Modern Downtown Los Angeles Wedding

Modern Weddings

A pair of newlyweds who never stop smiling and dance down the aisle are definitely our kinds of people. Anna Delores Photography captured Megan and Donald’s modern wedding at LA’s Millwick House, a venue so full of lush greenery that it nearly reminds us of a tropical oasis. Abby Lee Events helped the couple’s vision come alive, right down to the Mario and Princess Peach cake topper.

From the photographer, Anna Delores Photography: Megan and Donald stole our hearts after telling us that they met during a Zumba class (how freaking adorable is that?!?), and they couldn’t wait to bring the East and West Coast families together for a big day of love. This D.C. based couple decided to hold their wedding at the modern Millwick in the heart of Los Angles Arts District and Abby Lee Events worked closely with Megan to curate this gem of a wedding.

Fiesta Inspired San Diego Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Cara Robbins Studio

When you come up with a title for your wedding that’s “Bohemian Glam Fiesta,” how could you end up with anything less than amazingness? This is exactly what bride Christina and her planner, Rachel Lunghi of Lace and Likes envisioned, and the result completely hits the nail on the head. Lunghi also spearheaded floral design with her company Siren Floral Co., which delivered a striking array of dusty pinks and orange blooms, a pink carnation ceremony backdrop, and some seriously lusty greenery. Cara Robbins Studio worked magic behind the camera, as usual!

Fiesta Inspired San Diego Wedding - http://ruffledblog.com/fiesta-inspired-san-diego-wedding

From the bride, Christina: Bohemian Glam Fiesta – that’s basically the title our planner and I came up with to describe the vibe we wanted. Cory and I love tacos/margaritas, so having tacos catered was a no-brainer. Then, somehow, I started running with a fiesta themed wedding and it was tastefully intertwined throughout the night! The beautiful colors, the fun atmosphere, the dancing — all of the things that I wanted definitely came through. We just wanted everyone to feel happy and loved and I think all of the bright colors really helped to execute that.

Summer Temecula Vineyard Wedding

Garden Weddings

You had us at Europa Village. We cannot imagine a more idyllic setting for the wedding of Morgan and Emery, complete with meandering eucalyptus garlands (thank you Blue Ladder Botany!) and rosemary-adorned favors that mimicked the landscape. Staying true to Italian tradition, Morgan and Emery placed a heavy emphasis on family. Thanks to Simply by Bethaina, every detail had a purpose and every guest was made to feel significant. Lucy of Lucy Munoz Photography captured everything from the intimate ceremony to lush reception, so read on and join in the celebration!

Summer Temecula Vineyard Wedding - http://ruffledblog.com/summer-temecula-vineyard-wedding

From the bride, Morgan: The vision for our wedding was an intimate weekend-long celebration with our closest friends and family. The first time we went to Europa Village, we immediately fell in love and knew it was the perfect location for our wedding. The venue is picturesque on its own so we were lucky that we didn’t need to do much in terms of decor. Our goal was to keep the details simple and romantic with a Tuscan feel. We wanted everything to be natural and soft looking, nothing stiff or overly done. We kept the color palette neutral with blush, white, and green tones.

We’ve always envisioned ourselves having an outdoor ceremony but when we saw the cave for the first time, we knew we had to get married there. It was such an intimate atmosphere, the energy and love we felt in the room on our wedding day was overwhelming. Our close friend officiated the ceremony for us which made it even more special. For the reception, we dined along the vineyards and chose to decorate with simple garland centerpieces that had pops of blooms throughout. For a personal touch, we picked rosemary from my dad’s backyard and made each guest an olive oil favor to take home with them. Our overall goal was simple: celebrate our marriage with as little stress as possible and throw a great party with amazing food and wine and lots of dancing. The day truly turned out better than we had ever imagined. Many of our guests traveled from out of town so it was very important to spend quality time with our loved ones the entire weekend. The day after the wedding, we wanted to keep the celebration going and hosted a backyard party complete with a taco truck, margaritas and lawn games. It couldn’t have been a more perfect weekend.

Malibu Coastal Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Blue Rose Pictures

We are utterly swept away with today’s styled shoot from Brilliant Wedding Co and The Bloemist, which brings the California coast to life through a blend of deep, moody hues and crystalline accents that mimic the ocean itself. Brittany of Blue Rose Pictures engages all five senses in this dreamy rhapsody in blue. Maybe we’re just holding on to summer, but we can quite literally feel the ocean breeze with this one! It’s hard to pick a favorite element of this shoot, but the delicate sea glass etched to perfection by Feather and Ivy is definitely a contender. Read on for more blissful details of this sunset soiree!

Malibu Coastal Bohemian Wedding Inspiration - http://ruffledblog.com/malibu-coastal-bohemian-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Brittany of Blue Rose Pictures: This shoot is all about that bohemian California beach bride. She is free and natural and beautiful in her own way. She is at home on the beach and with the waves and birds all around her. She incorporates natural colors and crystals into her wedding day decor. With hand dyed silk table runners and spun fiberglass mid century design chairs, this style is California cool.

The gorgeous Odelyne the ceremony gown was borrowed from Soltice Bride located in Venice on the hip Abbot Kinney Blvd. The natural quartz combs in her hair are all the way from The Netherlands from Naturae designs. Beach glass escort cards with white calligraphy add to the coastal design. The cake details are just so perfect! Zoom in and you will see :) Brush & Nib created beautiful watercolor invites and an 11×14 print to go with the shoot. We wanted to bring out the features and colors of the California Coast but keep it simple and elegant and not over styled.

