Organic and Romantic Texas Wedding

We love a crafty bride, and bride Karina is just about as hands-on as it gets. Not only did she take care of the calligraphy and the floral design (along with the help of her sweet bridesmaids), she also handmade the ceremony backdrop and pieced together her own veil. Karina and Jonathan’s wedding was captured by the wonderful Dana Fernandez Photography, and we congratulate the happy newlyweds!

From the bride, Karina: We wanted a fun romantic wedding. Nothing too formal or stuffy. We had one of our best friends marry us and everything was just so personal and special to us because we had a hand in making it ourselves.

Flower recipe: Peonies, Ranunculus, Jasmine, Juliet Garden Roses, and moss on the tables around the centerpieces. We collected all of the vases ourselves from thrift stores.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Some advice we have for couples in the process of planning is to not sweat the little things. Some details will not turn out how you expected, it might rain, but all that matters is that you got to marry the love of your life. We had our hearts set on an outdoor, sunny, Spring wedding but the rain we’ve been getting in Texas made us move our celebration inside. We would recommend to always have a Plan B. It can never hurt to prepare for the worst. Also, if there is something you know you absolutely want on your wedding day you should find a way to make it happen. It’s the things that are really special to you that you end up remembering most vividly. And don’t worry about pleasing other people. Your wedding should be about celebrating yourselves and the love you have for each other.

Wedding Music:
Bridal Party Processional: “Here Comes the Sun,” The Beatles
Bride’s Processional: Pachelbel’s Canon in D
Marriage Certificate Signing: “La Vie en Rose,” Edith Piaf (We actually signed our Marriage Certificate during the Ceremony because we wanted to be officially married when we walked back down the aisle. It was just so romantic.)
Recessional: “First Day of My Life,” Bright Eyes
First Dance: “Time After Time,” She & Him
Father/Daughter Dance: “In My Life,” The Beatles
Mother/Son Dance: “What a Wonderful World,” Louis Armstrong
We knew we wanted our Mexican culture to be reflected in our reception so we had a Mariachi play during dinner. It was so much fun and our families loved it.

From the photographer, Dana Fernandez: Karina and Jonathan’s wedding was a photographer’s dream with mainly neutrals but added pops of color through the florals. Karina (the bride) was involved with planning and designing every little detail. She even did the florals, calligraphy on the invitations, the veil out of extra dress material, as well as the ceremony backdrop that was handmade with paper! Everything was so thought out and ended up being absolutely beautiful, even despite the rain storms that started in the middle of the reception. To end the night, they surprised all of the guests with a mariachi band to dance the night away.
