Brightly Colorful Sequined Wedding

Modern Weddings

Maybe it’s a girly girl’s thing, but we can never have enough glam, gold, or sequins and we’re so thrilled this A.J. Dunlap Photography wedding came our way. Kast Events and crew worked their magic all over the modern venue and transformed it into a shining spectacle. Eclectic Sage certainly stopped the show with those elaborate and gorgeous floral arrangements. In every bright color you could think of or imagine, the blooms worked so well against all of the sequined decor. Shout out to the bride’s floral crown, especially; it’s so divine!

From the photographer, A.J. Dunlap PhotographyThe pops of color, sparkly sequin and the happy couple that fill this wedding will make you smile from ear to ear. The bride wanted a glamorous and colorful wedding day, and she got just that! The ceremony was set on a theater style stage with a gold and silver paper chain background that was breathtaking. Match that with the mismatched floral bridesmaid gowns & flower crowns, and you had one gorgeous wedding.

The reception was so unique & again full of color! The pink peony and succulent centerpieces popped against the gold sequin table runners that adorned the family style tables. With unique touches everywhere like the Polaroid place cards and brownie tower wedding cake, it was a day not soon forgotten!

Who says bridesmaids have to match, in dress style, color, or otherwise? We say to branch out and have them throw on a wide array of styles and colors that suit your wedding tastes. Prints are a huge trend right now for bridesmaids’ dresses and they’re such a hit. Oh and who says they have to be dresses? We love the new jumpsuit idea, too!

Fun Nautical Inspired Vow Renewal

Wedding Design

This vow renewal is chock-full of sweetness, and I don’t just means all of the heaps and heaps of delicious desserts! Megan and Brent of Studio Castillero captured Melissa (of Melissa Biador Photography) and Nio’s day and love beautifully, along with the fantastic DIY creations the couple tackled, the to-die-for dessert bar, and those florals! Can we talk about the designs Penny Blooms did? I love Melissa’s eclectic bouquet and all of those eye-catching colors and blooms, from the dainty lilacs to the single magenta rose. Keeping it simple, the couple opted for centerpieces that offered table space while also adding uniqueness and their own spin to the wedding through glittered table numbers, long-necked vases with small bundles of flowers, and the highlight of their centerpieces: the names of US Naval ships tucked in.

Fun Nautical Inspired Vow Renewal - photo by Studio Castillero http://ruffledblog.com/fun-nautical-inspired-vow-renewal

From the bride, Melissa: My husband and I renewed our vows since we had an intimate ceremony about 8 years ago. Our renewal embraced our personalities as a married couple… from the nautical decor (representing my husband’s career in the Navy) and the feminine, fun details. Our colors were coral, mint, cream and blush pink with a touch of glitter and gold. We had many personal touches to our renewal. My husband wore his dress blues during the first part of the day our groomsmen wore casual attire and a handmade bow tie made by my cousin. The bridesmaids had different dresses that fit their personal style and each wore a statement necklace as a gift from me.

Mermaid Bride Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Mermaids are all the rage right now. Now that warm weather has dawned (for most of us!), the coral pinks and seafoam greens are ideal for the coming seasons. While I have seen an increase in mermaid trends, I haven’t seen them used for weddings or wedding inspiration until now! Chickadee Events and Virginia Ashley Photography certainly put their hard work into this shoot, and I love that the mermaid inspiration really comes through in such an elegant way. The Proper Petal added to the feel by using bright colors in the table blooms with small vases filled with solo stems of flowers; my favorite being those beautiful orchids. Topping it off, of course, was the mermaid silhouette wedding dress that stole the whole show.

mermaid bride wedding inspiration - photo by Virginia Ashley Photography http://ruffledblog.com/mermaid-bride-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Virginia Ashley Photography: When planning the styled shoot, I wanted to go for something mermaid-like! I have been refining my brand and what I want my style to reflect. I wanted this shoot to be a great reflection of my new brand and the type of couples I love! I was thankful for the sweet couple I had for this shoot! Gabrielle was the perfect mermaid inspiration and looked like a dream in the wedding dress!

Chic Austin Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

When a wedding party kicks off with a mariachi band and food trucks, you know you’re in for a good time. This was exactly the case for Amy and Bob’s wedding, whose Austin celebration is full of so many whimsical details and a grey lace gown you’ll fall head over heels for. Thank you to Julie Wilhite Photography, CLINK, and Merveille Events for your parts in this beautiful day!

chic Austin wedding - photo by Julie Wilhite Photography http://ruffledblog.com/eclectic-outdoor-texas-wedding

Amy and Bob got married last October at the beautiful Laguna Gloria, a contemporary art museum in Austin, TX. From the start, they wanted to make their wedding unique and something their guests would truly enjoy. The ceremony was held in the amphitheater and it could not have been a more perfect day for these two to get married. As Amy’s sisters walked her down the aisle to “Ho Hey” by The Lumineers, the entire group went silent. It was a moment no one will ever forget! Afterwards, guests were greeted into cocktail hour by Mariachis, Peached Tortilla’s food truck and passion fruit signature cocktails being passed to all.

Modern Rustic Elegance Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Desi Baytan

No matter how many times we stare at the reception space in today’s wedding, we can’t help feeling like we’ve stepped into a dream. Whitney and Jason married in California, bringing some of the charm of the outdoors inside while also infusing rustic elements with a modern feel. Thank you to Desi Baytan and Modern LA Weddings for bringing everything together!

modern rustic elegance wedding - photo by Desi Baytan http://ruffledblog.com/modern-rustic-elegance-wedding

From the event designers, Modern LA Weddings: For Whitney & Jason’s wedding, our goal was to design a wedding characterized as modern rustic chic. Our challenge was to create an elevated take on the notion of outdoor charm – rustic without compromising refinement. The entire design story of the wedding is essentially a harmonious dialogue between rustic and elegant aesthetics. We came up with the concept of Restoration Hardware meets Equestrian Elegance. When I think of modern rustic, I immediately think of the wooden, metal, and organic textures found in a Restoration Hardware catalogue. We took these masculine textures and brought them softness and beauty through florals, fabrics, and colors.

Spanish Bohemian Beach Inspiration

Wedding Design

Romantic weddings on the beach — they’ll never cease to make our hearts swell. Today’s styled shoot comes all the way from Spain, where a talented team including Charlotte van den Berg, Love & Memories, and Flors Bahí put together this beautiful boho inspired wedding on the beaches of Costa Brava. Wait until you sneak a peek of the incredible cake!

