Wearing Her Sister’s Wedding Dress

Romantic Weddings

When Lillywhite Photography sent this wedding our way, we were delighted to read the background story. Not only is the bride in this wedding the photographer’s very own sister, but the siblings actually shared the same Pronovias wedding gown nearly two years apart! All Occasions Event Planning and Knot Just Flowers contributed their incredible eye for design and flowers for a day that’s truly relaxed and breathtaking at the same time.

From the bride, Jennifer: I wanted our wedding day to feel romantic and natural. I loved our venue and I wanted to take advantage of the natural scenery by focusing my details and decor to match the natural garden setting. We envisioned a romantic, whimsical, garden wedding; I mostly focused on shades of pink (specifically blush and coral), neutral tones, and greenery.

My husband and I made the favors (scented votive candles). I made the wedding invitations myself. My sister and I made the table seating cards, and the labels for the desserts and beverages using watercolor paint and calligraphy. My sister made the bride and groom signs for the sweetheart chairs, she also made the welcome chalkboard sign. I made the remaining various chalkboard decor signs.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Stay flexible throughout the process, tastes and styles change and if you have a long engagement yours are likely to shift a little as time passes. Find vendors who you enjoy working with early on, trust their judgment and you will find they do amazing things with the creative freedom you give them. Enjoy the process and the excitement that comes with being engaged.

From the photographer, Lillywhite Photography: I am a wedding photographer and had the honor of photographing my sister’s wedding :) Little did I know on my wedding day that my sister would be wearing the same wedding gown as I did almost exactly two years later. Dress shopping was pretty hard for me because I had such a strong vision of the dress I wanted. Something lacy, but a different type of lace. Something simple, but that would truly be one of a kind. When I tried on my dress from Pronovias at Pebbles Bridal Shop, I without a doubt KNEW it was the one. When I saw my groom for the first time, I knew that he KNEW it was the one too. I felt so me & absolutely stunning in my dress. When my sister got engaged, we kind of threw around the idea of her trying on my dress too. I knew her wedding would be so different and it didn’t bother me at all to share it. I thought it would be a great way to save money and I wanted to get more use out of a dress so pretty! When she went to Pebbles Bridal Store to try on dresses, we brought my dress along with us. She tried on a few & when she tried on mine, I knew it was the one. She was completely glowing and the dress took on a whole new feel with her in it. Seeing her in that dress on her wedding day was such a full expression of the love we have for each other. Along with sharing the wedding gown, we also shared in being each others’ maid of honor. I really felt our weddings were an example of the sisterly love we have for each other.

Beachside wedding inspiration is always a dreamy sight, and we have this shoot from RomaBea Images, My Lovely Events, and Knot Just Flowers as proof. With a show-stopping greenery bouquet, the perfect beach wedding cake, and impeccable calligraphy throughout, this shoot will be sure to inspire all you aqua lovers out there.

From the photographer, Beatrice of RomaBea Images: “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” -Jacques Cousteau // My inspiration was drawn from the color Azure, combined with all the soft tones and serenity of ocean. I set out to convey a feeling of calm, and capture images bathed in the soft sunlight of our California beaches. We wanted to pay homage to the sea scape, and tied the elements together by draping cheesecloth as our table runner, using a large foraged swag that echoed the vegetation in our surroundings, and finished with calligraphed muscles in lieu of traditional place cards. The cake was an a muted blue ombre topped with abalone which was the perfect companion to this ocean inspired Bride, who even donned natural stone accessories for an authentic look.

Microbrewed Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Lavender & Twine

How absolutely incredible is this reception space, Camarillo’s own Institution Ale Co.? The microbrewery served as the inspiration behind today’s styled shoot, lovingly put together by Shindig Fancy and These Buds A Blooming and photographed by Lavender & Twine. The result is about what you’d imagine – a perfect blend of masculine-meets-feminine decor with plenty of romantic details and floral arrangements thrown in for good measure.

