There are few cities more romantic than Charleston, so native South Carolinians Cate and Tyler picked it as the perfect location for their springtime wedding. Next on the list was to find the perfect team of vendors, and that they did — Feather Love Events, YOJ Events, and Branch Design Studio, just to name a few! The day was full of inspiring floral design, beautiful fashion (like the bride’s Jenny Packham gown), and endless amounts of love.
From the bride, Cate: Tyler and I are both from South Carolina, and we decided early on that we wanted to get married in Charleston. We’ve lived in several different cities, and we knew our friends would be coming in from all over the country. Our wedding was the perfect opportunity to show them our roots and let them experience a little southern hospitality. We looked at several venues and fell in love with Magnolia Plantation & Gardens. The lush gardens were beautiful and inviting. The historic setting served as an inspiration for the rest of our wedding décor.
We currently live in San Francisco. Planning a southern wedding from the west coast wasn’t easy, so we enlisted the help of Katherine at YOJ events. I’m a graphic designer and wanted to create many of the elements myself. Additionally, my mom is an incredible artist. She designed and made many of the elements for our wedding, including the stained glass arch we were married under. We came to Katherine with lots of ideas. She provided us with great advice, kept us organized and helped bring our vision to life. One of our favorite elements was the cornhole boards. It’s a game we play every summer at the beach, so we wanted to incorporate it into the reception. The boards were hand painted by New Bohemia signs in San Francisco. They turned out better than we could have imagined and were a big hit with our guests.
Our biggest decision was finding the right photographer. Your wedding day goes by so quickly. The photos are what you’ll hold onto for years to come. Noa at Feather Love Photography was the perfect choice for us. Her images really tell the story of our wedding and capture the spirit of the day. It was important to us that our wedding feel like a big party. We wanted our guests to be able to relax and really enjoy themselves. Alicia at Duvall Events helped us plan our menu. A lot of thought went into the food, drinks and pacing of the reception to ensure our guests were always well fed and comfortable. The best part of our wedding was getting to celebrate with our friends and family, the people we love most.