Spanish bohemian beach inspiration - photo by Charlotte van den Berg http://ruffledblog.com/spanish-bohemian-beach-inspiration

From the event designers, Love & Memories: On Tuesday, the 6th of October 2015, we set up a styled shoot in Spain at the Costa Brava. We named the styled shoot “Boho at the Beach”. We really love the bohemian style and we really thought it could be a very nice setting. So, we had to think of something unique. By getting inspiration and being creative, we started to come up with ideas that combine new trends and our own style. The colours we chose for this shoot were mainly stonewashed green and coral combined with soft pink and white.

Stylish Wedding in Toronto

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

A Brit & A Blonde

We love a couple that just has fun on their wedding day, and judging by these images from A Brit & A Blonde, tons of fun was had on Adrienne and Sean’s big day. Surrounded by gorgeous floral arrangements by Botany Floral Studio and sweet handcrafted details like the custom blueberry favors, this wedding is bound to inspire!

stylish wedding in Toronto - photo by A Brit and A Blonde http://ruffledblog.com/stylish-wedding-in-toronto

From the bride, Adrienne: Because we got married in October (in Canada), we knew it would be cold, but hopefully sunny. I wanted to incorporate clean, crisp elegance with earthy, fall elements. The colors were reflective of a fall evening with a bit of black and white glamour, lots of lush greenery, rustic twigs, shimmering metallics and warm blush and coral tones.

Flower recipe: I wanted lots of cascading greenery and natural, imperfect arrangements. They contained black and white anemones, peonies, English roses, dahlias, and rununculus.

There were some cardboard letters with our initials and the word LOVE strung on the wall that my mom and sister and I made into ‘living gardens’ by filling them with flowers and greenery. Sean (groom’s) family is from Eastern Canada where blueberries grow wild. They picked and made jam for us for our favors.

First Dance: “Colors,” Amos Lee

From the photographer, A Brit & A Blonde: Adrienne is one of the coolest brides ever. With her amazing short pixie cut that she rocked with such a rock n’ roll chic vibe. Her gorgeous Vera Wang dress was paired with a leather jacket for some photos when it got a lil cold out. Adrienne and Sean said their I do’s in October – right when all the fall leaves were changing colour. Which made for some really gorgeous colours in the backdrop. They chose the Evergreen Brickworks in downtown Toronto for their I do’s. Adrienne is from the west coast and Sean is from the east coast of Canada. Sean’s sister actually made the arbour where they said their I do’s. Using wood and rope to symbolize the sailors of the east and the cattlemen of the west. It was a really perfect touch which meant so much to the couple. The ceremony took place outdoors – we adore the florals on the chairs they looked incredible. Adrienne DIY’d the floral letters with their initials as well as the word LOVE. They offered hand tied jam jars from Newfoundland where Sean is from – as wedding favours for their guests. There was no sit down meal – it was food stations and delicious spreads of cheese and charcuterie that guests could indulge in. The reception was decorated with rustic and glam elements. The florals were beyond perfection.

Electric Love Chicago Wedding Shoot

Wedding Design

Who doesn’t love being surrounded by bright colors and confetti? Today’s vibrant shoot comes from Ed and Aileen Photography, It’s All Happening Events and The Bread and Butterfly. These talented vendors certainly know how to customize a venue. These bright pops of coral and yellow will make you long for spring!

electric love Chicago wedding shoot - photo by Ed and Aileen Photography http://ruffledblog.com/electric-love-chicago-wedding-shoot

From the event designer, It’s All Happening Events: Our Electric Love styled shoot was inspired by two favorites of ours: neon signs and great dance parties. Our ideal clients are bold and not afraid to break tradition a little, so we wanted to showcase our ability to create a modern vibe while using a neon color palette, proving that a fun wedding can still be romantic and elegant. The venue, Room 1520, was a perfect contrast to the bright pops of pink and yellow with it’s endless white walls and industrial feel.

The bride’s look was relaxed and fun but still glam – we wanted her hair to have an edgy vibe to contrast the romantic flowing Elie Saab gown, tied together with a hot pink lip and Debbie Petrelli totally nailed it. We also designed the tablescape with the same mindset – simple, romantic, and fun – and it came together perfectly with florals by Carolyn at the Bread and Butterfly and printed materials by Ari at Chykolphia Designs.

Coral Wedding with a Flower Ceremony Backdrop

Romantic Weddings

Who doesn’t need a nice dose of bright colors in winter? Allison and Chris’ whimsical wedding uses a color palette of coral and grey with a beautiful array of flowers and succulents, including dahlias, garden roses, and craspedia. Artistrie Co., Life in Bloom, and Midwestern Bride did beautiful work here!

coral wedding with a flower ceremony backdrop - photo by Artistrie Co http://ruffledblog.com/coral-wedding-with-a-flower-ceremony-backdrop

From the photographers, Artistrie Co.: This Rivers Restaurant wedding is what dreams are made of. With floral design by Life in Bloom, make-up by Joanna B Artistry, hair by Debra Petrielli, coordination by Midwestern Bride, and DJ-ing by Toast & Jam, where can you go wrong? That’s a dream team of Chicago wedding vendors if I’ve ever seen one! Add that to a beautiful outdoor setting along the Chicago River, and you have found the most perfectly adorable wedding ever. Allison and Chris’ summer soiree was bright, cheerful and perfectly them.

In honor of it being Sunday, Allison had the most adorable little mimosa bar set up in the hotel room as the ladies got their hair and make-up done. There was even a little sign that said “Sundays are for mimosas” which I couldn’t agree with more. Allison’s bridal suite looked out onto LaSalle Street where the couple would meet to see each other that very afternoon. The bridesmaids dressed in bright coral dresses with aqua blue necklaces and the men donned light gray suits with coral ties — a perfect combination for summer! This wedding party was so much fun to work with as we traveled around the city for portraits. My favorite stop was a bright teal painted building featuring a large mural of a moose blowing bubble gum. The wedding party lined up in front of this mural with their own version of bubble gum which made for one of my favorite photos of the year.

When the wedding party arrived to Rivers Restaurant, the festivities were ready to begin. The ceremony backdrop by Life in Bloom was a showstopper. Allison, Chris and their wedding party stood in front of a soft white curtain featuring floating vases of flowers as the couple exchanged their vows to one another. As I learned during their engagement session, Allison is a self-proclaimed confetti queen. Naturally, she had packets of confetti for each guest to toss as the newlyweds walked hand-in-hand down the aisle. It was a beautiful ceremony! Afterwards the patio transitioned to the dining space for their romantic riverside reception. The patio featured long tables, chevron linens, brightly colored blooms, succulent name cards, and beautifully strung bistro lights. Guests enjoyed the views of the city from along the river as they dined and sipped on the couple’s signature drink: Michigan apple sangria. The whole day was perfect from start to finish.

