Vintage Gold and Green Tablescape

Kristy Rice, the artist behind the hugely fabulous Momental Designs created this vintage inspired tablescape based on her hand painted stationery designed just for the shoot! I fell head over heels over the paper flower cake topper, which she also handmade. The vintage charm doesn’t stop there…the eclectic mix of vintage vases in amber and white combined with gold place settings under vintage black china are all visually tied together with a paper table runner that Kristy painted as well. So much inspiration!

Absolutely loving the stacked vintage cake stands:

From Kristy Rice of Momental Designs:

Designing a tabletop concept has always been a dream of mine but I held off on so many occasions because frankly why would a stationer design a tablescape? Finally the inspiration struck one crisp fall day last year while sketching in Jim Thorpe, PA and I knew I could hold off no longer. I wanted to bring a unique, somewhat paper-centered approach to the world of tabletop shoots… My vision included a look that was both lush and romantic with a distinctly artistic edge. The inspiration began with a simple idea for a cake stand. I collect vintage milk glass and had recently purchased a yellow glass cake stand for my renewal celebration this coming May. I started to vision and sketch a three tiered cake incorporating these cake stands with of course my Sculpted Bloom Paper Flower as a topper. Truly all other design elements grew from the cake concept!

The hand painted runner is perhaps the centerpiece of the table overall. I sat for 12 hours one afternoon drawing freehand peonies along 15 feet of rice paper. Each bold, black outlined peony sketch was then filled with watercolor in shades of gold and green. To soften the look overall and give a more used look I filled a spray bottle with brown shimmering watercolor paint and sprayed the entire surface. Daniel Lanton, our amazingly talented photographer didn’t simply record the details but he instead captured the spirit of the location and the creatives behind the look.

We were attempting to give this tabletop a spring backdrop but doing so on a beautiful early November fall day made it quite impossible. Instead we went with our instincts, completely dismantled the table and relocated to the gorgeous bridge location you see in the final shots. Yellow leaves were dripping from every surface – quite magical.
