Kiara + John’s Offbeat Scottish Wedding

Kiara + John’s Offbeat Scottish Wedding

We love pretty much anything photographer Emma Case sends our way and when she shoots weddings as cute and stylish as this one, well that’s just icing on the cake. Simple and heartfelt, this wedding really focused on the couple and their very closest friends and family, who spent the the whole weekend together near their venue. Alongside stunning Scottish vistas, the bride and groom kept the palette neutral and the design quirky, resulting in a perfectly chic celebration. Congratulations, Kiara and John!

From the bride, Kiara. We knew that we wanted a small, intimate and relaxed wedding with just our immediate family and friends so we could all have a blast all weekend. Style wise I wanted something clean and modern, ideally a loft would’ve been nice but they’re had to find in Scotland!! So I was delighted when I discovered Crear which has such a great gallery style space that was ours to decorate.

In the ceremony space, we used giant balloons tied to Hendrick’s gin bottles which my family kindly drank enough of throughout the year to line the aisle.

I tried to stick to quite a clean and simple colour palette with just white, neutral kraft paper and bits of green. Once we’d decided on the penguin books design for the invites, I wanted to keep the rest of the paper in a similar typographic style so we did everything in Gill Sans. We created the place cards using green candystriped bags, kraft paper and my trusty corner punch.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Accept those offers of help! One of the best parts of the weekend was seeing our parents hang up the fairy lights and people blowing up the giant balloons. And keep a note of where you saw the things you liked!! I used tumblr (https://wfiles.tumblr.com) to save my picture inspiration to with links and then organised them by subject to help manage all the millions of things I saw and loved.

  • What a unique and fun wedding! I love to see couples who aren’t afraid to let their one-of-a-kind personalities come out in their wedding!

  • Quirky and fun, I like the vibe a lot! Also LOVING those menu cards.

  • How wonderfully ripe with tradition was this wedding! The extra large white balloons made me swoon 😉

  • love this wedding, i’d love to know where they got their
cup coasters, and sweety bags done up.

  • Hey, Kiara the bride here, thanks for the lovely comments.

The sweety bags I did myself bought from here https://www.carrierbagshop.co.uk/Shop/PaperBags/ColouredPaperBags/ and I stamped them with an alphabet set – we only had 45 people so was easy enough to do things for everyone ourselves.

The cup coasters? Do you mean the square ‘Kiara & John’ things? They were our programs and I just did them myself on our home printer with my trusty corner punch to make them pretty.

  • These photos are sublime. For some reason, I can’t get over the rain boots and kilts!

  • Wonderful! love the kilts, the balloons the bottles & paper stuffs! lovely.

  • OFFBEAT is the perfect word for this wedding.. and they rocked it. Amazing job. I am inclined to say that this wedding was probably the perfect reflection of them as a couple, and I think I am probably right! Congratulations!

  • I was the caterer at the wedding and also helped a little with the original planning. Kiara was absolutely visionary – determined that the celebration most of all was to be a relaxed one. It was their day.
Their was no fussiness or noise to distract from what was going on, but bold statements that reflected absolutely their personality and also their love for each other.
My favourite detail, though – and it was a very subtle one – was not the giant green bow on the back of Kiara’s dress (which was fabulous). It was pockets. Sewn in to her simple dress. So that when she was standing chatting and chatting and being photographed and walking, she could be who she really is. A girl who is most comfortable with her hands in her pockets. I loved that honesty!

  • Love, love, love the shoes!! Where did they come from??? I have had SUCH a hard time finding that color! 🙁

  • Katie,

The bride here – the shoes were vivienne westwood melissa ones but bought on ebay as I think that colour was out of stock when I was looking.
