!

In line with the emphasis on personalizing my big day was inviting my Grandmother to be a Bridesmaid. She has always been such a big part of my life, and I’ve always considered her more a friend than an “elder”. Not to say she isn’t wise–I can always count on her for being up for Happy Hour and for dishing out fashion tips (she always has the latest issues of Vogue and InStyle in her purse!) She picked out her own version of the bridesmaid dress and had custom, flowing, bohemian sleeves sewn on to her liking. We even included her in my bachelorette party! My Maid of Honor Kate printed out my grandmother’s face and put it on a paint stirrer. We took pictures with her everywhere with everyone all night!

I designed my Save the Dates, Invitations, and Thank you Cards. I cut hundreds (I think we counted 300 in all) of feathers out of scrapbook paper for garlands because I’m crazy like that, and I also painted watercolor paper in our signature blue and cut feathers out of those as well. These were also used as a detail accent in our place cards for the reception. I made the “his” and “her’s” arrow and dreamcatcher with a little help from a vendor on Etsy that provided the woodcut arrows. My mother in law and I made the druzy necklaces for my bridesmaids, as well. My Mom, Mother in Law, and Bridesmaids helped set up the altar as well as the centerpieces. I created signage from wood slices that I painted with chalkboard paint, and then used chalkboard markers for lettering. Basically, if I didn’t have anything to work on, I created a new project for myself. I just couldn’t stop. ;)

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Do what makes you happiest. I was fortunate in that my friends and family supported me when I told them “I want antlers as centerpieces!” and “Mom! I found the perfect venue: there are dogs and horses everywhere!!!” Even though my idea of the perfect day may have sounded a little off kilter, it truly WAS my perfect day in the end because it was so personalized. Also, don’t sweat the small stuff. Really. A week before the wedding, our flower provider (props to Reyna at Mellano Wholesalers for being AWESOME) told me the peonies and anemones I’d based my bouquets off of were wilting due to an unusual heat wave. I made compromises from my “dream” and guess what? No one knew the difference, and our bouquets were still beautiful!! On the day of, take time to take it all IN. You are so busy up to that day and on THE day, it’s easy to be swept up in it all and forget to truly zero in on the details of this day that you have worked so hard to prepare. Remember the look on your mother and father’s faces when they see you in your dress for the first time. Remember how excited your bridesmaids were to get ready and have champagne and celebrate everything that you and your Groom are. Remember how your groom teared up when he saw you walking down the aisle. Remember the atrocious dance moves you did with your Dad’s best friend’s wife on the dance floor! There are so many amazing moments to be had on your day. Forget about the rest and be PRESENT for it all!

Pacific Northwest Wedding with Country Touches

Vintage Weddings

As far as beautiful handmade touches are concerned, this wedding from Nakalan McKay Photography and Botanica Floral Design has got it going on. From the antique doors at the beginning of the ceremony aisle to the hanging window backdrop at the altar, every bit was made with love and shines with a sweet simplicity that’s always elegant.

From the bride, Becca: I wanted our wedding day to be focused on the life commitment we were making. I wanted the day to be personal, to show all of our guests how much we love each other and how we take our commitment seriously. The overall feel of the day I wanted to be whimsical and beautiful; a place guests felt welcomed and comfortable to have a great time.

I absolutely loved everything about our day. From decorations to the flowers to our vows, it was perfect. My favorite pieces of our wedding were the altar and entrance doors built by my talented brother-in-law. The altar was exactly what I envisioned and it added the perfect backdrop for the most important day of our lives. Mason and I had a blast and we have so much fun reliving that very special day.

“Ruth is an exceptional artist and artisan! She was very prompt to stay in communication with me throughout my ordering process. She worked with me to make sure that all my needs were met exactly. It was so comforting to work with her through the stressful process of ordering the perfect wedding invitations! I absolutely LOVE the way her products turned out, and cannot wait to send them to all my guests! Thank you SO MUCH Ruth, your kindness and professionalism have helped me more than you know!” ” – Emily D.