Cavin Elizabeth

Aren’t familiar with pop-up weddings yet? You will be after you take a look at this one put together by Pink Pineapple Event Design. No detail was left uncovered, with a talented team of vendors including Cavin Elizabeth and Native Poppy dotting every I and crossing every T that came their way. On top of it all, the “bride”‘s dress just might be our new favorite!

From the event designer, Pink Pineapple Event Design: The latest trend to hit the wedding scene is the Luxury Pop-Up Wedding. Crafted by mastermind and Pink Pineapple Event Design Owner Nicole Osibodu, pop-up weddings are perfect for so many brides and grooms. Whether you’re planning an elopement and want something a little more special, or you just prefer small, intimate settings with a handful of friends and family, pop-up weddings are an ideal way to say “I do” with the one you love. And with services that range from super affordable to pretty pricey, there is truly a pop-up option for everyone.

Photographed by the talented Cavin Elizabeth, over a dozen of California’s fabulous and sought-after vendors brought their own niche to a pop-up wedding styled shoot in Rancho Santa Fe. With a venue secured through Venue Lust, the California retreat was a perfect location to highlight just how beautiful and intimate a pop-up wedding can be. House of Charley and Native Poppy teamed up to provide the floral eye candy that blended beautifully with the handpicked, jewel-toned dinnerware and goblets. The cherry on top of this elegant styled shoot was the delectable mini cake created by Sweet As Bliss. The “Dream Team” of vendors incorporated every detail down to the perfect drink stirrers and custom sugar cookies making this pop-up wedding an event every bride will dream about.

Colorful Pop-Up Wedding - http://ruffledblog.com/colorful-pop-up-wedding-inspiration

The styled wedding was created with the perfect balance of rustic and regal with a whitewashed farm table, sleek white chairs, and bold pops of color set against a lush green background in the outdoor space. The bride wore warm, wooden jewelry to contrast her elegant white dress, while her husband-to-be donned a perfectly cut navy suit keeping the styled nuptial ceremony more on the casual side. Nicole and her crew at Pink Pineapple Event Design own their style of the pop-up wedding concept. She knows how to deliver the perfect event for every bride and groom, no matter where in the world they want to be married or with what budget they have in mind. And with an officiant as part of a pop-up package, the only thing a couple needs to do is pick a date and location. There really is no limit to how simple or elaborate a pop-up wedding can be, which means this ultra customizable concept is the next big thing to hit the wedding scene.

Modern Romance Inspiration with Pops of Jewel Tones

Wedding Design

This wedding inspiration editorial has everything: a stunning backdrop that could double as fine art, an impromptu boudoir session, and a lovely modern grey tablescape with flashes of deep plum. It’s all so brilliant and we’re so thrilled Jillian Rose Photography snapped it all. Ede by Jacqueline was smitten by the location of the shoot and knew the exact direction to go to complement the outdoor space, highlighting the delightful architectural features. Autumn Vine Design thought to pair the various shades of blue with shades of purple, and it was such a swell move since the floral arrangements stick out so beautifully amidst all of the design elements.

boudoir session - photo by Jillian Rose Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-ideas-with-pops-of-jewel-tones

From the event planner, Ede by Jacqueline: The venue itself was so incredibly charming and unique. I loved Ebell’s high ceilings and unique chandeliers that were offering that outdoor feel. I thought having stronger jewel toned colors would pop in this space. Also, with Ebell’s stunning bridal suite, I knew I had to incorporate a soft and romantic boudoir session.

A boudoir session doesn’t always have to be a separate day of shooting. Don’t hesitate to ask your photographer about getting some choice snapshots of you before the heyday of hair and makeup come around. Pick a great spot with nature lighting and wear your favorite lingerie and most importantly, relax and let the camera snap those natural smiles!

During the planning process, I came across a stunning art piece made by Christine Olmstead and I knew I had to incorporate it in the shoot somehow. It was definitely not easy shipping it across the country, however I knew this would make this shoot come alive. I’ve become a fan of using stunning art pieces as backdrops for weddings, it can be so versatile and unique!

Chic Wedding with a Lush Floral Wall Backdrop

Elegant Weddings

If you’re ready to inject a little bit of chicness into your day, there’s no need to look any further than Yeva and Brett’s stylish California wedding. Wanting to add a show-stopping element to her day, Yeva and her friends set to work making an incredibly lush floral wall backdrop to accent the couple’s sweetheart table, and we frankly couldn’t be more obsessed with it. Everything was captured by Chad Annie Photography, and the inspiring floral decor came by way of Nora’s Designed Flowers!

Chic Wedding with a Lush Floral Wall Backdrop

From the photographers, Chad Annie Photography: It was an honor shooting this stunning bride and groom’s Wedding. The Bride, Yeva, designed the whole wedding herself and the groom played an amazing role in helping her execute everything the day of. Their sweetheart table was one of the best we’ve seen, complete with the lushest DIY floral wall backdrop.

