Charming California Engagement Session

Engagement Sessions

This engagement session here is seriously the stuff dreams are made of. It’s heartfelt, it’s got a beautiful couple, and it’s got Angelica Chang Photography capturing it all. When we came across Eunice and Matt’s charming California engagement session in Malibu, we fawned over everything from their sweet Thailand proposal at the Yee Peng Lana Lantern Festival to their fashion-forward sartorial choices. Not to mention, the outdoor setting for this e-sesh is so unreal and absolutely breathtaking.

From the bride, Eunice: For our engagement session, we envisioned a soft, rustic, and beachy session with lots of lace and color coordination! We’re getting married at the 1909 in Topanga Canyon in September, so we wanted everything to flow and match thoroughly! We truly wanted our pictures to capture our love and rustic classy style.   Read more

Seaside Wedding Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

Dreaming of a beach wedding? Today’s styled shoot from John Schnack Photography, Nicole George Event Planning & Design, Lauren Sharon Vintage Rentals, and Native Poppy has you covered. The team uses all of the beach’s natural offerings to create a ceremony and tablescape that’s utterly inspired, including a ceremony arch that we love so much, we wish we could move it right into our own homes!

seaside wedding inspiration shoot - photo by John Schnack Photography http://ruffledblog.com/seaside-wedding-inspiration-shoot

From the event designer, Nicole George Event Planning & Design: I wanted to create an elegant coastal inspiration unlike typical beach styled shoots. We focused on an ethereal, modern, and clean design with raw textures, a natural color palette of cool blues and tans, and gold and brass details. It was important for us to show couples that you don’t need flowers to create a beautiful event and designing around your landscape is key. Instead, we used a lot of glass bottles, driftwood, and fishing ropes and nets to adorn our tabletop and ceremony. Sea-grass, textural lounge furniture, and draping linens softened the look. My favorite part was balancing the rich landscape with delicate, sea-themed details.

Nordic Beach Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Now that it’s starting to get warmed, we’re even more excited to see some seriously pretty beach wedding inspiration. This shoot from Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa and Niche Event Stylists uses a color palette of icy blues and soft pinks (perfect for Pantone’s Color of the Year combination) paired with a flowy tulle gown for a look that’s delicate and romantic in all the right places.

From the photographer, Simply Sweet Photography by Nomo Akisawa: Our inspiration for this creative shoot was inspired by a combination of the show the Vikings and our beautiful terrariums that we implemented into our decor. We filmed this shoot on a very cold January afternoon on a beautiful beach overlooking the ocean. Our model wore a custom made blue gown and carried a loose romantic bouquet featuring greenery and garden roses. Her hair and makeup were kept very natural and Nordic looking to give us that romantic look we were after.

Spanish bohemian beach inspiration - photo by Charlotte van den Berg http://ruffledblog.com/spanish-bohemian-beach-inspiration

From the event designers, Love & Memories: On Tuesday, the 6th of October 2015, we set up a styled shoot in Spain at the Costa Brava. We named the styled shoot “Boho at the Beach”. We really love the bohemian style and we really thought it could be a very nice setting. So, we had to think of something unique. By getting inspiration and being creative, we started to come up with ideas that combine new trends and our own style. The colours we chose for this shoot were mainly stonewashed green and coral combined with soft pink and white.

Florida Keys Destination Wedding

Easy Romantic Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Ben Q Photography

What better way to end the week than with pretty brides on a beach? This inspiration shoot comes from Ben Q Photography, Events by Kristin, and R Love Floral Designs, who created this waterside scene full of lush floral design, delicious treats, and three lovely brides decked out in stunning gowns from some of today’s top designers.

easy romantic wedding inspiration - photo by Ben Q Photography http://ruffledblog.com/easy-romantic-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Ben Q Photography: The shoot concept was about a modern standard of beauty that embraces diversity. We shot three models who are each uniquely gorgeous. The backdrop was a calm sandy lake in Texas. R Love Floral used lush eucalyptus, flat fern and Italian ruscus greenery with fragrant garden roses, hellebores and lisianthus to create very loose, untamed, and natural arrangements that would complement well with the organic feel of the lake shoot.

For the Dessert Table, Amuse Bake Shop created sweets featuring color, shape, and texture, a treat for the eyes as well as the palette. Inspired by fresh fruits and natural ingredients the desserts included Poached Pears wrapped in Pastry, Peach Blackberry and Orange Upside-Down Cakes, a Toasted Lemon Meringue Cake, Caramel Nut Bars, Individual Berry & Pecan Pies, and unique Mini Cakes. One of our models is an artist and illustrated watercolors of our other two models.

Brazilian Wedding on the Beach

Beach Weddings

Photos by:

Piteira Photography

Today’s real wedding doubles not only as wedding inspiration in beautiful Brazil, but also as honeymoon inspiration. Honestly, just try tearing yourself away from these images by Piteira Photography! Thanks to Carla Baroncini and Congregabahia who also blew the couple’s vision out of the water.

Brazilian wedding on the beach - photo by Piteira Photography http://ruffledblog.com/brazilian-wedding-on-the-beach

From the photographers, Luis and Kerry of Piteira Photography: Lara and Arthur are Brazilian, originally from Rio De Janeiro but currently living in London, UK. Their wedding took place right on the beach (literally) on the tropical coastline of the Bahia state, just outside of the famous surf town of Itacaré. Everything about this wedding was super stylish but not at all formal, the couple managed to strike the perfect balance and pulled off one of the most amazing weddings (and parties!) that we’ve ever been to.

