Moody Agate Wedding Inspiration
I can’t tell you how excited I am to share this beautiful Plum & Oak Photo collaboration with Kelsey Rae Designs and Carla Kayes Floral Design. The old world feel of the venue, the moodiness of the photos and the shoot altogether, and how much this reminds me of an 19th-century romantic novel are a few of the things I adore so much about it. The big topic of this whole shoot, though, is that stunning agate-designed cake by Sweet Cheeks Bakery. Agate is popping up everywhere and I’m glad it’s found a spot with weddings. Use them as table numbers, decorate your floral table runner with agate colors that stand out, or like this shoot, plant them onto your wedding cake.
From the event designer, Kelsey Rae Designs: The second I stepped foot on Vista Valley Country Club, I could just feel how special it was. It has an old world charm that makes it super unique, and now one of my favorite venues in San Diego County. Instinctively, Elyse of Plum and Oak Photo and I wanted to do a shoot that showcased the unexpected. As with most things we do together, the idea clicked right away for both of us. We looked at each other and said, let’s go moody and bring in agate and other things you wouldn’t think would be in this type of romantic setting.
The edginess of our groom model and the captivating look of our bride model tied the shoot together. The florals were carefully crafted by Carla Kayes Floral Design and just plain insane. In an effort to splatter the dinner plates, Carla taught me a cool trick of using a paint brush to carefully splatter paint on the surface of the plates. They turned out great! She also lent the most beautiful taper candles that we set up on the fireplace which really tied together the whole look. Our bride curled her own hair and wore a gorgeous BHLDN gown. She had her make up done by The Bridal Artist Agency, and looked like a total babe. The stationery pieces by Goodheart Design were ridiculously perfect. She is just too cool. And to top it off, the crazy talented Sweet Cheeks Bakery created a cake adorned in edible agate pieces that just knocked me off my feet. They looked so real it totally fooled me. The vision in my head was brought to life better than I could have even dreamt up!
