Rustic Missouri Wedding

This vintage wedding photographed by Lisa Dolan has just the right balance of casual and glam. Pops of peach were mixed with black and gold to create a unique color palette throughout the ceremony and reception spaces. I must say, Converse and fur have never looked so good together!

From the bride: Sam and I had been together for almost six years and were more in love than ever when he proposed. Wedding planning commenced immediately, it was exciting, but it was definitely an exercise in decision making and editing, to say the least. I had just started Mint Design, my own wedding and event styling business, so our wedding was the perfect opportunity to showcase my ideas.

The guys wore a perfect vintage-but-not-too-vintage look that was still casual, thanks to their classic Converse Jack Purcell sneaks. The ladies all looked so soft and pretty in their ivory bridesmaid dresses and gold jewelry. It was absolutely freezing the day of the wedding, so their colorful cardigans contributed some bright and cheery pops of color.

Both Sam and I are interested in a variety of styles, so the aesthetic of our wedding was rather difficult to nail down. We were married at Quail Ridge Lodge, in the small town in which I grew up. It is a gorgeous A-frame log cabin with pine- clad walls, windows, and natural light.

We wanted our wedding to be a little bit of a mix – a little bit rustic, a little bit vintage. Our colors were ivory, black and gold, with pops of peach. Just about every aspect of the wedding was handmade by myself, Sam, and my wonderful friends and family.

I loved designing everything for the wedding – from the entire paper suite to the table runners, the backdrops, the boutonnieres, and so on. One of my favorite projects was designing a custom plaid pattern using some of the wedding colors and having a custom fabric printed by Spoonflower, then making the bow ties myself.

Our wedding day was perfect – it was a gorgeous day full of love, laughter, family, and friends. A few days later we left on our honeymoon to Thailand and the Philippines, where we spent a few weeks with Sam’s amazing family. My advice to brides who are planning their wedding is to get things done as early as you can.
