French Castle Wedding

As soon as I hear “French castle wedding,” my mind immediately drifts to fairy tales. Maïwenn and Benjamin’s wedding isn’t far off from a fairy tale with a lace wedding gown designed to wow, a lofty party in Le Château de la Colaissière, and a veritable treasure trove of French desserts (including a cake set on fire with sparklers!) all captured beautifully by Joyeuse Photography.

From the bride, Maïwenn: We just wanted a day that was like us — young, happy, with plenty of laughs (and a little bit retro because I love “Les années folles”). We decided to say “I Do” in the middle of winter. So, for more cheerfulness, it was fun to create a dress code for our guests. Attendees were asked to wear red, yellow, or pink, and all our decorations were based on these 3 colors.

Flower recipe: I created my bouquet with artificial flowers and brooches. The flowers in the church and in the dining room were lilies and freesia (because it was the favorite flower of one of my grandfathers).

From the photographer, Tahni of Joyeuse Photography: Maïwenn and Benjamin are pretty creative and unique and wanted an interesting spin on their wedding. They got married in a church and had their reception in a castle outside of Nantes and had a bit of a nostalgia theme going on. All their tables were themed by “bandes dessinées” – which are comic/graphic books from France or Belgium. They got married on Valentine’s Day and their colors were pink, red, and yellow and had all their guests dress in those colors (and wear hats!). They also had cootie catchers- those games you played as a child with the folded paper thingies. Also, their wedding cake lit on fire – on purpose! PS – the Rolls Royce that escorted us around was Brad Pitt’s! Ha!
