Missouri Farm Wedding

Remember this picnic engagement session teaser? Their photographer, Katie Day sent over their awesome farm wedding that took place in Missouri. The rustic and vintage touches throughout paired perfectly with the big red barn and the woodsy surroundings which served as a perfect ceremony backdrop.

From Krystal, the bride:

I knew I wanted a folksy rustic look with an ethereal feel(this part really came out in the music), but I also wanted to incorporate a field, handmade and vintage elements–and of course the books and typewriter because I am a writer. At one point I think I told someone I wanted my wedding to look like an Andrew Bird song sounds. So my vision was never exactly clear, it just came together as we went along.

My friend Molly read my mind and designed our invitation poster, cd, and program. I’m pretty sure my direction was “Let’s make it into a kind of folksy, whimsical poster with birds, banners, and a phonograph.” She took it from there and created exactly what I wanted. We rolled the invitations up and shipped them in cardboard mailing tubes…people loved it!

I didn’t chose a theme or a color scheme. I just did what I liked as I went along. I picked the bridesmaids’ dresses because I liked the color, and then about halfway through the wedding planning process I decided that yellow would be my main color. I was hoping the big red barn and the beautiful summer greenery would do the rest for me.

Some advice from Krystal:

It’s best not to over think things. There is no right or wrong choice, and your guests will never know that you decided to forego the IKEA cloth backdrop photo booth. Keep moving and do what you can in the time you have to plan your wedding.

Also, remember that it’s just a party. No one should be nervous or stressing or crying about a party that will go by faster than any other moment in your life.

Part II is coming up later today. Stay tuned!

  • This is Gorgeous!!Love the bridesmaids rings!!!Love the flowers and I’m definitely sure that yellow is a huge color-crush right now 😉

  • looks like an amazing wedding, Would be so fun to shoot!

  • Beautiful! Love the rustic look, location, stationery and colors!

  • I love everything about this wedding! I especially loved the idea of the fans on the seats that also included details about the ceremony.

  • I love these photos! Does anyone know what the little, round yellow flowers in the bouts and bouquets are called? I feel like I see them all the time now, and they are so cute.

    • Jenna, they are called Craspedia or ‘Billy Balls’:)

  • What a beautiful wedding! can anyone tell me where i can get personalised cd’s made? i have been looking everywhere for something as beautifully finished for our favours!

    • Niki, this couple’s cd’s were made by their friend and stationer. Look around for a stationer/graphic designer who has a style you like, and inquire about getting some cd covers made. Most should be able to create a design for you:)

  • I really love the bridesmaids rings,the tree trunk heart,the paper invitation….
    Everythings are perfect !<3

  • So cute – – all the little details are amazing & flow really nice together.

I’m wondering about the flowergirl basket…any idea where it’s from? Our daughter is in my brother’s wedding and I’ve been on the lookout for a basket.

This totally hits the nail on the head with the idea we wanted to go with 🙂

  • Awesome – – thanks Melissa. I should have known it was on Etsy. That place is my own worst wallet nightmare!! But in a good way 😉

  • LOVE the men’s suits with just the gray pinstripe vest and pants. This is exactly the look I want for my wedding, but I’m having the hardest time finding just vest/pants, or a 3 pc. suit at a reasonable price (where we can just skip the jacket). Can you tell me where you got the suits, or if you rented them? Thanks much!

  • OMGoodness!!! I love this! You really did an awesome job. I am planning a rustic feel wedding in March! I have been looking in the Peabody farm for the past couple of days and after seeing your pics I AM IN LOVE. Were you happy with everything there, and how was the pricing, if you don’t mind me asking…thanks so much

  • I know this post is from a year ago, but I keep referring back to it because this whole wedding was just lovely!! I want to do invitations posters like these. But my question is how did they do addresses on the shipping tubes? And what did they use for RSVPs?

  • Can you please tell me where the location was…and all my dreams will come true!!!

  • I definitely think this wedding looks like the way an Andrew Bird song sounds! Well played 😉
