Georgia Railroad Museum Wedding

One of our favorite recent trends over the past few years is seeing non-traditional sites pop up as wedding venues. Jennifer and George latched onto this idea and chose Georgia’s Railroad Museum as the perfect location for their wedding reception. The couple effortlessly blended their styles for a chic wedding day, all captured and styled by Tory Williams and Morgan Gallo Events.

From the bride, Jennifer: George and I both have an appreciation for art and history, so we knew we wanted to incorporate these elements into the wedding. We chose Savannah for the location because we had both attended SCAD and because the laid-back vibe of the city mixed with with beautiful historic architecture gave the perfect feel. We loved the idea of mixing the soft colors and fluid designs of the art nouveau period (which I love) with turn of the century industrial feeling (which fits George’s aesthetic). We kept this mix in mind when we chose our locations.

Since both George and I are designers, we knew we wanted to incorporate as many personal details into the wedding as we could. One of the things we love to do together is to visit museums. In fact, George proposed to me at my favorite museum, the Met. To incorporate this we chose a work of art for each guest and printed special postcards which included the date and museum where we saw each piece. We used these for the RSVP cards as well as the escort cards. We also used the names of our favorite museums as the table names. George designed the table names to look like vintage subway signs, printed them out, and used a transfer technique to put them on wood panels. We also wanted to make sure our photo both had an artistic and original spin – we created our own props from some of our favorite paintings.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Keep a budget sheet that both of you have access to. Have an idea of what you would like, but be flexible.
