Los Osos Engagement Session

Engagement Sessions

Danielle Poff

Danielle Poff, what you’re able to do with engagement sessions never ceases to amaze me. Today we’ve got a darling proposal story to accompany some of the most romantic images we’ve seen, taken where else but in picturesque San Luis Obispo, California. If you’ve got an engagement session coming up (or just love looking at pretty images), this shoot is sure to inspire:

Los Osos engagement session - photo by Danielle Poff http://ruffledblog.com/los-osos-engagement-session

From the bride-to-be, Kourtnie: Nathan and I were introduced by a mutual friend years ago, but it wasn’t until we ran into each other out of town 3 years ago that we randomly hit it off and something sparked. For the earlier part of our relationship I lived in Chicago and he visited me every few weeks until I made the move out to Southern California so we could be closer. I never saw the the engagement coming which was so incredibly special because I love surprises, and he knows that. We were out in Chicago on vacation and spending the day with friends. Nathan had a date planned that evening that he called a surprise, which I thought nothing of since he’s always planned little dates in the past. We got all dressed up and he took me for a walk down on Lake Michigan- the same route we took on a walk the very first trip he came out to visit me – a memory that was very special to both of us. Eventually he dropped down on one knee and I honestly didn’t see it coming until it happened. He had a photographer nearby that caught everything on camera. I just about died… couldn’t believe all of the thought he put in it!

For the engagement shoot we were definitely set on something very scenic and outdoorsy, since we had the city-based pictures from our proposal. We wanted to find a setting that was woodsy with greenery and trees and also something near the water – but not the typical beach and sand backdrop you see all the time. With helpful tips from our wedding photographer, we decided on Montana de Oro state beach which is on the Pacific Ocean but is unique in that there are several cliff and rock areas that make for great scenery. For the woodsy option, we chose Los Osos Reserve (tree park). We had so much fun at our shoot! Outfits were selected with the mindset of seeming casual and along the lines with something we would wear any day of the week. We definitely made an effort to make sure we wore colors that complimented each other and weren’t too match-y.

Bohemian Winter Glam Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Danielle Poff

When Zest It Up get their hands on an event, they work magic – that’s just a fact. For this bohemian styled shoot with Danielle Poff, they envisioned a woodland elopement filled with deep pinky-reds, metallic, and a mix of greys that just so happened to result in a photo shoot that’s as inspired as it is beautiful to look at.

From the stylists, Zest It Up: What is more magical than the sparkle of love and the promise of things to come found in the quiet beauty of winter. Caught in the moment just before the loud ruckus of Spring, our models, Jessica and Tyler, are romanced by the hushed tones of the forest. Danielle Capito Photography beautifully captured the spirit of this quiet moment stuck in the clash between the hush of earthy greys and the decibels of shimmering glitter. Danielle focused her lens and use of light in a manner that coaxed the intimate romance of this clandestine celebration.

The details were set by the expert eyes of Zest it Up, a design and catering company located on the Central Coast. Creating a moment worthy of a spritely princess, Zest it Up set a lush table with a woven metal tablecloth from the street markets of Saudi Arabia. The gold chargers were set with mercury glass plates and gold geometric designs. The woodland environ was whispered into the design with feather details and a unique chandelier of grapevines, willow branches and crystal made by Samantha and Chanda of Zest it Up. With candlelight overhead, Jessica and Tyler were cozy with silvery faux mink throws to keep them warm as the minutes ticked by in this wintery woodland.

Festive Designs heightened the romance and drama of the table with the subdued but dramatic colors of their floral arrangements. Highlighting the use of color with texture, they used feathers, seed pods and berries of various flora, wintery foliage, twigs, and deeply romantic roses mixed with astilbe and otherworldly pomegranates. Using mercury glass and lanterns with Moroccan overtones, Festive Designs coaxed even more ethereal beauty out of their designs.

Zest it Up continued the spritely magic with a rope-suspended dessert table adorned with caramel encrusted croquembouche and a flambe cake. The glittering mesh stars and Spanish moss draping the tree canopy were sublime touches of enchantment. Donning threads from Urban Outfitters, Change of a Dress Consignment Boutique and Free People, Jessica felt extra glamorous with all the delicate beauties created by Baxter Moerman Jewelry. From stacking rings reminiscent of will o’ the wisp, to bolder statement pieces like a geometric necklace and grey pearls, Baxter Moerman Jewelry bedazzled our quiet moment in the oak forest.

Could it be possible for me to love this shoot from Danielle Capito Photography and Danae Grace Events any more? Not a chance. The pink trailer rented from Candice Cleary of The Face and Body Shoppe is simply the icing on the bohemian wedding cake!

From the designer, Danae Grace: Being a designer, I am constantly looking for inspiration anywhere. After visiting Candice Cleary’s The Face and Body Shoppe in San Luis Obispo, my mind was filled with ideas and creativity to design a inspiration shoot based around the color palettes and texture in her studio as well as her adorable pink trailer. My concept was “Fresh” keeping things simple with a sophisticated “Free People” look focusing on amazing styling with playful elements. Using a collection of blooms consisting of Lavender, Dahlias, Cafe Au Lait, and Peonies we designed the floral headpieces and arrangements to tie everything together as the final touches.