After living in the small town of Woods Hole on Cape Cod for nearly 11 years, Ruth, the owner and designer of Concertina Press, moved down to the sunny East coast of Florida to be closer to family. Her Cape Cod map save the date is still widely popular with couples getting married on the Cape, along with the matching wedding invitation. Since moving south she’s added more tropical designs including seahorses, sand dollars and waves.

Ruth takes pride in customer service, and making the online ordering process as easy as possible while still remaining personalized. You can purchase samples of any of her invitations online, or contact her directly with any questions or for a quote.

Handcrafted Wedding at Franciscan Gardens

DIY Weddings

No matter how many times I look it over, I just can’t get enough of this wedding. Maybe it’s the flamingo figurines, the natural elements like jute table runners and fresh fruit place settings, or even the Jonathan Adler salt and pepper cake toppers? Whatever it is, this gorgeous day from Yuna Leonard Photography and The Bloom of Time has shot its way up to the top of our list of favorites.

Handcrafted Wedding at Franciscan Gardens - photo by Yuna Leonard Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-wedding-at-franciscan-gardens

From the bride, Hedi: It was really important for us that our wedding felt organic and not too fussy, we liked to say we were going for an Indian-summer vibe. We wanted to incorporate natural materials, so we used jute runners on each dining table, and used tangerines as name tags on each place setting. We asked our florist to use a lot of greenery for our centerpieces instead of flowers which filled out our tables so nicely.

Stephen and I hired vendors who not only had a similar aesthetic to us, but who seemed like we would be friends outside of our planning process. We were so lucky to find such creative vendors who were just so kind and accommodating. We knew we wanted a venue where we could have an outdoor ceremony so when we found Franciscan Gardens, it was love at first sight. Once we booked our venue, we found our photographer from seeing her photos featured on a wedding blog. We just fell in love with her and her style and knew we didn’t want to hire anyone else. We also can’t speak highly enough about our florist, The Bloom of Time. We were given her info from our venue coordinator who said, “she is amazing”, and she really was. We gave her a few inspiration photos and but just told her do whatever she thought was best. My favorite DIY project from our wedding was our “love” marquee. I spotted the tutorial on Pinterest and immediately knew that this was a project worth sweating over.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice for other couples is to accept help when others offer, it is impossible to do everything yourself. Our wedding was so special because of the help that our family and friends gave us, whether it was picking something up, hand writing labels, or even a few dance lessons here and there, they are moments we will never forget.

Glam Wedding in a Warehouse

Elegant Weddings

“Elegant with an unexpected twist of industrial” is exactly how we would describe this wedding from Mallory + Justin Photographers. Raquel and Steve wanted a memorable wedding day in a warehouse space, and they found the ideal venue in Cleveland’s Lake Erie Building. Of course, the day wouldn’t have been complete without the floral designs from Plantscaping!

Glam Wedding in a Warehouse - photo by Mallory and Justin Photographers http://ruffledblog.com/glam-wedding-in-a-cleveland-warehouse

From the bride, Raquel: We wanted to make sure that the wedding felt very us, and not go overboard in too many details to make sure it was just for us (which Steve was really good at making sure I didn’t get too carried away!). We had recently moved back to Cleveland from Manhattan and we both really love the industrial look (think Houston Hall in West Village). We had looked around at a lot of warehouse space in Cleveland and had found out about the Lake Erie Building and we both loved it! We wanted it to be a party that not only Steve and I would remember, but that all of our guests will remember!

The color scheme we had in mind was navy blue, dark grey and a pale bluish-grey.. colors that we both love. Plus in the reception place, the Lake Erie Building, at night the windows at night had the perfect colors of blue that really made it look special inside without a lot of up lighting. For the DIYs, we had a lot of help from our families. My father and uncles hung all the lights for the reception and made the Edison bulb fixture for above our head table. We made the light up BAR and R&S signs. We made the chalkboard with the seating chart and I wrote out all the names, as well as all the names on the place cards on the champagne bottles.

