San Diego Museum Wedding

This San Diego wedding from Studio Castillero is so exciting to us for so many reasons: first off is the bride’s gorgeous BHLDN wedding gown, which adds the perfect amount of glitter to the day. Next is the fact that the bride and her sister planned the wedding down to every detail (and they married brothers, making one big creative family!). And then, of course, there’s the venue — The New Children’s Museum — which bride Jane knew was “the one” immediately after she saw it.

From the bride, Jane: The vision my sister, Jina Javier, and I had for my wedding was definitely inspired by Anthropologie and BHLDN. We wanted a little bit of vintage, rustic, and a classy look and feel to our wedding. We felt that we wanted to keep things as simple as possible in terms of design because the venue of The New Children’s Museum was already full of art. We didn’t really stick to one certain color palette. Instead, we used colors that complemented one another. We didn’t focus on matching too much.

Navy and coral were the focus, however we played off of those colors and used different shades. We didn’t want to stick to the same two colors. We didn’t want to be too matchy matchy. My sister made the backdrop of our ceremony with table cloths from Anthropologie and went to Mood for the sequence fabric. My sister also made the giant glitter initial letters that she hung from the hanging streamers purchased from etsy. We had a fun gift for the guests. They were Ball Mason jars tagged with chalkboard tags from Paper Source with guests’ names written on them. I had a sign that said that they could use their three R’s (reduce, reuse, recycle) and take a lid.

The most memorable part of my wedding day was when Ryan and I were standing at the altar in front of all of our friends and family and the officiant had us look into each others’ eyes and just enjoy the moment we were in. That truly stuck with both of us.

Any advice for future brides planning their weddings now? My advice to brides planning their wedding is to stick with what you want. Definitely do your research with your vendors. Only work with people who make you happy. You do not want to work with someone who is an added stress. I was lucky to have chosen people who made me smile the entire day. If you are on a limited budget, and who isn’t, try to choose a venue that is already appealing to the eye. I chose the NCM because it didn’t need a lot of decorations to make the place look decorated. This advice is obvious, but make sure you feel pretty on your wedding day. Practice your hair and makeup so you are confident with your look. Your wedding day is a big day and you will remember it forever, so enjoy your day!”
