Following our first trip recap to Bahia, our next destination was Corumbau, a remote fishermen village about 4 hours south of Trancoso. This Mr & Mrs Smith‘s hotel is a hidden gem tucked away between a National Park and the ocean, so you can have a sense of how secluded and untouched this destination is.

Best way I learned to get there from Trancoso by car is to drive to Caraiva, which takes about an hour. Park the car there and arrange with Fazenda Sao Francisco do Corumbau to pick you up. Since a segment of this part of the trip is through the Reserve, a Native person has to take you to the other side of the river by canoe (water is not high at all, it’s mostly so you don’t get wet). Someone from the hotel will be waiting for you with buggy on the beach. Then you will ride on a buggy for about an hour till you arrive. If this doesn’t sound like a crazy fun adventure to tell, I don’t know what is. Pack light and have fun! This method would have taken us half the time (2 hours) vs what we did.
The other option is to splurge on a helicopter ride which takes just 15 minutes with sweeping views of the Bahia Coast.
Fazenda Sao Francisco do Corumbau is a gourmet all-inclusive resort with just 8 bungalows. They have a daily menu with breakfast, lunch, dinner and dessert options to choose from, and coconut water to one heart’s content all day long reminiscing of its old coconut plantation days.
What we loved about this hotel was the feeling of having the entire beach for ourselves, with warm and calm ocean water and magical night skies. The moon was shining so bright the whole time we could play with our shadows on the beach. There is no such thing as a bad time to visit, as they have amazingly sunny weather year-round. Be sure to check out Mr & Mrs Smith for your honeymoon!
