Gold and Pink Valentine’s Day Shoot

This recently-wed couple is the perfect fit for this golden Valentine’s Day photoshoot styled by Couture Events by Lottie and shot by Sara & Rocky Photography. Don’t you just love that ombre cake and the wall of mirrors? Our minds are already reeling with wedding inspiration!

From the Event Stylist, Lottie: Our little shoot took place at Main Social, a small and intimate gathering hall in downtown Lewisville Texas. Our models are a real live couple that actually got married this week. ;) They are too sweet!

Classic Europe Wedding Inspiration

Inspired by the ever-ending romance and classic style that the old continent reminisces, Sugar and Fluff dreamed up an equally gorgeous translation to wedding design, all captured by Jose Villa. The large flower arrangement was inspired by the painting “The Bouquet” by Jan Brueghel, and the idyllic setting in Santa Barbara was the perfect spot for a Tuscan-inspired backdrop. So without further ado, I will leave with you Aasim of Sugar and Fluff…

From Sugar and Fluff:

The shoot was inspired by classic European elements; From trips to farmer markets to Rembrandt still life paintings that captured composition and transformed common items around the kitchen or house into art. We were able to make this vision come to life by experimenting with new ideas of rustic statement pieces and centerpieces of today’s dining contour. Our inspiration for the floral was heavily inspired by the painting “The Bouquet” by Jan Brueghel.

One of the most romantic colors of the season is a deep burgundy that adds the right depth to our centerpiece and focal point of the table, an asymmetrical arrangement of wildflowers cascading down our table assembled by Mai of Bunch Studio. The rhythm is kept throughout the table with organic ombré apples, misted with edible (yes, edible! look up gold spray paint for your food here) gold paint. The rich purple tones were brought back to the table through tarnished flatware, etched porcelain dinner plates and blackberries.

The invitations were designed as a preview of the event–inspired by the hygienic movement of the 1930′s. “Spatial dimensions were also determined in order to optimize the workflow” in which we framed our simple serif typeface with a floral wreath.

Taking the concept of the colorful bins of beans and lentils one would find at a farmer’s market, we used the legumes to represent each guest’s place card with a distinct array of colors. We were able to find a charming grid-iron Eiffel Tower, which we contrasted with bright cascading flowers that brought our soft pastel palette to the guest table. The shoot wouldn’t have been complete without our Hilly fields of Santa Barbara in lieu of a Tuscany setting.

Classic European fashion is all about basic colors, simplified accessories, and being sexy without showing much skin. When choosing wardrobe for this shoot, the first thing that came to the stylist’s mind was mixing black, white and pink. Those colors represent classic femininity.The wardrobe worn by the model needed to be modest but still show her body. The high waisted skirt showed her tiny waist and the cream lace top, drew attention to her neck and collar bones. The pink dress, again showed her tiny waist and the slits on the sleeves gave one a peak of her arms. The accessories needed to be elegant and bold, yet not steal the attention away from the beauty of the model; Pearls, gold, and little pops of color.

Chicago Woodland Wedding Inspiration

Even though wedding season might be slowing down as the cold weather continues to roll in, some vendors are taking this as an opportunity to meet up and throw together incredible inspiration shoots. A Chicago team of vendors did just this, led by Katie of Jayne Weddings and Events and Jessie of Simply Jessie Photography. We love how this shoot manages to be somewhat masculine while still retaining a sense of regal femininity!

From the Event Stylist, Katie of Jayne Weddings and Events: A group of Chicago vendors worked together on this barren forest look. Wedding season has slowed and we all wanted to do something creative and fun with only one rule: no pastels. We all love happy sunny weddings, but what about the bride with a love of nature and the beautiful emptiness it holds during the winter months. We painted a picture of our lovely snow-white-esque bride awaiting her prince, semi-vintage and a bit more opulent then rustic.

We set the table to reflect how long she waits. Woodland creatures take over the once lush table, flowers are replaced my items found on the forest floor, but the candles still flicker and the linens still gleam a bright shade of purple. Using candle plates instead of typical salad plates brought a nice matte black finish to the table. The chairs were wrapped in a braided fabric rope to make them look festive, but not over the top. Bundles of sticks were wrapped in matching mini rope as a “favor” to the guest.

