Lawyers In Love Wedding Inspiration

I’m tickled pink that today’s shoot was inspired by the love story of the stylist’s own parents. Given that her parents met in law school, Margaux of Harmony Creative Studio styled a shoot incorporating cheeky law and justice references and darling vintage details, all photographed by the lovely Meghan Christine Photography.

From the event stylist, Margaux of Harmony Creative Studio: This shoot was inspired by my parents, who met in Law School during the mid-1970s. Circumstances kept them from having an actual wedding, so they eloped with only two friends present. This is what I think their wedding might look like today, with different vintage elements worked in. The theme of ‘Lawyers in Love’ was a natural fit: touches like the green law lamp, balance scales, vintage paperweights and yellow legal paper translate the theme in a sophisticated way.

We integrated the signing of the marriage certificate into the actual ceremony, with a large showpiece the couple could frame later. The invitation wording was also a play on a court summons. The upstairs ‘Library Room’ at The Victorian was perfect for our Law theme. Our ceremony was flanked by vintage lampshade mobiles, and the sound was provided by an amazing sound system packed into a vintage suitcase, from our friends at Hi-Fi Luggage! What a perfect way to get your groom interested – guys love killer audio systems! All of their pieces are iPod friendly, so you can DIY your wedding music!

I thought it would be cool to have one of the bookcase shelves packed with flowers. Recycled Love Story made it happen! The photobooth backdrop is actually plastic garden fencing (available at any home improvement store!), which had ribbons and vintage fabric cut into 1″ strips weaved through. My parents share a love of cookies, so we created an ‘Old School’ Cookie Bar, with such favorites as Oreos and Nutter Butters. For me, adding vintage touches is not about translating a time period exactly, but taking the best elements of eras past and making them your own. Personal touches like a family heirloom locket for your ceremony can contrast with statement earrings for your bridal shoot. I think if my mother were young now, this is something she would have done.

  • Thank you so much for featuring this shoot – it was such fun to create something inspired by people I love so much!

  • Wonderful photos. My wife and I were married at the Victorian in 1994 and it looks as magical in your shoot as it did to us all those years ago. Beautiful wedding.
