Larchfield Estate Wedding

Romantic Weddings

This Modern Love

I don’t think I’ve yet to come across a Claire Pettibone wedding gown that stops me in my tracks, and this one worn by bride Emma is hardly an exception. Seriously, just wait until you see the incredible back detail! This Modern Love and The Informal Florist also brought their best to the plate, with Alise Taggart creating some of the most beautiful details throughout the reception.

From the stylist, Alise Taggart: Emma is from Northern Ireland and Andy is from England. They met as stage actors performing in Andrew Lloyd’s Webber’s “Starlight Express” in Germany, where they now live. Emma was definitely a bride who knew what she wanted and I loved all of her fun and creative ideas! She wanted an enchanted forest full of deep berry, fig, pomegranate, and lilac tones with gold accents. She incorporated many of her personal family heirlooms in the decor as well such as vintage furniture and other pieces owned by her family and passed through generations.

The Informal Florist and her team brought the outdoors in with the overflowing foliage on the exposed beams of the old converted barn and did an incredible job on the gorgeous, lush floral centrepieces, bouquets, and the magical hanging creation over the head table. Each of the table runners were custom made and hand dyed, the tables were decorated with varying pillar and taper candles with intertwined vines and fruit scattered along the centre. Paper Bark Stationery hand painted the invitations and the other stationery pieces to match the colour palette perfectly. The weather couldn’t have been better, especially on an April day in Ireland, and the guests took full advantage of the garden games while sipping tea from vintage china and enjoying canapés on the lawn. This Modern Love captured the day beautifully, documenting each sweet moment perfectly. Please take the time to watch the incredible film by Best Day Productions as well, featuring some incredible dance moves by the fabulous guests at this wedding.

Backyard Chic Utah Wedding

Garden Weddings

If you have a deep love for Claire Pettibone wedding gowns like I do, you’re in for one heck of a treat today. Maddie and Gray celebrated their love with a soft and romantic wedding in the bride’s parents’ backyard, bringing along Pepper Nix Photography to capture every detail and nuance.

From the bride, Maddie: We really wanted our wedding to feel subtle, soft, romantic but still have some fun glitz. I knew we wanted some kind of installation wall at the back of the tent, preferably wood, to ground the whole thing and really set the mood. We wanted rustic, but not burlap or hay… more earthy and romantic… more of an old vineyard or winery kind of rustic. I wanted wood and gold accents and lots of flowers and twinkly lights.

Jen came up with this fantastic idea of having our wood wall have lots of little shelves to hold candles, flowers, etc. She also thought of applying gold leaf and painting our monogram on it in white. It was just magical. The shelves holding the candles and spilling flowers was just beautiful. It perfectly fit the idea I was trying to convey, which was a sort of messy mix of earthy, romantic, Great Gatsby and woodsy all at the same time. And the gold leaf just sealed the deal! Adding it to the table numbers has to be one of my favorite little touches of the whole wedding!

I knew I wanted a subtle color palette that was romantic and soft. I wanted to let the flowers pop and really not take away from the garden. We didn’t want strong accent colors or something color to be the focal point. We wanted the whole thing to mix together into a sort of ethereal wash of twinkly lights and soft flowers, without being interrupted by intense pops of color. The colors acted as a backdrop, not the defining feature. The goal was to have them complement and recede behind some of our other decor features, like the wood wall backdrop and the gold leaf.

Any advice you have for future couples planning their weddings now? I think the most important thing is to hire good vendors and let them do what they are good at! That way, you don’t have to worry about the details on your wedding day so you can relax and enjoy your own party!

Canadian Mountain Wedding

Rustic Weddings

With an amazing mountainous backdrop that you can only find it in Canada, Amanda and Ryan’s wedding is the very definition of a woodsy wedding. And her Claire Pettibone from The Dress Theory is just one of the many gorgeous bits that make their wedding come together perfectly, all shot by Diane + Mike Photography.

From the bride, Amanda: Ryan and I had always dreamed of having a wedding in the mountains and we were able to find the perfect venue in Canmore, Alberta that embodied our rustic, mountainous vision. We wanted decor that would add to, but not distract from the natural beauty in Canmore. We stayed away from anything too formal and went for a more relaxed, natural feel. The venue really didn’t need much for decorations as it was already so lovely. For me, the most important purchase was my dress. I was having a hard time finding anything in our small town in BC that was unique and embodied the whimsical, romantic feeling I was looking for. I ended up finding it in Seattle at an amazing little shop called The Dress Theory. Not only do they have beautiful dresses but excellent customer service. As cliche as it sounds, the dress was very “me” as many wedding guests stated and I felt as though I was wearing a piece of art and not just a dress. Claire Pettibone is an amazing designer! It was worth the trip to Seattle. I also really loved the vintage inspired dresses the bridesmaids wore.

