Fresh Vintage London Wedding

We’re off to a great week, starting with the news that same-sex marriage is now legal in the state of New York. We’re one step closer to marriage equality across the U.S! Let’s fly across the pond for an ever-so-lovely British wedding, shall we? Thank you Emma Case for sending this wedding our way and to Lauren and Andy for sharing their wedding day with us!

From the bride, Lauren: We really wanted our wedding to have a fresh vintage feel, I looked a lot at the Sofia Copolla film version of Marie Antoinette – the vivid bubblegum pinks, the soft peach and the shots of lime green mixed with pale tones of white and cream was my idea of heaven! I also wanted lots of glass and white, with the colour to come from the cakes, flowers and lighting alone to really highlight the food and flowers! A few adjectives that describe our wedding are vintage, fresh, relaxed, fun, informal, soft and pretty.

Andy cut out our names for the shelf space that we had in One Marylebone (we got married upstairs in the galleries) and on this wall our friend, Tom Warren, produced some fantastic video montages of couples kissing for during champagne and canapes, and dancing scenes for during the dancing! He also did all of the fantastic music that ranged from the 60’s to the present day! Me and Andy also put photos of our families in frames and dotted them about the shelf. My Grandma, Violet, sadly died two weeks after we got engaged, so I really wanted to remember her on the day, so I asked the fantastic Vicky Trainor at The Vintage Drawer to produce some pouches made with vintage fabrics and filled with violet seeds for the female guests. The male guests had a donation made to charity on their behalf in memory of Andy’s Grandpa (his favourite charity). Andy made all of our invites, table plans and place settings etc as hes a graphic designer!

We wanted a fresh light space, perfect for an early June wedding, we chose One Marylebone as we loved the Galleries spaces as we could have one long dining table, we both hate the idea of a “top table” as we wanted to sit with our guests, and share food and drink together! We both wanted to get married in central London too – the venue was so ideally located right next to Regents park, and as the sun went down you could see the beautiful, and busy, lights of London, from this beautiful light and airy space! One Marylebone used to be a church – the space is so dreamy seeping in history and importance!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Relax! You need to make your wedding as personal as possible, and do it your way! We didn’t have many traditional bits to our wedding – no first dance, no cake (instead we had the most BEAUTIFUL fairy cup cakes from The Utterly Sexy Cafe), a ten minute service, cosmopolitans galore (my fav!) and lots of dancing to our favourite music! Make your wedding about you…you want to enjoy it!