Wedding Music:
For the ceremony we just chose the classic processional and recessional songs.
Bridal Party Entrance: “Safe and Sound,” Capital Cities
Cake Cutting: “Ho Hey,” The Lumineers
First Dance: “Below My Feet,” Mumford and Sons

From the photographers, Mallory + Justin Photographers: I’m submitting a gorgeous Cleveland, Ohio warehouse wedding we photographed a few weeks ago that had some memorable details. The details were elegant and personal featuring some owned and reclaimed items that made the warehouse sparkle. The bride, Raquel brought elements from her own home to create a comfortable space. The warehouse was adorned with vintage furniture, wine barrels, a giant handwritten chalk board seating chart and even a real street postbox to collect cards. Most of the table details were handmade by the bride. Raquel + Steve met in college, got engaged while living in Manhattan and had their wedding in downtown Cleveland, they’re a gorgeous couple with an elegant, timeless style… with a little bit of flair and edge.

Chagrin Falls Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Hunter Photographic

Today’s couple had a specific vision in mind — vintage style with a touch of Southern charm. Thanks to a generous heaping of peach and apricot tones, deep plum, and of course some gold here and there, Katie and Joe achieved their classic vision with the help of Hunter Photographic, A Charming Fête, and Lowe’s Greenhouse. One touch we love – the couple displayed their engagement story on a kraft paper scroll at the reception!

From the bride, Katie: We were looking for a vintage style with a touch of southern charm. We wanted an intimate feel with our guests. Our color scheme was plum with peach/apricot. I feel that most everything was vintage and elegant.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Remember the wedding is about the 2 of you. No matter how mad friends and family make you with their demands, ideas and actions, just remember it all comes down to you two and the commitment you are making to one another and the beautiful life you are starting together.

From the photographer, Hunter of Hunter Photographic: We worked with our beautiful couple Katie and Joe for over a year to help bring their vision to life of a natural, yet elegant, highly personalized wedding. Contrasting shades of peach and apricot were incorporated with rich lilac and plums, all fully accented with lush greenery. The end result was a beautiful timeless affair, full of carefully designed details that reflect both their love story and personal style. And of course, a few gilded details for a hint of elegance. The Club at Hillbrook, a historic tudor mansion with stunning natural surroundings and stone winding paths, provided the perfect setting as well as the indoor/outdoor space that Katie and Joe wanted. We worked with the florist to construct a gorgeous ceremony arch draped with 30 ft. long greenery garlands, bright floral groups, and flowing fabric to serve as the perfect backdrop for the outdoor ceremony. The floral design was such a huge part of this wedding. From Katie’s massive peach and cream bouquet with tousled vines to her maids loose and slightly asymmetric plum bundles, no detail was overlooked. Inside the reception space, recycled wood farm tables were lined with lush greenery garlands and pops of florals, candles and vintage compotes filled with freshly picked plums and apricots. Classic floral china chargers sat beside simple flatware tied perfectly with a snip of apricot velvet ribbon for a bit of rich texture. Custom menus were designed for the couple featuring a small silhouette of their two beloved black Chihuahuas, facing nose-to-nose. Custom toss pillows were also made for the vintage lounge area to reflect their fourlegged friends. The story of their engagement at Kilkenny Castle in Ireland was scribed onto a sheet of oversized kraft paper and displayed at cocktail hour beside Irish love knot handkerchiefs. We styled the dessert table with vintage green depression era glass plates and piled on the French macarons, cream puffs and Funfetti cake pops (a special request from the groom). The star of the dessert table was a beautifully designed ruffle wedding cake from Hummingbird Bake Shop. The couple also offered signature cocktails to their guests, Moscow mules served in copper mugs (his) and peach bellinis (hers). A cigar bar was setup on one of the outdoor terraces for guests to indulge. Aside from the design aspect, the family details and love witnessed at this wedding were positively unmatched! Beginning with the bride and her lovely maids getting ready in custom embroidered monogram oversized button-ups, while exchanging gifts made from the bride’s grandmother’s wedding gown. A custom engraved pistol (quite proper indeed) was given as a gift from the bride to the groom. Especially important to Katie was a wood table top made by the bride’s grandfather signed by all of the guests in lieu of a traditional guest book. Beyond the carefully planned design and personal details, the tearful moments shared between family and captured mostly on film by Hunter Photographic became an integral part of this wedding story. This is a wedding where you can truly feel the love.