They married at Saint Kateri Catholic Church where the family performed a traditional unity candle lighting. Cocktail hour and reception was held at the Newhall Mansion, a private estate that dates back to the 1800s. Yeva and Brett’s love for each other was clear. The Best Man gave a speech saying that “Yeva was the Girl of Brett’s dreams,” and by seeing the way he looked at her, there was no doubt this was true.

Heavenly Wedding Inspiration with a Floral Swing

Wedding Design

Gauzy and dreamy, this Avec L’Amour Photography and Delighted Images shoot is the bee’s knees. Thuy from Avec L’Amour Photography orchestrated the fine details of the shoot and went for a romantic, carefree, and innocent setup, with the sweetest floral swing we’ve seen. Pineapple Petals Studio added to the mix by having heaps and heaps of the prettiest pink fleurs: bougainvillea, roses, tulips, and peonies, to name a few. We can never resist falling for an ultra-feminine shoot like this one!

romantic wedding inspiration - http://ruffledblog.com/heavenly-wedding-inspiration-with-a-floral-swing

From the photographer and event designer, Avec L’Amour Photography: California has a natural, golden beauty that is, in one aspect, so harsh, yet also so mesmerizing. The Bay Area is surrounded by golden hills that are often untouched, but only an arms length away. We, a group of Bay Area creative wedding professionals, decided to take a mid-season respite and refill our creative cup with a dream shoot that features some new and different things with which to inspire our clients. This shoot was photographed on both film for its dreamy qualities and digital for expediency. We combined the mediums in this gallery to show brides the seamless blending of hybrid photography, which allows for both cost effective services and true film range.

Before iPads and Pokemon GO, tree swings and warm afternoon breezes were one of the best memories of childhood summers. The quintessential symbol of carefree and happy, we incorporated a handmade rope swing with gorgeous vining bougainvillea and passion flower as a focal point for our model. To round out the look, we added vintage lanterns styled with tree of heaven clusters and more bougainvillea. Finding a hill with a lone, sturdy oak tree to provide an arm and canopy was the finishing touch that made it all feel romantic and heavenly!

The model’s pink champagne two piece dress is perfectly elegant yet playful with the beaded, French vintage inspired cropped camisole and a skirt made of layers upon layers of soft, lightweight tulle. Her light coverage, natural makeup look and loosely arrange low up-do accented with gorgeous handmade hair pieces gives her an organic, effortless look of beauty. Two bouquets were made to compliment this bride’s look — a sweet, but understated romantic arrangement and a more vibrant and textured bouquet. Both looks use the same color family, but feature different levels of vibrancy. Similarly, the menu and invitations showcase a watercolor floral scheme with gold flecked hand lettering to update traditional wedding paper design.

The tablescape is the real life embodiment of our vision of a perfect romantic dinner al fresco. Vintage French bistro chairs were given romantic flare when adorned with olive leaves and budding olives, while delicate, paper thin fuchsia bougainvillea added a feminine touch. The overflowing centerpiece of loosely arranged varieties of roses, tulips, tree of heaven, raspberries, and sweet peas made the rosé wine and lavender buds that much sweeter to sip! Because every dinner should end on a sweet note, the simple, two layered cake decorated with the most organic spray of jasmine vines and a single dusky pink lisianthus could not be more enticing!

Colorful Modern Palm Springs Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Gideon Photography

Setting eyes on this wedding, we immediately thought it was just so fun: fun to look at and we’re sure that it was fun to be at, too! Gideon Photography captured this brightly-colored and modern Palm Springs wedding to our delight and it was clear that no design stone was left unturned by Amorology when it came to Katie Leclerc (of TV’s “Switched at Birth”) and Brian Habecost’s West Coast wedding. Pops of color were all over the place, from the darling bridesmaids’ dresses and bouquets by Twigg Botanicals, to that ultra-creative dessert table. This wedding is a bright pastel lover’s dream!

colorful wedding lounge areas - photo by Gideon Photography http://ruffledblog.com/colorful-modern-palm-springs-wedding

From the event designers, Amorology: We teamed up with Backup Backdrops to create three fun displays for ceremony, escort and dessert. Our simple ceremony wall with Plexiglas arrows alluded to our couple’s love of cycling and the idea of sharing the road together. Inspired by their love for playing Cards Against Humanity, we couldn’t help but make a “Katie and Brian Against Humanity” escort display! We had Peanut Press help us design and create oversized playing cards that served as the table names and had fill in the blank statements. Smaller playing cards were placed at our escort wall and held the guests names on one side and a noun listed on the other side. Guests were invited to find their table by pairing their card with the best matched table name. How fun is that? It was such a great way to get guests moving, talking and laughing at their seats! For dessert, we collaborated with Hey There Cupcake and Backup Backdrops again to display an array of yummy treats underneath a bicycle backdrop as another nod to Katie and Brian’s love for biking together.

During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed Cactus Coolers, colorful popsicles from Si Paletas and delicious bites from Room Forty. The popsicles were a life saver during the hot summer weather in Palm Springs! For the head dining table, we created a custom table runner hand painted by Peanut Press and adorned with living fruit and florals by Twigg Botanicals. And the mid-century tables from Folklore Vintage Rentals were a perfect match for the tabletop prettiness from Hostess Haven. Bicycle shaped save-the-dates from Pitbulls and Posies tied our cycling theme together and were complimented by bright, geometric custom stationary by Peanut Press.