We paired the wedding dress with a knee high lace up boot to create a more edgy feel. Her hair and makeup was done to be more dramatic then most brides would choose to have, and looked a bit regal. The bride lays and daydreams of her love in a bed of gold fallen leaves.

In keeping with the natural melancholy aesthetic of shoot, the film was shot in an dramatic raw perspective with an original music composition by Paper Door. We didn’t want a smooth over-produced video but the edges a bit unkempt and an intimate perspective into this bride’s waiting.

Modern Love + Hot Pink Flowers

We all know if there were a wedding glossary, pink flowers would be under an ultra romantic setting. Hot pinks, on the other hand, can instantly modernize a romantic wedding with a jolt of color. So if you needed proof to your respective soon-to-be other that pink flowers have a modern facet, take heed from Sarah Winward of Honey of a Thousand Flowers. She is not only showing a fresh floral arrangement with pink flowers, but she is also showing the same arrangement done in two ways can have completely different styles.

From Sarah Winward: Some flowers naturally look better in certain environments than others, some transform to different moods pretty well. This arrangement demonstrates how the same flowers could be set in a moody and romantic environment, and also a contrasting cheerful and bright wedding. If you see flowers that you love, but that are used in an environment different than the one you are planning for your wedding, consider switching up a few details like the vases and table setting to make it work for your event (paying respect to the season and flower availability, of course.)

Flowers used were: hanging amaranthus, peony, tulip, bush ivy, and festival bush.

Snowberries Floral Arrangements

Today Honey of a Thousand Flowers is introducing us the cutest little addition to our library of Bridal Blooms: snowberries! They look as whimsical as their name, and versatile like a LBD of florals. We’d love to see them starring in a gorgeous bouquet of muted hues, or in a colorful cheery arrangement! I’ll leave you with the expert, Sarah Winward:

From Sarah Winward: Contradictory to their name, snowberries are not usually available in the winter. Snowberries are available August-November, and are occasionally found in the spring too. They have clusters of berries spaced all along their thin woody stems. The berries are fairly soft and can be crushed if they fall off of the stem. When they do they pop the sound is somewhat like a cranberry. Fortunately the flesh of the berries is white so you don’t have to worry as much about them staining dresses or tablecloths as you do with dark colored berries.

I think snowberries can very easily be mixed into any style flowers. I love their foggy white color with greens alone. They are a fun textural element to add to bigger, focal flowers as accents. They can be rustic, modern, or simple sweet depending on the colors and flowers you mix them with.

Red Charm Peony Arrangements

Peonies are truly a perennial wedding favorite. They’re fluffy, colorful, and can be utilized in so many different ways to liven up a bouquet. The always-incredible Sarah Winward of Honey of a Thousand Flowers has more than a few ideas of how to work the Red Charm variety into your floral arrangements that are sure to be crowd-pleasers. Without further ado, here’s Sarah:

From Sarah: Everyone loves peonies. I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t love them, and I dread the day I may meet such a person. Peonies are lush and charming, seeing or smelling one seems to evoke images of country cottages with pathways lined with them.

Peonies begin blooming in the late spring and continue into early summer. They are available again as cut flowers beginning in late fall and into winter. This variety is called Red Charm. Red Charm peonies are the most gorgeous velvety rich shade of red. I love them used with darker colors when they are available in the fall, and used as deeper accent to colorful palette in the spring. Most peonies are very delicate and are fairly fickle as cut flowers if they are out of water in bouquets, but the red charm is another story. It has a strong stem, and the blooms are hearty. Their large blooms are surprisingly heavy, too. They can last a couple of days out of water if the weather isn’t too hot.

This arrangement shows the richness that the peony can bring to a dark color palette, perfect for a fall or winter wedding. Other flowers used in this bouquet were dahlia, ornamental peppers, smoke bush, rosemary, and fall leaves berries.