If ever there was a dress to build a wedding theme around, it’s got to be this gold and ivory winner from BHLDN. Kristin and Scott dreamt of a laid-back atmosphere on their big day, and the effortless blend of gold glitter and wood elements helped them realize that dream. Thanks to With Love & Embers and Monica’s Floral Design for your work on this one!

From the bride, Kristin: I really think my BHLDN dress set the tone of our wedding. Once I got that dress, everything else just came together! We wanted the wedding to feel like us – fun, but not over the top. And definitely not cookie-cutter. We wanted a laid-back atmosphere. We spent a lot of time and attention to every detail; we were thrilled with how everything turned out.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Put your foot down where needed. If you have a vision for your day of how it should feel or look- do it!! People can be quick to question your plans or shoot them down. Don’t let them! Also, if you are planning a DIY wedding, get all of your projects done way in advance. I thought I started really early with everything but still found myself stressed two weeks before! Lastly, don’t sweat the small stuff. Things will go wrong BUT everything will come together perfectly.

Century House Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Danielle Poff

Summer is finally starting to wind down a bit, which makes us appreciate relaxed, backyard celebrations like this one from Danielle Poff all the more. After some searching, Alexa and Eric were able to find the perfect venues for the backyard wedding feel they sought, topping the day off with impeccable floral arrangements from The Petal Co..

Century House wedding - photo by Danielle Poff http://ruffledblog.com/century-house-wedding

From the bride, Alexa: We envisioned a backyard wedding feel for our big day but did not have an actual yard to use, so our venue locations were the closest to “backyard” that we could get! We also wanted it to be really relaxed and laid back, more of a party atmosphere. To keep with the summer wedding and light fresh feel we had an adorable lemonade stand as well!

Flower recipe: For the bouquets the flowers used were gardenia branches, feverfew, garden roses, silver brunia and dusty miller. For the hanging macrame pots there were blackberry branches, seeded eucalyptus, garden roses, lemon leaf and mint. Centerpieces at the reception had feverfew, garden roses, mint, seeded eucalyptus, and dusty miller.

We had a color scheme that was mainly used for the bridal party attire and in some of the linens and floral arrangements. Yellow and gray have always been two of my favorite colors so I wanted those to be present in our big day! I wanted my girls to be comfortable so I let them chose any gray dress that they felt the best in! For the guys we kept it casual as well with yellow gingham shirts with cuffed sleeves and loose ties. Summers in Pleasanton are hot so I wanted everyone to feel comfortable! As far as DIY projects go there was quite a few! All of the invitation pats were hand stamped by my husband and me. One of my friends designed the stamps for us and we hand stamped them all! She also designed the program which we turned into a stamp and added a Popsicle stick, and an engagement photo to make a cute fan for guests while they were at the ceremony. The chalkboards at the reception were all done by me and our lotto scratcher favors were in tiny envelopes designed by my friend also.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It sounds cliche but go with your gut! If it’s something you and your fiance want then go for it! at the end of the day, you don’t want to have regrets about things you should have done! I got some flack for my very casual feel of the whole thing including my dress, open seating plan, and laid back approach. Once the wedding day was here though no ones opinions matter! all of our guest had a fabulous time and I couldn’t be more happy about our day! Some advice for the day of, again cliche, but don’t sweat the small stuff! Yes, little things will come up (for example we had flowers that were supposed to go around our cake tiers and the bakery just put them next to the cake) which could have been a problem I stressed about, but know one knew how it was supposed to be anyways and it still looked super cute! Another advice is DO A CAKE SMASH!! I have to say these are some of my favorite pics of our day. Since we did a First Look (also recommended) before the ceremony we already had so many nice and pretty pics so it was really fun to have the crazy pictures with cake on our face!