Spring Crossroads Estate Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Brooke Borough

Lizzie and Paul’s wedding is one of the most darling things we’ve seen today, and Brooke Borough captured all of it in its glory. This California fête in the springtime by Jill & Co Events is radiating in its whimsical flashes of pink with Anna le Pley Taylor‘s floral goodness ranging from the bride’s dainty bouquet to those creations lining the ceremony aisle. One thing we have to comment on: vintage barns can rock ceiling draping like no other.

From the event coordinator, Jill & Co Events: Lizzie & Paul tied the knot at a beautiful estate in Los Olivos, CA – Crossroads Estate, a Foley Family Wines property. Mid spring they said their “I Do’s” underneath an old oak tree at the base of rolling hills surrounded by 250 of their loved ones. The bride and her mother were meticulous with design details and strove to truly bring the outdoors into the vintage barn. Soft drapery on the poles of the barn with garlands flowing up and down drapes truly brought this outdoor feel alive.

The strewn market lights and chandelier over the dance floor softened up the barn and gave it elements of warm dimension. A trio played during cocktail hour al fresco, where guests gave heart felt speeches to the newlyweds. This couple chose a different direction than your typical sit down dinner, and offered numerous delicious food stations in a cocktail style meal, with guests mingling about, offering a unique guest experience. The night fluidly continued into hours of dancing with an incredible live band, compliments of the best friend of the groom and lead musician. Lizzie & Paul capped the night off with a bottle of champagne and jumped into a romantic vintage car before speeding off to their honeymoon and life as husband and wife!

Romantic Redwoods Wedding

Rustic Weddings

The California redwoods are such impressive creations of nature, and in all of their majesty, it’s no wonder why so many couples choose to get hitched there. It’s gorgeous! Victoria Carlson Photography snapped Lindsay and Eugene’s romantic wedding day to our delight. For color choices, Lindsay wanted to keep the focal point on all of the organic elements around, so a clean neutral palette with hints of greys and blues were important. There’s nothing more timeless than a pairing of white and green florals and root & riot did a fantastic job creating such complementary pieces. We give this wedding an A-plus!

California weddings - http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-redwoods-wedding

From the bride, Lindsay: Whenever my husband and I talked about getting married, we always knew we would say “I do” beneath the redwoods. My husband and I love being outdoors in nature, but one of our favorite places to be is amongst the trees. We wanted something simple, elegant, and timeless, yet also laid back and relaxed. My husband and I are not formal people by any means, so it was important for us to have an environment that was comfortable for our guests. Whenever people would ask me about the vibe of my wedding I would tell them, “it’s going to be a magical, romantic forest wedding!” I really feel like I accomplished this! But some more adjectives I used to describe the day were: ethereal and woodsy. Before I purchased ANYTHING I would make sure it stayed true to these descriptions.

Bouquet recipeMock-orange, white roses, white peonies, ferns… to name a few! My florists were amazing! I sent them a few inspiration photos that I found off Pinterest, and my task to them was to make me a beautiful, big, bouquet full of white flowers and ferns.

I chose a neutral color scheme and I feel like that perfectly complemented the gorgeous setting and the feel of the day. I knew I wanted my bridesmaids in different dresses and different colors, but was still somewhat particular on the dresses they chose. I ended up giving them 10-15 different dresses to choose from and everyone chose the dress that I wanted for them (without me saying a thing!). I thought they all looked beautiful! For the men, I think my groom looks so handsome in navy, so we found a gorgeous slate blue tux for him. He wanted to be in something different than his groomsmen, so we chose grey suits with navy ties for the rest of the guys!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Stay true to you. It sounds cliché, but it is so easy to lose sight of you and your partner during the craziness of wedding planning. Remember that this day is about the two of you and the celebration of your love and commitment to each other – that is all that matters. I loved my wedding day and it went perfect, despite all the things that actually “went wrong” (like it raining on wedding day for our outdoor wedding!) But what I loved the most and what I remember the most are all the amazing moments shared between my husband and me.

Don’t worry about making everyone else happy and just worry about making you and your groom as happy as you can be! Also, we highly encourage a first look. I know it’s not traditional, but aside from saying our vows during our ceremony, our first look was the most special moment. I can’t even explain in words how beautiful that moment was, and one of the only moments of the day where it was just the two of us.

A Post-Elopement Reception at SmogShoppe

Elopements

We’ve shared quite a few elopements on Ruffled through the years, but it’s not often we get to take a peek at the celebrations that follow once you come home and spread the news to friends and family. Tatiana and William chose to elope in Georgia, but celebrated back in Los Angeles with Aaron Young Photography, Constance Curtis, and Holly Flora in tow creating endless magic for all to see.

a post-elopement reception at SmogShoppe

From the wedding planner, Constance Curtis Events: It was important to William (groom) and Tatiana (bride) to have a small intimate ceremony with only their immediate family. They did, however, still want to celebrate with all their extended family and friends. So as the wedding planning began, they decided to keep the intimate ceremony and the reception separate. The couple wed in Athens, Georgia and then celebrated their marriage at the SmogShoppe in Los Angeles, California, a few weeks later.

William and Tatiana wanted to create a fun party for all their friends traveling near and far. Many of their friends had never visited Los Angeles so picking a venue centrally located was important to them. It allowed their guests to stay in the city and explore. Entertainment was one of the most important elements for them. The couple has a favorite DJ they follow in Georgia so they decided to fly him out for the celebration. The couple never left the dance floor!

