70s Inspired Destination Wedding in the Florida Keys

We couldn’t be happier to bring you today’s wedding from Kallima Photography and Julia Rohde Floral & Event Design! There’s tons of inspiration to find within these images with a bit of 1970s flair that included bridesmaids wearing jumpsuits in lieu of gowns and a retro lace gown with a flower crown for a bit of hippie boho charm.

From the bride, Jordan: We now live in LA, but met and spent the past several years living in Brooklyn. We both grew up in FL so when we decided on FL as the location, we knew it had to be outside, lush, and near water. As soon as I saw the Caribbean Resort, I knew this was the place! We wanted something that felt like more than just a one night event, so the concept of a semi-destination wedding was perfect. The majority of our family was only a couple hours drive away and we figured all our friends in NY would love a trip to the FL Keys during March. We rented the entire property for the weekend and filled the cottages with friends and family (others stayed nearby and were mostly walking distance).

I’m a total 70s kid, so the vision was something reminiscent of that, relaxed and glam, but still based in the natural beauty around us. We didn’t want anything too fussy, so we could stay focused on why we’re all here and what we’re celebrating. I also knew I wanted my bridesmaids in pastel wide leg jumpsuits! Overall inspiration was a little Stevie Nicks, a little Palm Springs, plenty of gold, romance and flowers!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I’m a total organizing/planning nut, so I tried to do everything to keep myself focused on the event itself. It’s such a personal and special day and we wanted to be as present and calm as possible. We are also so lucky to have talented friends who were happy to be a part of the event. Working with friends who I knew understand our taste made a world of difference. Also, having a coordinator was a life saver! They handled all of the last minute details, and created a timeline to ensure everything ran smoothly.

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Wild Horses,” The Rolling Stones performed by the London Symphony Orchestra
First Dance: “Chateau Lobby #4,” Father John Misty
The dance floor was where everyone spent most of their time and the music ranged from soul, classic rock, current hip hop, and our favorite college jams.