Mixed Metals Wedding in La Jolla

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Melissa Biador

When I heard “modern, mid-century meets bohemian wedding” and “palette full of blushes, fuchsia, and pops of coral” together in the same sentence, I knew I was in for a real treat, and this wedding from Melissa Biador, Amorology, and Plenty of Petals absolutely did not disappoint. Add in some accents of gold and brass, and you’ve got this richly textured wedding full of totally enviable details that have put it at the top of our favorites list for this year!

mixed metals wedding in La Jolla - photo by Melissa Biador http://ruffledblog.com/mixed-metals-wedding-in-la-jolla

From the event designers, Amorology: Our inspiration for Joanne and Andrew’s dreamy day came from this couple’s love of clouds and sunsets. We infused their modern, mid-century meets bohemian wedding with a palette full of blushes, fuchsia and pops of coral. Accents of gold and brass mixed with vintage glassware topped tables dressed with textured runners. Table numbers floated in golden frames and champagne toasts were poured over delicate clouds of cotton candy in blush coupes.

As a nod to our bride’s love for all things boho, a whimsical macramé piece served as the escort display, complete with gold script and bright, playful florals. Fun lounge pieces including a white peacock chair and a Moroccan rug provided a haven for guests to relax during the evening while the little ones entertained themselves at their very own table, sitting on mini wooden stools. Loved ones left with a sweet homemade treat—delicious cookies created from a special family recipe!

Romantic Peach Wedding at LA Arboretum

Bohemian Weddings

When your inspiration for your wedding day is Anthropologie, it’s a safe bet you’ll be dealing in some seriously eclectic and chic style. That’s the look bride Savannah went for when she married her beau Coleman in Los Angeles, with the talented Joe+Kathrina Photography and Tasteful Tatters in tow. Add in some DIY touches from the bride’s family and friends, and you’ve got this beautiful result!

romantic peach wedding at LA Arboretum - photo by Joe and Kathrina Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-peach-wedding-at-la-arboretum

From the bride, Savannah: I would definitely have to say that Anthropologie inspired the look and feel of my wedding. The Anthropologie brand and style is distinct and easy to identify, which is what I wanted people to think of my wedding; when they walked into our venue and looked around I wanted them to feel my personal style through the entire decor. I wanted each guest to think, “Wow, this feels just like Coleman and Savannah.” Well… who am I kidding? My cowboy husband definitely doesn’t exactly have the Anthropologie style, but you know what I mean, I wanted it to feel like us :) Bold patterns, an artistic feel and a feminine touch, were all things I drew upon from the Anthropologie style.

My wonderful wedding coordinator Emilee Sutherland and her team created these amazing DIY napkins for all of our guests. They were so beautiful and exactly what I wanted. The Tasteful Tatter team also made these to die for cake and pie boxes so that the guests could all take a slice of pie or cake home as their favor. This is just another example of them making my vision come to life, I showed them a picture and they did it! They are incredible. My last name is Lay, like Lay’s potato chips, so as a fun and personal touch we also handed out Lay’s potato chips with a cute tag as another favor. So cheesy, but cute! My cute momma and all of her friends also made individual cakes for each table. This way, when my hubby and I cut the cake, all of our guests were able to cut their cake at the same time. The individual cakes were so beautiful and such a unique touch. It was a perfect way to engage the guests and make them part of the experience.

Wedding Music:
First Dance: “Making Memories of Us,” Keith Urban

From the photographers, Joe+Kathrina Photography: Savannah had told friends, “I’m going to marry a cowboy one day.” As she went off to college little did she know that she’d really meet her cowboy. Enter: Coleman, an actual farmer whose family owns and runs a farming business in Oregon. Friends knew instantly these two were in it for life. While planning a wedding in California, Savannah worked on finishing up school in Boise – which needless to say made it all quite difficult. They were hard set on their June date which made it even more difficult to find the perfect outdoor venue where they could really put their own touches to bring together both their city and country families together. Savannah’s parents really helped find their venue and with Emilee and her team this wedding came together perfectly. There were hints of DIY with romantic flair throughout the day. From each table having their own homemade cake and different cake topper as their centerpieces, plexi glass menus, a thrift found bike with a basket as their escort “table”, a fun pattern as their tablecloth, a large “Love is Patient” decor at their sweetheart table, and of course cowboy boots. We had only been able to meet with Savannah in person before the wedding, which is always nerve racking having to wait until the wedding day to meet the groom but Coleman could not have been more gracious. Watching these two and photographing them together, they were so natural in each others arms. Most of all you could fee; their happiness together. It was a good day.

Bohemian Wedding at Temecula Creek Inn

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Leo Cabal

If the weather is starting to get chillier where you are, the warm color palette of this California wedding will heat you right up. Leo Cabal and Tanner Wendell Stewart were the photographers behind the big day, which was beautifully styled by Ever After Events with absolutely jaw-dropping flowers from Isari Flower Studio. Seriously, the bride’s cascading bouquet? Out of this world.

From the bride, Stephanie: I was going for whimsical and fun and with and elegant feel. I think that came through in the details of the décor. My color were Coral + Gold + Silver. I was going for whimsical and elegant with a lot of handmade details.

So many things were DIY. With the help of my mom, mother-in-law and bridesmaids we painted the feather tips gold, made all the tassels, thrifted the mix match glasses. My mom sewed all the ties for the groomsmen in a black velvet material. She also made my veil and the table squares for the cocktail tables. For the signs, I used old pieces of wood and attached water color paper that I had painted on and my bridesmaid Libby Tipton Spangler did all the calligraphy. We did the same with the table signs. My MOH’s husband made the Tee-Pee photo booth backdrop.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I would advise 2 things. 1. Get a wedding planner earlier than later. They have great connections and can help take care of all the details. Especially on your wedding day, they are the go to person for all the little things that come up, so you can just relax instead of problem solving. 2. Don’t stress about the details. At the end of the day what really matters is the person you are going to spend the rest of your life with and all your family and friends who came to celebrate and have a good time. Be present in the moment and enjoy every minute because before you know it your running through a line of bubbles and the most amazing day has come to an end.

Vibrant Summer Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

If ever there was a gown that deserved its own styled shoot, it has to be this Marchesa beauty. Embellished with beads, shells, pearls, and pops of coral, it stopped us in our tracks the minute we first laid eyes on it. Trini Mai Photography captured every bit of the shoot beautifully, and Flower Allie truly wowed on floral design!

From the photographer, Trini Mai Photography: If I could dream up one word to describe summer, it would be “vibrant.” With a dress so unique that it inspires an entire shoot around it, we set out to capture a bright and happy summer wedding inspiration. Adorned with cheerful coral gems and pretty seashells, it evokes visions of merry days spent on the beach with sunshine on our shoulders and sand between our toes. Add in a charming blue beach house and a row boat covered in summer blooms, this wedding is headed towards total bliss.

