Sweet Georgia Wedding

We’re off to a bright week at Ruffled! We’re getting some last minute details wrapped up for our next DIY Contest, which is going to be bigger than ever. Keep your eyes peeled and your little hands ready! Christy and Chris’s charming Southern wedding is chock full of creative details. The stunning photos of the day are courtesy of Kyle Hale:

Christy says: When planning our wedding, Chris and I wanted to embrace our Southern culture; we wanted our wedding to feel like an old fashion Southern family reunion. While we agreed that we wanted our ceremony to be religious, Chris and I wanted the overall celebration to be a big party and un-traditionally “us.”

Our color scheme was quite loose, but I wanted all shades of teal, green, yellow, and grey with touches of red. It wasn’t intentional, but I realized later that it was my color palette in the apartment where we first met. We were roommates who quickly fell in love.

Every detail in our wedding was handmade with love. We have so many creative people in our life, we really wanted to resource that. I worked with one of our groomsmen, Dave Greer, to design our wedding invitations. I hand drew all the details and he put it together on the computer. My sister and brother-in-law helped me make the wooden banner. My family and bridesmaids helped make all the tissue flowers we hung from the barn ceiling. My bridesmaid, Rachel Lasserre, designed our programs. My mother really was such a tremendous help with planning the wedding and making crafts. One of the best gifts of service was a handmade wedding dress from my dear friend, and bridesmaid, Kari Green.

It felt so amazing to have this community around us working collectively to help us create the perfect celebration. Family members and friends helped hang up the decorations and arrange all the flowers we bought in bulk into vases and cups.  We also had friends use their talents in the wedding ceremony and reception. My bridesmaid and her husband, Rhain and Zach, build and rent photobooths, so naturally, we had to have one at the reception! We even borrowed a couple handmade cornhole sets from our friends.

Christy’s advice: When planning, stay true to yourself, but learn to compromise. Figure out the cheap route to doing things. Instead of sending postal save-the-dates, we made a video and e-mailed it to everyone on our guest list. Gotprint.com and I quickly became best friends. I printed my programs and invitations through the website, and not only was it quick, it was cost-effective!