Lara´s uncle has a house in the jungle nearby and a little chapel on his property, which was where the ceremony was held… and then a tent was custom built right on the beach for the buffet style dinner and dancing afterwards and in true Brazilian style, the party continued until the early hours of the following morning. The decor was all in keeping with the tropical theme, as set by the location, and there were palm fronts and baby coconut trees, bright tropical fruits and flowers and bold colourful designs throughout.

Tranquil Bohemian Beach Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Alexandra Wallace

A gorgeous bohemian event on the beach, complete with a hanging tassel backdrop, stylish bar, and incredible floral design? Say no more. This shoot from the wonderful team of Alexandra Wallace, Lovelyfest Events, and Precious and Blooming utilizes paper goods from Wedding Paper Divas to create a simple and relaxed day that’s just as exciting as it is tranquil and peaceful.

tranquil bohemian beach wedding inspiration - photo by Alexandra Wallace http://ruffledblog.com/tranquil-bohemian-beach-wedding-inspiration

From the event designers, Lovelyfest Events: Growing up in Southern California has been influential in shaping our overall style and aesthetic as designers, and never having lived more than 10 minutes from the beach, the ocean is a major source of that inspiration. For this shoot, we wanted to reflect the casual and simple nature of true ‘California style’, with a non-traditional beach wedding. Living in a town with countless seaside wedding venues, we sought out to design a wedding that could encompass a beach feel without cookie-cutter “beach” items ( i.e. seashells and sand). This shoot took place on one of our favorite cliffs by the sea in Shell Beach with one of our favorite wedding photographers, Alexandra Wallace. She really encapsulates a modern and unique vibe in her photos, and we knew she could showcase this one perfectly. With this setting came various scenes of natural beauty; a gaping view of the ocean and a naturally marbled cliff wall on the sand. The cliff rivaled any backdrop we could create ourselves! The ocean and sky provided a simple backdrop for our table, with it’s blue hues juxtaposing the focal colors of our shoot: rose quartz, mustard yellow, crisp white, and pale gray.

romantic table decor - photo by Alexandra Wallace http://ruffledblog.com/tranquil-bohemian-beach-wedding-inspiration

As with all of our weddings, our design of this shoot began with the overall look, theme and vibe, followed closely by the choosing of an invitation suite. Paper products may seem like a trivial detail, but for us, these little details can help keep the design focused and cohesive. After scouting our venue and finding unique aspects of it that inspired us, we chose the Gilded Marble Invitation suite from Wedding Paper Divas. The deep Dijon hue of this invitation reflected the color and marbling of the cliff walls where our shoot was to take place, and the white geometric details and bold lettering spoke to that simple and modern California style we were seeking out. We set up an exposed wood dining table from Embellish Vintage rentals high on the cliff where only the ocean could be seen behind it. This in turn helped keep the focus on the table itself, with the backdrop of the sea being a complement to our design. On each place setting sat a menu from the same Gilded Marble invitation suite. Because of it’s detailed design, we kept the table decor very simple. We accessorized with modern gold flatware, stark white plates, gray stoneware and modern brass napkin rings. Our vintage champagne coupes sat on geometric rose quartz coasters, giving the table a more modern feel. The cool gray napkins lent a sophisticated yet understated feeling to each place setting, and driftwood knife rests brought the beach setting into play.

We worked closely with florist Kellye from Precious and Blooming to come up with a floral design that didn’t feel too contrived, something very California chic. She designed a stunning centerpiece that was looked as though it was laying on the table, to create a more at-home, foraged feel. We accented the table with real pink Himalayan salt blocks, pink hued taper candles and vintage salt cellars filled with pink salt. Finally, we added in modern white chairs around the rustic table to really bring together that laid-back, modern California feel. Since the cliff wall was a major source of inspiration for our design and our choosing of paper products, we knew it had to be the focal point of the ceremony. The natural marbling on the wall is a stunning feat of nature and we couldn’t keep our eyes off it! We hand-crafted tassels and created a ceremony backdrop against the wall complete with foraged wood and florals from Kellye. The modern white chairs served as the perfect modern accent and were a stark contrast to the soft hues of the beach.

We left our cake designer, Papercake Events, creative freedom to come up with a cake design inspired by the sea and our Wedding Paper Divas invitations. On the bottom tier of the cake, Whitnie mimicked the marbling of the Gilded Marble invite, and on the top used geometric accents keeping with the modern theme. Instead of placing flowers on the cake, we had Precious and Blooming come in with leftover florals, creating a loose and unique look at the bottom of the cake table. We’re always looking for new ways to show off floral arrangements, and it doesn’t always have to be in a vase! Embellish Vintage rentals is always expanding their inventory, and although most of it is classic and antique, we easily weaved it into our modern, eclectic design. With their vintage bar cart we added in custom cocktails, more geodes and pink salt blocks, and extra cards from the invitation suite. You never know when you’ll need extra paper goods, and escort displays are always a great way to tie in those fun details! Overall, the marbled invitation suite tied in perfectly with the ocean and cliffs of Shell Beach. We worked with all local vendors to make this styled shoot come to life, as we really wanted to encapsulate what a local beach wedding could be. We hope we can inspire brides to think outside the box when designing their own wedding, and that what is typically done in your venue doesn’t have to be the same for you!