Dinner Party Wedding at Brooklyn Winery

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

M2 Photography

Taylor and Jake had a very simple vision for their wedding day: a delicious dinner with loved ones where everyone gets to dress up, dance, and eat cake. What could be more perfect than that? M2 Photography, Square Mile Events, and Designs by Ahn were all brought on board to help out on the big day, and they all worked wonders — though we have to give special credit to the incredible floral design that still has us reeling!

dinner party wedding at Brooklyn Winery - photo by M2 Photography http://ruffledblog.com/dinner-party-wedding-at-brooklyn-winery

From the bride, Taylor: We originally wanted to get married upstate somewhere outdoors, but the travel for our guests felt unnecessary. Jake’s family was flying in from Australia and we wanted our guests to be able to relax once they go to New York and to enjoy the city we love so much. Brooklyn Winery checked off all of our boxes. It was rustic and immediately personal. Every staff member was genuinely excited for us, they felt like an extension of the guests. We wanted to hit that sweet spot of making it comfortable and approachable for us but formal enough that it felt like a wedding. The flowers really made that difference! It was like a great dinner with great food and all your friends and family got to dress up. Our friend Francis Lombardi played original music and covers during the cocktail hour. We are friends from college so to have him play at our wedding and bring everyone together was really sentimental. Then we go to just kick it and dance and laugh and eat cake. It was perfect!

Flower recipe: My bouquet was a mix of sweet pea, astilbe, lisianthus, tuberose, jasmine, passion vine and ranunculus, all in shades of white. The chuppah was made of birch and decorated in hydrangeas, lisianthus, passion vine, dahlia and green vines to coordinate with the winery. The table arrangements were a colorful mix of my bouquet plus dahlias, and the groomsmen wore yellow garden roses to pay respect to the groom’s grandfather who tended and grew garden roses at his home and wore one in his suit everyday.

We really wanted the guests to feel like they had walked into a big house out in the country, where we would be eating from the farm and decorating the space with flowers from the garden. It was full of nostalgia. Oak barrels and repurposed wood from a church was used on the walls to make the space more inviting. In the dining room there is a wall filled with plants to make you feel as though you are outside. It was very romantic and personal. The dance floor was right next to the bar to encourage the guests to mingle and get to know each other.

Wedding Music:
Processional: “The Wedding Song,” Peter Paul and Mary
Recessional: “Pompeii,” Bastille
First Dance: “Latch,” Sam Smith (acoustic)
Music is so important to us. It is something that as a couple we bond over, going to shows, discovering new band, etc… Scratch actually told us that they’d never received so many song requests from a couple before…oopps. I love soul and 90’s hip hop and r&b, he loves alternative rock. We played everything from Kings of Leon, Bruce Springsteen, John Legend, Chaka Khan, NIN, Paramore, Rihanna and all that new fun music like Zedd and Kid Cudi. Then our DJ freestyled with some great club mixes and mashups for the last hour. Things got crazy in a good way! Bring on the dance circles!

From the photographer, Melissa of M2 Photography: Bride and groom both wanted more of a dinner party feel for their wedding, the “anti cookie-cutter wedding” if you will. Taylor is a pastry chef for the world-renowned chef Jean Georges and Jake is a self-described food snob so they knew their wedding had to incorporate an amazing menu and wanted a focus on the food and beverage. One challenge Jake and Taylor faced was figuring out a way to tastefully blend their inter-faith marriage. Taylor is Catholic and Jake is Jewish so they incorporated both a Priest and a Rabbi into their ceremony. Taylor also spent a few minutes privately with her twin sister and parents at their UWS church prior to heading to her wedding. When it came to choosing the location to host their wedding, Taylor wanted to make sure she had more of a hipster-vibe at her wedding in Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Winery was the perfect location. Taylor was adamant about not having a wedding cake at all – until Jean George’s head baker offered to bake her a cake as a wedding gift. Jake’s gift to Taylor was a long weekend trip to Paris. Taylor’s career as a pastry chef has made Paris a dream vacation destination for them both. Flowers: Designs by Ahn used an assortment of orange dahlia and yellow ranunculus as well as Juliet garden roses. Taylor and Jake’s color palette was vibrant yellow and orange flowers as well as cream, blush and pale pink accents. They had a birch wood chuppah decorated with branches, hydrangea, stock, lisianthus passion vine and orange dahlias. Their wedding style aesthetic was fresh, modern and timeless.

A Desert Chic Wedding with Turquoise

Romantic Weddings

A desert wedding with a Mid-Century color palette and a vintage 1950s Chevy in an aquamint hue? Yeah, we’ll take it. This incredible Arizona wedding (photographed by Amy & Jordan Photography and styled by Petal Pusher) ticks all our boxes when it comes to inspiration — especially when it comes to the reception table decor. Just wait until you see it!

a desert chic wedding with turquoise - photo by Amy and Jordan Photography http://ruffledblog.com/a-desert-chic-wedding-with-turquoise

From the photographer, Amy of Amy & Jordan Photography: This wedding had more stunning and unique details, than any wedding we have seen. From the hand delivered succulent invitations, to the eclectic furniture and pillows brought in for cocktail hour, to the solid bronze charges and glass vases filled with real turquoise stones. It was absolutely breath taking and like nothing we have ever seen before! And the emotion and joy of the day was almost as exceptional. All the guests had taken their seats. They were anxiously awaiting a glimpse of a couple so magnetic and so full of life that they’d each been touched by, and couldn’t wait to see two people they loved so much finally tie the knot.

Meghan and Ben had left the icy snow of Chicago and traded it for a day filled with warmth and sunshine, and it just couldn’t have been more fitting for a couple filled with so much love. The guests shielded their eyes from the bright sun as they looked behind them, just as the music started to play. Ben and his boys entered, all donning shades, looking more like the Men in Black than a row of groomsmen, with just as much swag, and as the music got louder, one by one, the ladies came down the aisle, too. But they didn’t walk. They danced. With smiles on their faces and a bounce in their step, each bridesmaid danced down the aisle and made it clear to everyone that this was a celebration. A party. A. Time. For. Fun. The guests arose to see Meghan arm-in-arm with her dad, and as the two of them danced their way to Meghan’s future, there was nothing more perfect in the world.

