Savannah Railroad Museum Wedding

Today we’re all about Brooklyn couples! Drea + Mike chose Savannah for their destination wedding, and they chose the Roundhouse Railroad Museum as their venue. Lots of charm at a historic venue full of whimsical touches, all captured by Chellise Michael Photography:

From Michael of Chellise Michael Photography: Sometimes you just need to get out of the city, and Savannah, GA proved to be the perfect escape for Brooklyn couple Andrea and Mike for their destination wedding. Getting married takes so much work, so why not go to a place that embraces comfort and a slower pace? What more do a couple New Yorkers need the week of their nuptials than to slow their roll and sway like Spanish moss in the southern air? Savannah was just the place, with a walkable historic district busting at the seams with its twenty two town squares, gifting their guests plenty of options for exploration of the many shops and attractions just a few steps away from their hotels. For their venue, they chose the Roundhouse Railroad Museum, a huge property with an active train on a turntable, beautifully dilapidated brick walls, old train cars from the 30s with all original furnishings, and all sorts of event spaces to accommodate ceremonies, cocktail hours and receptions.

Though the threat of rain prompted a last minute change of plan to set up the ceremony in a covered area, I now couldn’t imagine the day unfolding any other way. Cocktail hour was spent taking polaroids of the guests, and teaching the flower girls how to use a camera without a screen. For the reception, they had community seating in a huge hall garnished with picnic benches, garden lights, and cupcakes. It was absolutely stunning. When the time came, a pedicab appeared with a tuxedoed driver and whisked them away to the nearest punk rock bar for some karaoke and a bouquet toss. It was quite the after party.
