April Showers Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

We just love when vendors can take a negative and turn it into something so positively beautiful. Event stylist Jessica of Love Bird Style designed an inspiration shoot for a couple who were victims of last year’s flood in Nashville, Tennessee. We adore the idea of turning this into a bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, or even a wedding reception! Our thanks also goes out to Ulmer Studios for the wonderful photographs.

From the stylist, Jessica: We wanted to create an event that embraced the showers that come with spring and the new life that it brings. We chose to host a “shower” for a couple who were victims of the Nashville flood exactly one year ago. This “shower” theme could easily translate to an engagement party, rehearsal dinner, wedding or even a re-shoot if it does rain on your special day!

Ski Lodge Intimate Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Kirsten and Seth were married in a bohemian, cozy, laid back ceremony at a ski lodge this fall surrounded by family and friends. They handled ALL the details themselves and turned the Canyon Ski Lodge into a cozy, romantic venue where they (personally) served all of their guesst a hearty meal. I love Kirsten’s pretty and warm wedding day outfit- no frills or pomp, just some vintage, natural goodness and she looks stunning. The couple handmade all the details and all in just a two month engagement! Thanks to Stephanie Koo for sending over the amazing images.

From the gorgeous bride. I really wanted our wedding to represent who we we were. I wanted it to feel relaxed, genuine, heartfelt, a bit rustic and a little bohemian, while still feeling put together. And fun! Lots of fun.

I didn’t have a clear vision of what I wanted in a wedding dress. All I knew was I wanted lace. The stores in town didn’t have what I was looking for, and with not much time, I couldn’t order anything in. My aunt suggested a non-bridal store in Edmonton, called The Tattered Rose. Seth and I drove up that morning, tried one on, and it was perfect! No alterations or anything. The owner said it came over from the UK and was made around 1960.

We bought all our dishes, serving plates, old mason jars for candles, vases and photo frames at local thrift stores around Central Alberta, and our water glasses and wine glasses at Ikea. Doing so was much more time consuming but way cheaper. I made table runners out of old sheets in a vintage pattern from a thrift store.

I made and canned, all our apple butter for our favours, and Seth peeled all the apples. I cut from old scraps of fabric, sheets and whatever else i could find to make the covers on the tops of the jars.

DIY Ring Bearer Bow Tie

DIY Projects

Photos by:

Wow, do we have a busy day today. Luckily for me I am loving every minute of posting these DIY entries! Next up is an easy to make bow tie Abbi made for a ring bearer, but it could be made for adults as well. How cute is her model?

What you’ll need:
– Vintage fabric
– Ribbon to match the fabric (http://www.cheapribbons.com/products.html )
– A sew-on snap
– Thread

DIY Vintage floral fabric bow tie

Instructions:
Step 1: Cut your fabric to 4 ½ inches by 8 inches.

Step 2: Fold in half length wise with the right sides together and sew a ½ inch seam. This will make a tube that you need to turn right side out.

Step 3: Take your fabric tube and press it flat with the seam in the middle of the back.

Step 4: Now fold the tube in half with the seam side out and take a ½ inch seam to make the tube into a circle. Turn it so the seam is on the inside.
Step 5: Flatten it with the seam in the middle of the back and then scrunch it up in the middle to make it look like a bowtie. Wrap a piece of ribbon around it and sew it in place.

Step 6: Measure the wearer’s neck and cut a piece of ribbon long enough to go around plus 1 inch for overlapping and folding over.

Step 7: Sew one end of the ribbon to the ribbon on the back of the bow tie. Also sew one side of the snap in place there.

Step 8: At the other end fold over the ribbon ½ inch for stability and sew the other side of the snap on there.

An Intimate Southern Affair

Design Inspiration, Wedding Design

Photos by:

Though this is a concept shoot, I still have to remind myself that it’s not a real wedding. It looks so genuine – thanks to the down to earth design and Sheila’s close friends who made it look so much fun. Both Hayley Green and Sheila Goode, the wonderful photographers behind the lens, are from Nashville. They wanted an intimate Southern feel that they saw frequently back home. I think they nailed it! I am specially loving the table decor, sans tablecloth and ribbons decorating the back of the chairs. Old rugs instead of a traditional dance floor is not only beautiful to look at, but comfortable to kick your heels off and dance the night away. The bridesmaid dresses were mismatched patterns of red and white, picking up from the red sash that the bride wore. I could go on and on.

From Sheila:
We all wanted to show brides that they can have a wonderful wedding with very little expense. All that is needed is some creative ideas, a field, a wonderful florist that will put together your vision with an organic feel. The feeling of intimacy, joy and beauty is want we wanted to convey.

The Sartorialist is a huge source for groom style ideas. Here are some of my favorites:

Glenplaid suit and striped shirt combo. Loving the mix of patterns on the photo on the left.

I usually don’t care as much about black suit ensembles, but I love how sharp these two look:

These short ankle pants are not formal wedding attire per se, but they would look so cool for a casual summer wedding.