North Star Ballroom Wedding

Goodness gracious, this wedding dress. I couldn’t imagine a more perfect fit for bride Amanda than this Tadashi Shoji stunner — the vintage-inspired lace, the tiered skirt, and the long sleeves work perfectly against the contrast of her dark hair with shocks of purple. Thank you to Sarah of Hazelwood Photo for her beautiful work here!

North Star Ballroom wedding - photo by Hazelwood Photo http://ruffledblog.com/north-star-ballroom-wedding

From the bride, Amanda: We wanted our wedding to be relaxed but still elegant. I had decided on a vintage theme, but we didn’t want it to go too far in any one direction, so we threw in some tarot card and crystal elements. We wanted our guests to feel taken care of, instead of feeling stiff or uncomfortable. I think the open bar + photobooth really helped everyone settle in!

We envisioned art deco vintage meets summer garden vintage, with a few vegan and art nouveau touches. We used a vintage-pastel color theme (pink/green/cream/white) for the flowers, added a little bit of gold & silver for deco-sparkle, and some black to ground the whole thing. Our invitations echoed the pink ceiling of the ballroom. The only thing we made ourselves was the seating chart, which only involved cutting up color copies of tarot cards and downloading a nice font.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Give yourself plenty of time so that A.) you aren’t restricted by a vendor’s availability, and B.) you can focus on each task individually. Browse vendor profiles and websites to narrow it down to a shortlist of businesses you’d actually like to meet up with. There’s always going to be one more thing you hadn’t thought of, so don’t sweat it if you suddenly have to add a new task onto your list. Brookside Equestrian Wedding

Vintage Weddings

The second our eyes ran over these words, we knew we were in for a visual treat: “Our inspiration — think Notebook, meets Big Fish meets a summer carnival/fair.” So the bride describes her wedding day, and we have to say from looking through these images that she absolutely nailed her vision. Valentina Glidden Photography was on hand to capture all the goodness and details, so let’s jump in!

Brookside Equestrian wedding - photo by Valentina Glidden Photography http://ruffledblog.com/brookside-equestrian-wedding

From the bride, Lisa: We were determined to make our wedding stand out from any other wedding! We wanted it to be unique, fun and to not feel so “wedding-ish.” Our inspiration–think Notebook, meets Big Fish meets a summer carnival/fair. There’s just something so romantic about carnivals, and what we imagined one to be like in the 1940s era. The lights, the music, the care-free summer nights and of course, riding the ferris wheel with your sweet heart!

Flower recipe: My aunt, who is a florist created all of our floral looks. She did all of the arrangements, bouquets, embellishments and flower crowns for the flower girls. We wanted a charming wild flower look to keep with the summery country vibe. We used Feverfew (miniature daisies) Daisies, Craspedia, Baby’s Breath, Dusty Miller, Yarrow, Scabiosa Pods and Solidaster.

