Sydney Town Hall Wedding

We were so delighted to see this beautifully refreshing Australian wedding from the incredible Luisa Brimble. Bride Tabitha’s style is elegant simplicity at its finest, and we absolutely adore her maids in their white frocks. Pair this with stunning bouquets from Clementine Posy and you’ve got a bridal party look we’re absolutely head over heels for! Make sure to keep an eye out for the paper goods, designed by none other than the bride herself – Tabitha Emma!

From the bride, Tabitha: Both Dan and I love old architecture and exploring vintage and antique shops. We wanted to reflect our love of the old and vintage at our wedding. We love things well made and full of character, rather than new, shiny and modern things.

We booked the wedding ceremony to be at The Great Hall at Sydney University, near where I was living, and for the reception we booked the town hall at Petersham. The Petersham Town Hall was built in the 1930’s and is in the art deco style (an era we love). We also learned that some of the flamboyant dancing scenes from director Baz Luhrmann’s 1992 film Strictly Ballroom were filmed in its main auditorium. We planned a big wedding to be able to share our special day with as many of the people in our lives as possible. Many of our friends and family helped us with the preparations which helped to save money and enable us to invite all of the guests we wanted.

The afternoon/evening before the wedding was spent decorating the hall, lots of people pitched in and we managed to pull it all together, with enough time to get a decent sleep. The day felt so surreal, it was hard to believe after a year of planning, the day had finally come, and all my planning had come together, and I was finally marrying Dan! Driving up to the hall the morning, it was quite overwhelming to see all those people sitting in the hall, when for so long they had just been names on a list. We had a wonderful organist play for us, which created a beautiful atmosphere. After our vows we walked out to the university quadrangle, and Dan’s friend (who was also our MC) surprised us, by playing the bagpipe, which I knew he was going to do at the reception, but was a nice little surprise when we walked out onto the lawn, and really added to the atmosphere of the day.

At our reception, we had a Jazz band playing (which encouraged some good old dancing at the end of the night), we enjoyed a a buffet meal, and everyone chatted and enjoyed having a good time. The buffet worked out great. The cake was a rather special part of our wedding. It was baked by my Grandmother (using her mother’s old fruit cake recipe), and my Mother and I decorated it together. Our ‘guestbook’ was a collection of vintage postcards, that people could leave little messages on. They sat in an old drawer, which Dan and I once found on the side of the road in a local throw out day.
