DIY Teacup Planter Favors

DIY Projects

Photos by:

We can all unanimously agree that everything is cuter in miniature size. Case in point are these vintage teacups transformed into mini planters. They are the bee’s knees of eco-friendly, practical and personal wedding favors. Jenny Batt of Hank & Hunt is back with us to share her latest tutorial:

From Jenny of Jenny Batt of Hank & Hunt : I’m sure you have seen all the succulent DIYs out there for weddings, but have you seen the other miniature plants in the terrarium section of the nursery? They are full of tiny flowering and hosta like lovelies. They have some with pink spotted leaves and small soft silvery white leaves. Miniature violets? Yes, please. I love all of them, their diminutive size makes them perfect to stick in a collection of teacups. Add a flag and use these as escort cards.

You will need:

potting soil
teacups
mini plant for terrariums

Wash and dry your teacup. Using a spoon, fill the bottom 1/3 of the cup with soil. Remove your plant from its pot and gently squish the bottom of the roots. Place in the center of the teacup and add dirt around until planted. Dust off the sides and water lightly. Add a tag to the handle or a paper flag like we show here. These would be just as cute sprinkled around the reception, too.

Can’t find a large enough collection of teacups that match? Try searching pattern names on ebay on the ones you have found. Another idea? Add a pop or color and spray paint the outside of them all, a great way to make frilly teacups a bit more modern. Are you having a hard time finding mini plants? Try boutique style nurseries, these aren’t at your local hardware store.

As a graphic designer, I believe that great graphic design is in the details {read: spending lots of time at the computer looking at pixels.} If you dont know what a pixel is- congratulations- because that’s why graphic designer types exist! {to save your eyesight} Really, though-design is more than matching colors and picking pretty fonts {but I do have major love for fonts} – it’s about conveying your message to the world with a swirl, a flourish, a dot, a pattern- whatever it takes to creatively encompass your clients vision and send that vision out into the world with impact.

That’s what I try to do. EMPHASIS on TRY. I adore designing and am currently the owner of NOTEDOCCASIONS.COM , an online site catering to everyone who loves having a party. And who doesn’t because as I see it, life’s a party!

Custom invitation design requests are always welcome – we welcome the opportunity to make your event absolutely perfect!

Sweet Vow Renewal at Dusk

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

When Bethany and Ryan decided to renew their vows, Bethany’s sister Heather of The Gemmers promptly enlisted herself to plan their day in addition to capturing it. Seven years together and three children later, Bethany and Ryan decided to throw an intimate celebration as they reaffirmed their love for each other at the top of a mountain in Oregon. Under a small floral tent, they then dined under candlelight with their closest family members. Be ready to be completely smitten by this sweet fete!

From Heather of The Gemmers: It was a wedding…an elopment of sorts…a vow renewal! 7 years ago, they married. Young, with little money; madly in love. 3 children, small sustainable home in the Midwest, & trials. They’ve struggled to learn the balance. The work of marriage is in the small moments….in the small arguments, the off-hand comments….in the sinews of every conversation and encounter. It’s a delicate thing that requires all of your soul. They’re STILL madly in love. Bethany wanted to outwardly mark this moment in their lives…in their marriage….by a renewal of vows. Luckily, her sister is a photographer in Portland, Oregon: ME! I had the joy of helping to plan the most intimate of celebrations. They renewed their vows on top of a mountain along the stunning Columbia Gorge. It was all perfect: her lovely vintage-inspired lace dress by BHLDN, her husband looked just dashing; her youngest baby daughter in tow in the most darling vintage pink dress, the rings were in this lovely shell that was made into a carrying purse with a dainty clasp, their vows were printed on vintage handkerchiefs, a Portland musician played lightly through the ceremony. I dreamt of the loveliest custom floral tent & enlisted local talent to make it real and had the help of my friends & fellow wedding vendors in Portland to create a glorious day for them! There was light everywhere; candles, dazzling glass bottles & foliage everywhere! Bright colors, whimsical florals, vintage lace, wood accents, an old wood bakers table with orange chairs, a vintage high-chair, the freshly-made chocolate buttermilk cake layered with fresh local raspberries & chocolate buttercream. An amazing dinner made by a personal chef who outdid herself! Rosemary-garlic roasted rack of lamb with sauteed green beans & rosemary-garlic brown butter croutons with a poached pear & goat cheese salad. It was very typical of an intimate Portland celebration…and so lovely.