Mid-Century Mod Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Bright colors, a fun and festive setting, and a beautiful couple are what makes this wedding inspiration so great to look at. This San Francisco wedding event was inspired by the coolness of the mod 1960s and we can’t blame them! It was a lively time and everything was as vibrant and energetic as it could be. Don’t miss the eye-popping shades of aqua and orange, paired with some incredible details from florals to that retro wedding cake that looks almost too good to eat.

Romantic Jewel Toned Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Anna Delores

For some honest-to-goodness, girly-girl wedding inspiration, you really have to look no further than this beautiful berry-toned fête coming straight from the lens of Anna Delores. Nikki and Rob chose a day of sparkle, the dreamiest shades of pink and purple you could imagine, and a classic country feel. We tip our hats off to Vanessa Noel Events for making sure all of the loveliness of their big day was everything they imagined!

From the event designer, Vanessa Noel Events: Nikki is a girly girl–pink, sparkle, and false lashes are a few of this girl’s favorite things! She and Rob are also both small town dwellers who love the slower pace of a little country living. They chose Historic Seven Sycamores Ranch as the backdrop for their sweet wedding and we set out to glam it up just the right amount.

Nikki and Rob wanted their wedding to feel fun, vibrant, and family-centric so we chose to embrace the colors of spring and created a color palette of berry tones that was both cheerful and dramatic. We used accents of metallic gold, ruffles, and a chandelier to give just the perfect touch of girly glam. We played a lot with combining linens to provide extra interest and texture with the head table as the main focal point draped in a fun and flirty ruffled linen.

One of my favorite details was the water goblets at the head table. Nikki’s mother is an avid collector of the goblets from the famous Madonna Inn. As a nod to her, we used her collection on the head table and Nikki hand-picked a colored goblet for each member of the bridal party. As a tribute to Nikki’s German Mennonite heritage, baskets of homemade zweibach (German bread) greeted guests as they sat at their tables and each guest took home a box of pfeffernüsse, made from her grandmother’s recipe.

Rain on your wedding day is never a fun reality, but in this case, it couldn’t have worked out more beautifully. Instead of the original plan to use the garden space for dinner, guests dined in the venue’s glass barn, which provided a gorgeous backdrop of rustic elegance. The various wood tones throughout the venue–in the glass barn and in the garden, were also inspirations for keeping the design down to earth and comfortable. Accents like wood crates and dark wood chairs contrasted the metallic and luxe details for a perfectly balanced design.

Hummingbird Nest Ranch Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

Like the bride said, her wedding had the flower wall of her dreams. Once you see it, you’ll understand why it’s ours too! Matt and Danielle’s California wedding was a dream and thanks to Katie Shuler Photography, we’re able to share all of the bright colors, elegant wedding details from LB Event Planning, and the must-see flower wall and other fantastic florals by Events by Sammy.

From the bride, Danielle: I have always envisioned having a tent reception! The feel is so classic and elegant but also very warm and intimate because of the added nature/garden feel — we both loved that. Matt and I wanted a formal wedding, but one that would be reflective of us as a couple, by remaining personal, and fun! We wanted our wedding to also be elegant, classic, warm, personal, timeless, and garden chic. We were able to achieve that exact vision with the help of my mom, sister and LB Events.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Stay true to yourselves! If your day reflects you as a couple, it will be a memorable day for everybody, no matter what. For us, the best touches were the personal ones. We had Matt’s best childhood friend marry us, we wrote our own vows, and I surprised Matt with a visit from our labradoodle during bridal portraits. Unbeknownst to us at the time, our favorite intimate moments were also recognized, and acknowledged, by our family and friends as being the most special. Hire a photographer that you gel with! Matt and I instantly clicked with Katie. Her relational skills, I think, is one of her gifts as a photographer, aside from her insanely talented eye. By the end of the experience we felt like the best of friends — comfortable and ourselves in front of her lens. We absolutely cherish our wedding photos and I know our relationship with our photographer was a big factor.

Language of Flowers Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Hanna Photography

I recall the first time I heard about the meanings of flowers and almost immediately, I was captivated by it. The gesture of using certain flowers in a wedding bouquet to symbolize important characteristics is just so dreamy and romantic. Stemming from a novel, Festive Event Planning used the shoot concept to its full potential. With Hanna Photography commanding the camera, it’s no shocker that the whole editorial and the darling florals by Emlily Floral Design makes this shoot so alluring to look at.

romantic wedding dresses - photo by Hanna Photography http://ruffledblog.com/language-of-flowers-wedding-editorial

From the event designer, Festive Event Planning:
The inspiration behind the shoot stemmed from the novel “The Language of Flowers,” by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, in which a young girl turns to flowers as a source of creativity and identity in the midst of trials. Her skills go beyond her ability to create beautiful arrangements to also include her aptitude for weaving together florals with meanings and purposes specific to the recipient.

vintage style centerpieces - photo by Hanna Photography http://ruffledblog.com/language-of-flowers-wedding-editorial

orange taper candles - photo by Hanna Photography http://ruffledblog.com/language-of-flowers-wedding-editorial

In this way, I was compelled to create a story through the language and meaning of flowers – utilizing flowers that conveyed messages pertinent to love and marriage. Emily of Emlily Floral Design beautifully delved into this concept with arrangements of lavender roses (enchantment), white roses (purity), ferns (sincerity) sweetpeas (pleasure) and white clovers (think of me), garlands of ivy (fidelity/marriage) and passion vine, and assortments of yellow tulips (helpless love), veronica (fidelity), and lamb’s ear (softness/support), which hung overhead.