From Wedding Paper Divas: Sometimes the soul yearns for something simple. No heels or fancy frills. Our idea for a relaxed wedding happened as we were driving along the coast. A venue really sets the tone for a wedding, and we knew we wanted to dream up some tranquil inspiration, on one of our favorite shorelines. A beach wedding isn’t for everyone. But if you think it may work for you and your beau, get ready to sink your toes into the sand. There is something so idyllic about a Bohemian wedding theme. It beckons the flower child within you. From the muted flowers, rosy Himalayan rocks, worn wooden table, and old fashioned bar cart, these vintage pieces showcase the heart of what some whimsical free spirits may choose to have on their special day. We made sure to add warmth to the décor, as California winters don’t always have an abundance of color. The stylist and I used shades of pink, gold, and blue for this styled shoot. From the cocktail drinks, to the reception seating area, we made sure to take this theme full circle. From softly rolling waves, to endlessly romantic sunsets, is there a more perfect way to exchange I Dos?

Romantic Bridal Inspiration on the California Coast

Wedding Design

There’s no time like the present to dream of the rocky coast, and thanks to this bridal inspiration from Michael Radford Photography and Tinge, that’s exactly how we’ll be spending our day. Michael captured both bridal and boudoir looks designed by Emily Riggs Bridal, and if you’re anything like us you’ll be absolutely floored by how beautiful the pieces are!

romantic bridal inspiration on the California Coast - photo by Michael Radford Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-bridal-inspiration-on-the-california-coast

From the floral designer, Ashley of Tinge: Being from Salt Lake City, Utah, I am used to the gorgeous mountains and meadows which are so inspiring. I feel fortunate to live in such a beautiful place! But since California brings such a change in scenery we decided shooting at this gorgeous spot in Laguna was the perfect setting. The mossy rocks and cliffs are rugged, which contrasts so beautifully with the soft, beautiful draping of Emily’s gorgeous Ophelia gown.

I took inspiration of what lives beneath the sea for the florals. I incorporated different colors but kept them all fairly muted, with the exception of a few peach and sea foam tones. I loved the way the soft colors complemented Emily’s gorgeous gown.

Cliffside Wedding Portraits in California

Wedding Design

Goodness, this shoot. The wonderful Emily Fuselier Photography recently took part in one of the fabulous Erich McVey workshops with styling and flowers by Ginny Au and Soil & Stem, and the resulting images are almost too beautiful to believe. We’ve got our eye on that gown by Emily Riggs, too — the low neckline with eyelash lace detailing is beyond exquisite.

From the photographer, Emily Fuselier: I could not wait to share this modern textured wedding inspiration with you. This shoot was based on the concept of pattern. I just love how all of the textures and color create a modern day feel for a wedding. The amazing lace bridal gown from Emily Riggs is to die over especially when paring it with the statement-making earrings. All of the textures make for such a simple but elegant look..I just could not get enough of this style.

La Jolla Beach Engagement Session

Engagement Sessions

Bride-to-be Kathryn was a Southern transplant in San Diego, CA when she met the love of her life through a friend. Next year, the couple will make their way back to Charleston to exchange vows among their closest friends and family! This beautiful engagement session from Devon Donnahoo Photography, Studio Fleurish, and Kelsey Rae Designs serves as a brilliant reminder of the sunny state the couple met in, sure to be cherished for a lifetime.

La Jolla Beach engagement session - photo by Devon Donnahoo Photography http://ruffledblog.com/la-jolla-beach-engagement-session

From the photographer, Devon Donnahoo: Kathryn was transferred to San Diego from Charleston with her job for a “one year, temporary term” with intentions of going back home to SC… until she met Travis through a mutual friend at work. The tall, dark and handsome California boy swept this Carolina girl off her feet and now she’s been in CA for 3 years enjoying every minute. This May, Travis popped the question and they are planning their wedding for next June to be back in Charleston, SC. I was so excited to capture their sweet love during this styled engagement session on the La Jolla shores. The golden light in SoCal is to die for!

Beach Wedding Inspiration with Sequin Gowns

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Les Amis Photo

Have we ever mentioned how much we love the idea of non-traditional wedding gowns? Because we really, really do. Take this styled shoot from Les Amis Photo, Il Profumo dei Fiori, and Oliveta Design for example — not only is there a stunning white lace wedding gown, but also shown are two sequined gowns that would be perfect for bridesmaids and bride alike. That Tom Ford gown especially has us madly in love!

beach wedding inspiration with sequin gowns - photo by Les Amis Photo http://ruffledblog.com/beach-wedding-inspiration-with-sequin-gowns

From the photographers, Les Amis Photo: We wanted to create, in collaboration with Oliveta design, a romantic and twilight style at the same time and provide a setting that recalls a wedding and a gala. The flowers’ bucolic colors, from a wedding inspiration, are in contrast with the elegant and luxurious tones of evening dresses. The pinks and white palettes are therefore in contrast with black and pink sequin evening dresses, with plates and the elegant stationery. The melancholy spirit and the dreamy ocean atmosphere on a windy day are the theme of this shooting in all its phases.