Being that our wedding was a vintage carnival, we wanted it feel light, airy and fun. We wanted it to have the perfect balance of a carnival yet feel romantic, rustic and whimsical. Our general colors were muted reds, blues and yellows but we weren’t big on having everything matchy, matchy . We pretty much hand crafted most everything ourselves. Jake is a graphic designer so we were able to custom design our save the dates, invitations, programs and favors. Most all of the detail and décor we did ourselves too–DIY projects and antique store finds. My mom and I sewed fabric bunting flags and ribbon streamers. My dad helped with the construction projects such as collecting old scrapped wood which we painted and drilled to make signs as well as light up marquee letters from metal. We built a kissing booth that I hand painted for our guests to take photos in. I also constructed our cake topper and even designed my own wedding dress and had it hand made! My mom made the flower girl’s dresses and an assortment of over 2,000 homemade cookies for our “sweet treats” table. You can definitely say our wedding screamed DIY! We also hired a caricaturist to create caricaturists for our guests as a fun souvenir. But our favorite part—the ferris wheel! We knew if we wanted our look to feel authentic, we needed to have a ferris wheel which we rented from a local event company. It tied everything together and the guests just loved it! The open space of the venue with the oak trees, old barn and charming character created the perfect setting for our event and pulled everything together.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I’d say first things first, decide on the look or theme you are going for and let it resonate. That was the best thing we did. We decided on our look right away and spent a lot of time exploring flea markets, antique shops and etsy for the perfect ideas and accents. The more time you have to think about it, the easier it will come together and the more time you will have to make it work. Plus it’s a lot less stressful! Also, don’t be afraid to take a risk! If you love something, find a way to incorporate it into your wedding. It will make it the planning fun as well as your day that much more special.

Black Rock Resort Wedding

Beach Weddings

So many words come to mind when viewing this wedding – hip, relaxed, intimate, in tune with nature, and most of all – just plain cool. April and Clarke originally planned a lavish wedding with 500 guests before completely rerouting their vision to a 28-person semi-elopement on the beach. I’d have to say they made the right move, because the result is nothing short of breathtaking. Thank you to Shari + Mike Photographers and Celsia Floral for your beautiful work on this one!

From the bride, April: I always envisioned a more polished, glam version of an outdoor garden party. We knew we wanted to be near forest and the water as we are both outdoorsy. We didn’t want a huge production with neon lights, satin, crystals and ballrooms. We stuck to a neutral palette of creams, blush, peach, greens and brass/gold.

Flower recipe: I don’t know all of the actual flowers that went into my bouquet but I gave the very talented Tahnee of Celsia Flowers a list of flowers I wanted and that I wanted a wildflower-esque, organic/natural looking. Colour scheme of pinks, peaches, corals and greenery/foliage. Preferred blooms which could be available: peonies, ranunculus, anemones, garden roses, lavender, dusty miller, lily of the valley, foliage.

I created the dream catchers with willow branches from home (Yellowknife, NT, Canada) to which we ruggedly tied with yarn in the theme colours. I also had ordered these beautiful blush coloured feathers off Etsy and I sprinkled the tips with a fine rose gold glitter mix I made. We made two curtain backdrops for the wedding dinner, one was made of different sized gold paper disks we just glued back to back onto string – turned out very glamourous and added a polished element to the dark grey/dramatic surroundings of the Wine Cellar we were in. The second backdrop was made with a mixture of locally picked greenery, gold discs and the blush feathers. We hung a banner with our names in front of it by Rifle Paper Co.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Do what you want to do and don’t feel bad for doing it! We went from a local 500 person wedding to a very small destination, semi-elopement style beach/forest wedding of 28 people. Sure there were a few people who didn’t understand but at the end of the day, it’s YOUR day and YOU’RE going to need to look back at it in 20 years and you can either have regrets or beautiful, true-to-yourself memories. And delegate, delegate, delegate!

Wedding Music:
Well the original plan was for my brother in law (groomsman) to pull out the guitar from behind his back to play an instrumental Blackbird by the Beatles while I walked down the aisle. But since we ended up with our semi-elopement plan, we didn’t have any bridesmaids or groomsmen up with us and we had a completely natural ceremony with no music – just the sound of the ocean waves! In the hustle of the wedding day, we all forgot our iPods so we didn’t have a set playlist for the wedding dinner and we ended up listening to some Spanish guitar during dinner. We didn’t have a first dance as we wanted to keep the dinner very simple, like a big family dinner… albeit a very glamourous one! But if we were to have our first dance it would have been to “Holocene” by Bon Iver.

