Woodland Waterfall Wedding Inspiration

Can you imagine anything more romantic than a modern Victorian photoshoot beneath a waterfall? We can’t either! These stunning images from Meghan Rose Photography showcase the very best things about nature (and the glorious manmade vignettes they can host). It’s hard to choose a favorite part of this shoot, but it’s a close tie between the playful portraits along the stream and the wild + unruly flowers growing from the table itself. The artful details from Flowers by Tedi are truly what make this woodsy shoot unique, and you’ll be delighted to find out which storybook romance inspired the concept itself!

From the photographer, Meghan Rose Photography: I was doing some research on fun things to do in Maryland when I came across Rocks State Park, and also learned that scenes from the movie Tuck Everlasting had been filmed there. My friend and I decided to go exploring right away. I became enthralled with the magic of Kilgore Falls upon my first visit there – despite it being the middle of winter, and the trails still covered in snow, it did not stop me from seeing the possibilities of a fantastic shoot happening there! My friend caught me staring and staring at everything around me and she asked, “You’re imagining a photo shoot here, aren’t you?” That hike began months of daydreaming, finding perfect models, collecting my ultimate dream team, and lots of lots of planning, Pinterest, and – of course – watching the movie Tuck Everlasting.

I wanted the shoot to be reminiscent of a young, innocent love grown in a forest and harvested over a single summer. We wanted to include Jesse Tuck’s authentic, antique, care-free, and wild side, with touches of Winnie Foster’s classic style, and cinch it all together with the feeling that time would never end. We achieved this with a bouquet that looked swept from the forest grounds, a cake set-up that seemed to pop up from within the ferns themselves, custom-made pearl jewelry, lavender water-color invitations, a unique etched glass jewelry box to signify the music box that plays an important role in the movie, an antique dress with a full button-up back (that was found at a consignment shop, bought before the model could try it on, and miraculously fit her like a glove!) and of course – by shooting on film. Kilgore Falls is a very popular swimming spot in the summer, so we made sure the shoot happened right away in the morning – with hair and make-up starting at 5:30am! We shot the cake and table set-up as fast as we could, then hiked the half mile to the falls.

Even at 9 in the morning, there was already a crowd of people. Everyone loved seeing the models all dressed up (a group of young girls asked for a photo with “the princess” and said “this was a dream come true!”) and folks even got out of our way for a few shots right in front of the falls. Because this shoot was so near to my heart, and I had put so much thought and dreaming into it, I decided to take a risk and shoot only on film. My second shooter, Michelle from Michelle and Logan, shot everything in digital to make sure we had back up, and her husband Logan shot video footage. I am so happy with the textures, rawness, and life that film brought to this shoot. My team made this possible, and gave me a dream to capture on film. I can’t thank each of them enough for all their dedication, time, talents, and vision that they contributed to the magic that happened at Kilgore Falls!
