If you love weddings, parties, and events with a bit of edge in them, then you’ve come to the right spot. NJ + NY team Jessica Oh Photography, Color Pop Events, and Gilded Lily Events recently put together a styled bridal shower inspired by punk rock meets prim & proper. From the bridesmaids’ styling to the paper goods to the cake studded with metallic sugar beads, you’ll get plenty of alternative ideas here for you own un-bridal shower!
From the event stylists, Color Pop Events: I came up with the idea for this shoot after seeing a photo of Emerson’s fashion collection for Spring 2014, which was themed a “Punk Rock Garden Party.” Taking that idea one step further, I added the tea party element to incorporate some Alice in Wonderland whimsy. The overall vision for the shoot was to create a beautiful setting with girls in designer clothes, but to give everything a bit of an edge to it. I wanted people to look at these girls having an amazing time and think “I want to be them!” even if the clothes, accessories, hair, and make-up might be a little bit out of their comfort zone. This shoot was definitely meant to inspire.
The garden space at 501 Union proved to be the perfect venue for the shoot, and we were able to use the other rooms to set up the dessert table and bar cart. Gilded Lily Events created multiple floral arrangements with garden roses in a variety of vivid colors and through their in-house rental company, Dovetail Vintage Rentals, provided all of the tabletop items along with the bar cart and vintage pink chair. All of the paper goods, from the invites to the rock posters to the custom coasters were cleverly created by Mia Maria Design. The dynamic paper goods duo also handmade the darling escort cards, tea bags that were emptied of the original tea leaves and then stuffed with confetti. The custom studded cake and bright pink and yellow macarons came courtesy of Hudson Cakery. Three of the four dresses (Red Valentino, Monique Lhuillier and ML Monique Lhuillier) were rented from Rent the Runway, which is where we also got some killer punky jewelry pieces by Sarah Magid. The models’ hair and make-up was done by SB Beauty, who captured the vision of the shoot perfectly. The highlight of the shoot was definitely the floral backdrop created by Gina Paola Design, which she made by hand out of dyed coffee filters. The result was stunning. And we were fortunate to have Jessica Oh Photography there to capture every minute of the day.
