Intimate and Personal Wedding at MyMoon

I don’t know what it is about hanging flower decorations, but I never seem to tire of them. They make a winning ceremony backdrop, and we love how they were implemented for today’s wedding at MyMoon from Rebecca Yale Photography and Designs by Ahn! Jannie and Ivan’s day was full of personal details perfectly suited to this self-titled opposites-attract couple.

From the bride, Jannie: Ivan and I first met at a Summer job in 2003. We were really good friends for about 4 years before we started dating in 2007. I hear a lot of people say “I married my best friend” but it really hits home for us because we were truly just best friends before we even considered dating. Having that foundation really helped us get this far. Another thing I hear a lot is that opposites attract. Ivan’s quiet and quite honestly a bit of a dork – haha. I’m the opposite. I’m very vocal and very outgoing. Sort of a introvert/extrovert situation here, but I think we complement each other and help each other learn and grow. In the beginning of 2013 he went on a 6 month assignment in India for work. Halfway through, we had planned to meet in Japan for a vacation. During a visit to Japan’s annual winter light show called Nabano no Sato, where millions of LED lights cover the whole park, he surprised me with the ring. The location and atmosphere was perfect.

Planning for the wedding very nearly drove the both of us bonkers. We were looking to purchase a home and planning the wedding at the same time which was probably not the smartest thing to do, but I’d like to think of it as us trying to be overachievers. Overall, I think we went through what most couples go through. We cried over our lost weekends, had little voices nagging at us all hours of the day about what still needs to be done, sleepless nights, and feeling the need to bury our heads in the ground. It was quite the experience with lots of ups and downs, but we survived it. The night was amazing. Being surrounded by all our friends and family and having the time of our lives. What we went through leading up to it, it was all worth it. We went from acquaintances, buddies, best friends, girlfriend/boyfriend, and then finally this last title, husband and wife. Still feels a bit foreign on my tongue (or typing it). I may still stumble over the word “husband,” but I have no trouble calling him what he will always be to me: “my best friend.”

From the bride, Rebecca Yale Photography: Jannie and Ivan’s wedding was a lovely intimate affair at My Moon Restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Jannie and Ivan were the masters of DIY and brought together so many personal touches like the feathered escort cards Jannie made herself to the hundreds of books stacked on the tables as centerpieces, which Jannie got from the publishing house she works at. The morning started off with a beautiful tea ceremony at an air bnb rental (which is such a great idea for a getting ready space) then off to Prospect Park for portraits and then a beautiful outdoor Ceremony at My Moon followed by dinner and dancing inside the restaurant.