With the reception table, I wanted to exude the feeling of wildness meeting elegance, with natural garlands running across the table that was purposefully adorned with handmade beeswax candles and linens hand dyed using fruits and flowers. Tableware by Pretty Vintage Rentals included handpainted salad plates, gold-tone flatware and mismatched crystal pressed glass stemware.

The invitations by Cecile’s Paper Co. embodied this story of flowers with a mix of bold prints and colors with soft letterpress lettering, while the three-tier cake by Frost It Cakery took the appearance of a blossoming rose. Additional details included the flower satchet favors, which were handcrafted using lavender and spray roses, and gilded jewelry by BHLDN. The intimate greenhouse of Stella Mare’s and a rose garden served as our backdrops, perfectly complimenting the natural feel of the day. In all, I wanted to tell a story with this shoot – a story of beauty, creativity and love.

Modern and Linear Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

We see what stylists Taylor and Katherine from Aisle Planner mean when they laid eyes on the venue for this place: it’s the perfect spot for creativity to run rampant and theirs sure did with this trendy, contemporary wedding shoot by Cavin Elizabeth Photography. It’s full of razor-sharp lines, clean and bright colors, and just the slightest dash of romance from the florals by The Flower Shop; because we all need a dash of romance, right?

Modern and Linear Wedding Inspiration - photo by Cavin Elizabeth Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-and-linear-geometric-wedding-inspiration

From the stylists, Taylor Hollman and Katherine Oyer from Aisle Planner: Sharp geometrics, defined lines and a stark black-and-white palette come together to create modern wedding inspo like you’ve never seen in this perfectly styled shoot. The Romantik Studio made for a killer setting—their clean-slate studio provided stylists Tayler Hollman and Katherine Oyer of Aisle Planner the perfect blank canvas to play with, and Cavin of Cavin Elizabeth Photography captured their vision beautifully. Hollman and Oyer dressed the bride-for-the-day in an ethereal pleated piece from The Dress Theory that softened up the sharpness of the shoot perfectly, and really set the scene for what we can only describe as oh-so-chic modern romance.

Lucky To Be In Love created a marbled invitation suite as mesmerizing as they come, and Amy Samuel of The Flower Shop crafted wild, sprawling floral arrangements that managed to feel both sharp and soft. Greenery as bright as it was lush played perfectly against soft white roses—and both were complemented by pops of pink and dusty lavender ranunculi.

The oh-so dreamy florals sat pretty against a scene that was sharp and super defined. The tablescape embodied the definition of modern with its black-and-white palette brought to life through polygon plates and place mats boasting oh-so-pretty patterns. The gold chairs provided by Folklore Rentals where the show-stopping and added modern and masculine lines to the scene. Gold flatware and airy gold-wire chairs added a touch of metallic that really brought the shoot to life, and—our favorite part—Jenny Wenny Cakes handcrafted a two-tiered cake that encompassed the aesthetic of the entire scene in one (super tasty) treat. The stylish spread was complete with unbelievable poke plate provided by Waters Catering and Fine Foods—and blackberry mojitos we’re still washing it all down.

Romantic California Oceanside Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Anna Delores

When you come across a wedding venue that’s got ridiculously beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean, you fall in love with it almost immediately. We can’t blame Tennesseans Liz and Anton for jumping at the chance to get married here; it’s so surreal! Anna Delores was there to snap all of the sublime views, along with the romantic, minimalist design that the couple wanted Wedding Kate to execute. With the help of the beautiful peony-and-rose arrangements from Coco Rose Design, we think Liz and Anton’s wedding vision came to life ten-fold.

From the event planner and designer, Katie: From the moment I found out Liz’s wedding was on the same day as my 30th birthday, I just had to be part of it. Her sweet Tennessee accent is as intoxicating as sweet tea and her warm, welcoming demeanor is pure southern belle. Liz fell in love with the Bacara Resort and Spa and knew that the way she wanted to celebrate was with her closest friends and family in beautiful Santa Barbara. The couple loved how reminiscent it was of Napa but with incredible ocean views to write home about. The wedding day arrived with moody skies and lots of excitement. We kept the wine country feeling through her design plans, incorporating organic elements through florals and linen selections.

The ceremony was perched above the pacific, with vast sweeping views of the California coastline. We used lots of greens and white blooms to accent the property’s natural beauty, with an alter that allowed the focus to be on the bride and groom. We designed the reception in the resort’s Spa Cafe, which features a beautiful stacked stone accent wall and stunning architectural details. Guests enjoyed a dinner focused around wine pairings, with a locally sourced menu. Dancing went late into the night with a special “Happy Birthday” song by the bride for her wedding planner. Lucky me!

From the bride, Liz: For our wedding, we wanted something romantic and rustic and we didn’t want it to be very formal. We went with an all-white theme for the colors with very minimal color elsewhere. The idea was that everything was off-white or cream with a little green from the flowers.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My biggest word of advice would be to hire a wedding planner! It is a must! We couldn’t have done it without Katie Seefeldt. She took care of everything and made the entire process run smoothly. We live in Memphis, Tennessee so having somebody there in California was crucial.