Montenegro Love Session

Engagement Sessions

Photos by:

Sonya Khegay

Today we’re letting our imaginations whisk us away to Montenegro, where film photographer Sonya Khegay captured this jaw-dropping love session. This is simplicity at its best, and the couple’s love shines through brilliantly — just as it should. If Montenegro wasn’t on our list of must-visit destinations before, it sure is now!

Montenegro spring love session - photo by Sonya Khegay Photography http://ruffledblog.com/montenegro-spring-love-session

From Tanya: We have been together for many years, but it seems like we met each other only a week ago. Every new day we get to know each other again and again. We can talk about different themes, laugh and make fun of each other all day long. We love to make up something new together and then try to achieve new goals. A few years ago we started a very good tradition. It’s really great and I hope we will carry it on! We celebrate my birthday in different countries where we haven’t been yet. I love this opportunity to be alone with my man on such an important day, to free ourselves from all problems and just share happiness and enjoy the moment.

As we are fond of walking along deserted beaches and absolutely in love with the salted air we go to the seaside countries usually. This year we chose Montenegro by chance, and in the result we have experienced a lot of positive emotions. we are grateful for the fortune of meeting Sonya. you know, sometimes you meet people who are on the same wave with you, that was the case :) thanks to her we have these wonderful photos, which allow us to get back to that lovely day full of spring warm sun, smiles and happiness.

Vibrant Summer Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

If ever there was a gown that deserved its own styled shoot, it has to be this Marchesa beauty. Embellished with beads, shells, pearls, and pops of coral, it stopped us in our tracks the minute we first laid eyes on it. Trini Mai Photography captured every bit of the shoot beautifully, and Flower Allie truly wowed on floral design!

From the photographer, Trini Mai Photography: If I could dream up one word to describe summer, it would be “vibrant.” With a dress so unique that it inspires an entire shoot around it, we set out to capture a bright and happy summer wedding inspiration. Adorned with cheerful coral gems and pretty seashells, it evokes visions of merry days spent on the beach with sunshine on our shoulders and sand between our toes. Add in a charming blue beach house and a row boat covered in summer blooms, this wedding is headed towards total bliss.

Lincoln City Beach Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Hazelwood Photo

We always love the romantic nature of beach weddings, but this styled shoot photographed by Hazelwood Photo during the golden hour is just beyond. Amber Votel and Swoon Floral Design worked on the design and floral arrangements, and they used natural elements like thistle, stones, and wood to keep everything looking organic, relaxed, and positively timeless.

Lincoln City beach wedding editorial - photo by Hazelwood Photo http://ruffledblog.com/lincoln-city-beach-wedding-editorial

From the event designer, Amber Votel: This modern coastal styled shoot was conceived by event stylist Amber Votel and shot by Hazelwood Photo. We were inspired by the rich textures, natural elements and moods found at the sea shore – the breeze, the sand, the dunes, and the sunset at golden hour. We kept the color palette soft and minimal- sea glass blue, creamy white, dusty sage green and lots of earthy browns and grey. Shells, coral, stones and wood were combined with glass, linen and metal creating a textural modern bohemian mix. Brass lanterns and wood and glass vintage pieces seem to have been sourced from an old ship.

Lincoln City, Oregon was the perfect backdrop for the shoot. The beach was misty and windswept with a colorful golden sunset, soft grassy dunes and nature all around. We were also just paces away from Proposal Rock, a huge natural rock formation rising from the sea, renown as a romantic destination as the name suggests. The bride and groom had a laid-back modern bohemian look perfect for casual outdoor nuptials. Her long sleeve deep v-neck dress by Elizabeth Dye was styled with a simple green satin sash and bold brass and rough-cut gemstone jewelry. Her beauty look was fresh and simple- hair was a loose, windswept braid and makeup was soft and natural, reflecting the natural tones of the scene. Modern effortless elegance.

The bouquet combined classic white blooms with lots of textural greenery into a loose wild composition. The arrangements scattered on the tables resembled seaweed pearls, sea plants, and textured flowers or grasses that could have been plucked from the dunes. We collaborated with some amazing local vendors and artists who expertly translated the feel of the sea into a perfect wedding day look. The gorgeous dappled ombre cake by Artisan Cake Company featured an elegant swirl of candied sugar that spun around like a wave from the deep. Favors were earthy scented hand shaped soaps by Roots Soap Co. that appeared to be stones from the shore. The paint by number coastal wedding suite by Factory Made reflected the soft colors and textures of the scene. Swoon Floral Design created the amazing floral arrangements and Kirstie Wight Makeup conceived the beauty look. Rentals from Something Borrowed Vintage Rentals and hand made items from Forest Meets Sea and Farm Walk Road accentuated the table. Jewelry pieces were designed by Lumafina, By Angeline and Love Tatum.

Modern Seaside Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

No matter what the focus, the results from Erich McVey’s workshops always seem to leave us breathless. California film photographer Jessica Davis Photography is here today to share her images from a seaside shoot that’s as minimalist as it is inspiring!

modern seaside wedding inspiration - photo by Jessica Davis Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-seaside-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Jessica Davis Photography: The Modern Seaside Wedding Shoot was photographed at the Erich McVey workshop in Elk CA at the beautiful Navarro River Redwoods State Park. This inspiration for this shoot was styled and designed by the talented Ginny Au who created a vision book for color, look and feel of a natural yet modern bride- inspired by the soft hues of a sunset.

