Coastal Bride Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

A beach-y bride meets bohemian style in this ever-so-dreamy editorial from Apryl Ann Photography and Michelle Lywood. One of our favorite aspects of this shoot is that the bouquet was inspired by an abstract painting, proving the possibilities for finding inspiration for your wedding day are truly endless. Amy Clarke‘s work on hair and makeup shines here, and we’d be kidding ourselves if we tried to deny our dreams of having her style us every day!

From the florist, Michelle Lywood: I had recently seen an abstract painting that was a beautiful blend of many different colors with no defined forms. As an artist, it reminded me that letting go of control and creating without boundaries can lead to unexpected results. My mindset was simply to find the best blooms available and anything that I was excited to work with regardless of my typical concerns when planning a design.

I came across miraculously large dark red tree peonies, apricot colored garden roses with intricate details in how their petals had bloomed, strikingly jewel toned purple clematis, and breathtakingly delicate rose bushes. I really let the flowers dictate where the design was going. The colors were a pretty unique combination, but I loved how each flower maintained its integrity and was able to shine while still working together as a whole in the bouquet. The softness of the rose bushes was the perfect juxtaposition against the coastal rocks. And when life hands you giant peonies, you celebrate with a bold headpiece. Everything came together beautifully, and the whole process felt refreshingly natural.

Edgy Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Veronica Varos

If ever I could step inside a styled wedding shoot, I’d pick this one from Veronica Varos Photography. It’s the ultimate bohemian fairytale with enough flowers from Mt. Lebanon Floral to last a lifetime, and the perfect unique venue, Iron Eden, whose iron pieces provide a stark contrast to the soft beauty of the gowns and floral details. This here is true love.

From Ansley, owner at Bliss Events Ltd.: We “described the inspiration for the shoot as ‘Eclectic, Edgy & Bohemia.’ Iron Eden is the perfect description of our shoot as Eden means, ‘any place of complete delight, bliss and peace.’ Personally, I loved the fact that we all wanted to create a dream.”

From Carmel, owner at Mt. Lebanon Floral: I knew that head wreaths were going to play a part. I wanted that vibe to be represented, to be eclectic and loose and to illustrate that a wedding can be part fantasy and part reality; fantasy but not the princess look. I wanted to reach the bride who cannot be pigeon-holed. I visualized bold and textured and soft at the same time. That’s why so many different textures came through in the final product. Even the location supported this with a sort of ‘nest theme’, an iron nest. It shouts ‘one of a kind’, even the gold dress underlines that. Our teamwork was flawless. I think people want something new, more free form, more organic. To me, it’s fantasy. It’s for a girl who really, on that day, is living a little bit of a fantasy. It’s magical, almost Mid Summer Nights Dream like. It’s the day that you should absolutely be able to live a fantasy. If not then, when?

From Erin, owner of Glitter & Grit: For the shoot I chose gowns by Lindee Daniel, who is the epitome of eco luxury. Her designs evoke elegance with an edge by weaving together sustainable fabrics and endless details. Her gowns are created in Los Angeles, using exquisite and exclusive wild and peace (cruelty-free) silks, organic cottons, and other natural fabrics. Colors are either from the natural color of the fiber, or by a natural dyeing process. The sleek designs of Nicole Miller are a perfect fit for the no-fuss bride. Look for vintage-inspired pieces with lace, beading, and magnificent draping from Nicole Miller. Her gowns provide versatility for any bride while remaining effortlessly chic. The Nicole Miller Bridal Collection is handmade in New York and are made of the best quality fabrics.

Romantic Berry Wedding Bouquet

Flower Guide

Photos by:

Patricia Kantzos

For me, one of the greatest parts of fall is seeing all the berry-toned bouquets emerge. Patricia Kantzos Photography helped Bourgeon celebrate the opening of their new studio with this stunning shoot showcasing a bouquet that couldn’t possibly be any more gorgeous, with stems of scabiosa, peonies, ranunculus, and clematis.

From the photographer, Patricia Kantzos: Amy Febinger of Bourgeon and I worked together on an inspiration shoot as a way to celebrate the opening of her Brooklyn flower studio. We wanted to keep it clean and showcase a wedding bouquet, the simplicity of the flowers used along with the bouquet’s architecture and design elements.

Amy decorated her studio space with some beautiful pieces she inherited from her mother and grandmother. We decided to use some of these details in the shoot – the rocking chair, antique silver tray, the pink depression glass pitcher, the Prince Albert tin she uses everyday to hold pins… This was an incredibly heartfelt way to honor her mother and grandmother.

Clematis – Spring Wedding Flowers

Flower Guide

Photos by:

Calling all spring and summer brides! This post is for you. Honey of a Thousand Flowers is back this week with a bloom that evokes the airy mood that sunny days are made of. This white on white floral arrangement is particularly gorgeous for a chic, vintage-inspired day. I will let Sarah take it from here:

Spring wedding flowers white bouquets

From Sarah: Clematis is a charming spring and early summer flowering vine. There are many different varieties; some look innocent and sweet, and others look like they might contain venom. This four-petal variety is called Montana. Clematis come in white, shades of pink, lavender, and deep purple and burgundies.

These arrangements consist of mostly clematis, but also have eucalyptus, viburnum, and wild sweet pea in them. These all white arrangements could translate in several different environments, a backyard wedding, a beach wedding, or maybe an upscale affair in an art gallery.

More spring wedding flowers to pour over in the gallery!

Both the vines and the blooms are delicate, and are probably best used in arrangements where they are in water. Their vines are perfect to wrap around containers and other flowers or leave trailing out of centerpieces. May-July is their peak season, and occasionally they are available for fall brides too.

All photos by Sarah Winward.

As a graphic designer, I believe that great graphic design is in the details {read: spending lots of time at the computer looking at pixels.} If you dont know what a pixel is- congratulations- because that’s why graphic designer types exist! {to save your eyesight} Really, though-design is more than matching colors and picking pretty fonts {but I do have major love for fonts} – it’s about conveying your message to the world with a swirl, a flourish, a dot, a pattern- whatever it takes to creatively encompass your clients vision and send that vision out into the world with impact.