Kansas City Loft Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Every time we see a wedding from Steven Michael Photography, we’re constantly in awe of his incredible images. Susan and Brandt’s Kansas City loft wedding was full of classic touches of pink, green, and white, and effortlessly blended classic elegance in an industrial setting thanks to the talents of Eco-Posh Events and Shackelford Botanical Design.

Kansas City loft wedding - photo by Steven Michael Photography http://ruffledblog.com/kansas-city-loft-wedding

From the bride, Susan: From the beginning, we knew that we wanted our wedding day to be relaxed, stress-free and a simple celebration of our love. It was important to us that we enjoy each and every moment and just have fun! That meant not having any aspect of the day be too formal and putting our focus into playing music reminiscent of our early relationship, dancing, delicious food that everyone could enjoy (we offered vegan, vegetarian and meat options to make all guests feel comfortable) and wine from some of our favorite California wineries. At the beginning, we did not have a theme in mind, but as we started making decisions on the venue, flowers, food and decor, everything fell into place. I couldn’t believe how it all came together in the end. Everyone told me that would happen, but it was hard to believe until I saw it for myself. The moment that I walked into our reception venue and saw all of the small pieces put together, I almost cried… it was perfect!

I loved the idea of using chalkboards for signage. We had a hard time finding chalkboards that were the size and look that we wanted so Brandt decided to make them. He used plywood, trim, stain and chalkboard paint all purchased at a home improvement store and built them within a matter of hours. It was exactly what we had in mind! We told Aimee Brodbeck (the signage designer) the theme for our day and she was able to come up with the seating chart, guest book sign, “bride” and “groom” chair signs and name/date sign designs. We loved the way everything turned out! She also made our place cards. The initial wreaths were handmade by the groom’s mother using wooden letters, ribbon and moss from a craft store. Very easy to make! We used clear, empty wine bottles with a slit in the cork (and backs of leftover invitations) for table numbers. We glued two invitations together and printed the numbers on the back. They actually came out better than expected.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? When we first got engaged, we got a lot of questions about what the theme of of our wedding would be. I could never answer that question because I didn’t know. Our advice is for couples is to decide on the venue (pick something that feels true to the relationship) and then start making small decisions one at a time. Even by picking a style of cake that you like, you can start to guide yourself in a style direction that is right for you. Also, once you make a decision, don’t second guess yourself. You will always see something different that you could have done, but go with your first instinct and then lock it in. If you keep changing style decisions, you may always be questioning what you could have done differently!

Romantic Hickory Street Annex Wedding

Romantic Weddings

This wedding has so much to love, so you better start preparing yourself right now. Apryl Ann Photography and Blue Lotus worked to make Danielle and Benjamin’s wedding day a magical event, and it’s a no-brainer to say they had total success. Truly, how stunning is that ceremony setup?

From the bride, Danielle: I had always envisioned a jazz band at my wedding so I kind of built the theme around that. It had an inviting classic elegance about it that really did make the whole night magical! The classic elements were subtle: skinny black ties and slim fitting suits, lace, the font on the invitations, twinkle lights and music choice. The venue, food, flowers and lighting made it feel very relaxed and accessible.

