Colorful San Antonio Wedding

When we hear two artists are marrying each other, we get a special kind of excited — it’s almost a guarantee their wedding is going to blow us out of the water. This San Antonio wedding from Bend the Light doesn’t disappoint. Every detail of this wedding is just about perfect, right down to the handcrafted ceramic place-cards-meet-bud-vases which doubled as favors and the brightly colored bunting everywhere!

From the bride, Jennifer: We got married on the historic grounds of the Southwest School of Art and wanted the feeling of our wedding to match the old charm of the campus. We wanted a small, intimate gathering of close friends and family that was DIY, vintage, colorful and whimsical. We really tried to have everything have a personal touch.

Everyone asked us about color schemes every time we talked wedding. We love color and pattern so much that we couldn’t just limit it to a two color scheme. We kept the eclectic, whimsical theme consistent with lots of patterned papers and fabrics.

We are both ceramic artists and we hand made porcelain bowls as favors for each of our guest. Jennifer also made the chihuahua bride and groom wedding cake topper. We also made ditsy floral covered mason jars for table lighting. Friends and family helped with cutting fabric flags for the alter and love and aloha bunting. A major project for the wedding was the 1,001 origami paper cranes. It symbolized good luck and Ryan’s mom folded almost all of them herself! We had a party at our house and had friends and family string all of them. We used them to decorate the walls of the chapel.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? We really wanted to enjoy the wedding day and not worry about anything. Ryan and I did our research and found vendors (some were even friends!) that understood our style. We chose vendors and friends that we trusted to help make the day special. A friend married us, good friends were our videographers, our friend made our rings, we knew the band – it was important to have a personal connection to everyone at our wedding. We told them to do what they do best and after that left it up to them!