Bougainvillea Estate Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

The Melideos

I can admit it; my love for bougainvillea is near obsessive at this point. Fluffy and bright pink, it’s the perfect accent for every tropical climate. Wisely, Andrea and Brian chose to use the blooms throughout their wedding day decor with help from Lace & Likes and Siren Floral Co.. Their day was full of geometric and handmade accents in the absolute chicest boho way possible, and The Melideos captured everything wonderfully — as they always do!

Colorful Ironstone Vineyards Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Erin Milnik

An elegant wedding in the countryside can definitely be styled to how you want it, so when Cat and John were planning their California vineyard nuptials, they wanted heaps of color and a lovely dash of whimsy thrown in for good measure. Their florist, Rare Palette, went all out in designing the wedding blooms, using wondrous combinations of peonies, tulips, and garden roses that got our hearts racing. We’re so glad Erin Milnik was there to capture this day!

From the bride, Cat: We imagined an elegant wedding in the country — classic, vintage, romantic, rustic. Our color scheme was navy with pops of orange, pinks, golden yellow, and greens. We had some DIY projects, including handcrafted petal cones, a custom welcome sign and seating chart made from reclaimed pallets and stained by John, our table number holders and table numbers, the weathered arbor (steel wool, vinegar, and black tea stain), seed packet name cards, and the ribbon garland on cake table.

From the photographer, Erin MilnikI’m thrilled to be sharing John and Cat’s wedding day with you! I met the couple in a coffee shop in Murphy’s California… the couple was staying in a cabin nearby, had been wine tasting, and decided they loved Ironstone Vineyards so much that they ended up booking it for their wedding venue. John is a design director at Clif Bar so the wedding would be full of great design and lots of color.

Santa Barbara Elopement

Elopements

No matter the day of the week, the time of the year, a sweet elopement with just an officiant and a photographer in tow will tug at our heartstrings. Just take Eric and Patricia’s elopement — Hanh Nguyen Photography was there to capture the celebration, which was simple but no less beautiful with an all-orchid bouquet from Lace & Stems and a beautifully detailed wedding gown.

Santa Barbara Elopement - photo by Hanh Nguyen Photography http://ruffledblog.com/santa-barbara-elopement

From the photographer, Hanh Nguyen Photography: There’s just something so lovely about elopements. Of course, wedding days are already all about the couple, but when it’s only the bride and groom, it truly becomes just about them. Photographing Eric and Patricia’s elopement was a very unique experience and I loved every moment of it. I felt honored as they completely trusted me to capture the day in my vision. It was great having control of everything; no timelines, guests or other vendors we had to worry about. I just had to capture that day for their memories. And when you have an awesome couple like Eric and Patricia, it sure makes things easier for me.

They were great sports the entire time and down for anything, whether it was standing on the edge of a cliff or holding a tough pose long enough for me to get the perfect angle. And in the beautiful Santa Barbara landscape as our backdrop and we had all the ingredients for a wonderful elopement. In the end, I love how everything turned out and think the pictures really capture the emotions of that day. I hope Eric and Patricia can look back on the pictures and re-live all their passion, laughs and nerves from their wedding day.

Floral-Filled Carondelet House Wedding

Romantic Weddings

No matter how many houses we see at Carondelet House, it never loses its appeal. It was a perfect fit for Rachel and David’s wedding captured by Valorie Darling Photography, which was a day full of some of the most striking hot pink flowers arranged by The Little Branch. Orange Blossom Special Events truly outdid themselves with the coordination on this one!

Floral-Filled Carondelet House Wedding - photo by Valorie Darling Photography http://ruffledblog.com/floral-filled-carondelet-house-wedding

From the bride, Rachel: We got engaged 6/21/14. David planned an amazing surprise proposal at the Abbey (because it was where we had our first kiss). He tried to convince me we have to go for a friend’s birthday. When we got there he told me to keep walking toward the back and I finally came to a stand still when I got to an empty room with two huge cameras, roses and champagne. After, he surprised me with an engagement party (80 of our family/friends) at a friend’s store. We had the BEST night and left a few days later for Italy and Israel for two weeks to celebrate.

Catalina Point Oceanview Wedding

Romantic Weddings

It was just impossible to not be so enamored with this west coast wedding. Not only are the ocean views of the Pacific sheer bliss, but the heaps and heaps of purple and silver are incredible. Dave Richards Photography was thankfully present to capture the day, and every detail of this wedding was on point thanks to the planning expertise of Katie over at Bob Gail Special Events. Filling the reception with even more purple to look at, Hollyflora went wild with the arrangements of very classic lavender and plum-colored blooms. The pretty in this California wedding is almost too much to handle!

From the bride, Alexa: We wanted to embrace the natural elements of the resort but also make it feel like a west coast fall, which is why we went with vibrant purples and a classic, timeless feel. We went with a variety of purples as our main color with touches of silver.

As soon as I hear there’s a bride with blue hair, I get a little skip in my step. Add to that an equally stylish wedding party in this styled shoot from Kelsea Holder Photography and The Queen’s Bees, and how could you possibly go wrong? The flowers from eden floral slo are a peachy pink and yellow dream come true, tied together with long cascading ribbons and arranged in a way that’s just as fun and unique as the bride herself.

