From the bride, Renee: We wanted our wedding day to be filled with colours that had a vintage-shabby chic-rustic feel. For people to feel relaxed and inspired but the DIY projects we chose to do but mostly to feel our personalities shine through in every aspect of our wedding. It made is easy to style the day with such a beautiful venue to work with. We always knew that when this day came we would get married at our friend’s family-owned Vineyard which has the most amazing brick work and a 100 year old vine that grows above the seating inside.

With the venue being so amazing it really did make the theme and colour scheme easy to pick. Rustic, vintage pastel colours with bright accents of different florals made for a relaxed, quirky but romantic atmosphere. The bunting that I made to hang above the tables was different floral patterns that would of clashed if side by side but were broken with sage green and blush pink, black and cream stripes and polka dots pieces. It was a soft and bold mixing of colours which was fun. The tables and chairs were black so it worked out well to have a black pattern. We always wanted the bridesmaids in a patterned floral fabric and the none of the groomsmen in black so it really opened the door for the use of colours in our bridal party having so many colours in the styling of the wedding, it made it so fun being able to use colour and not have just one or two colours.

The DIY was so much fun. Table runners made from Calico, homemade muesli put into old baby food Jars that myself and all my baby mumma friends collected over the 9 months before the wedding, ring cushion made with an old sack with a floral heart sewn on from the same fabric as the bunting, photo props from materials from the local art shop, place cards made out of old manilla folders and hand stamped with floral design, to my sons waistcoat to match his Dad’s suit were all made my amazing Mum, friends and of course myself. It really did feel good to get some arts and craft back into my life. It was so rewarding to see the finished product.

My advice to brides and couples getting married would be to stay true to who you are. Our guests really noticed that it was β€˜Reece and Renee’s wedding,’ one guest saying that even if he turned up to the venue and didn’t know which one of his friends was getting married by just looking around he would have known it was ours! That was all achieved from keeping our invite worded exactly how we talk every day to our friends, to the background music, aisle song and keeping everything as relaxed as you can. We know that our guests truly did feel the relaxed, fun colourful spirit of the wedding. I believe that by being creative and growing that atmosphere allowed them to be apart of and see how we are as a couple to share and insight into our outlook on life as we start our journey as husband and wife. Friends and family love to help so ask them, you will be amazed at what you can pull off with the help of more hands and you will be surprised at how many people can dig up their creativeness, we all have it in us. Make sure you have a fantastic photographer, we really did. We have these photos for the rest of our lives for generations so see, I still look at my parents’ photo album and I am sure Jet (our son) will too. So make sure you find someone you trust and who listens to you and take care in helping you create photos that are special to you and your family. Lastly, trust that everything will come together on the day because it will and when it does, my golly gosh it’s amazing and you never want it to end…

Wedding Songs:
Our songs were picked by me and Reece. Our aisle song was Estelle and John Legend ‘You Are’ the words are so meaningful and the tempo a bit more up beat than your usual aisle song. Once we were announced Husband and Wife we had a surprise for our guests as we had organised our friend Jacob to play the saxophone along with Nina Simone’s classic ‘My Baby Just Cares for Me’. It was such an amazing sound to echo around the vineyard and really make the moment more dramatic and personal to us. Such a great memory!

  • What a beautiful wedding! Love all the details, love the cake, the flowers, the bridesmaid dresses! All perfect.

  • Hi Renee, I love the pictures, congratulations πŸ™‚
I had a question regarding your experience with the Sarah Seven dress, I have been looking at her dresses for sometime, I have been holding off due to the amount of negative feedback!
I am a fellow Kiwi and your feedback would help me make one of my biggest decisions! Thanks – Aimee

  • Hey Aimee, negative feedback? Really, I hadnt heard anything. I LOVED her dress, it was just gorgeous, the bustier was amazing, so comfortable. I loved all the different layers of fabric. I did have it slightly tweaked here and there because the edges are made raw because that is her look, so to stop the fabric running I got it hemmed slightly. Are you in Auckland at all? If so you are more than welcome to come and have a look at my dress before you buy because I know what a hard decision it is to buy a dress without trying it on. Thanks – Renee

  • Just perfect, Your wedding was also just perfect, as you both are in my eyes

  • Hi Renee, appreciate the offer, that is very sweet! Unfortunately I am down in Marlborough.
A number of reviews said she had trouble delivering on time, it gave me hope however when I saw that you had purchased one from lil old NZ.

Thank you for your feedback – it has helped significantly!
    Cheers – Aimee

  • Wow your wedding looked beautiful! Your cape was amazing, did you design this yourself?

  • Thanks for the comment. No it was a collaboration of different styles I had seen on the internet & image searches and it was actually a bolero but decided to hang the chiffon off the back to cover my back πŸ™‚

  • What a beautiful wedding! I love the bridesmaid dresses and was wondering who they are by? I haven’t been able to find anything similar.

    • Hey there, this message is probably getting to you way to late and you are already married but I had them made. As I couldn’t find anything not super floral and soft and romantic back then. Hope you found your perfect dresses πŸ™‚
