Ontario Vintage Handmade Wedding

Vintage romance with a nod to the school world, Ana and Kris’ DIY wedding was a unique and adorable mix of the two styles. Sandy Tam Photography was there to capture everything from the floral tea cups to the orange pencils. And, you can’t forget the sweet newlywed bike ride!

From the bride, Ana: Right from the beginning, we knew we wanted a rustic elegance and vintage inspired wedding. We also wanted to incorporate personal touches such as the use of technology and undertones of a school theme due to our professions in Information Technology and teaching. It was extremely important that our wedding was very personal to us, a celebration of two lives becoming one and the merging of our personalities.

We decided to tackle DIY projects to ensure that our vision was met. First off, we spray painted simple glass vases to create a vintage, distressed mercury look for the centerpieces. We gathered various materials from the hardwood store to build our very own mantle that was later painted a cottage white to add the rustic element we desired. This mantle was then placed in front of our backdrop at the reception. We made constant trips to several thrift shops to find vintage inspired pieces such as old vases (later decorated with tulle, lace, and ribbon), picture frames and tea cups which were all used as centerpieces. In addition, we printed out personal tags for each guest which were manually assembled on personalized and engraved school pencils. The pencils were used both as a cute giveaway for our guests as well as an indicator of where guests will be seated.

Furthermore, it was important that our Christianity and beliefs played a prevalent role in our wedding so we included significant bible verses on our engraved pencils, hand crafted save-the-dates, invitations and ceremony programs. Although the decorations and several details are not the most important part of a wedding, we cannot deny that we loved every detail that brought our vision for the wedding to life. We could not have asked for a more intimate wedding ceremony and reception that we were able to share with our family and friends.