From Jennifer Hix of The Queens Bees: I really wanted to do something different and have it about not just the bride and groom but the family and friends around them. I really look at weddings as a celebration of not just a union between two people, but really a marriage of family and friends, the people who shaped, encouraged, and challenged you to help make you the person you are. I wanted it be a love letter back to the loved ones and a true celebration of all. And with creativity sparking left and right, it became the “Something Blue” shoot.

Charming California Engagement Session

Engagement Sessions

This engagement session here is seriously the stuff dreams are made of. It’s heartfelt, it’s got a beautiful couple, and it’s got Angelica Chang Photography capturing it all. When we came across Eunice and Matt’s charming California engagement session in Malibu, we fawned over everything from their sweet Thailand proposal at the Yee Peng Lana Lantern Festival to their fashion-forward sartorial choices. Not to mention, the outdoor setting for this e-sesh is so unreal and absolutely breathtaking.

From the bride, Eunice: For our engagement session, we envisioned a soft, rustic, and beachy session with lots of lace and color coordination! We’re getting married at the 1909 in Topanga Canyon in September, so we wanted everything to flow and match thoroughly! We truly wanted our pictures to capture our love and rustic classy style.   Read more

Santa Barbara Sunset Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Milton Photography

The lovely sunsets on the west coast are always inspirational and they bring the most brilliant shades of pinks, blues, oranges, and tints of gold peeking out. What I love about this Milton Photography shoot is not only did WINK! Weddings style it to mimic those gorgeous colors, but the photos themselves are bathed in those same hues. Such artistry right there! Speaking of artistry, how beautiful are those blooms from CocoRose Design? Here’s a great tip to keep in mind: one of the best places to infuse color in a wedding (or a shoot!) is through the florals!

From the event designers, WINK! Weddings: When Pantone announced their colors of the year, we knew that while beautiful, they could pose a challenge stylistically for couples. Rose Quartz and Serenity are two colors that have bold, set definitions in the minds of many, and we really wanted to focus on using them in a way that wasn’t so black and white. Varying tones of blushes and blues helped bring this idea to life, along with incorporating the natural elements and textures of our amazing backdrop. We also wanted to showcase the versatility of this pallet, and we did this by offering alternate table top elements but keeping key pieces like centerpieces, tables, and large furniture items the same. Take all these elements, add the golden light, cotton candy skies, and Justine Milton, and you end up with a dreamy styled shoot that will inspire you beyond 2016.

Desert Bloom Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

There’s nothing quite like the boho wedding trend lately. It’s got equal parts glamour, vintage, and modern all rolled into one very pretty wedding package. When you’re doing a shoot with this inspiration style in mind, it’s almost a must to host it in the desert. In this Jennifer Fujikawa Photography shoot, this concept came to life and just bloomed. Thanks to the lovely lace dresses and the wonderful tablescape, this shoot had its fair share of elegance while keeping with the earthy, desert vibe. Naturally, FlorUnique took to the surroundings as inspiration and brought in bouquets decorated with succulents, baby pink roses and peonies, protea, and accents like peach hypericum berries and blue thistle. No matter what your style is, this inspiration shoot is one to definitely check out!

From the photographer, Jennifer Fujikawa Photography: This is an elegant desert wedding inspiration shoot at Joshua Tree for the bride with a more elegant style that still wants to embrace the desert vibe and its natural surroundings. The dresses are lovely lace with a soft mint pastel for the bridesmaid and the table settings are elegant gold/white with blue crystal that echoes the colors of the desert.

Cool Teal Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Sanaz Photography

When the weather is lovely outside, it’s natural to take wedding inspiration cues from the outdoors. In this shoot produced by Be Inspired PR with photos from Sanaz PhotographyDeanna Nash EventsFoxtail Florals, and the awesome team of vendors that collaborated together reined in ideas from the cool blues and greens of the ocean and those lazy days spent by the water, soaking up the sun. That sounds so romantic, doesn’t it?

From the event planner, Deanna Nash Events: With summer fast approaching, our minds turn to warm breezes and the crystal blue and green waters of the summer seas. For this styled shoot, we wanted to recreate the feeling and romance of summer days spent on the water paired with our favorite wedding details. To add a twist of the unexpected, we joined the water-colored hues of the sea with an industrial background to create a fun wedding that could be re-imagined in any setting.

San Diego Spring Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

What a delight this wedding was from Victoria Carlson Photography! Rebecca and John’s San Diego wedding is chock-full of goodies and details, and we love all of the full-of-life colors that they used: perfect for their springtime wedding! Their chic bohemian wedding day fused together oranges, pinks, and yellows into the funnest ways imaginable. To aid in the color palette, The Slate Barn and Gardens dished out beautiful floral arrangements, namely the bride’s glorious flower crown and bouquet. We can’t say enough how much this boho glam wedding caught our eye!

From the bride, Rebecca: John and I met while I was living in Washington state (I had moved there after college). We started dating in March 2014, and in April I found out that I had been accepted into San Diego State University’s graduate program in liberal arts and sciences. This was a bittersweet moment for John and I because we had just started dating and I had just found out that I was moving back home in a few short months. So without hesitation and much to my surprise and delight, he told me that he decided he would be moving down to California with me because he loved me and wanted to marry me. And so he did, and we were engaged just six months after we moved!
