Handcrafted Dallas Wedding

Today’s wedding by Grit and Gold dream wedding team Nine Photography, , Couture Events by Lottie is one that warms our hearts to the core. Newlyweds Diana and Miguel honored the bride’s father with various homages to him throughout the day, and made their wedding an event that was perfectly suited to who they are as a couple.

From the bride, Diana: If I had to describe our day, I would have to define it as artistic/DIY. We tried to involve ourselves with everything! We are the type of couple that like to place our hands in all projects. We wanted it to feel like we were walking into “our” world 🙂 wanted our family and friends to know from the time they received the Save the Date & invite to the end when we did our finally farewell, that they felt us.

For the wedding, we designed and made all the “save the dates” and invitations, marquee letters of our initials that actually lit up!, paper pinwheels that were hung everywhere but mainly on our altar wall that was installed outside for the ceremony, cake pop holders that we stamped our faces on, made a life size (8 feet) replica of our wedding invitation and hand painted it, made some colorful lanterns that hung above our table (reminded me of my dad, he was a painter so I used the paint swatches that are at Home Depot to cover them), wooden banners that hung to highlight different areas during the reception, made the guys’ boutonnieres and girls’ bouquets.

We wanted to place a little something special we did in honor of my dad. We wanted to have him with us throughout our wedding and feel his presence and this is how we did it. Like I mentioned earlier, he was a professional interior painter so we used paint swatches from home depot to make the lanterns that hung over our tables, used his rocks that he collected throughout his life for the table number holders, my brother that walked me down the aisle with my moms wore his cowboy boots and cowboy hat like he would have worn, and the paint swatches were used as the seating chart too!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Make it your own!!! Make it unique!!! If you have the time and energy then DIY the heck out of it! You will see yourself throughout the wedding during your magical day and feel like it truly is yours. We loved hearing the comments of our wedding afterwards “it was so y’all!” “I felt like we walked into your home” “It was so unique!” Many brides I know find it easier to just get the “package deal” which works great for some but many later come to find out that they didn’t have an attachment to their wedding and it just felt like “another wedding” but placing yourselves into the planning and making of will give you that connection! Use your family and friends for help!!! I know this area I did have trouble with because I felt like I was going to be a burden but honestly they are willing and most of the time waiting for the invitation! So ask away! Most importantly!!! Always grab your newly hubs and during your reception take the time to step back and see allllll of the beautiful faces of your family and friends smiling and celebrating your new life! then think “We did this.”

  • This has got to be one of my favorite weddings ever. Those mustard yellows, the phonograph cake, even his delectable bow tie, all of it is a home run!

  • WOW, this is my favorite wedding on this blog!! Seriously, looking at this, everything is SO much like everything I’ve been working on for my upcoming wedding. I’ve carved stamps with our faces, I’ve made marquee letters, I made our save-the-dates & invitations, I’ve made signs for the tables which are white-ink on brown recycled card stock, I’ve collected tons of vintage glass vases for our centerpieces, I’ve sewn chevron print overlays for our tables, & we are having cakepops & tissue paper poms. I think I just found my wedding decor soul-mate, haha. I LOVE this wedding so much! Might have to steal that book cut-outs, because that is an amazing idea!

  • This is just such a perfect wedding. I can’t even begin, so beautiful and congrats to the creative couple

  • Love this wedding. The attention to detail is fantastic. Love the colours and the photography is superb. Really like the first dance shots. Images would look great in a large coffee table album. Congratulations.

  • Where did they get the animal masks!?!? They’re darling & perfect for what I’m planning!!

  • Here did you get the books? I’d really love to get some.

  • Hello!!!