The workshop was 4 days of beauty right down to every detail, from beautiful dinners in a rustic barn, breathtaking locations and numerous shoots styled to perfection. The workshop was so breathtaking and the talent came together with such a natural look and feel to create photo shoots that had such effortless beauty. I feel so grateful to have been a part of such a team of talents. Erich, Amy and the team were so generous with their knowledge, it truly was a photographer’s dream!

Coastal Bride Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

A beach-y bride meets bohemian style in this ever-so-dreamy editorial from Apryl Ann Photography and Michelle Lywood. One of our favorite aspects of this shoot is that the bouquet was inspired by an abstract painting, proving the possibilities for finding inspiration for your wedding day are truly endless. Amy Clarke‘s work on hair and makeup shines here, and we’d be kidding ourselves if we tried to deny our dreams of having her style us every day!

coastal bride wedding editorial - photo by Apryl Ann Photography http://ruffledblog.com/coastal-bride-wedding-editorial

From the florist, Michelle Lywood: I had recently seen an abstract painting that was a beautiful blend of many different colors with no defined forms. As an artist, it reminded me that letting go of control and creating without boundaries can lead to unexpected results. My mindset was simply to find the best blooms available and anything that I was excited to work with regardless of my typical concerns when planning a design.

coastal bride wedding editorial - photo by Apryl Ann Photography http://ruffledblog.com/coastal-bride-wedding-editorial

I came across miraculously large dark red tree peonies, apricot colored garden roses with intricate details in how their petals had bloomed, strikingly jewel toned purple clematis, and breathtakingly delicate rose bushes. I really let the flowers dictate where the design was going. The colors were a pretty unique combination, but I loved how each flower maintained its integrity and was able to shine while still working together as a whole in the bouquet. The softness of the rose bushes was the perfect juxtaposition against the coastal rocks. And when life hands you giant peonies, you celebrate with a bold headpiece. Everything came together beautifully, and the whole process felt refreshingly natural.

Windswept Bridal Editorial on the Beach

Wedding Design

Beach weddings often take up space in my daydreams, and they just as often happen to look awfully similar to today’s shoot from Michelle Roller Photography, Sandcastle Celebrations, and Eden Floral Design. The entire scene was put together with a palette of grays, blues, and metallic accents in gold and brass, keeping everything perfectly tied to the waterside theme.

windswept bridal editorial on the beach - photo by Michelle Roller Photography http://ruffledblog.com/windswept-bridal-editorial-on-the-beach

From the photographer, Michelle Roller Photography: It all started with a gown. A stunning hand stitched bridal gown from Russia created by Milamira Bridal. This beautiful windswept inspiration shoot was a collaboration of talented vendors. Michelle Roller Photography captured all the sensational details. Janet Tacy of Sandcastle Celebrations utilized an array of natural elements to create a stunning backdrop that showcased the windswept inspiration. Drawing from a palette of soft grays and blues with brass and gold accents, the stylist sought to capture the natural beauty of California’s central coast.

A billowing canopy structure constructed with birch branches echoed the sails of a sailboat. A dining table set with gold rim china and glass ware from Italy nestled elegantly within this natural structure. The napkins and cheese cloth table runner were dip dyed to reflect the ombre colors of the sea. Vintage trunks, wooden crates and lanterns anchored these stylistic elements. The floral designs created by Eden Floral utilized both native plants and conventionally grown florals. A vintage brass urn used for the centerpiece showcased the delicate florals. The bridal bouquet accented the exquisite fabric of the bridal gown. The torn and trailing fabric tied to the bouquet complemented the gown. Paper Cake Events created a gorgeous cake that of reflected the waves of the sea. Edible gold foil was used to decorate both the cake and the delicious French macaroons. The invitation suite created by Morningside Paper Studio utilized a stunning mix of watercolors and gold foil. The suite perfectly captured every element of the inspiration. What started as a beautiful hand-made gown coalesced into an exciting bridal inspiration shoot showcasing many talented vendors from California’s Central Coast.

Northern California Beach Elopement

Sawyer Baird

When you’ve got a team like Sawyer Baird, Sarah Park Events, and Wilder Floral Co., you just know the result is going to be something extra special. These talented folks recently joined forces for Elysian the Workshop in Northern California, where they took to the beach for some jaw-droppingly beautiful images and misty shore romance.

Northern California beach elopement - photo by Sawyer Baird Photography http://ruffledblog.com/northern-california-beach-elopement

From the photographer, Sawyer Baird: When getting inspired, I tend to lean towards nature. Kylie Swanson does as well. When Kylie was designing this shoot she kept in mind the moody feel of the northern shores of California. The Jenny Packham dress from The Dress Theory was the icing on the cake for the shoot and beyond the perfect fit. Due to things, Sarah Park of Sarah Park Events had to step in and style the shoot during the workshop. With Sarah’s style similar to Kylie’s taste, the shoot ended up being a complete success. We loved working on the misty shores with the rocky coast line. Northern California is unlike any place. It has a mix of all scenes of nature.