I told my bridesmaids to choose a dress in the neutral color palette (nude, blush, tan, cream, gold or silver). I really liked the way metallics looked with the neutral colors! It felt like winter without being Christmasy. The flowers gave the needed pop of color. My good friend Krista made the lace runner for the head table. My mom, sisters and I potted the individual succulents for each place setting as the wedding favor. Most everything else was outsourced as I planned the wedding from out of state haha!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? 1. Don’t take out wedding stress on your fiance!!! The whole process is very taxing but it only makes things 10x worse if your relationship suffers for it. 2. Don’t procrastinate. Just don’t do it! 3. Delegate. It was really hard for me to do this. I was planning a wedding in Texas from North Carolina so I needed to trust my friends and family to handle things for me but it was really hard to give up control of every little detail. They were perfectly capable and did an amazing job, but I would have been a lot more relaxed if I had delegated more. You will drive yourself crazy if you don’t let people help you! I was even worried my fiance would put the stamps on the invitation crooked so I let him seal them but I put the stamps on haha! I promise I wasn’t a Bridezilla, just a little neurotic :).

Half Moon Bay California Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Jen Rodriguez

If there’s one thing I’ve learned today, it’s that when Jen Rodriguez, Ambrini Events and Alena Jean come together, they create wedding magic. Katie and Geoff’s wedding in Half Moon Bay, CA is truly a sight to behold, and we absolutely love that the day was full of games and surprises for the guests in attendance!

From the bride, Katie: Our venue was such a unique setting that we really didn’t need to bring too much to add to the style. What details we did bring in we wanted to feel romantic and rustic in the midst of such a fun backdrop. We wanted simple centerpieces so went with white and blush single stem flowers in small, clear and gold vases. My mom, sister, and bridesmaid helped me to arrange the flowers the day before the wedding. I collected a lot of bottles and vases throughout the year, some of which I spray painted gold to mix in.

I loved the gold chevron table runners that I found at Paper Source, so I typed the escort cards on tags and stamped them with a gold chevron pattern to tie that theme together. I used tiny gold clothes pins to string them from a vintage map of California that I found at a flea market. We numbered the tables using water bottles with stamped heart tags. For every DIY thing we did for the wedding, there’s no way we could have done it all ourselves. Family, friends, and day of planners truly helped to tie our vision together.

Brooksville Florida Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

We couldn’t love this Southern wedding more if we tried. A truly romantic day with a relaxed atmosphere full of love and laughter, Cara and Travis’ wedding day is one we truly wish we could have seen in person. Our thanks go out to the incredible team of Papered Heart Photography, Dairing Events, and The Anti Bride for helping put this together!

Brooksville Florida wedding - photo by Papered Heart Photography http://ruffledblog.com/brooksville-florida-wedding

From the bride, Cara: Our wedding was very laid back while still being completely romantic… it was intimate even with a large number of people. We wanted everyone to feel at home and a part of the family. Music is something that we are both extremely passionate about, so we kind of had a bit of a music festival feel. With 3 bands and a DJ, we just wanted everyone to leave our wedding and say “man, THAT was a blast.”

When we told her that the venue was on our family’s farm, she was so excited to have the chance to forage the natural surroundings while also including our favorite blooms. We used succulents, anemones, garden roses, eucalyptus, dusty miller and tons of greenery, some of which were picked from the side of the road!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be who you are. If you’re planning a wedding, I’m sure you’ve heard “it’s about you” a hundred times by now. But I honestly cannot stress that enough. Looking back on your day and remembering looking in to the eyes of the person you choose for the rest of your life is unmatched. Remember those moments. Plan your wedding as a direct reflection of the love you share.

Wedding Music:
Bridesmaids’ Processional: “Blackbird,” The Beatles
Bride’s Processional: “Little Martha,” The Allman Brothers Band
Recessional: “Here Comes the Sun,” The Beatles
First Dance: “Blue Sky,” The Allman Brothers Band
Our friend and amazing local Jacksonville musician Nicholas Williams aka Whetherman played the most beautiful ceremony music. While the guests were being seated, he played his gorgeous original songs. Obviously The Allman Bros are our favorite band. Travis proposed to me at Wanee music festival during the Allman Bros live performance of “Blue Sky”. It had to be our first dance! One of our favorite things about the wedding was being able to have one of our favorite musicians, Zach Deputy, play at our reception. He even passed out CDs of his set afterwards!