A Green Pittsburgh Opera Wedding

Romantic Weddings

We absolutely love an industrial venue as much as the next person, but even more so when they’re softened up a bit with warm creams, flirty pinks, and lots of greenery. Ali and Frank’s wedding, captured by Caitlin Thomas Photography and flowered-up to perfection by GreenSinner, blends the industrial with the romantic expertly, and is sure to inspire any couple going after a similar aesthetic!

a green Pittsburgh Opera wedding - photo by Caitlin Thomas Photography http://ruffledblog.com/a-green-pittsburgh-opera-wedding

From the bride, Ali: We really wanted our wedding to feel like an intimate dinner party followed by the ultimate dance party — not an easy thing to do when you have 185 guests, but for us it was more about creating an atmosphere that felt soft, sweet and inclusive despite our large industrial venue. We made use of long communal tables and family style dinner service to encourage our guests to get to know one another, share food and stories and leave feeling like they had made new friends throughout the celebration. We also really wanted our entire wedding weekend to feel personal and representative of who we are as a couple. We therefore chose a industrial venue in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, a city that means so much to us as a couple and which we were thrilled to share with our family and friends. We also opted to forgo a religious ceremony in favor of something more personal given that neither of us are super religious. Both our parents have been married for over thirty years and we wanted to pay homage to the incredible examples they have set for us as spouses by including them in our ceremony. All four parents took part in our ceremony, with my dad taking the lead. The result was the most beautiful and heartfelt wedding ceremony I have ever been a part of. There was not a dry eye in the house and we are still getting compliments from our guests about how meaningful the ceremony and vows were.

Adjectives that we’d use to describe our general look would probably be urban romantic, relaxed, sweet. We absolutely fell in love with the urban look of the Pittsburgh Opera — large windows facing the city, exposed brick walls and a very industrial feel. To soften the space a bit — but not be over the top — we decided on a Valentine’s Day theme — lots of pinks, creams, a pop of red and tons of greenery. We didn’t want to stick too firmly to specific colors, so the “Valentine’s Day in May” theme allowed us to have some continuity without being too matchy or uniform. It also fit perfectly with the romantic and sweet vision we was going for, though we were careful not to let it get too cheesy. Our florist, GreenSinner, and our caterer, JPC Event Group, absolutely killed it with the flowers and décor — from the cookie table to the linens to the incredible “runner” of milk vases and flowers, every detail was in keeping with our general theme and the space was transformed exactly as we had envisioned it. Keeping with the feel of the space, we opted for a more relaxed look in terms of style. My dress was simple, comfortable and bling-less and the groomsmen were in suits rather than tuxes. I think our guests were surprised by the venue and look but realized quickly that it was perfectly fitting for us.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? You have to know what budget you are working with before you book anything. While we paid for the majority of the wedding ourselves, we did have some incredibly generous donations from our parents and grandparents. Money conversations are never fun but I’d say it’s imperative to have them at the outset so that you know realistically what money you have coming in, how much you need to save and what final budget you are working with. I would have been crushed if we had seen or fallen in love with a venue or vendor that I couldn’t realistically afford so I’m glad we got the money discussions out of the way first and had a clear sense of what we had to spend on our big day. We would also say that you should do your research when it comes to vendors. If you know what you want, make sure you find someone that is going to see that vision through. We worked with an absolutely all-start team of vendors who supportively listened to every wish and thought we had throughout the planning process and then used their creative genius to see it all through to the tiniest of details on the day of. I was bowled over by how professional, attentive and genuinely kind every single vendor we worked with was and would recommend all of them in a heartbeat.

From the bride, Jesse: Our wedding day was an unforgettable celebration of love with our closest supporters, our family and friends. The Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park, CA, a beautiful and historic garden oasis, lent an elegant and intimate setting for both the wedding ceremony and the reception, all meticulously brought to life by wedding planner, Bari Howard.

With a garden ceremony setting resonating with rustic simplicity and charm amid the beauties of nature, family, friends, and further accompanied by the soaring sounds of stringed instruments to a cocktail hour fueled by signature Moscow Mule copper mugs and delectable appetizers, the day was topped off beneath an arbor with a majestic dinner place setting, heartfelt speeches, and an array of dance moves with music provided by a DJ. The day couldn’t have been any more wonderful and picturesque, with lovely, yet creatively keen compositions captured by photographer Carlie Statsky. We are truly blessed to call this memory our wedding day.

Handmade Bright and Eclectic Texas Wedding

DIY Weddings

If you haven’t heard of Texas’ The Plant at Kyle, now is definitely the time to familiarize yourself with this incredible venue. Its industrial design is the ideal backdrop for tons of whimsical decor, which is just what it got when Mindi and Jacob exchanged their vows here along with the help of Two Pair Photography and Pollen Floral Art.

handmade bright and eclectic Texas wedding - photo by Two Pair Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handmade-bright-and-eclectic-texas-wedding

From the bride, Mindi: The main things that made our wedding so special was the fact the the whole thing was conceptualized and created while I worked full time, was in my last semester of graduate school, and was able to keep the whole thing under $20k. Jacob and I met in 3rd grade when he popped my training bra… little did we know, that exactly 20 years later he would be popping the most important question of his life! Jacob is a jeweler by profession and made both my rings therefore, I knew I wanted an intimate handmade wedding as well.

Our wedding ceremony and reception was completely DIY… Between myself, mother in law, and her 2 best friends, the following was made completely from scratch: the paper flowers, the rosettes, pinwheels, signs, the photo wall, all of the paper lanterns, tissue balls, the garlands, the confetti balloons, the banners, and the kites. Due to student loans, we decided that we wanted to keep our wedding very small and intimate. We were able to stay within our $20k budget by keeping it DIY and asking our friends and family to help the day of.

Coral and Mint Dallas Wedding

Wedding Design

If there’s any color combination that makes me ready for summer, it has to be coral and mint. Today’s styled shoot from Rebecca Ellison Photography and Bridal Blooms of Fort Worth uses this palette to bring us some darling wedding inspiration straight from The Lone Star State, complete with coral charm peonies, striking wedding cakes, and a rope swing that’s too cute to resist!

coral and mint Dallas wedding - photo by Rebecca Ellison Photography http://ruffledblog.com/coral-and-mint-dallas-wedding

From the photographer, Rebecca Ellison Photography: Ever since I became a photographer about 5 years ago, I had wanted to photographer a styled shoot, so last February when I finally got caught up with my editing, I was able to bring that dream and make it a reality. I knew I wanted to do the shoot in Spring, because the weather in Spring in Texas is amazing, and I love all of the soft colors of Spring weddings. I chose to focus on Coral and Mint which was inspired by the china that I had bought specifically for this shoot.

Every vendor who helped with this styled shoot went above and beyond really brought my thoughts into reality. The table setting felt almost Gatsby like, while still maintaining a sweet southern charm. The couple I chose were an actual couple, which made the joy and emotions of the pictures so real, which I always love! I’ve gotta say, creating a styled shoot is a lot of work, but the result was simply amazing!!