Tropical La Jolla Cove Beach Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

La Jolla Cove has to be the perfect spot for beach wedding inspiration — we’re convinced of it after seeing this styled shoot from Hillary Muelleck Photography and Flowers by Hilary. The team kept things simple yet striking, with a color palette of pink, yellow, and teal popping out in all the right places.

From the photographer, Hillary Muelleck: Beach wedding inspirations almost always consist of sandy beaches, walking along the shoreline, and playing in the water. We wanted to inspire a new kind of beach wedding on the sunny bluffs of La Jolla, California. While taking inspiration from vintage fabrics, tropical elements, and a pastel color palette; we were able to put together a romantic and ethereal wedding design.

While brainstorming for this La Jolla shoot, Hilary Curtis from Flowers by Hilary wanted to create an asymmetrical bouquet with draping vintage ribbons along with a flower crown displaying vibrant tropical colors. She also incorporated a beautiful variety of flowers and tropical palms to add eye-catching detail to the shoot. In keeping with the simple vintage feel, we got brides dress from Gossamer Vintage. We loved the sheer silk that created the light and airy look we dreamed for our bride.

The details of the table setting were also very important to us and to the direct of the shoot. That’s why we collaborated with CC Vintage Rentals to bring in a couple stunning pieces from their warehouse. From the vintage furniture, assorted candlesticks, and gold utensils, our vision of a romantic and ethereal inspiration on the bluffs was coming together. For the final touch, we were happy to have Emmy from Hello Design Sugar create menus and an invitation suite using handwritten calligraphy and a soft pastel color palette. We loved the simplicity and airy feel that her designs brought in completing the look of this shoot.

From the photographer, Jessica Rose: My vision for this shoot was to combine elegance and earthiness in a simple beautiful way. Working to make that into a reality with each one of these vendors was a dream, they are each so talented and wonderful to work with! We wanted to share with brides that less is often more, especially when each piece is chosen purposefully. Location, colour palette, decor, lighting… Each detail being a word, a line, a notation that flows together to create the final masterpiece.

Modern Tropical Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

We’ve seen it so many times now that it’s pretty much a given — Delovely Creative just knows how to create gorgeous events. This modern tropical wedding inspiration shoot brings beach-y styling to an industrial setting, for a styled shoot that ends up being nothing short of honest to goodness perfection with the added help of Blush Wedding Photography!

modern tropical wedding inspiration - photo by Blush Wedding Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-tropical-wedding

From the photographer, Kristy of Blush Wedding Photography: Our shoot idea explored romantic meets tropical with hints of geometric styling. When the term “romantic” is used, often vintage elements come to mind, so the goal of this shoot was to infuse ethereal romance with modern, off beat style. The team wanted to pull from the current geometric tend, without it being hard or too overly edgy.

Additionally, Vancouver can be a grey place at times, leaving brides wistfully dreaming of a sunny tropical backdrop. Use of protea, tillandsia and quirky tropical fruit in the decor styling, add a nod to the tropics, while embracing a down to earth, west coast feel. The dress, pulled from Vancouver’s The Block, ads to the clean modern feel of the shoot, and allows the subtly tropical palette to shine through. By blending industrial design elements and architecture with dreamy lighting, raw natural crystals and punchy colours, it creates a totally unique vibe, perfect for the urban stylish bride.

Lighthouse Point Park Wedding

Beach Weddings

Photos by:

Daphne and Dean

It never would have occurred to me before, but a beach wedding mixed with a dusty lavender color palette is pretty darn perfect. With some accents of mint green and incredible floral design from Blossoming Blessings, this New Haven wedding was a big winner — see the images from Daphne and Dean to judge for yourself!

Lighthouse Point Park wedding - photo by Daphne and Dean http://ruffledblog.com/lighthouse-point-park-wedding

From the bride, Rochelle: Our wedding day turned out to be more beautiful than how I envisioned it to be. I wanted my friends and family to experience our first day as husband and wife with so much joy, and most importantly, see how much love and FUN we truly have with one another through all of our little wedding details. We wanted everyone to fun, plain and simple.

90% of our wedding decor was created by both my husband and myself. It was the epitome of DIY. We did the save the dates, invitations, signs, favors, escort cards, sign in decor and the list goes on. One DIY I will always cherish is the carousel wedding logo he created for our invites and placed on our cotton candy bags. We truly are teammates and we honestly grew closer as we worked on all of these projects together. We made a lot of fun out of it and actually have a few of our wedding decor around our apartment! So, as you can see, our little wedding theme/hashtag was all about “Team Schultz.” We even choreographed/mixed all the songs to our first dance together, and practiced it once. That’s not even a joke.. it’s disgusting how are in-sync we are with one another.

For our centerpieces, I had a centerpiece making party where my bridesmaids, friends and family gathered to wrap twine and yarn around wine bottles all night long. Again, it’s important to make these DIY projects fun. Otherwise, it will be a big snowball of stress and no one wants to be around a stressed out bride. No one. My mother made my beautiful veil and sash. My grandfather made our cupcake display but cutting up a tree that fell in my backyard. All of these projects are so cherished and seeing everything put together, truly made our wedding so.. us. It was grand.

Woodland Portland Elopement

Elopements

When a wedding photographer elopes to Portland to exchange vows in the woods and take some seriously stunning portraits by the water, you know it’s going to be good. With Dylan and Sara Photography behind the images from Jameykay and Arlie’s sweet elopement, we weren’t disappointed in the slightest. Be sure to take note of the flowers from Floral Designs by Alicia, including Jameykay’s incredible floral crown!

