Whimsical Garden Wedding in Dallas

When you’ve got a photographer as talented as Ben Q Photography, a bride who’s an event designer herself with Embrace the Day Events, and cheerful floral design by Holly Viles Design, how could you possibly end up with anything less than sheer beauty? Tie everything together with a Kate Spade theme and lots of color, and you’ve certainly got one for the books.

From the bride, Amanda: As a wedding and event planner in Dallas, I’ve been given the opportunity to see a lot of different weddings – different colors, styles, themes, DIY projects, etc. When it came time to switch hats and be the bride, it was wildly overwhelming to narrow down the inspiration and decide on a style that fit my (then) fiancé’s and my personalities and depicted our love story well. And to be perfectly honest, I didn’t want to have a wedding, but my parents weren’t about to let me get away with that and I’m so thankful they didn’t.

It’s hard to beat the romance that garden weddings always have and the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden is by far one of my favorite venues in Dallas so we knew without question, that would be our venue. Soon after the venue was booked, I reached out to some of my favorite vendors and had them “save the date” (aka send contracts). Combining the look and feel of the Arboretum with my husband’s love of modern style and my love for Kate Spade and bright colors, we decided “Kate Spade Garden Party” was the look we wanted to accomplish and our vendors loved the idea. We created the look by using bright colored flowers, fuchsia napkins, black & white striped table runners and personalized gold accents like a cake topper, chair signs & a gold foil print with our vows.

Personal touches are my favorite, so I jumped on the opportunities of buying prints that added a little something extra and printing photos of us to place around the reception. Of course, we didn’t get away without doing some DIY projects. One of my favorites was our “guest globe” that we found in a local antique shop and I hand painted. I also made the place card tassels and the place card display. As many people know, April and May were brutally wet and stormy in North Texas. Alex & I got married on the only sunny, rain-free Saturday in April and the day couldn’t have been more perfect. I am a daddy’s girl and also very traditional when it comes to the first time the groom sees a bride so I opted to do a first look with my dad and save the first time my groom saw me for when I walked down the aisle. Both were special moments that I’ll cherish forever. Our reception was epic. It was the ultimate dance party, kicked off by a surprise choreographer father/daughter dance to Uptown Funk. Like all good things, it came to an end and my groom and I shared an emotional and love-filled private last dance.