Victorian Black and White Inspiration

I’m not sure what it is, but something about this Victorian-inspired gown keeps me coming back for more ogling! Brand-new Texas-based stylists Kirbi and Tina of A Style Collective rounded up some of the Lone Star state’s best wedding vendors to create this gorgeous black and white inspiration shoot expertly photographed by Chelsea Davis. From the stylists, Kirbi and Tina: When we first met with photographer Chelsea Davis, we desired to capture a style that was not only beautiful, but was personal and adaptable. We decided to infuse a bit of rustic charm meets the beauty and timelessness of black & white. All the while, evoking some nostalgia through the use of vintage inspired props and wardrobe. Chelsea captured every little detail with talent and grace and effortlessly captured each of the beautiful elements we styled. Her photography tells a true story in this perfect evening sunlight of a charming, romantic outdoor soiree met with the coziness of a rustic, vintage celebration.

Lori Alexander, owner of 7 Closets Vintage, blew us out of the water with the addition of a breathtaking collection of vintage occasion and wedding gowns. With even more romance and lace reflected through the dress selections, the loveliness was only amplified. The addition of the bride’s black sash and satin bowed heels gives the perfect touch of black to the divine ivory gown. The groom sports a perfectly placed silver?gray and black bow tie with a classic black tux.

Sara with Lulubean Designs took our inspiration for black and white vintage and created a wonderfully matched paper suite complete with silhouettes, the whimsical use of timeless fonts, the texture of kraft, and a Save the Date adorned with vintage book pages. Every little detail from the styled event coordinates perfectly with her paper designs.

We couldn’t have asked for more from the dessert goddesses at two bakeries, Cinderella Stories and Frosted Bakery, for their edible perfections. Drizzled in white chocolate, sprinkled with romance, offering punches of silver and golden hues, and the amazing silhouette cookies (Cinderella Stories), the petite sweets were scrumptiously executed. We adorned Cinderella Stories’ large tiered cake with coordinating black lace and flower. We used vintage books, linens, cake stands, and dome platters to arrange Frosted’s elegant cupcakes to create a table that truly says Love Is Sweet. Behind the vintage inspired dessert tables, we fashioned whimsical frames hung with black satin ribbon in the trees and adorned black shutters with a lace bow for a small backdrop.

The floral design by Lisa Cushing of Petals By Design was stunning and simple through the use of single cut stems and arrangements that combined vintage book pages and jute twine with lovely white hydrangeas, baby’s breath, roses, and ranunculus. With timeless white milk glass and mason jar props from A Style Collective, the floral was a subtle display of rustic charm. We also crafted do? it?yourself book page flowers to add to the bouquet and boutonnière to play up the use of these elements in the paper goods as well as the vintage books in the tablescape.

Budget Friendly Branch Arrangements

Being a wedding blogger, I can’t help but mentally collect oodles of dream wedding scenarios. In these picture perfect settings, florals of all shapes and sizes are present in every.single.one of them. Large floral arrangements are infamous for blowing budgets, but our floral expert Sarah of Honey of a Thousand Flowers is here to show you an utterly gorgeous floral arrangement that is as pretty as it is wallet-friendly. Thank you Jessica Peterson for the images.

From Sarah: it seems that we are putting flowers in just about anything that will hold them these days. I have flowers at my house in everything from clay pots to coffee dispensers to doll heads at my house. In this movement of being inventive with our containers, it seems that we are using a lot of smaller containers for arrangements. I love small arrangements, they are delicate, and they look great in clusters. But! I am a sucker for big arrangements too. Big statements pieces are important to wedding décor. Even if all of your other arrangements are small, it is important to have at least one large scale arrangement on display to set the mood. Once you have created an environment for your wedding with the big pieces, any small pieces on tables will be icing on the cake. The problem for most brides is that these big arrangements are budget drains. But they don’t have to be!

Branches or woody greens of some sort are usually used as the base for larger arrangements to begin with. But aren’t they pretty by themselves? Just about any branch will make a gorgeous large scale arrangement. Here I have used crab apples and cherries in one, and wild grass plumes in another. I think any arrangement looks best on a pedestal. Throw these pieces on a wooden pedestal and stick them on either side of you for your ceremony, or at the entrance to your venue and you are good to go!

I kept these arrangements very simple. A lot of times earthy brides get scared when they hear the words “big arrangements” because they don’t want anything too complex or flowery. Sticking to things with natural textures like the branches or grasses will allow you to use scale to wow your guests while still keeping things natural and simple.