From the bride, Jameykay: We really went with what felt true to ourselves which is vintage oriented. The style and art of the 20s really spoke to us when it came to putting our elopement together. My vintage engagement ring is an art deco style so we ran with it!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Your wedding is your own. Don’t be afraid to take a leap and get what you want but keep your new future together in mind when planning. Always be gracious towards others even if something isn’t going quite right. Kindness is the best language to speak because it takes you a whole lot further. On your wedding day, suddenly all of the imperfections are creating the perfect day. We did our wedding how we wanted and we have no regrets. I feel that was the best first step we could have taken in our new life together.

Romantic La Jolla Beach Wedding

Beach Weddings

For someone who didn’t grow up envisioning her wedding day, bride Alex still managed to pull off a wedding straight out of any girl’s dreams. Her Nicole Miller gown with an oversized bow? Perfection. The tablescapes decked out in flowers from Adelaide’s? Genius. And obviously, the images from John Newsome Photography pieces the whole day together with brilliance.

peach bridesmaids dresses // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Alex: I was never one of those women who had always envisioned what her wedding would look like, so I was starting from scratch. Kris and I took our time enjoying our engagement and didn’t begin to plan until about six months after he proposed. I have a very strong design aesthetic and luckily Kris let me take the reigns. We’re both very drawn to the water, Kris is a surfer, and we live (literally and figuratively) at the beach. At the top of our list was a venue that had views of the beach and would allow us to host the wedding AND reception. After looking at several private residences, we found the Martin Johnson House on recommendation from a co-worker. The space and view was so incredible that I made conscious decision to not over-style it.

I love the idea of simplistic elegance, where it looks as if everything came together effortlessly – which it really did. We wanted a relaxed feel, like a big party rather than a wedding. So we went with farm tables without table linens, several floral centerpieces rather than traditional centerpieces and an absolutely delicious family style dinner with our favorite foods (charcuterie and imported french cheeses, kale Caesar salad, Mediterranean style pasta and roast chicken). A good friend married us (his children were our flower girl and ring barer), which made everything feel so much more intimate.

Our inspiration was a “garden wedding.” I kept on going back to the words “elegant,” “bohemian,” “romantic,” and “natural” as I planned the decor. Our color scheme – shades of off white, pink and blush – was inspired by a painting I saw at the MET on a trip to NYC- Roses in a Bowl by Latour. I also love laurel wreaths so that was a design component that was visible throughout the wedding from the invitation and escort cards to the table number holders. I was lucky to have help from friends & family- my mom and I collected a hundred milk glass vases at antique stores, a friend with impeccable handwriting wrote out the name of each guest on our escort cards, I filled hand-stamped linen bags with a “trail mix” from our friend’s farm, amazing craft cocktails from our mixology wizard friends and my husband’s step-father crafted an incredible arbor out of drift wood.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t put too much pressure on yourself for everything to be “perfect.” It’s all about celebrating your marriage and enjoying the day with your family and friends! We took our family/bridal party photos prior to the wedding so we were able to enjoy “cocktail hour” with our friends and family!

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Over The Rainbow,” Israel “IZ” Kamakawiwo’ole
Recessional: “Thank You,” Led Zeppelin
First Dance: “Better Together,” Jack Johnson
Father/Daughter Dance: “Wildflowers,” Tom Petty
Our “soundtrack” was very music festival influenced, I had gone to Coachella and Outside Lands (for my bachelorette) earlier in the year so I wanted upbeat music that was fun to dance to like Passion Pit, MGMT and Justice. Since my husband and I met in college our friends threw in a few fun tracks from when we first met- some Lil John and 50 Cent : )

Underwater Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

If you were ever inspired by the ocean, well, this is it. Ashley of To Live. To Love. Photography had a dreamy vision of literally creating an underwater tablescape for pure inspiration. The colors that the sun cast alone under a deep pool are amazing, and the underwater details couldn’t have been more perfect, with lovely jewelry by Merrick Jewels.

From the photographer, Ashley of To Live. To Love. Photography: This shoot challenged me so much as a artist. I really wanted to jump out of my comfort zone and expand my view. I believe it’s important for every artist to constantly challenge themselves so that they can grow. This shoot allowed me to really think outside of the box and push to go the extra mile. I had no idea what I was getting myself into! This shoot was one of the most exciting shoots I’ve done. It consisted of constant laughter and patience to get that one good shot. So thankful my models were able to tough it out with me and we all truly had a fantastic time!

Secluded Costa Rica Wedding

Beach Weddings

Photos by:

Tucked away in a little part of paradise, this secluded Costa Rica wedding shot by A Brit & A Blonde is classic, fun and full of fresh, local flowers. Bright whites and yellows pop against the beach backdrop. The only rule at this dreamy destination wedding – no shoes!

Costa Rica Wedding // photo by A Brit and a Blonde

After being together for 14 years, it was finally time to tie the knot. The only stipulation the groom Dean was adamant about was – no shoes! “Dean hates shoes and wears flip-flops at every opportunity. It is his insistance that he wears no shoes at the ceremony,” says Alice. So, there we go, barefoot on the beach!

