Romantic Paris Elopement

Romantic Paris Elopement

After planning a wedding in their home town of Houston, Texas, Luke and Meagan reevaluated their priorities and made the bold decision to run off for a destination wedding in Paris, France, with only each other in their company. And truly, what could be more exciting than planning a wedding day in the ultimate city of love and light? Mustard Seed Photography expertly captured the relaxed and romantic day:

From the bride, Meagan: Being on the creative end of wedding and event planning, I wanted anything but ‘typical’ for my wedding. After planning an entire wedding with an estate cocktail party idea in mind in our home town of Houston, that is exactly what I had ended up with. One evening after a long day of vendor meetings, Luke asked me if this is truly what I wanted… and that was the night our plans for a wedding in Paris began. A destination wedding encompassed everything that we thought getting married should feel like. Intimate, romantic and relaxed. It’s about each other, a day that marks the start of a lifetime of adventures together. Having been mesmerized by the elegance, and charm of Paris since traveling there as a young girl, it felt only fitting for the City of Love and Light to be our choice for creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime.

With only 4 months to go I began planning through wedding and travel blogs and destination wedding sites. It was very exciting searching for vendors, poring over gorgeous venues, studying the history of the city, deciding on where to have the perfect wedding day photos, picking just the right bakery for our cake, and finding someone local for my hair and makeup. With everything this beautiful city has to offer, our choices were abundant, and we made them together. Everything turned out just as we had imagined. Our suite at the Westin Vendome had the most gorgeous, lofty ceiling rich with ornate gold gilded moldings and a large chandelier in the middle of the room dripping in crystals and gold finishings. Our French doors opened up to a balcony overlooking the Louvre Tuileries gardens and the Eiffel Tower shining in the distance. This was where we spent the morning of our wedding getting ready together and taking in every second of the day. We did things in a bit of a non-traditional order, cutting our cake and toasting with French champagne in the Victor Hugo Presidential Suite and then moving to the streets of Paris to exchange the vows we wrote for each other. The ambiance truly was the feel we sought for our day in the City of Lights, all the while enjoying the joyous and jubilant cheers, honks and applause from onlookers celebrating with us throughout the day, soaking in each and every moment, breathing in the city’s amazing views, history and architecture, turning our wedding day dreams into a once in a lifetime reality.

On the morning of our wedding, Luke suggested that we venture a few blocks down from our hotel in the direction of a flower shop we spotted the day we arrived in the city. When we rounded the corner we saw that it was closed, as many things are on Sundays, so we decided to sit outside and enjoy breakfast at the little cafe across the street. Just as we were finishing our meal and one last cappuccino for the morning we saw the shop doors start opening and rows and rows of beautiful flowers showing themselves from across the street. We made our way over and asked the florist if she could make a bouquet out of the bundles we picked out and that she did. In less than 10 minutes I was handed a stunning bouquet like I had never before seen filled with ranunculus and roses in pinks white and yellows.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice would be to follow your heart and plan what you know you will look back on and be happy with. Think outside of the box! Your wedding is yours, it doesn’t have to be what you see online and what everyone else plans. No matter how big or small, traditional or non, make it yours! We had to weigh many things regarding our decision to get married out of the country, not being with all of our friends and family being the big one. We were lucky enough to be able to have a casual reception with all of our friends and family when we returned home. We were able to celebrate with them, show everyone our photos and take the stressful things out of the equation. It worked for us, the key is finding what works for you.

  • I love the idea of eloping to Paris! I am wondering…where did they hold a ceremony/share their vows?

  • Absolutely so very beautiful and romantic. I cried as if i was right there with you! Our very best heartfelt wishes and everlasting love. Aunt DeDe, Uncle Terry & Chase

  • I absolutely adore this. There is nothing more important than the love between you two on your wedding day – and you had just exactly that. Love the idea of putting the lock on the bridge. Such thing is on so many couples bucket lists – why not mark it off on your wedding day?!