Handcrafted California Wedding at Retro Ranch

DIY Weddings

There are so many different places I could start with this wedding, but how about the incredible pink and purple bouquet with succulent accents from Leaf it to Lexi? This day was a true labor of love, photographed by Leif Brandt Photography and styled by Anchored by Love Events, and we’ve got the bride here with us to share the lowdown behind all the details and planning process. Let’s get started!

handcrafted California wedding at Retro Ranch - photo by Leif Brandt Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-california-wedding-at-retro-ranch

From the bride, Kalina: Nolan and I met through a mutual friend on New Year’s Eve in 2008. From the first time we met I knew he was going to be someone special and from that night on we have been inseparable. Before I met Nolan I knew I wanted to get married but never dreamed of marriage or a wedding, but from the beginning of our relationship we dreamed of our future together and talked about marriage frequently.

When we got to the ranch we toured the reception area first and we immediately fell in love with the trees surrounding the dance floors, the chandeliers hanging above it, the pallet bar and the bistro lights hanging above the reception lawn – even in the daylight it was magical. Then we drove up the hill to the ceremony site and as I stood there looking at the picturesque view of Temecula valley I was overcome with emotions and started to cry. The ceremony lawn is so peaceful and looking at Nolan I knew this was the place that we wanted to start our forever. On top of how beautiful the ranch is they operate as a non-profit and give back to cancer charities and a charity of your choice! We decided we didn’t want to see anything else and that Retro Ranch was our wedding venue.

When it came to décor we wanted to have a laid back country feel and I wanted us to make as many things as we could to put our own personal touch on the day. Originally we wanted to do farm tables, but they were too expensive so we made wooden table runners for each table and we loved how they turned out – they best part is that we took them home after the wedding and plan to use them to make things for our home. Nolan built all of the wooden signs, my bridesmaids helped me stain them, and I painted all of the lettering. I hand made all of our escort cards and finished them off by attaching each one to a shotgun shell which Nolan and I had shot a few weekends before the wedding. I made our table numbers out of gold glitter paper and in lieu of a traditional guest book, we created a wooden guest book sign that our guests left us messages on – which now hangs in our house. Our friends Alex and Andy even made us light up initials to display at the bar which also are displayed in our house now!

Any advice for couples planning their wedding day now? If I could give advice to any bride I would say three things. One – pick vendors that you love. We chose vendors like Leif Brandt and Leaf it to Lexi because we love them as people and their amazing work also came with them. When you chose vendors you love you don’t have to worry about a thing – you know that they will do everything possible to create the wedding you envision. Two – hire a wedding planner – they take care of everything from the rehearsal dinner to breaking down the wedding and allow you and your family to enjoy your day instead of worrying about where cars are being parked or where your decorations are going to be placed. Three – just go with it – things are going to happen that day that you didn’t expect: some of the cheese for the cocktail hour might have been eaten by the groom and groomsmen the night before, the sprinklers might go off while you’re taking photos, your grandparents might not be able to make it, or you might be running late but your day will still be magical and the memories you make that day will just add to your love story!

Weddings For Freedom Campaign

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Paper Antler

When styled shoots can fuse together great design ideas with an even greater cause, the result is far beyond the realm of inspiring. Paper Antler and Weddings for Freedom recently worked together on a styled shoot that not only shows us beautiful wedding inspiration, but also highlights the realistic threat of the sex trafficking industry. Take a look at Weddings for Freedom‘s website to learn more about their cause and motion to raise both awareness and funds for sex trafficking victims in the United States.

Weddings For Freedom bridal inspiration - photo by Paper Antler http://ruffledblog.com/weddings-for-freedom-bridal-inspiration

From the photographers, Jonny and Michelle of Paper Antler: Talking about sex trafficking is not easy and it’s often difficult to know where to start. While most people understand it is an issue “over there” it’s far more difficult to acknowledge the fact that it is a growing and rampant problem in the United States.

With that said, the purpose of this photo shoot is to raise awareness about sex trafficking in the United States by showcasing statistics utilizing both traditional and non-traditional wedding details. We incorporated wedding elements such as a bride and groom, tablescapes, an invitation suite, and flowers and then interlaced statistics about modern day slavery in the United States into said elements. Our main color palette was shades of melon and touches of gold and soft greens.

We hope this shoot is not only inspiring in a wedding sense, but on a social justice level as well, and that it encourages wedding vendors and couples across the country to check out Weddings for Freedom to help take a stand against modern day slavery.

Coral and Emerald Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

With its soft coral and calming aqua hues, today’s styled shoot from Cannon Candids Photography and Jstat Design has us longing for spring. While we wait for things to warm up a bit outside, this is a fantastic way to tide us over! We’re particularly taken with the wedding bouquet — it took us a few good looks to realize that it wasn’t made with real flowers, but rather silk ones with vintage brooches.

From the photographer, Cannon Candids: This summer Cannon Candids Photography had the opportunity to shoot at a new up and coming venue in Barberton, Ohio, The Piggery at Anna Dean Farms. After shooting their first wedding there, they knew that they wanted to go back. The space was simple and full of beautiful natural light. The designer of the shoot wanted to take the fresh rustic space and fill it whimsical colors and sparkle! Elyse’s Boutique, Suzie Kays Keepsake Brooch Bouquets, Sitting Pretty Linens, Jstat Design, and Cannon Candids Photography worked together to create this stylized shoot. We were inspired by the natural accents of everyday life and wanted to reveal nature’s beauty of glittering dew, natural light, and vibrant greenery.

Whimsical Columbus Wedding with a Colorful Palette

Whimsical Weddings

Every day I’m amazed by what a powerful effect a bright, colorful, fun wedding can have on my spirit — especially when the couple is all smiles, like newlyweds Austin and Elizabeth. Kelly Maughan Photography perfectly captured a day bursting with love and happiness, and we’ve got the images to prove it. We particularly love the patterned table runners used as place mats!

From the photographer, Kelly Maughan: Growing up just five miles from one another, it is a wonder Austin and Elizabeth Sullivan did not actually meet and begin dating until they were in their late 20s. Their love grew quickly, and soon they were planning their “Best Day Ever”. By focusing on just a handful of elements rather than every aspect, the guests were drawn to the main attraction…. the bride and groom. Inspired by a picture of an amazing single bouquet, Austin and Elizabeth created their dream wedding that married classic and rustic into a fun, laid-back night neither will forget.

Guests were seated at white linen covered tables that were topped with beautiful cactus centerpieces, inspired by the night in Sedona, Arizona where Austin popped the question. Guests were wowed as their eyes were drawn to the head table boldly situated in the center of the room, beautifully draped in an ikat pattern in colors of that amazing bridal bouquet. The contrast of this exquisite head table and the surrounding white tables created quite a pop!