The entire wedding – ceremony, cocktail and reception all took place on a secluded part of paradise in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica. Relaxed, natural, and fun. Of course, beautiful pictures (had to be A Brit & A Blonde!) and an awesome dinner were very important. The color palette consisted of grays and yellows, with decor details having a classic feel with fun inspirations. The flowers were all yellow and white using a mixture of: Dendrobium Orchids, Mokara Orchids, Lilies, Hydrangea, Astromedia, Snapdragon, Button Mums and rose petals. We loved Costa Rica for having such amazing flower options to choose from! There were cool personalized luggage tags for each of the guests which acted as place card seating names too – and a super fun and cute gift that all the guests could then use for their trip back home. Great idea for a destination wedding! We also had a photo booth to catch everyone getting a little wacky. But I think the biggest hit of the night had to have been the birdcage cake served with yummy ice cold fruit infused teas. It was simply stunning and so incredibly unique.

Seaside Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Erin Kate Photography and floral designer Kim of Petal Pixie teamed up to create this beautiful seaside styled shoot. I’m loving the crisp white linens and deep blue hues against the sandy beach setting. Such a great look for a laid-back rehearsal dinner or a fun gathering with friends.

From Kim of Petal Pixie“: when designing this shoot I wanted to create something full of details that remind me of my trips to the coast in California and Oregon. I chose a color pallet reminiscent of the ocean consisting of blues, white, and gray. I started with white linens for something crisp and fresh looking. I paired it with watercolor napkins folded in a pocket style where you can insert your silverware or a menu card. From there I used a hollowed out log with succulents and air plants. The beauty of air plants is they do not have to be in soil to stay alive which makes them easy to design with while creating a lot of interest and impact. I finished off the table with seashells, rope covered candles, and sea glass. You can’t be on the beach without having S’mores, so I created individual S’more kits for the guests to use after the dinner. I wanted to create a shoot that could be used for a rehearsal dinner or a gathering of friends.

La Jolla Shores Wedding

Blue Label

Photos by:

Narrative Images

With the Pacific ocean serving as the backdrop, this La Jolla shores wedding coordinated by Melissa Barrad from I Do… Weddings with photography by Narrative Images is just beautiful. Hand-painted signs, pink florals and sweet succulents created a simple, yet romantic setting for this couple’s big day on the beach.

la-jolla-wedding-07

From the Bride, Amelia: We knew we wanted to get married in San Diego and the only requirement Adam requested when choosing a venue for our wedding was that it be at a beach location. He is a surfer and grew up in San Diego. Plus, we met, fell in love, lived together and got engaged all near the beach, so it was an important representation of our lives together. The Scripps Seaside Forum in La Jolla was the perfect venue. The relaxed setting and the breathtaking beach view was where we could envision getting married to each other and celebrating with our family and friends.

When it came to the overall vision and planning of our wedding, I wanted each detail to be perfect and meaningful. We wanted to stay within our budget, which meant prioritizing was important and had to remember to keep things simple. We chose not to add much detail to the ceremony because the setting of the beach with the colors of our bridal party (suits, dresses, flowers, etc.) was enough. For the reception we tried to create an intimate and comfortable space that complimented the colors that were present in the wood building and the surroundings of the blue-grey ocean. I would call it a mix of modern and vintage with a touch of beach-y. I choose colors in gray, white, tan, silver, gold and blush and layered different textures such as soft satin, rough wood, embellished golds, shiny mercury glass, ruched chiffon and delicate lace. To set the ambiance, we chose a DJ that performed live music for the ceremony, cocktail hour and our first dance (which was one of my favorite moments.) Our guests saw us as dancing silhouettes just as the sun was setting and the waves crashed behind us.

I had amazing vendors and help from my family and friends to get everything done. My mom made succulent arrangements from her garden and placed them in various planters she purchased. My florist used all the succulent arrangements along with vintage vases my mom had also provided and mixed them in with beautiful floral arrangements. My mom made our wooden signs, ring box and card box as well. The wood signs were made with recycled wood and white paint. My mom and her good friend provided the lace table cloths for my sweetheart and cake tables, which were family heirlooms. Friends and other family came over to help me cut invitations, tie twine on invites, print programs, tie ribbon on programs, paint bags for my bridesmaids gifts, write out names out the favors and anything else that I needed help with.

Even with all the planning, there still were unexpected events that happened that really made me rely on the help of my family and friends. This came 11 days before my wedding when I cut my finger badly and needed 11 stitches. Luckily it was not my ring finger, and finding cute band aids designed by Cynthia Rowley made me feel a little better. The day of my wedding my each of my bridesmaids decided to wear a band aid on their finger in support of me, which is something I will remember forever and made for some cute photos.

From the planner, Melissa: From the minute I met with Amelia, I knew her wedding would be special. I was so excited to see how we’d mesh a relaxed beach feel with lots of romantic elements. Amelia and Adam’s wedding day was one of the first picture-perfect days in La Jolla, and the sunset was magical. So many personal touches and DIY projects added a ton of personality and texture. One of my favorites was an autographed surfboard, honoring the Groom’s love of surfing. The board was signed at the rehearsal, and later displayed at the wedding. It was an elegant and fun day infused with a lot of what is important to the couple, and I enjoyed the entire planning process and the wedding day.