Kate Spade Inspired Wedding Ideas

The very second we saw this shoot from Danielle Capito Photography and Michaela Noelle Designs, we knew it wouldn’t be fair to keep you all from seeing its beauty. Michaela describes the shoot as “succulents meet Kate Spade brights,” which to us represents the perfect blend of masculine and feminine at Santa Barbara’s Historical Museum.

From the stylist, Michaela: From the moment I heard Danielle mention she wanted to photograph an inspiration shoot full of funky and natural elements, I couldn’t stop dreaming up this succulent-meets-Kate Spade-brights decor. Interior design being my first love, and DIYing everything in sight being a close second, I’ve always loved mixing styles and creating unique details people won’t soon forget. With the gorgeous, teak wood tables and succulents acting as our natural element and the hot pink serving as our funky, yet feminine punch of color, this look became a setting I could envision guests completely enjoying themselves at an afternoon wedding. The Santa Barbara Historical Museum was the perfect backdrop as it boasts beautiful natural brick, a pretty water feature and green ivy, cacti and flowers galore.

This is a look that anyone can achieve, and the crafty brides-to-be will especially love the unique touches. The recipe is simple: Clear glass plates with a patterned plate on top, bright flowers in a funky vase, gold flatware, a variety of glassware, and some colorful cacti for the table top. The baby succulents serve as the name card holders and the guest’s favor. Desiring to keep the feel casual, we created a delectable dessert table featuring an exposed layer cake, fruit tarts and Kate Spade-esque gold cake pops. The bride’s gown, headpiece and bouquet truly epitomize the inspiration shoot’s heart and soul: bohemian sophistication, with an unexpected twist.

Indie darlings meet glitzy cocktail glam in this styled shoot from Davia Lee Events and Danielle Capito. We love the striped altar canopy the crafted tent for the bride and groom to share their first meal in newlywedded bliss. And of course, we can’t forget the presence of one of our favorite flowers of all time, the dahlia, in the arrangements by Twigss Floral Studio!

indie bride and groom

From the event stylist, Davia of Davia Lee Events: Inspired by fashion & a unique take on retro fashion, this isn’t your average wedding. It is a fun, carefree cocktail style wedding with a classic backdrop and unexpected details. This bride loves fashion, jewels, glitter & sparkle! Her love for funky fashion with a classic take was the inspiration behind her dream cocktail wedding.

She knew she wanted to walk down the aisle in a short 1950’s dress, her pink pumps, spring jewelry & a bright bouquet of fresh blooms. Her bridesmaids would be in black cocktail dresses with a bit of sparkle in their shoes. For a fresh take on the ceremony set up, she was drawn towards color blocking, oversized paper flowers, classic stripes and a breathtaking view. Cocktail hour would then take place on the incredibly landscaped lawn with perfectly placed cocktail trays and white lounge furniture. We wanted to create an intimate sweetheart table where the newlyweds could hide in to steal a few kisses.

The black & white striped backdrop gave a fun graphic pop to the background without taking away from the glamorous linen topped with playful floral arrangements. The Mr. & Mrs. plates serve as a fun place card that the couple can always keep as a reminder of their special day. The bulb chandelier & paper flowers add an element that you might not expect & brings in the personality of the couple. The cake created for this couple is beyond unique! It is the perfect combination of her classic style with a fun pop of color! Butler served cocktails and individually plated desserts to each guest were the icing on the cake & the end to a perfect day!

Library Halloween Wedding Ideas

If anything, Halloween is known for being the most dramatic of holidays — full of rich colors, elegant costume, and packed with imagination. When Danielle Capito Photography and Twigss Floral Studio collaborated for a Halloween shoot, they knew they wanted to develop some ideas outside the box, and we love that they approached the holiday with a Victorian aesthetic in mind!

From the florists Melissa and Addison of Twigss Floral Studio: We know that a lot of brides don’t fit into the “traditional” category and what is more unique and different than a Halloween wedding? With this shoot we wanted to show brides that it is completely okay to be non-traditional when it comes to your wedding, the most important thing about your wedding is that it reflects you as a couple! We liked the idea of switching it up when it came to Cristina’s wedding attire, we started her off in a full length lace black gown and then put her in a creamy white sequined shorter dresses for her getaway outfit.

Instead of a wedding cake we did mini treats, cheeses and fruits with rustic bread. In our shoot we wanted to bring in the elements of the dark and hard lifestyle of the 20‘s and also add a few touches of that very stuffy luxurious life style 1900s. So we decided to turn our studio into a Victorian home and stage the wedding in the man of the house’s dark library study. We imagined him to be a smart man yet slightly eccentric, interested in many things and it shows by the items he keeps. We littered the desk and shelves with creepy botanical and scientific findings, maps, and pages of books scattered on the floor.

To add a really spooky element we not only scattered book pages on the floor we swept them up the walls so it looked like there were some unnatural forces in the study. We used very interesting foliage like begonia leafs, ferns, black calla lilies and lady slippers to add a touch of creepy and dark into the bridal bouquet and through out the rest of the shoot. This time of year is a great time to have a darker styled wedding, the colors that are available in flowers are dark and there are a lot of interesting fruits and berries to incorporate and add texture.