The groom, a graphic designer, provided the humorous wedding program and menu, keeping the night light-hearted for the guests! Food stations positioned throughout the venue allowed guests to float as they feasted on everything from sushi to fried chicken and waffles. Enjoying the sunset over the Columbus skyline, relaxing with friends at the scotch and cigar bar, and dancing under the stars created this magical night for Austin and Elizabeth.

Wedding Design

IglooPhoto

We can’t help but gush whenever we see vendors come together and work so beautifully together, which is precisely what happened for this shoot by IglooPhoto, That Day di Monica Ferraris, and Mutabilis Lab. Beach-y inspiration with nods to the ocean and water nymphs, all aboard the Signora Del Vento, an Italian sailboat built in 1962. Are you hooked yet?

From the event designer, Monica of That Day di Monica Ferraris: A three-masted sailing ship and a sunset gentle breeze were the ideal setting for this styled shooting inspired by the beauty of the Mediterranean Sea. Before the winter comes, just one last summer dream. It is a unique location as this sailing ship can really host a wedding. The Signora Del Vento (the Lady of the Wind) was built in Poland in 1962, it has 25 cabins, indoor lounge restaurant, two bars, a deck of 4,305 sq ft (400 sqm) and the possibility to cruise in a natural and unique ambiance along the enchanting coastline of Italy.

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Pat Furey

If ever there was a match made in heaven, it has to be Pat Furey, LVR Events, and Saipua — just consider this wedding to be living proof. Held at NYC’s stylish Brooklyn Winery, the couple complemented the endless floral design and botanical inspired with pops of bold coral, salmon, and gold for a wedding we can’t resist.

From the bride, Melissa: We envisioned a bohemian style with some elegance and fun mixed in. Our wedding could be described as natural and botanical, while also feeling light and romantic. The theme was garden and floral inspired with colors like salmon and coral with gold accents.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Our advice would be to figure out what part of the experience is most important to you to put your stamp on it. Don’t take on more than you can handle. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from family and friends. Try to have fun and not make too much stress for yourself. People are not exaggerating when they say your wedding goes by really fast, so try and be present in the experience if possible!

San Juan Capistrano Wedding with Handmade Touches

Rustic Weddings

Danielle and Samer’s San Juan Capistrano wedding is handmade goodness from beginning to end, and we’ve got the images to prove it. Sue Wheelock Photography, Simply Sweet Weddings & Events, and Lavenders Flowers put their talented minds to work and created a day full of beautiful pinks, lush flowers, and rustic details that warm our hearts to the core. There’s also a video from Element Wedding Films at the end; make sure you check it out!

From the bride, Danielle: Our wedding day was one of the best days of my life and I always catch myself glancing over wedding pictures, watching our wedding film over and over again, and reminiscing about all the fun times we both had that day. One of the most important things that Samer and I wanted to make sure we portrayed throughout our wedding was who we are as a couple, simple yet fun. We decided on using a lot of color, many rustic touches, and tried to keep things as unique as can be. One of our favorite things about the wedding planning process was all of the projects we did together. Our favorite DIY item was our dessert table backdrop that was made up of different size wood rounds that Samer cut and I painted. I then laid out all of the rounds onto a painted backdrop of wood and set with wood glue. We both really enjoyed getting wood chips and dust all over us, mixing colors of paint to make new colors and obviously, our amazing finished product that we were able to display for our friends and family on our wedding day.

So many of our items were DIY. The dessert table backdrop, boxed favors, table letters, burlap runners, flower jars, Mr. & Mrs. Signs for reception chairs, Bar Sign, Escort Card table banner, Instagram Chalkboard Sign, Guestbook Tree (drawn by Groom), Card/Gift Mailbox. With my obsession and love for succulents, we grew and cared for 120 little potted succulents for 6 months leading up to the wedding in order to have as an escort card for each person that day. What a commitment that was, but actually surprisingly vital for our relationship. We learned patience when ones would wilt or die, excitement once they really started to take form, and gratitude when the day came and all of our loved ones took one home to continue to love for.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I think now looking back on our wedding planning, the best advice I can give is let the small things go. In the end, you are marrying your best friend and soul mate. If something goes wrong that day, let it. I remember the night before our wedding, my husband was unloading our car at the venue when he came up the stairs and had this look of terror on his face. A pane of our vintage windows for the seating chart had cracked. He told me, thinking I was going to be completely devastated, but in that exact moment, it just didn’t matter. All I cared about was walking down that aisle the next day, whatever else would happen before that, just didn’t matter anymore. Your coordinator, like my amazing one, can fix all of those issues, which she did and made it still come out looking amazing.

Christmas House Inn Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Adrienne Gunde

The second we heard Adrienne Gunde and The Little Branch had paired up for this wedding at Rancho Cucamonga’s Christmas House Inn, we knew we were in for a treat – and our eyes certainly weren’t disappointed. Sue and David’s wedding was full of botanical inspiration, a bit of whimsy, and such romance that we can’t seem to stop swooning!

Christmas House Inn wedding - photo by Adrienne Gunde http://ruffledblog.com/christmas-house-inn-wedding

From the bride, Sue: David and I wanted the wedding to be fun, casual, yet pretty. We love vintage decorative elements, so we were looking for a venue that fit with our needs. David and I got married at the Christmas House Inn in California for several reasons. We were absolutely thrilled to find the Christmas House Inn. The Inn was built in 1904 and it was built on a ranch so there are fruit trees all over the property. We had access to the entire property. We were married under the large olive tree in the front yard and our cocktail hour was done on the veranda and throughout the first floor of the house. Christmas House has a grand piano in the main room so our friend, Diana Li, played the piano and sang during the cocktail hour. We thought it would make it more intimate to have a friend provide the music for that part of the event.

The whole property including the guest rooms have vintage furniture and decor, so it was fun for guests to roam around the space. The bridal party finished getting ready in the master suite that was upstairs, while the groomsmen got ready in the carriage house, which used to hold carriages but has been renovated into guest rooms. We had framed photographs placed throughout the house so guests could wander around and see personal photos of us. Our reception was held in the back gardens of the inn. We were surrounded by fruit trees, lush greenery, and twinkle lights that were placed all throughout the space. Lanterns and twinkle lights decorated the dance floor and guests were served drinks from a vintage bar. We loved that the venue felt intimate, like it was our home, but prettier!

