Pablo Picasso Wedding Inspiration

One of my lesser-known loves is art history, so you can imagine my delight when I saw this styled shoot from Sarah McKenzie in my inbox. I’ve long been a fan of Picasso’s works, and it’s amazing to me how well his influence translates into great wedding design. Precious Nuptials and Something Special in Flowers hit a home run with this one, folks.

From the stylist, Dionne of Precious Nuptials: Who doesn’t love a bright and colorful soiree? With my love for art and weddings, it seemed natural to marry up one of my favorite artists – the colorful and quirky Pablo Picasso – with a gorgeous wedding setting. I loved the idea of mixing the mismatched cubism aesthetic with the beauty of a wedding celebration. One of Picasso’s most famous paintings, The Dream, was the inspiration behind the shoot. The invitations and cake both included the diamond-shaped pattern from the painting, along with lots of bright pops of color in the amazing flowers from Something Special in Flowers. The mismatched attribute of cubism was carried through with mix-matched chairs, and oddly shaped, bright china.

In addition to drawing inspiration from the painting itself, we also included details that related to artists in general, like a lovely canvas flower art installation and a paintbrush escort card desk. All these bright pops of color worked so well with the early 1900s craftsman venue, The Hofheinz House, and the beautiful period furniture from Rent Some Vintage. Carrying the theme throughout, we also included some beautiful food and chocolate – most notably Picasso’s favorite dish, Paella. Even our model lined up with the theme, with a beautiful 1930s/40s hairstyle by Adorne Artistry (The Dream was painted in the 1930s). All of these lovely details were captured by the amazing Sarah McKenzie, who did a wonderful job really showcasing this truly picturesque Picasso affair.