From Crystal of Shindig Fancy: The inspiration for this shoot was the ever-growing American Craft Brewing industry. The guys over at Institution Ale Co. were gracious enough to host us in their new industrial space in Camarillo, CA. Another big inspiration was the increasing personalization of weddings in the past few of years where couples are using their big day to showcase their personal styles and interests. One of these interests comes in the form of customizing the bar menu to their taste. If the venue permits, beer enthusiasts are choosing to forgo the corporate cans and bottles to bring in a keg or two from their favorite local Microbrewery.

Beer drinking guests will be grateful to have a tasty libation to sip on throughout the night, but what about the non-beer drinkers you may ask? Taking the theme a little farther, we also decided to create The Whiskey Bean, a signature drink using the microbrew as one of the main ingredients, one that pleases the taste buds of non-beer drinking guest as well. Our ‘couple’ eloped and then returned home to host a lovely reception for their closest friends and family in their local brewery.

Festive Christmas Celebration Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Arina B Photography

Arina Borodina and Love Sweet Love Weddings & Events recently teamed up for their first styled shoot together, with a shared vision of a rustic glam Christmas. With deep red and burgundy floral design from Emlily Floral and accents of gold and forest green, this shoot definitely has us feeling the holiday spirit.

From the shoot designer, Nichelle of Love Sweet Love Weddings & Events: I think it was fate that Arina and I met. We were both looking to do a styled shoot, and my concept was to do a Christmas styled shoot because I love Christmas! It just so happened that she wanted to do a Christmas shoot! She and I collaborated on ideas we had for the shoot and we came up with what ended up being a rustic glam Christmas. I wanted to use a deep red color because I feel it looks so romantic and green because that’s the color that completely reminds me of all things Christmas. I decided to use touches of white to incorporate the idea of “snow” and I also thought gold would be a great accent color (especially because it is one of my favorite colors!) Once we had our ideas put together, Arina and I searched out our vendors and got extremely lucky with the ones we found!

McCormick Home Ranch in Camarillo became the perfect spot for our shoot with its green & white house and abundance of trees on the property, and Sally McCormick was so kind and easy to work with at her property. Patricia of the Vintage Owl was so amazing, she said we could use any piece we wanted to use for our shoot, and she definitely had some incredible pieces. I wanted a great lounge area and the gold couch she had fit perfectly with this shoot. To accent the lounge area, she had a great sled, so we decide to wrap presents to put alongside the couch. I had the inspiration to do a “hot chocolate” set-up because it’s the perfect winter drink. For the dessert table, I wanted to do a neat backdrop, so I made sparkly gold pine cones and strung them from the pine tree the dessert table was sitting under.

I worked with Ali from The Sugar Lab on creating a gorgeous rustic glam two-tiered cake; it turned out even prettier than I could have imagined! I also asked her if she could do mini pies because in my opinion, pie is the quintessential holiday dessert. Ali willingly obliged despite never having made mini pies before, though you would never know because the mini pies were a huge hit at the shoot! As far as florals, I wanted something that was super romantic and Emily from Emlily Florals made everything exactly as I had imagined. The wreaths she made went perfectly with the Christmas theme and were a great accent for the vintage doors for the “ceremony”. My favorites pieces though, were the stunning bouquet and the bridal wreath crown. For the invitations, menus, and escort cards, I worked with Erin of Erin Snyder Designs to create a design that went with the rustic theme and incorporated a little bit of gold in there to make it “glam”. Arina and I pulled this all together in a month and everything turned out even better than I had dreamed! I am so thankful for the amazing group of people I had the opportunity to work with on this shoot!

Camarillo Botanical Wedding

Garden Weddings

Lush greens and pretty pink florals serve as one gorgeous setting for this quirky Camarillo wedding designed by Kori from La Boheme Events along with photographs from Wild Whim Photography. This adorable bride and groom definitely know how to have a good time, and they were sure to provide just that for all of their lucky guests!

From Kori, at La Boheme Events: We are so excited to present this amazing whimsical and quirky wedding! Carly and John have been labeled the “life of the party” by their friends and this wedding was no exception. From the flower curtain drapes to the oversize paper flowers (made by the bride), guests felt as though they were in a wonderland. Bubbles fell overhead as people entered the reception site and Michael Jackson music (the bride and groom LOVE him) played all night long.