We knew we wanted a rustic, woodsy, whimsical feel for our wedding but basically just ended up choosing items that we liked. I had no idea how everything would work together but ended up loving it on the wedding day. We didn’t have a colour scheme per say, rather just chose flowers we liked and swayed towards neutrals with pops of colour like yellow and baby blue in the bridal bouquet. We ordered different wild flowers from the florist and put all the arrangements for the decor together ourselves. We had quite a few DIY projects starting with the invitations and programs which were printed from a painting my mom did. My dad made a bunch of things from gorgeous birch wood including, tea light holders, place card holders, table numbers, and a picture frame to hold the wedding pictures of our grandparents and parents. The centerpieces were mason jars that my bridesmaids and I covered in lace and decorated with old buttons and twine. It was fun to see what everyone came up with and no two were alike, which I thought was really special. The cakes were made by my very talented cousin. I decorated the escort cards myself as well, just by gluing ribbon, twine and such to gift tags.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? No matter what anyone else may think or say, marriage is a beautiful union and the perfect reason to celebrate with loved ones or however you may choose. Enjoy the ride! There may be stressful moments leading up to the event and that is perfectly okay. But on the day of you will feel an indescribable joy; revel in it and celebrate! Don’t let negative people or small details bring you down. Your wedding day will be magical simply because you are committing your life to someone you love.

Gold and Glam Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s shoot from Springvine Design and Crystal Stokes Photography is just the kind of thing that sets our hearts racing: 1920s accents, touches of anemones, and a little bit of painting influence taken from the art nouveau movement. All of these details add up to a photoshoot chock full of dark dramatic romance, with just enough gold to keep it bright and modern:

hollywood romance shoot

From the stylist, Springvine Design: Our style inspiration for the shoot was twofold: 1) Old Hollywood elegance & glam of the late 1920’s & 2) “The Kiss” – a painting by Gustav Klimt during the art nouveau movement which was characterized by his use of gold leaf & bold colors & of course, romance. We wanted to use these elements (and a hint of drama) to unveil a beautiful love story by this modern bride & groom.

The bride wore the Claire Pettibone “Kristene” gown with a gorgeous heart shaped train– Her jewels were understated to start and became more glam as the shoot continued. Her makeup remained flawless with smoky eyes and a well-defined burgundy lip. She carried a lush bouquet filled with anemones of white, deep burgundy ranunculus and amaranthus, pink O’Hara and David Austin Patience roses, and foliage of dusty miller and seeded eucalyptus. The groom was decked out in an all-black, tailored suit and was topped off with a touch of a white anemone himself.

Our sweetheart table was adorned in a sultry, gold linen and topped with gold-rimmed china and stemware. The centerpieces of golden urns and mercury glass were filled with the same floral beauties that were included in the bride’s bouquet. The three-tiered cake mimicked the lace in the bride’s gown and was shot against a lit backdrop of golden and textured film. We focused on showcasing the mantle made of salvaged barn wood primarily and enhanced it with an installation of flowers handcrafted from gold and white papers, as well as pages from vintage books. Below the mantle, inside the fire pit, we mixed various sized candles, brass candlesticks, and mercury glass votives on top of stacked firewood to create the most romantic ambiance for our bride and groom.

Heirloom Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Weddings are as much about the couples as they are about the families. An homage to them is only natural as you welcome new family members, and using family heirlooms is one of our favorite ways to honor them. So once these gorgeous images by Laura Murray styled by Jessica of A Vintage Affair Rentals fell on our laps, we were in love. And with dream flowers by Pink Posey Design, how could we not?

From the event stylist, Jessica of A Vintage Affair Rentals: The theme was antique sophistication and our color palette was deep, rich colors – wild raspberry, fern green, and dark plum. We played a bit with global pieces, tying in a love story. The candlesticks were my husband’s grandfather’s. He picked them up in England when he was stationed over there during WWII. Near the end of the war, he sent them back to the States to his wife, with a love note saying he heard new that the war was close to an end… and to save the candlesticks for their first meal back home together.

The calligraphy envelopes play into that story – and is also reflected in the hand drawn details of the cake. The carved wooden trays were purchased in Italy 60 years ago by my husband’s grandmother. The dress is a Claire Pettibone piece from Little White Dress with French lace accents. The vintage cameo ring is meant to compliment the oval shapes in the dress. The cake backdrop was made with old book pages and vintage vanity mirror trays.
