Handcrafted Houston Wedding

This down-home Texas wedding shot by Brooke Schwab is a perfect example of what a few amazing vendors can do. For their reception, Amanda and Bradley pulled together some of Houston’s most talented workers to craft their wedding, but they were sure to contribute some of their own very personal touches — for the wedding favors, the groom personally baked cookies using his very own chocolate chip recipe!

From Amanda, the bride: It took a long time to pick a venue for our wedding. Houston has plenty of places that host weddings all the time but we wanted something different. We settled on the Houston Museum of Natural Science for the reception as soon as we met with them. I had fond memories of attending summer camps there growing up and this was the only venue where my fiancé’s reaction wasn’t “meh”. We found the Clayton House later through my step-mom who works with the Houston Library. It’s a historical home that is part of the genealogical library and has a beautiful garden in the back. It was right down the street from the museum which was perfect. Planning our wedding was one of the most amazing and stressful things I’ve ever done. I’m so fortunate to have worked with so many wonderful vendors. Our wedding planner, Kelly Balfour is just amazing. She really understood the type of wedding we were trying to have (whimsical, romantic, not too formal, and very “us”) and helped us choose vendors who could carry out that vision. I looked at blogs like Ruffled almost everyday to get ideas. I am lucky that my maid of honor, Chelsea Windlinger, is a talented graphic designer. She helped bring together all of our ideas and made our incredible Save-the-Dates, invitations, our website and almost all the paper products that were part of our wedding. She also helped keep me sane! My advice to brides planning their weddings would be to work with people who understand what you want. If they don’t then keep looking. You need to have people around you that support all your decisions.

  • I adore that Amanda was brave enough to wear her glasses. So few brides are! I feel they’re a part of who I am and don’t think I could go without ’em. The bike is so cute! Amazing wedding 🙂

  • @Coleen: Amanda looked hot in her glasses.

If someone wears glasses as a key part of their look, it’s always strange to see them without them. There’s no need to lose the glasses. Unless you’re the supposedly ugly girl in a cheesy teen movie who gets hot after her “makeover” aka taking off the glasses!

  • Also why are there no pictures of the taco truck!? Best wedding reception surprise-ending ever!

  • Such a gorgeous wedding gown! I love it and I love the added touch of the beach cruiser by the cake. So cute.