Maravilla Gardens Wedding

Maravilla Gardens — try as I might, I can’t think of a more beautiful place to get married. Right in the heart of Camarillo, California, its lush surroundings are everything we dream of! With some incredible images shot by Bret Cole with design and florals by Sugar and Charm Events into the mix, and Mara (who is also a blogger) and Matthew’s big day adds up to one of the most romantically stunning weddings we’ve seen.

soft bridal looks

From the bride, Mara: Our wedding was so incredibly special because we were surrounded my our closest family and friends. We wanted to keep our wedding small so that it would be more special and intimate. I loved that I was able to talk to everyone during the course of the day.

I loved that Matthew and I chose details that were important to the both of us. Our wedding really reflected who we were as a couple. We chose the things that were most important to us (location and photography) and figured out how to balance our budget among the other things. Despite the couple morning of glitches, I was able to take in and appreciate the day completely. I am so happy I was present and in the moment because it went by way too quickly!

Matthew and I both wanted our day to feel very natural and intimate. We had about 80 guests, including a bunch of children, so I was able to do a lot of DIY projects to make it more personal. We wanted everyone to leave feeling like they were a witness to a beautiful and romantic day.

Our color scheme was blush pink, gray with pops of sage green and yellow. Here are some of the DIY projects I made: bunting for the ceremony arbor (and top of cake), wood burned baskets and signs, programs made by my brother, drink menu and food menu board, seating chart, cookies and milk bar with cake stands made from china plates and cups, stamped cookie bags, table numbers and centerpieces, and homemade pillows for the seating area. Matthew also brewed all the beer for the wedding! We definitely had a lot of DIY projects but it was fun because I included my friends and family in the process as well.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? It’s good to take time doing research on what you like and don’t like. Make moodboards and inspiration boards and once you feel like you know what you want, go through and edit the things that don’t quite fit. Also include your groom in the process. Matthew loved being a part of the planning since it was going to be our day. I also reached out to my blog readers every Wednesday and asked their advice. So many were married or were going through the same process as me, so it was so great to get their thoughts and perspectives.

From the bride, Devon: We wanted our wedding to reflect us and our tastes as a couple. We spent the better part of a year going to different antique stores as well as antique markets and flea markets, finding every last detail, right down to the mason jars and crates. It was something we had a lot of fun in doing together. We also created the playlist entirely, that was something that was very important to us. We had a lot of help from very crafty friends as well as the amazing Lauren at Lauren Elise Crafted to make every last detail relate to us as well as many creative artists from Etsy.

No matter what, we’re always going to love a wedding with lots of purple, and this affair from Clayton Austin with every possible shade is a complete charmer! Don’t you just adore their little pup cake toppers? And they might just have the most scrumptious looking cupcakes we’ve ever seen!

vintage purple wedding from clayton austin photography

From the bride, Kat: When we first began planning our dream day, we knew we wanted something outdoors with a beautiful backdrop. There was nothing quite like that where we are from, so we started to think a semi-destination wedding. Something not too far away, so people would still attend, but something that also made our guests feel like they were out of town. We wanted a romantic feel and somewhat fancy, but down to earth.

Since our engagement pictures were vintage, we knew right away, we would be going with a vintage feel. We started gathering vintage items realllly early. One of the first estate sales we attended, we found a hardback lovestory (one of many we’d gather because of the title), it was printed in 1948 and it was baby blue and titled, “The Bride of Fortune”. From there, the color scheme was envisioned and everything slowly started to fall into place. My favorite color is purple, so that contrasting with the baby blue was a given.

One of the big DIY projects was the napkin holders. I had collected some amazing vintage buttons for over a year along with some baby blue vintage lace. A few weeks before the wedding, it hit me what they could be used for. So, with the help of a few of my very best friends, we gathered and cut lace and velcro and glue gunned 170 vintage buttons to lace and rolled and wrapped the cloth napkins. I also had a very dear friend who is extremely talented make my heart shaped chalk board table numbers and our photo booth back drop (with the help of some fabulous pinwheels I purchased off of etsy).