David and I wanted to personalize different parts of the wedding by including our friends and family in the ceremony and reception. Our good friend, Thai Chu, officiated our wedding. He prepared such a sweet and insightful ceremony. We also asked our guests to partake in our vows. We asked our friends and family recommit to their vows to their partners after we said ours to each other. We DIYed the ceremony chair garlands. We spent a lot of time gluing and tying ribbons for the garlands and Janice (our coordinator) hung ribbons on the chandelier for the ceremony. I also made the wands for our child attendants to carry into the ceremony. Since we had four kids in the wedding (our nieces and nephews), we wanted to make sure they all had something to carry. They had a lot of fun waving them around! There were also some DIY elements for the reception. Since we had a lot of kids at our wedding, we wanted to make sure that they had activities. Our friend Nana Wyngarden and her kids Kai and Larsen created some really fun coloring books. They drew pictures of me, David, and our hobbies. The kids at the wedding colored them and we will add them to our wedding scrapbook. David also created the cake toppers. He made them out of Sculpey and hand painted them afterwards. My sister (the maid of honor) handmade my reception dress. David and I did East Coast Swing for our first dance so my sister made something that was fun to twirl in! We went to Santee Alley in downtown LA and picked out the lace and silk and she magically put everything together. It was definitely a labor of love.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? We know that everyone gives this advice, but we feel that it’s very important to follow. Make sure to enjoy the wedding day because it goes by very fast! Also, having a photographer that you get along with and trust is also important. This person is with you on one of your most important days as a couple. In terms of advice for wedding planning, embrace the process, even the things that go wrong. It’s a good opportunity to learn about each other as you complete projects together and overcome the various challenges associated with preparing for such an important event. We found that we learned a lot about each other during the wedding planning process and we’ll be able to tackle more future challenges as a couple because of everything we learned while we were dating and planning such a big event.

Revolution Hall Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Heidi Benjamin

What better way is there to celebrate your love than by filling your wedding day with nods to all the things you and your S.O. love? In Rachel and Jan’s case, a celebration filled with retro touches and nods to vinyl collecting was in order, with no shortage of other handcrafted details all captured by the lovely Heidi Benjamin.

Revolution Hall wedding - photo by Heidi Benjamin http://ruffledblog.com/revolution-hall-wedding

From the bride, Rachel: Like so many, we wanted it to be a reflection of us. Which means lots of fun, tons of color, great food and equally great music in a not-too-stuffy, throwback setting. Our wedding was fun, bright, eclectic, and personal with tons of vintage details. Our theme was loosely tied to the idea of a “True Love Tour” because we actually had two celebrations and wanted a clever way to tie them into the invitations. There was a more involved celebration where we grew up in New York, and then a smaller reception with our friends where we now live in Denver after our honeymoon. I work in the music industry and my husband and I are both big fans of live music (and vinyl collecting) so we liked the idea of making a musical element a cornerstone of the setting. That theme was reflected in the paper goods, table numbers and the music itself. My husband is a brewmaster, so our venue choice of a concert hall attached to a brewery in the city we met was an easy one. The color scheme was largely mint, peach, yellow and some metallic accents, which we blew over the top with the flower wall.

Flower recipe: My bouquet was DIY from vintage brooches, while my bridesmaids (and Jan’s brideslady) carried monochromatic white bouquets made of mostly peonies, hydrangeas, mini roses and carnations with some greenery and other brooch accents. All of the handheld arrangements were wrapped in chambray from one of my late grandfather’s old work shirts. Table arrangements were mostly carnation, mini roses, baby’s breath and alstroemeria.

As far as DIY was concerned, the 8′ x 10′ flower wall was the largest, most collaborative DIY project. I ordered loads of tissue paper online and had my family and friends fold a bunch at my bridal shower in lieu of a game, which was way more fun! We spent the entire day before the wedding styling the wall. The brooch bouquet was the other time consuming project I had my heart set on. A lot of the brooches were provided by both sides of our family, which made it that much more special. It was well worth every broken nail! My hairpiece, the record-based/tiered dessert stands for donuts and the table numbers were also DIY, as were the flower arrangements. All of the flowers were in vintage glassware I collected at thrift stores and garage sales on trips home to New York, as well as while in Colorado; I carried a ton of glasses back with me for the wedding in my luggage.

Franschhoek Valley Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Love Made Visible

South Africa, your beautiful weddings never cease to amaze me. This one, made possible thanks to the talents of Love Made Visible and Green Goddess Flower Studio, is bursting with gorgeous summer tones and endlessly beautiful floral arrangements. Honestly, just wait ’til you get a peek of these centerpieces!

wedding ceremony recessionals - photo by Love Made Visible http://ruffledblog.com/franschhoek-valley-wedding

From the bride, Julia: We wanted a look and feel that was refined and classy, but still relaxed and fun. The reception space was a garden and outdoor patio on a winery in the picturesque Franschhoek valley of the Western Cape (South Africa). The winery is one of the oldest in the region, it has lot of rustic old world charm that is still sophisticated, without being “fussy.” We wanted to make sure that our wedding style incorporated the incredible natural beauty of Franschhoek and the character of the venue, rather than competing with these elements. We wanted to steer clear of anything too shabby-chic, vintage country fair or barn wedding. It was sometimes difficult for us to articulate exactly what we wanted, because we hadn’t seen examples that were a perfect match for what we were envisioning. Our florists totally nailed it though. Coral and Chantell took a few key words and created something really special.

Our color scheme was coral, peach and a silvery sage green, though we weren’t set on super specific colors and ended up with a lovely scheme that also incorporated some warm yellows and orangey-reds. It was tough, but we really tried to limit the DIY. Since we live overseas, the time that we do have with our friends and family is so rare and special, so we wanted to make sure that we could focus on spending time with our loved ones and not get distracted be last minute craft projects. I love little projects, so it was difficult to resist the urge to dive into all the fun crafty things I found on Pinterest. Our only project was the little gold safari animals. Our florists painted them gold, our friend Jenny designed and printed name tags for each guest, my mom picked each guest’s “spirit animal,” and my future sister-in-law helped assemble the animals and name tags so that they were beautiful and ready for the table… it was a team effort for sure. Our florists suggested this idea, and this little touch was one of the biggest hits of the night!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Wrap up the heavy lifting portion of your planning and preparation at least a week before the wedding, so that you can have some time to relax and shift gears before the big day. When we were preparing to move from San Francisco to Cape Town, we had an endless to-do list. We were running errands and checking things off our to-do list up until the last minute (I think I was on the phone with my bank as we boarded the plane). When we the airplane door closed and we were on our way, we could finally relax, put the lists behind us and turn our focus to the amazing life changing adventure ahead. There were plenty of small things that we didn’t have time to do, but did it matter? Nope. It took being in a metal tube 30,000 feet above the earth for us to shift gears, but when we did, we were able to be present in the experience and enjoy it. When we started planning the wedding, we decided that we would pick a date 1-2 weeks before our wedding day and “get on the plane” together. We worked toward this, and were able to detach ourselves from the planning and have a couple of days to transition from planning mode into party mode (which was a lot more challenging that I thought!!). Were there little things we hadn’t finished? Of course. Did it matter at that point? Not at all. By the time our guests arrived, we were ready to enjoy the experience and celebrate with the people we love.
