Maine Love Session

Today’s styled shoot oozes so much sweetness we just can’t resist it. Inspired by “modern Victorian” with some sweet blues and oranges thrown in, it’s got the amazing talents of A Love Supreme Photography, Emily Elizabeth Events, and Pretty Flowers on its side. Seriously, how adorable is this couple?

From the planner, Emily Elizabeth Events: The inspiration for this styled shoot began with family heirlooms: china and flatware passed down from one generation to another. The china blue floral pattern with silver rimming set the perfect tone for a proper, yet boyishly blue engagement. Meanwhile, the very name of the flatware, “Modern Victorian,” helped inspire the storyline for this handsome couple. It gave us our vision for a simple yet sophisticated fete set in a small New England town on the river… and suddenly we had our work cut out for us, combining vintage touches with eclectic flair for a modern and worldly romance.

Muted watercolors were punctuated with a surprising pop of tangerine orange – a burst of flavor and excitement. Clementines were not only incorporated into the table settings, but also the garland encircling the banister and adorning the cake and table of sweet treats. Silver lent something of an industrial feel while the blue was close enough to navy to keep us honest and grounded. Anemones were a fitting choice for the floral arrangements given the way their colored centers mimicked the blue in the china. The Louis blue chalk paint that a series of the furniture pieces were painted in softened the white brick walls and the tall ceilings, clean wood floor, and sunlight pouring in the windows of the old mill gave the space a light and airy feel.

In order to convey a casual elegance with quirky personality, the two men were dressed smartly but in jaunty dissonance. A busy, floral button-down shirt with a jacket for one groom made an interesting counterpart for the other’s sunny herringbone bow tie and vest. Little details such as the messy arrangement of peach linen napkins between two plates kept things playful. Petite vases of blooms helped to create a cozy intimacy and penny candy in a cork-topped jar added a sense of novelty. A “naked” cake, Bulleit bourbon, and the vintage typography used in the invitation suite were masculine but without being overly so. At the very heart of our efforts was a spirit of joyfulness in celebration of marriage equality in Maine. Like in our shoot, new meets old with a nod to the best of tradition and an exciting energy for fresh inspiration in the wedding plot.
