Intimate Toronto Wedding

I couldn’t think of a better way to close our real wedding features for 2010 than with a sweet and simple wedding that Nancy da Costa of Mango Studios sent our way. Kelly and Murray handmade most of their details, and I am slightly obsessed with Kelly’s polka dot tulle wedding dress!

From the bride, Kelly: Murray and I love our city so it was important for us to have our wedding here in Toronto and to share a little piece of our lives with our family and friends. A ferry ride to Toronto Island seemed like the perfect adventure for our wedding guests. We wanted our wedding to be an intimate, fun, personal and sweet celebration. It was important to us that it was a sincere expression of our love and truly memorable for our guests. We wanted our wedding to be a reflection of us – full of handmade goodness, laughter, happy tears and one of the best parties our guests have ever seen.

Nearly every detail of our wedding was handmade and we used a colour palette based around shades of purples and teals. Among other projects, I sewed the bunting banners, the cake toppers and all of the ties worn by the groomsmen and family. A group of very kind and generous friends spent the night before the wedding helping us decorate the venue – hanging string lights, putting together flower arrangements and hanging vases from the trees.

We wanted every aspect of our wedding to feel as personal as possible and chose to work with all the creative people we know. Our wedding felt like one giant hug from all our friends and family because every element of our big day was created with our own hands or through the incredible love, talent and generosity of our friends and family.

Any advice for brides planning their wedding? The Internet is a wonderful thing! We found some incredible inspiration from other weddings through fantastic blogs like Ruffled. Start keeping a journal as soon as possible and a folder of inspirational images that you can revisit from time to time to keep you on track. Find a great photographer to capture the special moments of your day. We also invested in a Smilebooth, which provided so much entertainment for our guests and hilarious memories captured for a lifetime.

  • Absolutely love love love love this wedding. The programs are amazing, along with all the other stationery. But the balloon just *makes* it!!

  • Absolutely gorgeous dress, and I love the program fans!

Just a quick question for Kelly if she’s able to answer…I’m in the Toronto area and am wondering who did your makeup? It’s so natural looking but also really well done. Would love to find out. Thank you!

  • Wow, congrats! I have to say that the pics from the wedding are the best I have seen in a long time. Simply perfect, I love the style and the color! Great photographer indeed! Oh and I also like your Toronto-patriotism, it’s the same with me.

  • As a fellow Torontonian, I had the same question as Krystle — who did your makeup? You look gorgeous.

  • thanks so much for all the lovely comments!

krystle + alana – i actually did my makeup myself . . . just a little liquid eyeliner, mascara, cheek stain and lip gloss. let me know if you have any further questions as you plan your own toronto weddings!
